第一节 应用文:
Dear Kevin,
Learning that you’re looking for a gift with Chinese characteristics for your family, I strongly recommend
Chinese paper-cuttings.
Paper-cuttings are deeply rooted in Chinese traditional culture. They come in diverse themes, such as lucky
animals and blooming flowers, vividly showcasing the charm of Chinese art. Moreover, they’re portable and can be
easily framed as a decoration for any room. Your family can hang them on the wall or put them on a table. Every
time they see the paper-cuttings, they will be reminded of China’s unique culture.
I’m convinced your family will love this special gift. Hope you have a good trip back!
Li Hua
第二节 读后续写:
Paragraph 1:
Thinking of his odd behavior, I had a bad feeling. Without the slightest hesitation, I quickened my pace and
yelled, “What on earth are you up to?” Hearing my shouts, the elderly man froze, spinning around so abruptly that
his walking stick crashed to the pavement. His weather-beaten face turned red, and he stammered, “I... I spotted
your window...” But anger surged through me, making me too impatient to listen — how could he pretend
innocence after lingering nearby all week? I cut him short, my voice rising: “Save the lies! You’ve been watching
me for a week, waiting to steal from my car, haven’t you?” Seeming extremely hurt, the old man stood there,
unable to speak, just pointing weakly at my car window.
Paragraph 2:
Realizing my car window was left open, I was embarrassed. A wave of shame washed over me. I finally
understood he was just trying to protect my wallet. “I’m so sorry,” I apologized sincerely, my voice trembling. He
smiled gently and said, “It’s very common for you youngsters to be so careless, so I often look out of my window,
hoping to remind you”. I was deeply touched by his kindness. Watching him leave with his walking stick and
groceries, I felt the warmth of his heart beneath his cold appearance. I’m so grateful to have experienced such a
heart-warming moment in winter. From then on, we often greeted each other warmly through his window. Our
relationship blossomed from a misunderstanding into a heartwarming friendship.

听力原文:
Text 1
M: Lucy, would you like to have lunch with me tomorrow?
W: Oh, I’d really love to, but I have an appointment with my dentist at eleven thirty. Thanks for inviting me.
Text 2
W: Peter, how is the weather now? Is it still raining?
M: No, but there are still lots of clouds. The weatherman said the sun wouldn’t come out until next week.
Text 3
M: I’m sorry I was late for class today, DR Simpson.
W: Well, I’ll let it go this time, but you saw it disturbed the rest of the class.
M: Yes, I realized that. I won’t let it happen again.
Text 4
W: Hi Mike. Listen: I’m coming back this afternoon and I’ll take a bus from the railway station, so you don’t need
to come and pick me up.
M: Okay. Take care and see you soon!
Text 5
M: Jenny, there’s an opening for an assistant manager in our company. You should give it a try.
W: Thank you George. But I’ve decided to travel a bit before finding another job.
Text 6
M: By the way, do you know what time it is?
W: Well, it’s a quarter to two.
M: Oh, I’ve got to go.
W: See Linda in the library?
M: No, actually I’m going to meet with professor Smith at ten past two. You may continue our project discussion
with Michael.
W: All right.
Text 7
W: Harry, guess what? I’ve just received an email from Pamela. She and Peter are coming down to see us this
weekend.
M: Oh, that’s good news. we haven’t seen them for ages.
W: Yeah, the last time we met them was at our wedding three years ago.
M: Did Pamela mention how long they’ll stay?
W: About one week.
M: Great! I can’t wait to show them around our new house.
W: Me too. We haven’t had any guests since we moved in here. If the weather is fine, we can have a barbecue in
the garden.
M: Good idea. I’ll go to the market tomorrow to buy all the things we’ll need.
Text 8
W: Hello everyone, welcome to our program. Today we are fortunate to have a special guest with us. Some of you
may have heard of him before. He is an artist. His works have received many prizes and have been shown in over
one hundred exhibitions across the country Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia to name just a few. His name is
Chris Coxi. So Chris, tell us a bit about yourself.
M: Well, I was born in Springfield, Missouri and grew up in Kansas. I didn’t come from a family with wealth or
position, but I did manage to get a master’s degree in fine arts.

