It’s not just a wall; it’s a symbol of architectural brilliance. Winding over 13,000 miles, it’s a great wonder that has stood the test of time. The view from the wall is breathtaking, with the mountains rolling out beneath you like a vast, ancient sea. It’s a place where you can almost hear the echoes (回响) of history, and it never fails to inspire admiration. Ben: The Terracotta Army — A Brief Look at Imperial China From a British historian’s viewpoint, the Terracotta Army (兵马俑) in Xi’an is a wealth of historical understanding. The life-sized soldiers, horses and chariots are an impressive display of the first emperor’s power and thorough attention to detail of ancient Chinese skilled workers. Each figure is unique, with different facial expressions and clothing, offering a window into the magnificence of the Qin Dynasty. It’s a place that makes you feel like you’ve stepped back in time. Dylan: The Li River — A Painter’s Wonderland As a French artist, I am fascinated by the graceful beauty of the Li River in Guilin. The river winds through limestone karsts, creating scenery that seems to have been from a Chinese painting. The reflections of the mountains on the calm water’s surface are charming. It’s a place that inspires quietness and creativity, a perfect spot to set up a painting stand and capture the essence (精髓) of China’s natural beauty. Clara: The Giant Pandas — A Success Story of Protecting Wildlife From an Australian environmental protector’s standpoint, the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding is a light of hope. The sight of these cute pandas in their semi-wild environments is heartwarming. It’s incredible to see the efforts made to protect and breed (繁殖) these adorable creatures, which are not only a symbol of China but also evidence of global efforts to protect wildlife. It’s a place that reminds us of our shared responsibility to protect our planet’s biodiversity. 1. What do both Alice and Ben want to convey? A. A sense of wonder and respect for history. B. Admiration for ancient skilled workers C. A serious concern about the war and peace. D. Regret for the long-lost soldiers. 2. What does Dylan think of the Li River? A. Its water is shallow enough for a cool bath. B. Mountains around it are the most attractive C. Its beauty might encourage painters’ inspiration D. Its popularity comes from ancient poems and paintings. 3. Why does the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding stand for hope? A. It appeals to people to resist pollution. B. It collects money for environmental protection. C. It contributes to better education globally. D. It raises people’s awareness of wildlife. A 2. C 3. 根据第一段“Whenever I, an American history enthusiast, think of China, the first thing that comes to mind is the Great Wall. The view from the wall is breathtaking, with the mountains rolling out beneath you like a vast, ancient sea. It’s a place where you can almost hear the echoes (回响) of history, and it never fails to inspire admiration.(作为一名美国历史爱好者,每当我想到中国时,首先浮现在我脑海中的就是长城。它不仅仅是一堵墙;它是建筑辉煌的象征。它蜿蜒超过13000英里,是一个经得起时间考验的伟大奇迹。站在城墙上的景色令人叹为观止,群山在你脚下绵延起伏,就像一片浩瀚而古老的海洋。在这里,你几乎可以听到历史的回声,它总是让人赞叹不已)”以及第二段“From a British historian’s viewpoint, the Terracotta Army (兵马俑) in Xi’an is a wealth of historical understanding. The life-sized soldiers, horses and chariots are an impressive display of the first emperor’s power and thorough attention to detail of ancient Chinese skilled workers. Each figure is unique, with different facial expressions and clothing, offering a window into the magnificence of the Qin Dynasty. It’s a place that makes you feel like you’ve stepped back in time.(从英国历史学家的角度来看,西安兵马俑是一个丰富的历史认识。真人大小的士兵、马匹和战车令人印象深刻地展示了第一位皇帝的权力和对古代中国熟练工人细节的彻底关注。每个人物都是独一无二的,有不同的面部表情和服装,提供了一个窗口进入辉煌的秦朝。这个地方会让你感觉时光倒流)”可知,爱丽丝和本都想传达一种惊奇感和对历史的尊重。故选A。 根据倒数第二段“It’s a place that inspires quietness and creativity, a perfect spot to set up a painting stand and capture the essence (精髓) of China’s natural beauty.(这是一个激发宁静和创造力的地方,是一个建立绘画展台和捕捉中国自然美景精髓的完美场所)”可知,迪伦认为漓江的美可能会激发画家的灵感。 