For example, NBC’s the tonight show starring Jimmy fallon and Conan on the tbs network. The hosts of those shows are some of the most famous figures in show business. However, Kimmel has been known to start crying on the show when he talks about what he cares about. And he has become especially famous after Donald Trump became President. All late night talk shows tend to follow the same timing. There is an opening speech by the host, followed by a special comedy performance done with a partner. Then there is a series of interviews with other famous people, and a musical performance comes at the end. Kimmel has been so successful at his show that he was asked to host the Oscars for the last two years. He had just won a major regional race and was eyeing the national championships. But a motorcycle accident changed everything. The 24-year-old almost lost his left leg, leaving him unable to walk, let alone ride a bike. Doctors said his cycling career might have to come to an end. Marcos, who was studying sports science at the University of São Paulo, was heartbroken. For the first several days, he lay in the hospital bed and thought about how to deal with the rest of his life. In the end, he chose not to give in. With the support of his family and coaches, he began a long and hard process. Every day, he received physical treatment, relearning basic movements. “It was the darkest time of my life,” he said. Slowly, Marcos made progress. He found adaptive cycling, which uses specially designed bikes for disabled (残疾的) athletes. With a newfound hope, he combined his study with intense training on his adapted bike. His professors encouraged him, providing flexible study schedules so he could focus on recovery and training. There were days when pain made training unbearable, and self-doubt threatened to beat him. But he pushed through, inspired by his love for the sport. Coach Oliveira, who had trained Marcos for years, was amazed by his performance. “Marcos proves that if you have the courage to keep going, nothing is impossible,” he stated. This year, Marcos made a remarkable comeback at the South American Adaptive Cycling Championships. Though he didn’t win, his presence on track was a victory in itself. “I’m hack the bike, that’s all that matter. If my story can give hope to others facing similar problems, that would mean everything,” Marcos shared. 24.What happened to Marcos last year? A.He suffered serious leg injuries. Findings from a new study spotlight a solution that could cut the risk significantly: walking. “The relationship is dose-dependent, meaning the more people walk, the lower their risk becomes — up to about 100 minutes per day, after which the benefit levels off,” says the lead study author, Doctor Rayane Haddadj from Norway. In modern society, prolonged sitting leads to lower back pain, as many people spend hours at computers in poorly designed chairs. This seated position puts pressure on the lumbar spine and discs, whereas standing and walking engage core muscles, helping avoid some of the problems with chronic wear and tear that happens in the lower back. The study involved around 11,000 adults, averaging 55 years old, with no prior history of back pain. Participants wore accelerometers (加速仪) for about six days to track their walking duration and intensity. Then they were divided into four groups based on daily walking time: (1) less than 78 minutes, (2) 78 to 100 minutes, (3) 101 to 124 minutes, and (4) 125 minutes or more. Additionally, participants were classified by walking intensity: slow, moderate, or brisk. Over an average follow-up of four years, approximately 1,700 individuals developed back pain. After adjusting for factors like age, sex, income, depression, and smoking, data analysis revealed that walking at least 100 minutes daily reduced the risk of developing chronic lower back pain by 23% compared to those who walked less than 78 minutes, regardless of pace. The sweet spot seemed to be around 100 to 125 minutes per day. More than that didn’t offer much additional protection. These findings are encouraging, especially for those already experiencing lower back pain or who may not be very active, as walking is accessible to most. Using a smartphone to track walking time and steps can enhance motivation. It is highly recommended to walk with a family member, friend, or group to make it more fun. Walking 100 minutes might sound hard to fit into your day, but if you translate it into about 10,000 to 12,000 steps, it may seem manageable. Remember: walking at any pace helps prevent back pain — and just standing helps. 28.What has been found about walking? A.Prolonged sitting has no impact on lower back pain. B.Walking for 78 minutes a day is enough to prevent lower back pain. C.Walking for over 125 minutes per day can provides more protection. D.Walking for 100 minutes daily can reduce the risk of lower back pain. 29.Why is lower back pain so common nowadays? A.Due to prolonged sitting in front of the computer. B.Due to the increasing popularity of standing desks. C.Because of the overuse of core muscles in one’s back. D.Because people are unwilling to leave the air conditioner. 