W: When did you first start to make art and what was the turning point in your life that made you an artist?
M: I always liked drawing as early as I could remember. So right from then, I knew what I was going to be an artist.
W: What is it that always inspires you to create?
M: Nature is the biggest inspiration. I’m always inspired by things of beauty and harmony.
Text 9
M: You must be pretty excited about your trip to Europe Dorothy? When are you leaving?
W: In just two weeks and I am excited. I’ve been looking forward to this training program for a long time, but there
are still a few things I need to do before I go.
M: Like what?
W: Like renewing my passport and figuring out what to do with my apartment while I’m gone.
M: You are not going to give it up, are you?
W: No way. I’ll never find another apartment like it around here. But I don’t like the idea of paying three months
for an empty apartment, either. So I’m looking for someone to take it while I’m away.
M: Um, let me think. Oh, I know just a person, an old colleague of mine, Jim Thomas. He is coming here to do
some research this summer from June to August.
W: Well, that’s exactly when I’ll be away!
M: Tell you what, I’ll be calling Jim late this week anyway, so I’ll mention it to him.
W: Well, thanks Bill.
Text 10
I hope I’ve given you a clear idea of the schedule for your London weekend and before I finish, let me just
give you some advice which should make your stay more enjoyable. Firstly, please do remember to put on some
comfortable shoes. London is a big place and whatever you do you’ll find yourself doing quite a lot of walking. So
comfortable shoes are really necessary. And secondly, let me ask you to please look after your money. Keep it safe
at all times and then you will not have any unpleasant accident which could ruin your whole weekend. You’ll find a
copy of your weekends schedule in your room. Take a look at it and make sure you’re clear about everything.
Well, that’s all for me for now. Go and leave your luggage in your rooms. I’ll be seeing you here again in
fifteen minutes. Goodbye for now.

Many teenagers spend their free time hanging out with friends or scrolling through social
media, but Tiffani Gay,an 18-year-old student at Orlando Science Schools, spent hers
developing a device that could potentially help millions of people.
"Growing up,I actually lived with my aunt who had a vision problem, and I watched as her
eyesight declined over time. And seeing that made me realize that there was a lack of
technologies out there that were able to help those with visual disabilities adapt to their
circumstances,"said Gay.
Through years of trial and error,Tiffani developed a wearable device that uses LIDAR,a
very common type of sensor,to map an area and then uses vibrations to warn the wearer
when there are obstacles and other things in their path.As they get closer, the vibrations get
stronger.
The technology on Tiffani's visor appeals to more than just the sense of touch. She has the
lights to indicate distance. As you get closer, you'll see the light turn red.As you get moderately
far away, you'll see the light turn blue. And as you get really far away,it should turn green. And
the different lights symbolize how intense the vibration may be.
Tiffani has been working on this project for the past three years."A lot of crazy ideas, but in
that time,I was able to create different models.I've been able to make it a lot more efficient over
these past three years, and I'm also working on raising fund to get my patent."said Gay.
Her invention now costs around $200,which is quite reasonable for medical assistance
devices, but Tiffani wants to make it even more accessible to people. She said,"Decreasing the
price is a significant change I want to make. But,what I really want is making it accessible to the
countries where we have the highest percentage of people who are visually impaired."
24.What inspired Tiffani Gay to invent the device?
A.Her aunt's visual declining.
B.Her parents'encouragement.
C.Her own interest in invention.
D.Her sympathy for elderly people.
25.What is the third paragraph mainly about?
A.The materials of the device.
B.The limitation of the device.
C.The working principle of the device.
D.The inventing process of the device.
26.Which of the following words can best describe Tiffani Gay?
A.Kind and creative.
B.Curious and honest.
C.Brave and generous.
D.Determined and loyal.
27.What can be a suitable title for the text?
A.The Application of LIDAR Sensors
B.A Student's Dream of Starting a Business
C.Tiffani Gay:a Pioneer in Wearable Technology
D.A Teen's Invention for People with Visual Disabilities

According to a new international study,"women consistently exhibit higher sensitivity to
loud clicking noises."Though it is believed that growing older can take a toll on your hearing,
but more than your age,the study has revealed another biological factor that may influence how
your ears respond to sound:your sex.
When the ear is stimulated, researchers found the hairs inside the cochlea (of women
were two decibels more sensitive than the cochlear hairs of men.The findings provide
convincing evidence that the inner ears of women are more sensitive to sounds than the inner
ears of men.
"Age is a well-established factor in the decline of cochlear sensitivity,"write the authors,
led by biologist Patricia Balaresque."However,in our study, the effect of age is overshadowed
by sex and environmental factors."Using a click test called Transient-Evoked Otoacoustic
Emissions (TEOAE),researchers analyzed the cochlear sensitivity of 448 healthy participants
from five countries. In all the analytical models, sex was the main biological factor explaining
inter-individual differences in TEOAE results.Age came second.
When the authors turned to non-biological factors, they found where a person lived had a
greater impact on their cochlear sensitivity than their age. Those who live in forest environments,
for instance, tend to outperform those in urban environments."Our findings highlight the need to
consider both biological and environmental factors when studying hearing,"says Balaresque.
Initial research indicates that as males age, they lose their hearing twice as fast as females.
Scientists still don't understand why that is.Some have proposed that men are exposed to more
damaging noises in their lives, but these new results suggest sex differences in sensitivity cannot
simply be explained by age or by environmental exposure.
This field of research remains relatively unexplored. The study is one of the first detailed
investigations of what influences the sensitivity of the human inner ear.The sex-based
differences the authors identified now need to be explored further.Identifying what drives
hearing loss will be essential when it comes to offering hearing aids to diverse populations.
28.What does the underlined phrase in paragraph I mean?
A.Be of benefit to.
B.Improve the function of.
C.Have a negative effect on.
D.Limit the development of.
29.What can be learned from the result of the TEOAE test?
A.Only biological factors need to be considered.
B.Age is the main reason for individual differences.
C.Environments have no influence on cochlear sensitivity.
D.Sex is the key biological factor in inter-individual differences.
30.According to Balaresque, who is likely to have the best hearing?
A.A teenage girl living in a remote village.
B.A retired male professor living in London.
C.An old lady working in a furniture factory.
D.A mid-aged man living downtown in New York
31.What can be concluded about the research from the last paragraph?
A.It has achieved perfect results.
B.It still needs to be studied further.
C.It fails to find out the influencing factors.
D.It offers hearing aids to diverse populations.

