“When choosing a career, I’ve always believed that young people should seek what they truly love.” That’s exactly the path Moyun has taken. Moyun, a music influencer, gained fame by covering (翻唱) pop songs on the guzheng. Since 2014, her Bilibili uploads have earned millions of views.
Despite the overnight success, Moyun didn’t let it upset her life. “I was still a student at the time, and during those years focused on studying, the video’s sudden popularity didn’t really change my daily routine,” she recalled.
But the wave of positive comments from the audience greatly inspired her to follow her love for the guzheng. With this drive, Moyun has gained many fans by playing modern songs on the old guzheng and slowly created her own special way of mixing old and new music styles.
One standout example of her works is the cover of the Eagles’ Hotel California, which has gotten over 20 million views on YouTube. Many international viewers, after watching her videos, are amazed by her performances and often ask the same question: “What instrument is this? I’ve never seen it before.”
To Moyun, it’s unfortunate that the guzheng is not well-known outside of China. She thinks the common English translation for guzheng- “Chinese zither” -is not quite right. However, she is hopeful that this will change, especially as more young people in China seek to reconnect with their cultural roots.
“I believe that when we present the guzheng with cultural confidence on global stages, introducing it proudly by name, it will become the accepted universal term,” Moyun said.
Next, Moyun plans to play modern songs from different types of music using the guzheng, challenging ideas about traditional Chinese instruments. With a focus on finger-style techniques and original compositions, she aims to expand what the guzheng can do. “Don’t limit yourself — explore more,” she said.
4. What did Moyun do after her sudden success?
A. She quit her studies. B. She changed her performing style.
C. She turned a professional. D. She went about her daily life as usual.
5. What makes Moyun’s music particularly special?
A. Having unique stage presence. B. Mixing traditional and modern styles.
C. Reaching global followers online. D. Focusing on covering classical music.
6. What does Moyun’s attitude to the term “Chinese zither” indicate?
A. She favors spreading Chinese culture confidently.
B. She regards the guzheng as a type of the zither
C. She credits the guzheng’s global fame to the term.
D. She hopes Chinese young people reconnect with western culture.
7. Which of the following best describes Moyun?
A. Innovative. B. Honest. C. Considerate. D. Generous.
D 5. B 6. A 7. A

根据第五段中“To Moyun, it’s unfortunate that the guzheng is not well-known outside of China. She thinks the common English translation for guzheng- “Chinese zither” -is not quite right. However, she is hopeful that this will change, especially as more young people in China seek to reconnect with their cultural roots. (对墨韵来说,古筝在中国以外并不为人所知,这是不幸的。她认为古筝常见的英文翻译“Chinese zither”不太准确。然而,她希望这种情况会有所改变,尤其是随着越来越多的中国年轻人寻求与他们的文化根源重新建立联系。)”以及倒数第二段““I believe that when we present the guzheng with cultural confidence on global stages, introducing it proudly by name, it will become the accepted universal term,” Moyun said. (“我相信,当我们带着文化自信在全球舞台上展示古筝,并自豪地介绍它的名字时,它将成为被广泛接受的通用术语,”墨韵说道。)”可推知,墨韵对“Chinese zither”这个词的态度表明她支持自信地传播中国文化。故选A。

