《英语 基础模块3》(高教版2023修订版) Unit 3 Artificial Intelligence 一课一练(13) Reading and Writing 一、阅读理解:根据短文内容,从A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳答案(共5小题,每小题1分,共5分) Rich countries are racing to dematerialize payments. They need to do more to prepare for the side-effects. For the past 3,000 years, when people thought of money they thought of cash. Over the past decade, however, digital payments have taken off— tapping your plastic on a terminal or swiping a smartphone has become normal. Now this revolution is about to turn cash into an endangered species in some rich economies. That will make the economy more efficient — but it also causes new problems that could hold back the transition (转型). Countries are removing cash at varying speeds. In Sweden the number of retail cash transaction per person has fallen by 80% in the past ten years. America is perhaps a decade behind. Outside the rich world, cash is still king. But even there its leading role is being challenged. In China digital payments rose from 4% of all payments in 2012 to 34% in 2017. Cash is dying out because of two forces. One is demand — younger consumers want payment systems that plug easily into their digital lives. But equally important is that suppliers such as banks and tech firms (in developed markets) and telecoms companies (in emerging ones) are developing fast, easy-to-use payment technologies from which they can pull data and pocket fees. There is a high cost to run the infrastructure (基础设施) behind the cash economy —ATMs, vans carrying notes, tellers who accept coins. Most financial firms are keen to abandon it, or discourage old-fashioned customers with heavy fees. In the main, the prospect of a cashless economy is excellent news. Cash is inefficient. When payments dematerialize, people and shops are less open to theft. It also creates a credit history, helping consumers borrow. Yet set against these benefits are a couple of worries. Electronic payment systems may risk technical failures, power failure and cyber attacks. In a cashless economy, the poor, the elderly and country folk may be left behind. And a digital system could let governments watch over people’s shopping habits and private multinationals exploit their personal data. 1.Some rich countries are trying to ______. A.dematerialize money B.get rid of the side-effects of cash C.make the economy more efficient by protecting endangered species D.promote payment without paper money or coins 2.In Paragraph 3, several countries are mentioned to show ______. A.the differences between developed and developing countries B.that cash is still king across the world C.digital payments are becoming a trend that cannot be stopped D.China is developing faster than those developed countries in digital payment 3.Cash is disappearing largely because ______. A.younger consumers are short of money to live their digital lives B.suppliers are trying to reduce costs and obtain money and data C.the infrastructure is developing at a high speed in developed markets D.financial firms want to abandon old-fashioned customers 4.The author’s attitude towards digital payments is ______. A.favorable B.negative C.objective D.indifferent 5.The underlined word “abandon” in the fourth paragraph means ______. A.stop using or having something B.make use of something C.depend on something D.a bad man (共10小题,每小题1分,共10分) ChatGPT is a new kind of computer program that can talk to people. It was 6 (make) by OpenAI, a group of people 7 want to use computers to help the world. ChatGPT is very 8 (smartly) because it can read a lot of words on the Internet and learn from them. It can write sentences about many things, like 9 (scientific), history, sports, and movies. But ChatGPT is not just a writer. It is also a listener and a 10 (speak). It can 11 (understood) what people say and reply to them. ChatGPT can do many things that other computer programs cannot. For example, it can answer more 12 (question), correct people when they are wrong. It can also make jokes, show feelings, and have a personality to make the talk more fun and friendly. ChatGPT can talk about many topics with people, but it does not know everything or always give the right answer. Sometimes it may also change 13 (it) answer if people ask the same question 14 a different way. ChatGPT is still a new thing, and Open AI is trying to make it better. They also want to know what people think about it and 15 they use it. They hope that ChatGPT can help people learn new things and have fun. 《英语 基础模块3》(高教版2023修订版) Unit 3 Artificial Intelligence 一课一练(13) Reading and Writing 一、阅读理解:根据短文内容,从A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳答案(共5小题,每小题1分,共5分) Rich countries are racing to dematerialize payments. A.favorable B.negative C.objective D.indifferent 5.The underlined word “abandon” in the fourth paragraph means ______. A.stop using or having something B.make use of something C.depend on something D.a bad man 【答案】1.D 2.C 3.B 4.C 5.A 【导语】这是一篇议论文。 根据第一段中“Rich countries are racing to dematerialize payments. 根据第三段“Countries are removing cash at varying speeds. 根据第四段中“Cash is dying out because of two forces. There is a high cost to run the infrastructurebehind the cash economy — ATMs, vans carrying notes, tellers who accept coins. When payments dematerialize, people and shops are less open to theft. It also creates a credit history, helping consumers borrow. 和第六段“Yet set against these benefits are a couple of worries. Electronic payment systems may risk technical failures, power failure and cyber attacks. In a cashless economy, the poor, the elderly and country folk may be left behind. And a digital system could let governments watch over people’s shopping habits and private multinationals exploit their personal data. 根据上文“There is a high cost to run the infrastructurebehind the cash economy — ATMs, vans carrying notes, tellers who accept coins. 以及“or discourage old-fashioned customers with heavy fees. 故选A。 (共10小题,每小题1分,共10分) ChatGPT is a new kind of computer program that can talk to people. 6.made 7.who/that 8.smart 9.science 10.speaker 11.understand 12.questions 13.its 14.in 15.how 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。 故填made。 7. 故填who/that。 8. 根据“ChatGPT is very...” 根据“history, sports, and movies”可知,空处需要名词作为介词like的宾语,与history, sports, and movies并列。 根据“a listener and a...” 根据“It can...” 根据“it can answer more...” 故填its。 14. 固定短语in a different way表示“以…… 故填in。 15. 故填how。