根据最后一段“It’s incredible to see the efforts made to protect and breed (繁殖) these adorable creatures, which are not only a symbol of China but also evidence of global efforts to protect wildlife. If you’re Latanya DeVaughn, you will make a new and improved one! As a mom and writer, she had always dreamed of opening her own bookstore, so after watching another close its doors for good, she saw her chance. While Latanya said every neighborhood deserved a bookstore, actually making it happen simply wasn’t possible. What she came up with instead was to turn a bus into a bookmobile! With the help of her community, she raised money for her dream and, at the end of 2021, it came true! Bronx Bound Books rolled out in style as a bus with orange cube bookshelves. “People love the way it smells,” Latanya added. “One woman said the wood smell makes her feel like she’s at home.” Although the bookstore on wheels carries around 30,000 new and used books, it has more room than you might expect! Latanya also makes sure to prepare books with a variety of characters, so all readers can see themselves in the pages. Of course, her collection also features works of noted Black authors like James Baldwin and Alice Walker. “It’s meant to be that way,” she explained, “because I remember going to bookstores and having to look through books just to find someone I felt I could identify with.” Setting up her bookstore in a new spot each day, Latanya is doing her part to make sure that everyone in the neighborhood has books to read. That’s what Bronx Bound Books is for. “I can’t open up a bookstore on every corner, but I can probably pop up on tons of different corners,” she said. Thanks to Latanya and her Bronx Bound Books, the town is becoming a heaven for book lovers day by day. I’m sure that the little bookstore will continue to develop quickly! 4. How did Latanga DeVoughn respond to the shutdown of bookstores? A. She took over and reopened them soon. B. She set up her own special bookstore. C. She opened bookstores on every block. D. She called on neighbors to open a new one. 5. James Baldwin and Alice Walker are mentioned in paragraph 3 to show that________. A. it’s hard to store books with various characters. B. all readers can identify with Black authors. C. Latanya cares for individual readers’ need. D. Bronx Bound Books has limited room. 6. Why is Bronx Bound Books open? A. To recycle old books around the neighborhood. B. To raise money for Latanya DeVaughn’s dream. C. To make reading accessible to everyone in the neighborhood. D. To open up a bookstore on every comer across the world. 7. What does the author think of Bronx Bound Books? A. Alarming. B. Affordable. C. Creative. D. Promising. 【答案】4. B 5. C 6. C 7. What she came up with instead was to turn a bus into a bookmobile!(虽然Latanya说每个社区都应该有一家书店,但实际上这是不可能的。她想到的是把一辆公共汽车变成一辆流动图书车!)”可知,面对实体书店的关闭,Latanya创办了自己特殊的书店——流动图书车。故选B项。 【5题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段的句子“Latanya also makes sure to prepare books with a variety of characters, so all readers can see themselves in the pages. Of course, her collection also features works of noted Black authors like James Baldwin and Alice Walker. ‘It’s meant to be that way,’ she explained, ‘because I remember going to bookstores and having to look through books just to find someone I felt I could identify with.’(Latanya还确保有各种人物角色的书,这样所有读者都能在书中看到自己。当然,她的作品集也收录了詹姆斯·鲍德温和爱丽丝·沃克等著名黑人作家的作品。‘本来就是这样的,’她解释道,‘因为我记得我去书店,不得不翻阅书籍,只是为了找到一个我觉得可以认同的书’)”推知,第三段中提到詹姆斯·鲍德温和爱丽丝·沃克是为了表明Latanya关心每个读者的需求。故选C项。 【6题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段的句子“Setting up her bookstore in a new spot each day, Latanya is doing her part to make sure that everyone in the neighborhood has books to read. That’s what Bronx Bound Books is for.(Latanya每天在一个新的地方开设书店,尽自己的一份力量,确保社区里的每个人都有书可读。这就是Bronx Bound Books的目的)”可知,Bronx Bound Books的目的是确保社区里的每个人都有书可读。故选C项。 【7题详解】 推理判断题。根据文章的最后一段“Thanks to Latanya and her Bronx Bound Books, the town is becoming a heaven for book lovers day by day. I’m sure that the-little bookstore will continue to develop quickly!(多亏了Latanya和她的Bronx Bound Books,这个小镇正一天天成为图书爱好者的天堂。我相信小书店会继续快速发展!)”推知,作者认为Bronx Bound Books的前景很好。故选D项。 C Smartphones means that you can read the news, check the weather, and keep in touch with families and friends on social media. Being connected comes with a lot of benefits. But smartphones are not always good when they cause less family conversations or less attention in class. In January 2024, Brazil signed a bill to ban (禁止) smartphone use in schools, joining the trend (趋势) in the US and Europe. The law applies to public and private schools and isn't just limited to classrooms. Using smartphones in hallways is also not allowed. The law follows a growing ban against smartphone use in all of Brazil's states' schools including Rio de Janeiro. Almost two-thirds of schools in Brazil introduced limitations and 28 percent had complete