30.How was the study carried out? A.By conducting interviews. B.By conducting experiments. C.By analyzing the collected data. D.By completing online questionnaires. 31.What suggestion is given to one who is inactive in sports in the last paragraph? A.They should stand up and walk. B.They must join a walking group. C.They must purchase a smartphone. D.They ought to know 10,000 steps equals 100 minutes. 【答案】28.D 29.A 30.C 31.A 【导语】这是一篇说明文。 根据第一段“The relationship is dose-dependent, meaning the more people walk, the lower their risk becomes — up to about 100 minutes per day, after which the benefit levels off(这种关系是剂量依赖性的,也就是说,人们步行的次数越多,患病风险就越低——每天大约100分钟后,这种益处就会趋于平稳)”可知,关于步行的研究结果发现每天步行100分钟可以降低下背部疼痛的风险。故选D。 29. 根据第二段“In modern society, prolonged sitting leads to lower back pain, as many people spend hours at computers in poorly designed chairs. This seated position puts pressure on the lumbar spine and discs, whereas standing and walking engage core muscles, helping avoid some of the problems with chronic wear and tear that happens in the lower back.(在现代社会中,长时间坐着会导致腰痛,因为很多人长时间坐在设计不佳的椅子前使用电脑。这种坐着的姿势会给腰椎和椎间盘带来压力,而站立和行走则能激活核心肌肉,有助于避免下背部因长期磨损而产生的某些问题)”可知,如今腰部疼痛如此常见是因为长时间坐在电脑前所致。故选A。 30. 根据第三段“The study involved around 11,000 adults, averaging 55 years old, with no prior history of back pain. Participants wore accelerometers (加速仪) for about six days to track their walking duration and intensity.(这项研究涉及约11000名成年人,平均年龄55岁,且此前均无背部疼痛病史。参与者佩戴加速计约六天,以记录他们的步行时长和强度)”以及第四段“After adjusting for factors like age, sex, income, depression, and smoking, data analysis revealed that walking at least 100 minutes daily reduced the risk of developing chronic lower back pain by 23% compared to those who walked less than 78 minutes, regardless of pace. The sweet spot seemed to be around 100 to 125 minutes per day. More than that didn’t offer much additional protection.(在调整了年龄、性别、收入、抑郁和吸烟等因素后,数据分析显示,与每天步行少于78分钟的人相比,每天步行至少100分钟的人患慢性腰痛的风险降低了23%,无论步行速度如何。最佳睡眠时间似乎是每天100到125分钟。再多一点也不能提供更多的保护。)”可知,这项研究通过分析所收集的数据开展。故选C。 31.细节理解题。根据最后一段“These findings are encouraging, especially for those already experiencing lower back pain or who may not be very active, as walking is accessible to most.(这些发现令人鼓舞,尤其对于那些已经患有腰痛或者不太经常活动的人来说,因为步行对大多数人来说都是可行的)”可知,建议那些不经常参加体育运动的人应该站起来走走。故选A。 D When people think about surfing, they imagine a young person riding the waves standing on a surfboard. Another special form of surfing, which is easier on your knees, is bodyboarding where the surfer rides a specially designed bodyboard lying on the stomach. This sport is gaining popularity because of its appeal (吸引力) to people of all ages. As people age, it’s common to lose confidence and develop a sharp sense of fear when beginning physical activities, especially those like surfing. Some surfing programs aim to fight these concerns by providing expert guidance and developing a sense of social connection while offering health benefits to seniors. But they’re about more than just exercise. There’s a social function that is particularly important to seniors. It’s really important to get older people in the water and get them active. A group of women in Western Australia take to the surf every week. These women who are called Granny Grommets have been riding waves in Albany for 25 years. The group began when founder Kim Buttfield was teaching a mom and daughter to surf, and some older women approached her and curiously asked, “What about us?” Buttfield decided to teach these women bodyboarding because it is easier on aging knees than standing on a surfboard. She said that there are only two requirements for joining: a positive attitude and members that have to be at least 50 years old. There are now more than 100 women in the group including Glenn Scott who became a member when she was 80. “All you need for a Granny Grommet is a bodyboard and a laugh across your face,” Scott said. Granny Grommets have inspired other senior surfing groups around Australia and even have gone global. There are groups in South Africa and even as far north as France. This shows that all you need is surf, a board, and determination to ride the waves at any age. 32.What makes bodyboarding special? A.Its speed of surfing. B.Its competition rules. C.The ages of the participants. D.The position on the skateboard. 33.What do the surfing programs mentioned in paragraph 2 aim to do? A.Offer expert guidance to professional surfers. B.Tell the youth about health benefits of surfing. C.Help older people overcome fears and keep active. D.Encourage social connections among young surfers. 34.What could we infer about the older women from the question “What about us?”? A.They disliked surfing. B.They desired to learn surfing. C.They were fearful of surfing. D.They were experienced in surfing. 35.Which of the following is the best title for the text? A.Being a Popular Surfer B.Getting the Elderly into the Surf C.Joining in Women’s Surfing Programs D.Pushing Seniors to Attend a Global Surfing Event 【答案】32.D 33.C 34.B 35.B 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。 