In a new study, conducted by Ohio State University, researchers set out to explain why children often gather more information than they need to complete a task, exploring new ways to solve it even when they know the best solution and have done many times before.
“Children can’t seem to stop themselves from gathering more information than they need to complete a task, even when they know exactly what they need,” Vladimir Sloutsky, co-author of the study and professor of psychology at The Ohio State University said.
Sloutsky thought this might be because children’s brains aren’t mature enough to understand the task or pay proper attention, or because they lack the control to focus. But, to his surprise, he found that the most likely reason for this “over-exploring” is that working memory is not fully developed in children. Therefore, while adults can easily remember the best way to complete a task, children are forced to question their often correct memories and re-explore tasks they’ve done before.
Simply, children don’t hold information they need to complete a task in their memory for very long, the study suggests.
Speaking about one of the tasks children were asked to complete in the study, where they were asked to identify an animal by uncovering parts of a hidden picture of them, Sloutsky explained that even though it became obvious after a few tries that the tail was the easiest and quickest part to uncover in order to identify the animal, the kids “just kept uncovering more body parts before they made their choice.”
“The children learned that one body part will tell them what the creature is, but they may be concerned that they don’t remember correctly. Their working memory is still under development,” Sloutsky said. “They want to resolve this uncertainty by continuing to sample, by looking at other body parts to see if they line up with what they think.”
The children in the study were aged between four and six, with more research set to uncover exactly when children’s working memory improves and gives them the confidence to “act more like adults do” when it comes to completing tasks.
8. What likely explains kids’ over-exploring a completed task?
A. Their short-term attention. B. Their hunger for more knowledge.
C. Their underdeveloped memory. D. Their inability to understand the task.
9. What were children asked to do in the experiment?
A. Identify the tail of an animal. B. Confirm a creature by its body parts.
C. Uncover the picture on a creature. D. Choose the picture of a hidden animal.
10. How did the children perform in the experiment?
A Really smart. B. Very flexible. C. Rather excited. D. Less confident.
11 What can be a suitable title for the passage?
A. How Do Children Explore the World?
B. What Is behind Children’s Poor Memory?
C. Why Should We Inspire Children’s Curiosity?
D. Why Do Children Like “Useless” Information?
C 9. B 10. D 11. D
根据第三段“But, to his surprise, he found that the most likely reason for this “over-exploring” is that working memory is not fully developed in children.(但令他惊讶的是,他发现造成这种“过度探索”现象的最主要原因在于儿童的短期记忆能力尚未完全发育成熟)”可知,孩子们过度探索已完成任务的信息是因为他们的工作记忆尚未完全发展。
根据第五段“Speaking about one of the tasks children were asked to complete in the study, where they were asked to identify an animal by uncovering parts of a hidden picture of them, Sloutsky explained that even though it became obvious after a few tries that the tail was the easiest and quickest part to uncover in order to identify the animal, the kids “just kept uncovering more body parts before they made their choice.”(谈到该研究中孩子们被要求完成的一项任务——他们需要通过揭开隐藏图片中的部分来辨认出所描述的动物时,斯洛茨基解释说,尽管经过几次尝试后人们很快就明白,要辨认出动物,最容易且最快捷的部分就是尾巴,但孩子们“在做出选择之前,还是不断揭开更多的身体部位。”)”
根据倒数第二段中“They want to resolve this uncertainty by continuing to sample, by looking at other body parts to see if they line up with what they think.(他们希望通过持续采样以及观察其他身体部位来解决这一不确定性,看看这些部位是否与他们的预期相符)”以及最后一段“The children in the study were aged between four and six, with more research set to uncover exactly when children’s working memory improves and gives them the confidence to “act more like adults do” when it comes to completing tasks.(该研究中的儿童年龄在 4 至 6 岁之间,接下来还将开展更多研究,以确切查明儿童的工作记忆何时会得到提升,并使他们能够“在完成任务时表现得更像成年人那样”)”可知,孩子们因为信心不足而不断地反复查看以获得更多信息。
根据第一段“In a new study, conducted by Ohio State University, researchers set out to explain why children often gather more information than they need to complete a task, exploring new ways to solve it even when they know the best solution and have done many times before.(在一项由俄亥俄州立大学开展的新研究中,研究人员试图解释为何孩子们在完成任务时往往会获取超出所需范围的信息,即便他们已经知晓最佳解决方案并且之前也多次使用过该方法)”以及文章主要解释了一种现象:即为什么孩子们经常收集比完成任务所需的更多的信息,即使他们确切地知道自己需要什么。
D
There are special moments in history when the world throws up a torrent of genius. Consider how, in a single century, the world saw Descartes, Leibniz, and Newton, not to mention Shakespeare, Milton, and Bach. Or consider how, in one generation, someone could hypothetically have met Bismarck, Queen Victoria, Marie Curie, and Edison.
But all of this pales in comparison to what German philosopher Karl Jaspers called the “Axial Age”. It’s here that we find the very origins of why we think the way we do today.
Modern humans have been around for roughly 250,000 years, and we’ve lived in complex societies for at least 6,000 years. Then, within a span of merely six centuries, there was a huge explosion of thought. From roughly 800 BC to 200 BC, all of the major civilizations produced incredible people with incredible ideas.
In Greece, we saw the likes of Socrates, Archimedes, Hippocrates, Plato, and Aristotle. In the Middle East, we got Jewish prophets like Isiah and Ezekiel, as well as Zoroaster in Persia. In India, we got the Buddha and the writing of the Hindu Upanishads. And in China, Confucianism and Daoism came into their own, as well as the famous Sun Tzu.
Seen up close, these thinkers can seem about as different as chalk and cheese. What could Lao Tzu’s Dao and Aristotle’s Eudaimonia have in common? How are Yahweh and Brahman similar? For Jaspers, when you zoom out a bit and see these thinkers as a whole, there are remarkable commonalities to be found.
The greatest of these is the move toward what’s called “universalism”. Universal truths, universal religion, and universal morals. It’s the idea that there are certain values and rules that ought to apply to everyone, everywhere, no matter the circumstances.
The Axial Age was an era where empires expanded outwards to become huge, both in terms of size and population. It was a time of the Persian and Carthaginian empires, the Roman Republic, and the Zhou Dynasty. This means several important things happened.
12. What do the underlined words “pales in comparison” in Paragraph 2 mean?
A. Becomes more obvious. B. Becomes less important.
C. Becomes less interesting. D. Becomes more influential.
13. What was the Axial Age mainly about?
A. Great thoughts. B. Political campaigns.
C. Scientific achievements. D. Geographic discoveries.
14. What does Jaspers try to stress about these great thinkers?
A. The similarity of their ideas. B. The difference between them.
C. The diversity of their thoughts. D. The significance of their contributions.
15. What will the author continue talking about in the paragraphs that follow?
A. The problems with the Axial Age. B. The great influence of the Axial Age.
C. The historical background of the Axial Age. D. The representative figures of the Axial Age.
B 13. A 14. A 15. C

