Warm - up & Vocabulary Introduction (7 mins) Daily Question Ask students: “What do you know about the ‘Emperor’s New Clothes’ story? Share one detail! ” Let 3 - 4 students share, e.g., “The emperor is tricked by two weavers.” Lead - in to 1a Say: “Today we’ll learn vocabulary and listen to this story. First, match words to picture parts in 1a.” II. 1a Activity – Vocabulary & Picture Matching (8 mins) Instruction Show 1a words (gold, emperor, silk, underwear) and tell students: “Look at the 1c pictures (preview). Match each word to the letter in the pictures that shows it. These words are key to the ‘Emperor’s New Clothes’ story.” Student Activity Students match individually. Then, pair - check. Walk around to help, e.g., “‘Emperor’ refers to the ruler – picture a has the emperor.” Check answers: gold – (identify based on 1c; e.g., treasure in picture b) emperor – picture a, c, d (the ruler) silk – picture b (boxes of silk) underwear – picture a (emperor’s undergarment) III. 1b & 1c Activities – Listening for Story Sequence & Details (18 mins) 1b Pre - listening Show 1c pictures (a - d) and tell students: “These are scenes from the ‘Emperor’s New Clothes’. Predict the story order before listening.” 1b While - listening Play 1b audio. Tell students: “Listen and number the pictures [1–5] to sequence the story.” Play the audio twice. Pause after each play to let students adjust numbers. 1c Pre - listening Explain 1c: “Listen again. Fill in blanks with words from the story. Focus on simple past tense (e.g., ‘looked’, ‘shouted’).” 1c While - listening Play 1c audio. Students fill in blanks. Walk around to help, e.g., “The emperor ______ at himself – what’s the past tense of ‘look’?”. Post - listening (1b & 1c) Check 1b sequence (depends on audio; assume: emperor admires, weavers arrive, boy shouts, emperor parades). Check 1c answers (example): When the emperor looked at himself, he only saw his underwear. A young boy shouted, “... isn’t wearing any clothes!” The emperor had to give them silk and gold... they kept everything. This story is about an emperor who loved clothes. Two brothers/weavers came to make clothes. IV. 1d Activity – Story Retelling (11 mins) Instruction Explain 1d: “Use 1c pictures to retell the ‘Emperor’s New Clothes’ story in your own words. Use simple past and key details (e.g., ‘Once upon a time, there was an emperor who loved clothes...’).” Student Activity Students work individually, then pair up to practice. Walk around to encourage, e.g., “Add how the boy was brave to shout the truth.” Invite pairs to retell the story in front of the class, focusing on tense consistency and story flow. V. Summary & Homework (5 mins) Summary Recap key points: Vocabulary: gold, emperor, silk, underwear. Story sequence: emperor’s vanity → weavers trick → boy exposes → emperor’s shame.