根据第一段中“Another special form of surfing, which is easier on your knees, is bodyboarding where the surfer rides a specially designed bodyboard lying on the stomach. (另一种对膝盖更友好的特殊冲浪形式是趴板冲浪,冲浪者会俯卧在特制的冲浪板上进行滑行)”可知,趴板冲浪的特殊之处在于冲浪者在板上的姿势不同。故选D项。 33.细节理解题。根据第二段中“As people age, it’s common to lose confidence and develop a sharp sense of fear when beginning physical activities, especially those like surfing. Some surfing programs aim to fight these concerns by providing expert guidance and developing a sense of social connection while offering health benefits to seniors. (随着年龄增长,人们往往会在开始体育活动时失去信心并产生强烈的恐惧感,尤其是像冲浪这类运动时。一些冲浪课程旨在通过提供专业指导、培养社交联系,同时为老年人带来健康益处,来消除这些顾虑)”可知,这些冲浪课程的目标是帮助老年人克服恐惧、保持活跃。故选C项。 34.推理判断题。根据第三段中“The group began when founder Kim Buttfield was teaching a mom and daughter to surf, and some older women approached her and curiously asked, “What about us?” (这个团体最初成立时,创始人Kim Buttfield正在教一对母女冲浪,这时几位年长女性走过来好奇地问道:“那我们呢?”)”可知,几位年长女性提问“那我们呢?”,是想像那对母女一样学习冲浪,这表现出她们渴望学习冲浪的意愿。故选B项。 35.主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是第一段中“This sport is gaining popularity because of its appeal (吸引力) to people of all ages. In running, training your body is of great importance. Your lungs, legs and heart do most of the work. 36 Research has shown the incredible influence of mental conditions on performance. Here are some mental techniques to improve your running. Some runs may be a period of hard work, and the more you try to run through it, the worse you feel. 37 This allows you to feel better the next day. When you let your brain rest, it sets your body up to feel safe. The brain says, “I can listen to my body, and I can take care of my body.” This trust relaxes you, making runs more enjoyable. Positive self-talk improves performance of runners in hot conditions. It indeed contributes to better results. Interventions (干预) including self-talk training are more effective, which redirect your mind from discomfort, tiredness or other ideas that might get in your way. For example, you think to yourself “I can do this” — you’re actively not thinking or engaging in negative thoughts. 38 If you need to make a run more fun, challenge yourself to a speed play. For example, run slow for 30 seconds, then medium for 10 seconds, then fast for 20 seconds. 39 Try running slowly to one tree, then going at a reasonable pace to a mailbox. 40 When you train your mind, you can make runs that feel great happen more often. Your lungs, legs and heart do most of the work.(在跑步中,训练你的身体非常重要。 下文“Research has shown the incredible influence of mental conditions on performance.(研究表明,精神状况对表现有着令人难以置信的影响)”说明心理状态跑步中的表现有惊人影响。 C选项中的“just as essential”与上文中的“of great importance”相呼应,“Training your mind”和下文中的“incredible influence of mental conditions”相呼应。故选C。 37.上文“Some runs may be a period of hard work, and the more you try to run through it, the worse you feel.(有些跑步可能是一段艰苦的工作,你越努力跑过去,感觉就越糟糕)”说明有些跑步很艰苦,越努力越难受。下文“This allows you to feel better the next day.(这会让你第二天感觉更好)”说明这样做的好处。 38.上文“For example, you think to yourself “I can do this” — you’re actively not thinking or engaging in negative thoughts.(例如,你对自己说“我能做到”——你实际上没有思考或陷入消极的想法)”说明积极自我暗示能避免消极想法。 39.上文“If you need to make a run more fun, challenge yourself to a speed play. For example, run slow for 30 seconds, then medium for 10 seconds, then fast for 20 seconds.(如果你需要让跑步更有趣,挑战自己进行速度游戏。 A选项延续了用具体方式进行变速跑的思路,且下文“Try running slowly to one tree, then going at a reasonable pace to a mailbox.(试着慢慢跑到一棵树前,然后以合理的速度跑到邮箱前)”是对A选项的具体举例,故选A。 40.下文“When you train your mind, you can make runs that feel great happen more often. When you get home from a successful run, make a note — literally pen to paper or on your phone — of the reasons why it felt good. It will be a reminder of why you started running in the first place.(当你训练你的大脑时,你可以让感觉很棒的跑步更频繁地发生。 Twenty-five-year-old Jake had always been the kind of individual who avoided any form of physical activity. Sometimes Sara and her sisters would select the best ones to show at the State Fair. One day, Sara was surveying the strawberries. As Sara searched, she suddenly stopped short. Something surprising stood out in front of her. “Suzy! Stacey!” she shouted for her sisters. “Come see!” Her sisters walked over from the stable where they had been feeding the horses. When they got closer, they were shocked. There, growing under a leafy vine, was a strawberry the size of a pumpkin. “Unbelievable!” said Suzy. “I’ve never seen a strawberry that size.” Her sister Stacey suggested they submit the strawberry as their selection to the State Fair. “Such a significant strawberry should stand out from the competition.” Sara and Suzy agreed. The sisters settled on a scheme to support the fruit as much as possible before the fair. Every day, one would sit with the sizable strawberry and sing gentle songs, which did seem to stimulate the strawberry, and its size grew significantly. As Sara hummed, she giggled (咯咯笑) to herself, “This