The first time I met Paul, he had a fierce determination in his eyes and a smile that wanted to taste victory. It was clear that he would stop at nothing to make his dream of climbing Mount Kosciuszko a reality. To his credit, he did it to raise funds for a cause close to his heart. And finally, he climbed the mountain with the help of our team of determined explorers. We made the 450-kilometer journey from Sydney to begin our adventure. Then on the morning of our big day, we set out earlier than the sun to Charlotte’s Pass — our start and our finish. With our bellies filled with coffee and our souls with excitement, we put on our harnesses (背带), pulled Paul and began our mission. The first 1 kilometer of our journey was mostly flat. Upon reaching Seaman’s Hut at the 6-kilometer mark, the weather shifted, with strong winds, a drop in temperature, and storm clouds appearing in the distance. Nonetheless, we battled on to Rawson’s Pass at 7.6 kilometers. We took a break to refuel our bodies. By this stage, everyone was starting to feel tired, but we were determined to conquer the last 900 meters to the top. Up until this point, the road was mostly well-worn, enabling our harness system to run smoothly. The last leg tested our persistence and teamwork, forcing us to climb over rocks and narrow platforms. Suddenly all of the sweat, aching muscles and lack of sleep didn’t matter. We had made it to the top of Australia, and there could not be a more beautiful experience than seeing the joy on everyone’s face. But we were only halfway through our mission. We still needed to return to Charlotte’s Pass to celebrate our victory with all the other teams involved. It was a quiet journey back, with everyone worn out and hungry. Then, almost 9 hours after we had left it, we ran to a cheering crowd. 4. What do we know about Paul? A. He hoped to get rid of his wheelchair. B. He dreamt of conquering Mount Kosciuszko. C. He achieved nothing due to illness. D. He competed with other people. 5. Which word best describes the climbing of the team? A. Exhausting. B. Smooth. C. Enjoyable. D. Discouraging. 6. What about the road after Rawson’s Pass? A. Winding. B. Well-worn. C. Destroyed. D. Challenging. 7. What does the author think is the most important about this climbing? A. The pleasure it brings. B. The scenery along the way. C. The teamwork of the members. D. The pursuit of success. B 5. A 6. D 7. 根据第一段中“It was clear that he would stop at nothing to make his dream of climbing Mount Kosciuszko a reality.(很明显,他会不遗余力地实现攀登科修斯科山的梦想)”可知,保罗梦想着征服科修斯科山。 根据第三段“By this stage, everyone was starting to feel tired, but we were determined to conquer the last 900 meters to the top.(到这个阶段,每个人都开始感到疲惫,但我们依然决心征服最后900米,抵达山顶)”及最后一段中“It was a quiet journey back, with everyone worn out and hungry.(这是一次安静的归途,每个人都筋疲力尽,饥肠辘辘)”可知,这次登山之旅是令人筋疲力尽的。故选A。 根据第三段“Nonetheless, we battled on to Rawson’s Pass at 7.6 kilometers.(尽管如此,我们还是奋力前行,抵达了7.6公里处的罗森隘口)”及第四段“Up until this point, the road was mostly well-worn, enabling our harness system to run smoothly. The last leg tested our persistence and teamwork, forcing us to climb over rocks and narrow platforms.(截至此时,这条路大部分都已被磨得很平滑,这让我们的安全带系统得以顺畅运行。最后一段路程考验着我们的耐力与团队协作能力,迫使我们不得不翻越岩石,穿过狭窄的平台)”可知,罗森隘口之后的路极具挑战性。故选D。 【7题详解】 推理判断题。 根据最后一段中“We had made it to the top of Australia, and there could not be a more beautiful experience than seeing the joy on everyone’s face.(我们登上了澳大利亚顶峰,没有什么比看到每个人脸上的喜悦更美好的经历了)”可推知,作者认为这次登山最重要的是它带来的快乐。故选A。 C The Nazca Lines (纳斯卡线条) are a famous group of huge ancient drawings in the desert in southern Peru. The Nazca people made the drawings by removing the reddish top layer of rocks in the desert. This revealed the lighter dirt underneath. The drawings are called “geoglyphs (地画)”. They were usually drawn with a single long, winding line. Many of the lines are extremely long, and can only be fully seen from the air. The largest geoglyph line is around 366 meters long. But most of the newly-found geoglyphs are smaller than the ones already discovered, and are roughly 9 meters in length. Many of the new geoglyphs seem to show humans, as well as