A well-known 75-year Harvard study shows that children who do chores can become more independent and successful when they grow up. In fact, chores are very important to children’s future development, as they bring many benefits. When children do chores, they can get a sense of achievement because they can easily see the results after finishing the chores. Especially when their parents say thanks for their help and tell them they’ve made the day easier, they will know they are useful and able to help their families. This experience can also encourage children to be more active in helping others outside of the family.
What’s more, they will learn that it is everyone’s duty to take part in the household chores. It helps to stop them from growing up spoiled (惯坏的). Life doesn’t simply offer everything on a plate. It takes much effort to turn what we want into reality.
Besides, they will learn how to manage their time through chores. Household chores are part of life as long as we breathe and doing chores from a young age helps children to get used to them. Children learn to include them in their day with all other activities such as studies and play. Time management is a useful skill to have in adult life, too. When they grow up, they need to balance (平衡) different parts of their life like work and family.
Chores also teach important life skills. Chores are usually related to household tasks —washing dishes, sweeping the floor, making the bed, etc. These are all life skills that children need to develop before they head out on their own, and the only way to learn is by doing.
Chores aren’t just about keeping the house clean. They are life lessons.
13. What can we learn from the Harvard study?
A. Younger children like to do chores.
B. Doing chores can lead children to success.
C. Most children are able to do chores themselves.
14. What’s the meaning of parents’ saying thanks to their children?
A. It gives children an excuse to do fewer chores.
B. It tells children their actions make a difference.
C. It reminds children to ask for something in return.
15. How do household chores prepare children for adult life according to Paragraph 4?
A. By encouraging them to value independence.
B. By teaching them to focus on important things.
C. By helping them develop time management skills.
16. What could be the best structure of the passage?
A. ①/②/③④⑤⑥ B. ①②/③④/⑤⑥ C. ①/②③④⑤/⑥

The Huajiang Canyon Bridge in Guizhou is making news all over the world! On January 17, 2025, the main parts of the bridge were completed. It is a fantastic achievement of engineering.
This bridge is truly special. It’s 2,890 meters long and 625 meters high from the water. When finished late this year, it will be the highest bridge in the world.
Building this bridge is very hard. The workers have to face many difficulties. The canyon (峡谷) is deep, and there are strong winds, rain, and sudden temperature changes. To build the bridge, engineers use the world’s largest cable crane (缆索起重机) system to lift heavy things. They also use many cameras and sensors (传感器) to make sure everything is safe.
Guizhou is the only province in China that doesn’t have plains (平原). It has many mountains and canyons. Guizhou has built over 30,000 bridges among its 1,260,000 mountains. About half of the world’s top 100 highest bridges are here. These bridges turn mountains into highways.

A. ①/②/③④⑤⑥ B. ①②/③④/⑤⑥ C. ①/②③④⑤/⑥

Have you ever heard of the Human Library? It looks no different from any other library: you can borrow “books” and keep them for some time. The only difference is that the “books” there are people with their life stories to share. Readers can “borrow” them for a talk for 30 minutes at a time.
