money on board. The van was carrying factory
wages, and the police were concerned for the
safety of the driver. After a three-hour search, the
van was found near the river, with the driver in
the back of it. He was sitting on a postbag with his hands tied behind his back and some tape stuck over his mouth. Two policemen climbed into the van and freed the driver gently. Seeing that he seemed quite unhurt, they asked him to tell them what had happened.

I was stopped at the traffic lights just before the motorway, the driver explained. A car cut in front of me and another one came up beside the van. Four men with masks and guns jumped out. They forced their way into the van and made me drive to the river. If you set off an alarm, "they said, "we'll shoot you. "There was another car waiting when we got to the river. The thieves tied me up and threw me into the back of the van. There were two strongboxes and a postbag in the back of the van. They took the strongboxes.'
Did both of the boxes have money in them? 'one of the policemen asked.
Neither of them did! the driver announced with delight. Both boxes were on their way back to the depot with nothing in them! The money was in this bag. I've been sitting on it while I was waiting for you boys to come and let me out!