animals. To find the new geoglyphs, the scientists trained a special AI program to analyze satellite images for likely geoglyphs. The AI program made a lot of mistakes — for every 36 possible geoglyphs the program found, the researchers discovered roughly one actual geoglyph. Even so, the new method turned up geoglyphs much faster than the scientists could have managed without drones (无人机) and AI. “What used to take three or four years, can now be done in two or three days,” said Johny Isla, who’s in charge of studying the Nazca Lines for the country of Peru. The researchers are still trying to figure out what the geoglyphs mean. Masato Sakai, who led the research, says the new discoveries are helping scientists learn more. For one thing, the scientists discovered a system of paths in the Nazca Desert. These paths aren’t far from groups of the smaller geoglyphs. The researchers believe the paths were made by the Nazca people walking through the desert, and that the smaller geoglyphs were meant to be seen by these travelers. The scientists think the way these smaller geoglyphs are grouped together may be the key to understanding them. The larger geoglyphs, which can only be fully seen and understood from the air, are different, and may have been used for ceremonies or other special events. 8. What do we know about the Nazca Lines from the first two paragraphs? A. They are bright red in color. B. They consist mainly of straight lines. C. They come in different sizes. D. They are invisible on the ground. 9. What does Johny Isla think of the AI program? A. Efficient. B. Groundbreaking. C. Time-consuming. D. Questionable. 10. What will be the focus of the following research on the Nazca Lines? A. The function of the path system. B. The way smaller geoglyphs are grouped. C. The reason why Nazca people liked the drawings. D. The purpose of creating the Nazca Lines. 11. What can be the best title of this text? A. AI Tools Help Find Ancient Nazca Lines B. All Functions of the Nazca Lines Revealed C. Viewing the Nazca Lines from the Air D. The Nazca Lines Come back to Life with AI 【答案】8. C 9. A 10. B 11. 根据第二段“The largest geoglyph line is around 366 meters long. But most of the newly-found geoglyphs are smaller than the ones already discovered, and are roughly 9 meters in length.(最大的地画线长约366米。但大多数新发现的地画都比已经发现的要小,长度大约为9米)”可知,纳斯卡线条大小不一。故选C。 【9题详解】 推理判断题。 根据第三段“Even so, the new method turned up geoglyphs much faster than the scientists could have managed without drones and AI. “What used to take three or four years, can now be done in two or three days,” said Johny Isla, who’s in charge of studying the Nazca Lines for the country of Peru.(即便如此,这种新方法发现地画的速度,比科学家在没有无人机和人工智能的情况下快得多。负责为秘鲁研究纳斯卡线条的Johny Isla说:“过去需要三到四年才能完成的事情,现在可以在两三天内完成”)”可知,Johny Isla认为人工智能效率很高。故选A。 根据第四段“The researchers are still trying to figure out what the geoglyphs mean. Masato Sakai, who led the research, says the new discoveries are helping scientists learn more.(研究人员仍在试图弄清楚这些地画的含义。领导这项研究的Masato Sakai说,新发现有助于科学家了解更多信息)”和第五段“The scientists think the way these smaller geoglyphs are grouped together may be the key to understanding them.(科学家们认为,这些较小的地画分组的方式可能是理解它们的关键)”可知,接下来对纳斯卡线条的研究重点将是较小地画的分组方式。 A。 D “Anyone can love the mountains, but it takes a soul to love the prairie (大草原).” wrote Willa Cather, author of “O Pioneers!”, the great novel of early westward struggles and the kind of character it took to appreciate the wild and vast beauty of the plains. The Native Americans of the Great Plains had lived off the land for many generations. To see them atop their horses, crossing the currents of golden grass, was surely a magnificent sight. And there were bison Millions of them. The bison has great spiritual significance to America’s first people. It represents life and abundance. A 2,000-pound animal is a lot of meat. Nearly every part of the bison was used for food, tools, clothing and shelter. It’s hard for us to imagine the green plains with grass as tall as a horse’s shoulder, and great herds of bison accompanied by deer, antelope and elk. The prairie provided everything a civilization needed — until the