根据第一段中“Consider how, in a single century, the world saw Descartes, Leibniz, and Newton, not to mention Shakespeare, Milton, and Bach. Or consider how, in one generation, someone could hypothetically have met Bismarck, Queen Victoria, Marie Curie, and Edison.(想想看,在短短一个世纪里,世界见证了笛卡尔、莱布尼茨和牛顿的诞生,更不用说莎士比亚、弥尔顿和巴赫了。或者想想看,在一代人的时间里,理论上一个人有可能见到俾斯麦、维多利亚女王、玛丽·居里和爱迪生。)”可知,在短短一世纪中可以见到诸多伟大的人物。根据划线词所在句子“But all of this pales in comparison to what German philosopher Karl Jaspers called the “Axial Age”(但所有这一切与德国哲学家卡尔·雅斯贝尔斯所称的“轴心时代”相比都……。)”以及下文“ It’s here that we find the very origins of why we think the way we do today.(正是在这里,我们找到了我们如今思维方式的真正起源。)”
根据第三段中“Then, within a span of merely six centuries, there was a huge explosion of thought. From roughly 800 BC to 200 BC, all of the major civilizations produced incredible people with incredible ideas.(然后,在仅仅六个世纪的时间里,思想发生了巨大的爆发。从大约公元前800年到公元前200年,所有主要文明都涌现出了拥有非凡思想的不凡人物。)”可知,“轴心时代”的最大特点是诞生了很多伟大先哲以及他们的杰出思想。故选A。
根据第五段“Seen up close, these thinkers can seem about as different as chalk and cheese. What could Lao Tzu's Dao and Aristotle's Eudaimonia have in common? How are Yahweh and Brahman similar? For Jaspers, when you zoom out a bit and see these thinkers as a whole, there are remarkable commonalities to be found. (从近距离看,这些思想家的思想似乎大相径庭。老子的“道”和亚里士多德的“幸福观”有什么共同之处?耶和华和梵天有何相似之处?对于雅斯贝尔斯来说,当你稍微拉远一点距离,把这些思想家看作一个整体时,就会发现它们有显著的共同之处。)”可知,雅斯贝尔斯试图强调这些伟大思想家之间的相似性。故选A。
根据文章最后一段“The Axial Age was an era where empires expanded outwards to become huge, both in terms of size and population. It was a time of the Persian and Carthaginian empires, the Roman Republic, and the Zhou Dynasty. This means several important things happened. (轴心时代是一个帝国在面积和人口上都向外扩张成为巨大帝国的时代。这是波斯帝国、迦太基帝国、罗马共和国和周朝的时代。这意味着发生了几件重要的事情。)”可知,本段介绍了轴心时代的历史背景,并暗示接下来将讲述这个时代的重要事件。因此,可以推断出作者接下来将继续讲述轴心时代的历史背景。选项C“The historical background of the Axial Age.(轴心时代的历史背景)”符合题意。
Do you want to get yourself a great photo?Learn how to look good and natural in your photo with these simple tips.
Keep it real. The human eye is very good at spotting the difference between a “social smile”,where just the mouth muscles are working, and a “real smile”, which reaches the eyes. If you force a smile for the photo, it risks making you look not genuine. ___16___
Get the eyeballing right. A straight gaze looks aggressive, while gazing down at the camera seems commanding and gazing up small and weak. ___17___ Whichever option you choose, it’s best to avoid extremes.
Design your body language. The wider your body stretches, the more relaxed you look. ___18___ Think of a king looking down thoughtfully from his throne. If you’re making a gesture, or the wind is blowing your hair, you look lively and playful—that’s great as long as it’s real. Again, people are good at detecting insincerity.
___19___ Avoid using selfies, which often come out looking either vain or self-conscious. There are lots of studios offering shots—and videos—that look attractive and natural. Talk to the photographer to make sure he/she puts you at ease, because that’s how you want to look on the site. ___20___ Make the trip as fun and loving as possible—when there’s someone you love behind the camera, you’ll show an affectionate look unconsciously, and people are more likely to think, “I want that person to look at me like that!”
A. Find your photographer.
B. Be creative in your photography.
C. Looking slightly at an angle is often the friendliest.
D. You will discover a lot about yourself through your photo.
E. Have your photo taken when you are really enjoying yourself.
F. Similarly, the stiller you are,the more formal and confident you seem.
G. For a cheaper option, ask a close friend to go somewhere nice with you and snap away.
E 17. C 18. F 19. A 20. G
由上文“If you force a smile for the photo, it risks making you look not genuine.(如果你在照片中强颜欢笑,可能会让你看起来不真诚。)” Have your photo taken when you are really enjoying yourself.(当你真正开心的时候再拍照。)
由上文“A straight gaze looks aggressive, while gazing down at the camera seems commanding and gazing up small and weak.(直视显得有攻击性,低头看镜头显得有掌控力,抬头看则显得渺小软弱。)”及下文“Whichever option you choose, it’s best to avoid extremes.(无论选择哪种,最好避免极端。)” Looking slightly at an angle is often the friendliest.(稍微侧视通常是最友好的。)
由上文“The wider your body stretches, the more relaxed you look.(身体伸展得越开,看起来就越放松。)” Similarly, the stiller you are, the more formal and confident you seem.(同样,你越安静,看起来就越正式和自信。)中“Similarly”表并列,“the stiller you are,the more formal and confident you seem”与上文“The wider your body stretches, the more relaxed you look” 形成对比,补充了不同身体语言的效果,逻辑完整。故选F项。
由下文“Avoid using selfies, which often come out looking either vain or self-conscious. There are lots of studios offering shots—and videos—that look attractive and natural. Talk to the photographer to make sure he/she puts you at ease, because that’s how you want to look on the site. (避免使用自拍,因为自拍往往看起来很虚荣或很不自在。有很多工作室提供看起来有吸引力和自然的镜头和视频。与摄影师交谈,确保他/她让你放松,因为这就是你想在网站上看到的样子。)”可知,此处需要提出关于拍摄者选择的建议。A项Find your photographer.(找到你的摄影师。) 故选A项。
由上文“Talk to the photographer to make sure he/she puts you at ease, because that’s how you want to look on the site.(与摄影师交谈,确保他/她让你放松,因为这就是你想在网站上看到的样子。)”及下文“Make the trip as fun and loving as possible—when there’s someone you love behind the camera, you’ll show an affectionate look unconsciously, and people are more likely to think, “I want that person to look at me like that!”(让这次旅行尽可能有趣和充满爱意——当相机后面有你爱的人时,你会无意识地露出深情的表情,人们更有可能想,“我希望那个人那样看着我!”)” For a cheaper option, ask a close friend to go somewhere nice with you and snap away.(作为更便宜的选择,让亲密的朋友和你一起去好地方抓拍。) 中“For a cheaper option”与上文“studios”形成对比,“close friend”呼应下文“someone you love”,提供了经济实惠的替代方案,衔接紧密。故选G项。