bans. “Students were having trouble focusing,” a school's headmaster Meire Nocito said. “There was also the problem of social isolation (孤立). Many students who used technology too much would stay alone during breaks, only communicating through social media. Banning smartphone use has helped create a space for social interaction, developing relationships and teaching students to deal with disagreements and arguments, which are a normal part of human interactions. It has been very positive.” Brazilians have one of the highest smartphone use rates in the world. There are actually more phones than people in this South American country with 258 million devices for 203 million people. Brazilians spend over nine hours a day on their phones. This is a hard habit to break. Smartphones have been connected with physical and mental health issues. Mariana Waetge, a 13-year-old student, uses her smartphone to talk with friends and family and to find entertainment on Instagram. Now that she is forced to put her phone away at school, she has found new ways to interact with friends. Brazil, along with France and China, is limiting smartphone use in schools. This measure will not only improve students' academic performance but also make their mental health better. 8. What is not allowed since 2024 if you are a Brazilian student? A. Chat with classmates at breaks. B. Read online news outside classrooms. C. Use a phone to check the weather at home. D. Take photos with a smartphone in the park. 9. What does paragraph 3 mainly about? A. Measures to develop friendship. B. Ways of keeping focused in class. C. Reasons for banning smartphones. D. Advantages of smartphones. 10. Which is correct according to the text? A. Brazilians use their phones for only 9 hours every day. B. Each Brazilian owns a smartphone. C. Brazilians have a high rate of phone use. D. There are 258 million phones across South America. 11. What is the writer likely to talk about next? A. The ownership of smartphones in France and China. B. Advantages of current social media. C. Methods of balancing online entertainment and learning. D. Positive influences of no-phone school on students. B 9. C 10. C 11. 根据第一段“In January 2024, Brazil signed a bill to ban (禁止) smartphone use in schools, joining the trend (趋势) in the US and Europe. The law applies to public and private schools and isn't just limited to classrooms. Using smartphones in hallways is also not allowed.(2024 年 1 月,巴西签署了一项禁止在学校使用智能手机的法案,加入了美国和欧洲的这一趋势。该法律适用于公立和私立学校,且不仅限于教室。在走廊使用智能手机也是不被允许的)”可知,作为一个巴西学生,在学校范围内使用智能手机是被禁止的,因此,不可以在教室外面阅读网络新闻。故选B。 【9题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第三段“Students were having trouble focusing,” a school's headmaster Meire Nocito said. It has been very positive.”(“学生们难以集中注意力,” 一所学校的校长梅雷・诺西托说。“还有社交孤立的问题。许多过度使用科技产品的学生在课间会独自待着,只通过社交媒体交流。禁止使用智能手机有助于创造一个社交互动的空间,发展人际关系,并教导学生处理分歧和争论,这是人类互动的正常部分。这是非常积极的。”)”可知,此段主要阐述了学生使用智能手机存在的问题以及禁止使用智能手机带来的好处,也就是在说明禁止在学校使用智能手机的原因。故选C。 【10题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段“Brazilians have one of the highest smartphone use rates in the world. There are actually more phones than people in this South American country with 258 million devices for 203 million people. Brazilians spend over nine hours a day on their phones.(巴西人是世界上智能手机使用率最高的人群之一。 根据最后一段“Brazil, along with France and China, is limiting smartphone use in schools. This measure will not only improve students' academic performance but also make their mental health better.(巴西,连同法国和中国,正在限制学校使用智能手机。 D。 D California has lost half its big trees since the 1930s, according to a study to be published Tuesday and climate change seems to be a major factor (因素). The number of trees larger than two feet across has declined by 50 percent on more than 46, 000 square miles of California forests, the new study finds. No area was spared or unaffected, from the foggy northern coast to the Sierra Nevada Mountains to the San Gabriels above Los Angeles. In the Sierra high country, the number of big trees has fallen by more than 55 percent; in parts of southern California the decline was nearly 75 percent. Many factors contributed to the decline, said Patrick McIntyre, an ecologist who was the lead author of the study. Woodcutters targeted big trees. Housing development pushed into the woods. Aggressive wildfire control has left California forests crowded with small trees that compete with big trees for resources (资源). But in comparing a study of California forests done in the 1920s and 1930s