bison were gone. With the herds being hunted, the game herds decreased, native plants disappeared, drought and dust followed. Sadly, the land would lie depleted for over 150 years. But since 2014, Tanka Fund, a tribal-led nonprofit, has been creating a network of native bison farmers. In those 11 years, they have restored over 2,500 head of bison to 100,000 acres of land. Bringing back the bison has been symbolic of tribes regaining their place on the land. It has also brought about an unexpected recovery of the prairie ecosystem. The massive animals turn over and fertilize the ground for future growth. They plow through deep snow and uncover grass that deer and antelope cannot get to on their own. The lands inhabited by bison are filled with a variety of life. With the help of the Tanka Fund and the farmers committed to the return of the bison, the Great Plains are making a great comeback. It is an example to us all that recovery and abundance are possible. 12. Why is the novel “O Pioneers!” mentioned in Paragraph 1? A. To highlight the popularity of Willa Cather. B. To stress the toughness of living on the plains. C. To introduce a special period in American history. D. To show earlier people’s love for the prairie. 13. What does Paragraph 3 mainly tell us about the bison? A. Their characters. B. Their population. C. Their importance. D. Their living condition. 14. What is the probable meaning of the underlined word “depleted” in Paragraph 4? A. Independent. B. Noisy. C. Dry. D. Deserted. 15. What has the recovery of bison brought to the prairie? A. A healthier ecosystem. B. Destruction of surface soil. C. Decrease of other animals. D. Economic improvement. D 13. C 14. D 15. 根据第一段““Anyone can love the mountains, but it takes a soul to love the prairie.” wrote Willa Cather, author of “O Pioneers!”, the great novel of early westward struggles and the kind of character it took to appreciate the wild and vast beauty of the plains.(“任何人都能爱上群山,但唯有灵魂丰盈之人才能爱上大草原。” 《啊,拓荒者!》的作者薇拉·凯瑟写道。这部伟大的小说描绘了早期西进拓荒的艰辛,以及那种能够欣赏平原野性与辽阔之美的品格)”可推知,提到《啊,拓荒者!》这部小说是为了展示早期人们对草原的热爱。故选D。 【13题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第三段“The bison has great spiritual significance to America’s first people. It represents life and abundance. A 2,000-pound animal is a lot of meat. Nearly every part of the bison was used for food, tools, clothing and shelter.(北美野牛对美洲原住民有着重大的精神意义。它象征着生命与富足。一头重达2000磅的野牛能提供大量的肉,而且野牛身上几乎每个部位都被用来制作食物、工具、衣物和住所)”可知,本段主要讲述了北美野牛的重要性。故选C。 【14题详解】 词句猜测题。根据第四段划线词前“With the herds being hunted, the game herds decreased, native plants disappeared, drought and dust followed.(随着牛群被猎杀,猎物群减少,本地植物消失,随之而来的是干旱和尘土)”可知,北美野牛消失后,土地将会变得贫瘠,被废弃,因此可推测depleted与D项Deserted“荒芜的,废弃的”意思相近。 根据最后一段“Bringing back the bison has been symbolic of tribes regaining their place on the land. It has also brought about an unexpected recovery of the prairie ecosystem.(让野牛回归,象征着各部落重新在这片土地上找回自己的位置。这一举措还意外地促进了草原生态系统的恢复)”可知,北美野牛的恢复给草原带来了一个更健康的生态系统。故选A。 Accepting AI for small business growth is becoming necessary for success in today’s dynamic market. While money can provide necessities, education, and even happiness, it should not be the sole pursuit of life. In my opinion, money is a tool, not a goal. It enables us to help others, improve our lives, and contribute to society. However, valuable relationships, health, and personal growth are equally important. Therefore, I suggest using money wisely — saving for the future, donating to those in need, and investing in meaningful experiences. 词汇积累 起重要作用:play a significant role in → play a significant part in 于:lie in → consist in 依我看来:in my opinion → from my point of view 建议:suggest → recommend 2. Therefore I suggest using money wisely — saving for the future, donating to those in need, and investing in meaningful experiences. Therefore, I suggest we should use money wisely — saving for the future, donating to those in need, and investing in meaningful experiences. 