Every child hopes for gifts for Christmas. But it seemed that my family didn’t have enough money to buy me the bike that I’d wanted for Christmas. After supper was over on Christmas eve, I sat at the table, feeling sorry for myself.
It was cold outside. Soon Dad came back. “Come on, Eric,” he said. “Put on warm clothes. It’s cold out tonight.” I was really upset then. Not only was I not getting the bike for Christmas, but now Dad was dragging me out in the cold. But anyway, I got up and followed him.
Outside, in front of the house, our old truck was ready. The cold was already biting at me. Dad went into the woodshed (柴房) and came out with an armload of wood. “Dad,” I asked, “what are you doing?” He said, “I passed by Ms. Black’s house today. She is a single mother of three kids. Her eldest son, 8-year-old Robert, was out digging around in the woodpile trying to find a few chips. He was just wearing an old thin shirt, trembling with cold. They’re out of wood, Eric.” That was all he said and then he turned and went back into the room for a big ham. He handed them to me and told me to put them in the truck and wait. When he returned, he was carrying a bag of something in his hand. “What’s in the bag?” I asked. “Coats. They’re out of warm clothes. I got the children a little candy too. It just wouldn’t be Christmas without a little candy.”
We drove two miles to Ms. Black’s house. We stopped at the gate and unloaded the wood then we took the other things to the door. Ms. Black opened the door and let us in. The room felt cold. Such a small fire could hardly give off any heat at all. So Dad asked me to add more wood to the fire.

