What is the tone of a personal letter?
It is obviously an informal letter.
本模块以“个人经历”为话题,对自己的亲身经历进行描述,并表达自己的真实感受。高考英语作文(尤其是全国卷及多数自主命题卷)常聚焦 “应用文体”,而书信是核心考查形式之一。个人经历类书信因能融合 “格式规范” 与 “内容个性化”,成为高频考点。它要求考生严格遵循书信格式(如称呼、开头问候、正文、结尾祝福、署名等)同时需通过具体经历(如一次难忘的活动、一段成长感悟、一次帮助他人的经历等)传递情感或观点,考查叙事逻辑与表达能力。

Read two personal letters from Simon and Li Ping, and answer the following questions.
How do Simon and Li Ping start their letters?
Simon: He starts with the greeting “How are you?” and some questions asking about Li Ping’s latest news.
Li Ping: She starts with a response to Simon’s experience. She responds that she feels sorry to hear that Simon is worried about the exam results and says rock climbing sounds great.
Read two personal letters from Simon and Li Ping, and answer the following questions.
2. What does Simon tell Li Ping about his life? What does Li Ping tell Simon about her life?
Simon tells Li Ping that he is worried about his exam results and he has taken up rock climbing and he really likes it.
Li Ping tells Simon that she has decided to give up competitive tennis. She now gets the support from her parents and has a new social life.

Simon feels stressful about the exams but quite excited about rock climbing.
Li Ping feels fortunate and relieved when her parents accept the news of her giving up competitive tennis and feels happy about her new social life.

4. How do you know their feelings?
In both letters, we can find some adverbs, such as obviously, surprisingly, luckily to express feelings and attitudes. We can also find expressions like “pretty stressed” “I actually really like it!” and some exclamation marks(!). These exaggerations can all be used to show one’s feelings or attitudes.

5. How can you tell these two are informal letters?
They both use “Hi” as a friendly and informal way to address each other. They also use informal words and expressions such as “write soon, take care and love”.

Last weekend, we took part in a picking activity, which has impressed and inspired all of us.
We drove from the school, and the farm was about 2 kilometers away from our school. When we arrived at the farm, there are all kinds of animals, green fresh vegetables and fruit trees in the farm. We were divided into two groups. One group was responsible for picking fruits, the other packed up the fruits. It is really an unforgettable and meaningful day.

Last week, the Spring Sports Meeting was held in our school. And the running race I participated in has made a profound impression on me.
As I raced around the track, I encountered a difficult moment when I felt my energy waning and my legs starting to tire. Suddenly, I fell on the track. However, I got up at once and focused on controlling my breathing and maintaining a steady rhythm. With each stride, I propelled myself forward with determination. Finally, I managed to finish the race.
This race was a rewarding experience that taught me the power of perseverance and the satisfaction of pushing myself beyond my limits. I am grateful for the opportunity to test my endurance.
