Section A(2a - 2d) Teaching Objectives By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: Sequence geographical facts about China and the US by listening, enhancing number and fact retention (2a). Fill in blanks with correct numbers, mastering numerical descriptions in geography (2b). Create conversations using 2a information, practicing superlatives and comparative adjectives (2c). Role - play a conversation about the Great Wall, applying target language in context (2d). Teaching Key Points & Difficulties Key Points Using numbers to describe geographical features (length, age, size). Applying superlatives and comparatives in conversations. Difficulties Accurately catching and writing numbers in listening (2a, 2b). Coherently creating conversations with numerical and comparative details. Teaching Methods Listening Comprehension (Number & Fact Sequencing) Numerical Fill - in & Conversation Practice Role - play with Geographical Context Teaching Aids Textbook, blackboard, multimedia, audio player Teaching Procedure I. Warm - up & Geography Review (7 mins) Daily Question Ask students: “From 1c, what’s one superlative fact you remember? (e.g., Qomolangma is the highest mountain).” Let 3 - 4 students share, e.g., “The Nile is the longest river in the world.” Lead - in to 2a Say: “Today we’ll learn more about China and the US – their rivers, age, and size. Let’s listen to facts and practice conversations.” II. 2a & 2b Activities – Listening for Numbers & Facts (18 mins) 2a Pre - listening Show 2a numbers (6,300; 5,000; 5,464; 300) and tell students: “These numbers describe China/US facts. Predict which number matches each fact (river length, country age).” 2a While - listening Play 2a audio. Tell students: “Listen and number the facts [1–3] in order. Focus on numbers and what they describe.” Play the audio twice. Pause to let students write. 2b Pre - listening Explain 2b: “Fill in 2a blanks with the correct numbers. Check if your 2a order matches.” 2b While - listening Play 2a audio again. Students fill in numbers: Yangtze: 6,300 km; Yellow River: 5,464 km China: 5,000+ years old; US: 300 years old Check answers: Fact 1: Yangtze (6,300), Yellow River (5,464) Fact 2: China (5,000), US (300) Fact 3: China (biggest in Asia) III. 2c Activity – Conversation Practice (10 mins) Instruction Show 2c sample dialogue: “A: Did you know China is one of the oldest countries? B: Yes... older than my country.” Tell students: “Use 2a facts to make conversations. Compare China and the US (age, size, rivers).” Student Activity Pairs practice, e.g.: A: Did you know the Yangtze River is 6,300 km long? B: Yes! It’s longer than the Yellow River (5,464 km). Walk around to encourage superlatives: “China is the oldest country in Asia – use ‘oldest’.” IV. 2d Activity – Great Wall Role - play (10 mins) Instruction Show 2d conversation (Guide & Tourists). Tell students: “Role - play this dialogue. Pay attention to questions about length, reasons, and parts of the Great Wall.” Explain new phrases: “ancient emperors”, “man - made objects”. Student Activity Groups of 4 (1 Guide, 3 Tourists) practice. Walk around to correct pronunciation, e.g., “Badaling – ba - da - ling”. Invite 1 group to perform. Praise: “Good use of ‘longest wall in the world’ – correct superlative!”. V. Summary & Homework (5 mins) Summary Recap key points: Numerical facts: China/US age, river lengths. Conversations with superlatives/comparatives. Great Wall role - play skills. Write on the board: Key Structures: -... is [number] kilometers long. -... is one of the oldest countries. Homework (1) Write 3 sentences comparing China and another country (e.g., “China is older than Australia.”). (2) Research one more fact about the Great Wall and share in the next class.