1】Money plays a significant role in our lives, but its true value lies in how we use it. The way she and my mother rushed around the apartment, one might have thought royalty was expected, not just my piano teacher, Miss Sheldon. At 6:30, the table was set, but something felt wrong. The familiar smell of baked potatoes and chicken-fried steak — dishes I had specifically requested — was missing. Instead, the kitchen counter was crowded with plates of kibbeh (碎羊肉面饼), stuffed grape leaves, hummus, and other Lebanese (黎巴嫩的) dishes. My heart sank. My teacher, Miss Sheldon, is coming for a home visit and will have dinner with us. Miss Sheldon would never eat stuffed lamb! Before I could say something, the doorbell rang. Miss Sheldon stood there, smiling warmly, accompanied by a man named Ray, whom she introduced as her friend. My mother welcomed them warm-heartedly, and we all settled at the dining table. I prayed silently that my family wouldn’t embarrass me with my childhood stories. To my surprise, my grandmother immediately began praising Miss Sheldon’s teaching, while my mother proudly served the unfamiliar dishes. When Ray and Miss Sheldon hesitantly took small portions of the grape leaves and kibbeh, I held my breath, waiting for their polite but forced compliments. But then, something unexpected happened. Miss Sheldon’s eyes lit up after the first bite. She said excitedly how delicious the food was, and Ray enthusiastically agreed, mentioning that his own mother often cooked Lebanese dishes. The atmosphere shifted instantly. My grandmother’s face brightened as she learned that Ray’s mother was from Lebanon. The conversation flowed effortlessly, filled with shared cultural references and laughter. Even my mother’s embarrassing story about my childhood failed to weaken the mood. By the end of the evening, what I had feared would be an awkward dinner turned into a joyful gathering. As Miss Sheldon and Ray left, they thanked my family warmly, with Ray even promising to bring his mother over for a kibbeh-making session. Later, my mother gave me a knowing smile. “Still wish I’d made chicken-fried steak?” she joked. I sighed, unable to argue. For once, she had been right all along. The following week, Ray kept his promise. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ What had begun as a worrying evening turned into the start of a friendship. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 The following week, Ray kept his promise. He really took his mother and Miss Sheldon to my home. His mother, Mrs Thompson, arrived carrying her own version of kibbeh. She shared it with all of my family members. The kitchen then was filled with excitement as the two mothers exchanged cooking tips, comparing sports and techniques. Miss Sheldon watched with amusement, joking that she might need Chinese cooking lessons next. As for me, I no longer worried that my teacher might not like the dishes cooked by my mother. What had begun as a worrying evening turned into the start of a friendship. From that day on, our two families began meeting regularly, sharing all kinds of meals and stories. We knew each other better and became closer. Even my father, who had missed the first dinner, grew fond of Ray’s cooking. Looking back, I realized how wrong I had been to assume Miss Sheldon wouldn’t appreciate our food. That dinner taught me that unexpected connections often bring the most joy, and that my mother’s natural feelings were usually right. 词汇激活 行类 ①交换:exchange/swap ②开玩笑:joke/kid ③意识到:realize/be aware of 情绪类 ①兴奋:excitement/thrill ②担心:worry/concern 【点睛】【高分句型1】Even my father, who had missed the first dinner, grew fond of Ray’s cooking. C The Nazca Lines (纳斯卡线条) are a famous group of huge ancient drawings in the desert in southern Peru. 11 What can be the best title of this text? A AI Tools Help Find Ancient Nazca Lines B. All Functions of the Nazca Lines Revealed C. Viewing the Nazca Lines from the Air D. The Nazca Lines Come back to Life with AI D “Anyone can love the mountains, but it takes a soul to love the prairie (大草原).” wrote Willa Cather, author of “O Pioneers!”, the great novel of early westward struggles and the kind of character it took to appreciate the wild and vast beauty of the plains. B. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