with another one between 2001 and 2010, McIntyre and his colleagues documented a widespread death of big trees that was evident even in wildlands protected from woodcutting or development. The loss of big trees was greatest in areas where trees had suffered the greatest water shortage. The researchers figured out water stress with a computer model that calculated how much water trees were getting in comparison with how much they needed, taking into account such things as rainfall, air temperature, dampness of soil, and the timing of snowmelt (融雪). Since the 1930s, McIntyre said, the biggest factors driving up water stress in the state have been rising temperatures, which cause trees to lose more water to the air, and earlier snowmelt, which reduces the water supply available to trees during the dry season. 12. What is the second paragraph mainly about? A. The increasing variety of California big trees. B. The seriousness of big-tree loss in California. C. The distribution of big trees in California forests. D. The influence of farming on big trees in California. 13. Which of the following is well-intentioned but may be bad for big trees? A. Ecological studies of forests. B. Banning woodcutting. C. Fire control measures. D. Limiting housing development. 14. What is a major cause of the water shortage according to McIntyre? A. Inadequate snowmelt. B. A longer dry season. C. Dampness of the air. D. A warmer climate. 15. What can be a suitable title for the text? A. Why Are the Big Trees Important to California Forests? B. Cutting of Big Trees to Be Prohibited in California Soon C. California’s Forests: Where Have All the Big Trees Gone? D. Patrick McIntyre: Grow More Big Trees in California 【答案】12. B 13. C 14. D 15. 根据第二段“The number of trees larger than two feet across has declined by 50 percent on more than 46, 000 square miles of California forests, the new study finds. No area was spared or unaffected, from the foggy northern coast to the Sierra Nevada Mountains to the San Gabriels above Los Angeles. In the Sierra high country, the number of big trees has fallen by more than 55 percent; in parts of southern California the decline was nearly 75 percent.(新的研究发现,在超过46000平方英里的加州森林中,直径超过两英尺的树木数量减少了50%。 根据最后一段“Since the 1930s, McIntyre said, the biggest factors driving up water stress in the state have been rising temperatures, which cause trees to lose more water to the air, and earlier snowmelt, which reduces the water supply available to trees during the dry season.(McIntyre说,自20世纪30年代以来,导致该州水资源压力加剧的最大因素是气温上升,这导致树木向空气中流失更多的水分,以及雪融化的提前,这减少了旱季树木可获得的水供应)”可知,造成加州水资源短缺的最大因素是温度升高。 通读全文,结合第一段“California has lost half its big trees since the 1930s, according to a study to be published Tuesday and climate change seems to be a major factor.(根据周二发表的一项研究,自20世纪30年代以来,加州已经失去了一半的大树,气候变化似乎是一个主要因素)”可知,本文主要介绍了加利福尼亚州森林地区大树数量减少的现状,随后分析了大树总量减少的原因。 Low-carbon living is about fighting climate change by saving resources and reducing emissions (排放) of greenhouse gases. After all, a healthier planet is also healthier for us! ___16___ Besides turning off lights, recycling paper and plastics, there’s still a lot more we can do. Check before you buy. Not all electrical devices (设备) are designed for ideal energy efficiency. Even if two rice cookers share the same features, the amount of energy they require to run on may be different. ___17___ Check for energy labels (商标) when we’re buying energy-efficient products! Shut electrical equipment off. ___18___ Turning off your computer beyond working hours for a month is equal to charging your phone 1,000 times. Reducing your monitor brightness by 20% for a day also matters much. The amount of energy saved by shutting off unused lights and TV during non-working hours for a year can save a lot of energy. ___19___ Transportation is the second largest source of greenhouse gases, and we all know the environmental benefits of using mass public transport. But if you need a private vehicle, there are also low-carbon options. For example, electric vehicles (EVs) produce zero emissions. Treat e-waste properly. Responsible waste management is key to a green lifestyle, and one type of waste is often ignored: e-waste. Discarded (丢弃的) devices can cause disasters to the environment and our health,as they contain poisonous chemicals. ___20___ A. Say no to private vehicles. B. Travel in a wiser and smarter way. C. Do you often leave your computer on after work? D. By reducing our carbon footprint, we’ll have a cleaner world. E. Why not give them a second life by gifting them to those in need? F. That means you’ re paying extra for the same functions performed. G. Instead of throwing them around, bring them to special recycling points. D 17. F 18. C 19. B 20. 