China is home to many amazing animals, like giant pandas, tigers, and golden monkeys. However, these animals are in danger because of hunting, pollution, and loss of their homes. We must work together to protect them.
Why Wildlife Matters
Animals help keep nature in balance. For example, birds spread seeds, and bees help plants grow. If animals disappear, the environment will suffer. Some species, like the Yangtze River dolphin, are already gone forever. We must act now to save others.
What China Is Doing
China has made new laws to stop hunting and protect animal habitats (栖息地). Nature reserves, like the ones for pandas, help animals live safely. Scientists are also breeding (繁殖) endangered animals and releasing (释放) them back into the wild.
How You Can Help
Everyone can do something to protect wildlife:
-Do not buy goods made from endangered animals.
-Follow the rules when visiting nature reserves.
-Tell others about wildlife protection.
-Report illegal (非法的) hunting or selling of animals.
A Better Future
If we act now, animals like pandas and tigers can survive. Protecting wildlife means protecting our future. Let’s work together to keep China’s nature beautiful and full of life!
25. What is the main reason why some animals in China are disappearing?
A. They don’t like the weather. B. They are short of proper food.
C. They want to live in other countries. D. They don’t have enough room to live in.
26. What will probably happen because of China’s wildlife protection laws?
A. People can hunt if necessary. B. All animals will move to zoos.
C. There may be less illegal hunting. D. Animal habitats must be enlarged (扩大).
27. How can students help protect animals?
A. By keeping wild animals in zoos. B. By knowing more about wild animals.
C. By drawing posters of endangered animals. D. By feeding wild animals on their favorite food.
28. What’s the main idea of the passage?
A. Wild animals in China are disappearing.
B. Zoos are the best places for wild animals.
C. China’s wildlife requires protection from everyone.
D. Human activities have destroyed wild animals’ homes.

Spider-Man is often thought of as one of the most popular superheroes of all time. But did you know that he almost wasn’t created?
Stan Lee came up with the idea for Spider-Man in 1962. He was a different kind of superhero from what had come before. He was a teenager who had everyday problems. Back then, superheroes were strong, grown men who saved people. Teenagers were helpers. The heroes didn’t have to worry about real-life problems like paying bills and caring for an old relative. They flew in the sky and fought aliens. Stan Lee was about to change that.
When Stan told his boss about Spider-Man, his boss said it was “the worst idea” he’d ever heard, reported the Vintage News. For a time, it seemed that it was the end for Stan’s friendly neighborhood hero.
But then, Stan had an idea. One of Marvel Comics’ books was going to stop. Stan Lee said, “Nobody cared what you put inside a book that was going to be killed.” So, Stan Lee teamed up with artist Steve Ditko, who made Spider-Man’s iconic (标志性的) look. Together, they put Spider-Man in the 15th and last issue (期) of the comic book Amazing Fantasy.
Spider-Man was a huge hit. The issue, showing the superhero on its cover, was a bestseller. And so, Spider-Man was given his own comic book, The Amazing Spider-Man. He has become one of the most beloved fictional (虚构的) characters of all time. So, if you have an idea that you think is great, don’t give up!
29. Why was Spider-Man different from other superheroes at the time?
A. Because he fought aliens from outer space.
B. Because he had to deal with real-life problems.
C. Because he was a grown man, stronger than others.
D. Because he never worried about looking after an old family.
30. How did Stan Lee finally get to create Spider-Man?
A. He started his own company. B. He sold the idea to another publisher.
C. He got money and support from Steve Ditko. D. He used a comic book that was almost ending.
31. What does the underlined phrase “a huge hit” in the last paragraph mean?
A. Spider-Man was a total failure. B. Spider-Man became very popular.
C. Spider-Man caused a book to be killed. D. Stan Lee got hurt while writing Spider-Man.
32. What’s the best title of the passage?
A. A Different Hero. B. Spider-Man’s First Story.
C. Marvel’s Best Superhero. D. The Secret History of Marvel Comics.

DeepSeek Rocks the AI world
①For more than a month, the world has been very excited about a new AI model called DeepSeek-R1. The company behind it, also called DeepSeek, is a business based in Hangzhou, Zhejiang.
②The new AI first appeared on Jan 20. In just one week, it beat OpenAI’s ChatGPT and became number one free application (应用) in the App Store. What is so special about it?
③According to DeepSeek, the new AI model is as good at difficult activities like math as other big-time models. But it needs much less computing power (算力) to do that. It is also the cheapest of its kind and took only about 5.57 million US dollars (40.58 million yuan) to make. DeepSeek even uses advanced technology to understand and produce human-like texts. It can be used for many tasks, such as:
- “Homework Help” : Explaining math problems or writing essays.
- “Language Learning” : Translating between English and Chinese.
- “Coding (代码) Assistance” : Supporting writing and fixing code.
④The achievement was largely thanks to an idea the scientist had when they trained it. Instead of using the traditional ways, DeepSeek mainly uses Reinforcement Learning (RL, 强化学习). It helps AI learn by working out the right way to do things on its own to get points. This makes R1 better at understanding and solving hard problems.
⑤What’s more, DeepSeek-R1 is open-source (开源的). Everyone is free to get a copy of its code. They can also change the code and make further improvements to meet their own needs. Being open-source is very important for sharing knowledge and making technology better for everyone, said Liang Wenfeng who set up Deepseek.
33. How quickly did’DeepSeek-R1 become the top free app after its release (发行)?
A. Within one week. B. After one month.
C. Immediately on its release day. D. It never reached the top place.
34. What is one of the main advantages of DeepSeek-R1 compared to other AI models?
A. It can only be used for coding tasks. B. It is able to translate Chinese into English.
C. It costs more to develop than other AI models. D. It performs well but using less calculating power.
35. How is the article organized?
A. B. C. D.
36. What is the main purpose of this text?
A. To compare different AI companies in China and the U. S.
B. To explain why an open-source app is always better than a paid app.
C. To introduce DeepSeek-R1, its advantages and effect on AI technology.
D. To criticize (批评) the high cost of developing AI models like ChatGPT.

The Great Pet Competition
One sunny afternoon, the animals in the village decided to hold a competition to see who would make the “best pet”. Dogs, birds, cats and even a little fish joined it.
First, the dog barked, “I am the best pet! I can guard the house, play fetch, and even help the police. I am faithful and always happy to see my owner!”
Then, the cat purred, “No, I am the best! I am clean, quiet, and very independent. I don’t need walks, and I can catch mice. Plus, people love my soft fur!”
The bird chirped, “But I can sing beautiful songs! I bring music and joy to the house. I don’t take up much space, and children love to watch me.”
Finally, the fish bubbled, “I may not bark or purr, but I am peaceful and relaxing to watch. My tank is like a tiny piece of the ocean inside the home!”
The competition lasted for three hours. Finally, the wise old owl, who was judging, said, “Each pet is special in its own way. The best pet depends on what a person needs and loves.”
Moral of the story: Different pets have different strengths. The best pet is the one that fits best with its owner’s life!

Everyone can do something to protect wildlife:
-Do not buy goods made from endangered animals.
-Follow the rules when visiting nature reserves.
-Tell others about wildlife protection.
-Report illegal (非法的) hunting or selling of animals.

29 Why was Spider-Man different from other superheroes at the time?
