Section A(2a - 2d) Teaching Objectives By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: Sequence pictures to retell the “Yu Gong Moves the Mountains” story based on listening (2a). Identify key words in the listening to understand story details (2b). Retell the story in their own words, using simple past and narrative language (2c). Role - play a conversation about the story, expressing different opinions and understanding multiple interpretations (2d). Teaching Methods Listening - based Story Sequencing Vocabulary Identification (Listening) Story Retelling & Role - play Teaching Aids Textbook, blackboard, multimedia, audio player Teaching Procedure I. Warm - up & Story Recall (7 mins) Daily Question Ask students: “From yesterday’s class, what do you remember about ‘Yu Gong Moves the Mountains’? What happened first? ” Let 2 - 3 students recall, e.g., “Yu Gong wanted to move the mountains blocking his way.” Lead - in to 2a Say: “Today we’ll listen to the full story of Yu Gong and sequence pictures to retell it step by step.” II. 2a Activity – Listening & Picture Sequencing (10 mins) Pre - listening Show 2a pictures (four scenes of Yu Gong’s story). Ask: “What do you think happens in each picture? Predict the story order.” While - listening Play 2a audio. Tell students: “Listen carefully and number the pictures [1–4] to tell the story in order.” Play the audio twice. Pause after each play to let students adjust numbers. Post - listening Check answers (sequence depends on audio; assume correct order: Yu Gong starts moving, man doubts, family continues, gods help). Walk around to confirm, e.g., “First, Yu Gong and family start digging (picture 1). Then, a man mocks him (picture 2)...” III. 2b Activity – Key Word Identification (12 mins) Instruction Show 2b sentences with blanks (children/family, poor/weak, etc.). Tell students: “Listen again to the 2a audio. Circle the words you hear (children or family? poor or weak?).” Student Activity Students listen and circle. Then, pair - check. Walk around to guide, e.g., “The man saw Yu Gong and his family – circle ‘family’.” Check answers: family weak talking two know IV. 2c & 2d Activities – Story Retelling & Role - play (13 mins) 2c Instruction & Activity Explain 2c: “Look at 2a pictures. Walk around to encourage, e.g., “Add how the gods were moved to make it more interesting.” 2d Instruction & Activity Show 2d role - play conversation (teacher, Wang Ming, Claudia). Tell students: “Role - play this conversation. Pay attention to different opinions: Wang Ming thinks Yu Gong is inspiring; Claudia finds it silly. Practice expressing agreement/disagreement.” Pairs practice. Invite 2 - 3 pairs to perform. Highlight good language use, e.g., “Claudia says ‘It’s a little bit silly’ – good expression of opinion.” V. Summary & Homework (5 mins) Summary Recap key points: Sequenced the “Yu Gong” story through listening. Identified key words to understand story details. Retold the story and discussed different opinions. Write on the board: Story Morals: Anything is possible if you try (Wang Ming); Find better ways to solve problems (Claudia). Homework (1) Write a short story retelling of “Yu Gong Moves the Mountains” using 2b’s key words (at least 5 sentences).
