1. Warm-up
Students look at pictures of people asking for help/permission and guess what they are saying.
2. Presentation
(1)Read the sentences and then write R (Request) or P (Permission) next to each question.
(2)Read again and think about the similarities and differences between can and could. The share in class.
(3)Teacher explains difficulties and adds more points.
3. Practice
(1)Exercise 3b:
1 Match questions to responses.
2 Students report answers by role-playing the short conversations.
(2)Exercise 3c:
Think independently first and then in pairs, create dialogues for:
1) Borrowing a phone.
2) Asking about missed class notes.
3) Requesting help to open a door.
4) Organizing a community cleanup.