giant could bake a hundred pies!” She remembered her mother’s wisdom: “Never worry over split(裂开的)berries, girls—they’re just begging to become dessert.” In a week, the berry had grown to be as big as a watermelon. After the second week, it was as large as a tractor tire. It was time to take their substantial strawberry to the State Fair. The sisters somehow succeeded in shifting it safely onto the pick-up truck. Sara and Suzy sat on either side of the strawberry while Stacey drove. At the fair, the spectators crowded the sisters’ stand to see the surprising strawberry. “Sensational!” said a shoe salesman. “Shocking!” screamed a senior citizen. “Superb!” said the judge of the competition. “I’ve never seen such a splendid, superior one! I declare it the Supreme Strawberry of the State Fair!” The sisters screamed at their success. However, just at the moment of their victory, the fruit unexpectedly burst open. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Suddenly, Sara saw the nearby cake stand. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Possible version: However, just at the moment of their victory, the fruit unexpectedly burst open. The crowd gasped, and the sisters’ hearts sank. The once magnificent strawberry now lay in a sticky mess on the table. But Sara, ever the optimist, quickly recovered. “Look at the seeds!” she exclaimed, pointing to the numerous tiny seeds scattered all over. “This isn’t a loss, it’s a new beginning!” She proposed that they distribute the seeds to anyone interested, so everyone could grow their own giant strawberries. Suddenly, Sara saw the nearby cake stand. An idea sparked in her eyes. She approached the baker, explaining the situation and her plan. The baker, interested and impressed by her spirit, agreed to help. Together, they used the fresh strawberry pieces to create strawberry cakes, right there at the fair. The crowd, now delighted, lined up for a taste of the unplanned dessert. The sisters’ stall, initially known for the giant strawberry, was now the talk of the town for its delicious and inventive strawberry cake. The day ended with full bellies and happy hearts, proving that even when things don’t go as planned, a bit of creativity can turn a potential disaster into a sweet victory. 词汇激活: 行为类 ①分发种子:distribute the seeds / hand out the seeds ②接近:approach/ get close to 情绪类 ①乐观态度:the optimist / positive mindset ②惊喜结局:sweet victory / unexpected triumph 【点睛】 【高分句型1】She approached the baker, explaining the situation and her plan.(现在分词作状语) 【高分句型2】The baker, interested and impressed by her spirit, agreed to help. ………………○……………… … 学校:______________姓名:_____________班级:_______________考号:______________________ 2025-2026学年高一必修第二册英语单元测试 Unit3·基础卷 学校:___________班级:___________姓名:___________分数:___________ (时间:120分钟,满分:150分) 注意事项: 1. 1. B Last year, Brazilian cyclist Marcos Santos was at the best time of his career (事业). B.He took a totally different career path. C.He performed worse than expected. D.He won the national cycling championship. 25.How did Marcos originally react to his injury? A.He decided to give up cycling. B.He turned to his family and coaches. C.He was at a loss what to do. D.He immediately started training again. 26.Why did Marcos return to competitive cycling? A.To become a cycling coach. B.To prove an athlete should aim high. C.To test the limits of adaptive cycling technology. D.To inspire others to face their challenges bravely. 27.Which of the following words can best describe Marcos? A.Creative and confident. B.Energetic and careful. C.Patient and humorous. D.Responsible and determined. C Low back pain is one of the leading causes of disability in the world. D When people think about surfing, they imagine a young person riding the waves standing on a surfboard. A.Being a Popular Surfer B.Getting the Elderly into the Surf C.Joining in Women’s Surfing Programs D.Pushing Seniors to Attend a Global Surfing Event In running, training your body is of great importance. When you get home from a successful run, make a note — literally pen to paper or on your phone — of the reasons why it felt good. It will be a reminder of why you started running in the first place. A.You can also use objects as markers. B.Give yourself the option to try again. C.Training your mind is just as essential, though. D.Preparations before running are really necessary. E.You’re advised to increase your training intensity. F.Performing a mental review is strongly recommended. G.It shuts them off by focusing on something else and quiets anxieties. Twenty-five-year-old Jake had always been the kind of individual who avoided any form of physical activity. B Last year, Brazilian cyclist Marcos Santos was at the best time of his career (事业). D When people think about surfing, they imagine a young person riding the waves standing on a surfboard. A.Being a Popular Surfer B.Getting the Elderly into the Surf C.Joining in Women’s Surfing Programs D.Pushing Seniors to Attend a Global Surfing Event In running, training your body is of great importance.