【16题详解】 根据上文“Low-carbon living is about fighting climate change by saving resources and reducing emissions (排放) of greenhouse gases. After all, a healthier planet is also healthier for us!(低碳生活是通过节约资源和减少温室气体排放来应对气候变化。 D选项 “By reducing our carbon footprint, we’ll have a cleaner world.(通过减少我们的碳足迹,我们将拥有一个更清洁的世界)”进一步说明了低碳生活能带来的好处,与前文逻辑连贯,起到承接上文的作用,故填D。 【17题详解】 根据上文“Not all electrical devices (设备) are designed for ideal energy efficiency. Even if two rice cookers share the same features, the amount of energy they require to run on may be different.(并非所有的电器设备都设计为具有理想的能源效率。 F选项“That means you’re paying extra for the same functions performed.(这意味着你为相同的功能支付了额外的费用)”是对前文的合理推断,解释了能源效率不同所带来的经济影响,与前文内容紧密相关,故填F。 【18题详解】 根据下文“Turning off your computer beyond working hours for a month is equal to charging your phone 1,000 times.(下班后关闭电脑一个月,相当于给手机充电1000次)”可知,这里以电脑为例说明关闭电器设备能节省能源。C选项“Do you often leave your computer on after work?( 你下班后经常让电脑开着吗?)” 【19题详解】 根据下文“Transportation is the second largest source of greenhouse gases, and we all know the environmental benefits of using mass public transport. But if you need a private vehicle, there are also low-carbon options. Mr. Smith praised her for the great work. After Mrs. Smith had pressed the money into her hand, Anna didn’t even look at the money and then walked out of the house. She’d expected ten dollars. Now she saw that it was a one-hundred-dollar bill! Anna imagined her parents’ faces when she handed them the one hundred dollars. Things hadn’t been easy for Anna’s family since Anna’s dad had lost his engineering job a year ago. There had been no new clothes or movies in the last year. They no longer went out to eat on Fridays. Anna didn’t really mind, as long as her family was together. But now she could help. One hundred dollars! That was enough to fill the car with gas or to buy a bag of groceries. Her excitement faded as she wondered if Mrs. Smith realized how much money she had given her. Could she have made a mistake? Anna felt bad as she remembered that Mrs. Smith had simply pulled the money from her purse without looking at it. Anna thought, “Maybe Mrs. Smith meant to give me the one-hundred-dollar bill. Baby-sitting three children is a lot of work.” Soon Anna remembered that the Smiths didn’t seem to have much money, either. But, she silently argued with herself. “They gave me the money. I didn’t steal it.” She found her parents in the living room. Anna took a deep breath and told them what had happened. “I wanted to give the money to you to help out the family, but I think Mrs. Smith made a mistake.” She continued. “I’m going to give it back to her.” Dad settled his big hand on her shoulder. “You just gave us the best gift, Anna.” Mom kissed her. “We’re proud of you, sweetheart.” The next morning, Anna went to Mrs. Smith’s house again. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Mrs. Smith opened her purse and counted out ten dollars. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: The next morning, Anna went to Mrs. Smith’s house again. “I think you overpaid me last night,” she said and handed the one-hundred-dollar bill to her. Then this morning, I couldn’t find it.” She started to cry. “It’s the last payment for something my husband needed. I made a mistake of giving you the one hundred dollars, but you are such an honest and kind girl that you did not keep it.” Mrs. Smith opened her purse and counted out ten dollars. “I hope you’ll baby-sit for us again. Our children think you’re the best baby-sitter they’ve ever had, and so do I. I think they will be proud of having such a great sister to baby-sit them!” Anna said yes and went back home happily. It’s not just a wall; it’s a symbol of architectural brilliance. Winding over 13,000 miles, it’s a great wonder that has stood the test of time. B What will you do when one of the few bookstores in your neighborhood shuts down? 4. C Smartphones means that you can read the news, check the weather, and keep in touch with families and friends on social media. D California has lost half its big trees since the 1930s according to a study to be published Tuesday and climate change seems to be a major factor (因素). D. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
