教学难点:analyse the pros and cons of different means of transport;
教学用具:Multi-media
教学方法:Group work, discussion
教学实施过程:
1. Have students read and interpret the quote on page 29.
This quote indicates that transport plays an important role in our daily life. When it goes
well, we feel as if it did not exist at all. Once it goes wrong, it affects our daily life. An
efficient public transport system can help the whole society function well. For example, if the
underground in our city stops running, a large number of the population that rely on it will
have to choose other means of transport, like the bus, taxi or car. Consequently, there will be
more traffic on the road leading to more traffic jams, which will be frustrating for commuters
and cause other issues such as arriving late at school or work.
2. Have students look at the pictures and answer the first question on page 29.
Human power; Steam; Electricity
3. Have students answer the second question on page 29
I can categorize means of transport according to where they are used, such as water
transport, underground transport, land transport and air transport. Transport can also be
categorized according to its purpose, such as passenger transport, freight transport and
medical transport like ambulances.
批 注
4. Have students compare the advantages and disadvantages of different means of transport.
Road transport:
Advantages: Not expensive; Suitable for short distances; Providing
door-to-door service; Using different routes to reach the destination quickly
Disadvantages: Not high speed; Not suitable for a long trip; Affected by weather and
seasons
Water transport:
Advantages: An economical mode for transporting heavy loads and cargo; Providing an
additional convenient travel option
Disadvantages: Time-consuming; Highly affected by weather conditions
Air transport:
Advantages: Fast and comfortable;Transporting passengers across the world; Delivering
goods to remote places; Highly reliable
Disadvantages: Most airports usually being far from the downtown; Highest cost of
transport; Affected by extreme weather conditions; Costly to build and high fuel consumption
Rail transport:
Advantages: Fast and comfortable; Ability of loading and unloading goods and providing
services; High frequency of delivering goods over long distances; No traffic congestion
Disadvantages: Great initial investments; Lack of flexibility with its routes and timings fixed
5. Have students answer the third question on page 29.
Future transport would probably aim to be faster, more eco-friendly and more
technologically advanced. Engineers are looking to create high-speed transport like the
hyperloop. Hyperloop trains will travel in sealed tubes that have very little air resistance,
allowing for extremely fast speeds. Another option could be flying cars, which can function
both on the ground and in the air. Using flying cars in the future could help reduce road
traffic. Both means of transport would probably be powered using renewable energy sources
like solar energy or hydrogen fuel.