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
I soon made the fire burn brighter and everyone’s spirits rose high. The room felt warm now. The kids started giggling when Dad handed them each a piece of candy and a coat. Ms. Black looked with a smile. “The children and I have been praying that angels would come to our help and here you come,” she said with tears running down her face. Dad took each of the kids in his big arms and gave them a hug before we left. Out on the truck I felt a warmth that came from deep within and I didn’t even notice the cold.
On the way back home, Dad turned to me and began to explain about the bike I had longed for. It turned out that he and Mom had finally saved enough money to buy that bike for me. On his way to buy me the gift, Dad saw little Robert out of his house with an old thin shirt. “Son, I spent the money saved for your bike buying coats for the children. I hope you understand,” he said. I understood very well. Now the bike seemed very low on my list of priorities. Dad had given me the look on Ms. Black’s face and the joyful smiles of her three children.

C Reaching global followers online. D. Focusing on covering classical music.
6. What does Moyun’s attitude to the term “Chinese zither” indicate?
A. She favors spreading Chinese culture confidently.
B. She regards the guzheng as a type of the zither
C. She credits the guzheng’s global fame to the term.

13 What was the Axial Age mainly about?

C. Looking slightly at an angle is often the friendliest.
D. You will discover a lot about yourself through your photo.

We stopped at the gate and unloaded the wood, then we took the other things to the door. Ms. Black opened the door and let us in. The room felt cold. Such a small fire could hardly give off any heat at all. So Dad asked me to add more wood to the fire.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
I soon made the fire burn brighter and everyone’s spirits rose high.