Climate change is increasing the risk of wildfires in many regions of the world. This is
partly due to specific weather conditions-known as fire weather-that facilitate the spread of
wildfires.Researchers from the Helmholtz Centre have found that fire weather seasons are
increasingly overlapping ()between eastern Australia and western North America.
The west coast of North America and the east coast of Australia have been repeatedly hit
hard by wildfires. For example, the January 2025 wildfire disaster in Los Angeles destroyed over
10,000 buildings and claimed 29 lives. The east coast of Australia was hit by one of the
country's most disastrous bush-fires between September 2019 and March 2020:more than 12
million hectares of forest burned.Firefighters from Canada, the US,and Australia have
supported each other during these disasters.
The greatest likelihood of overlap-around 75%-occurs between July and December.
Overall, the number of overlapping fire weather days in eastern Australia and western North
America has been increasing by one day per year for the past 40 years."This is because the fire
season in eastern Australia is starting earlier in spring and overlapping with the fire season on the
west coast of North America,"explains Dr Andreia Ribeiro.
This poses a challenge for cooperation between US,Canadian, and Australian fire services,
which have long supported one another during wildfire emergencies. In the past, the fire seasons
occurred at different times of the year:on the west coast of North America between June and
October and in eastern Australia between October and March. These gaps provided enough time
for teams to assist one another when needed. But these increasingly overlapping fire weather
seasons in the US and Australia are narrowing the window for international cooperation and
making it harder to respond quickly to large-scale wildfires.
The research will contribute to the improvement of international firefighting cooperation
and national firefighting capacities. Both Australia and the US will need to strengthen their
firefighting capacities in order to reduce reliance on international cooperation.
32.What's the function of the figures mentioned in paragraph 2?
A.To prove the significance of forests.
B.To explain the cause of the wildfires.
C.To show the severity of the wildfires.
D.To encourage the protection of forests.
33.What has led to the increasing overlap of fire weather days in the regions mentioned?
A.The warming temperature around the globe.
B.The extended fire season in western America.
C.The high frequency of disasters in North America.
D.The early arrival of the fire season in eastern Australia.
34.What is the consequence of the increasing overlap of fire seasons according to the passage?
A.It will reduce the damage caused by wildfires.
B.It will make international cooperation challenging.
C.It will pave the way for quick response to wildfires
D.It will strengthen the support between US and Australia
35.What is the author's attitude toward the research?
A.Opposed.
B.Favorable.
C.Doubtful.
D.Unclear.

Smile:It Is Good For You
Research reveals that showing you're happy can enhance both physical and mental health.
And here is why.
Smiling is a stress reliever.A University of Kansas study found that participants who were
asked to smile during stressful tasks had lower heart rates during stress recovery. So it seems
even forcing yourself to look happy helps to manage tricky situations.
Smiling may lower blood pressure. The benefits of smile go beyond stress reduction.
36 Another research has shown that blood pressure doesn't rise when people are
exposed to humour.
Smiling boosts immunity.A smile releases certain hormones in the brain, including
serotonin, which is associated with an improvement in immune function.Depression, meanwhile,
can weaken your immune system.37
A smile can reduce your pain.Being amused also prompts the release of endorphins
)in the brain.38 In one study, participants who smiled while being injected reported
40 percent less pain.
_39 It seems smiling really can boost your mood, rather than simply being a
response to feeling happy.A 2022 study of 3,878 participants in 19 countries found people's
happiness rating was higher when they smiled.
Of course, smiling endears you to others and helps you to connect with them.40 Give
yourself cues to remind you to smile-when you see someone laughing or you're making a cup
of tea-or put a note on your phone as a reminder.Think of something pleasurable, such as a
favourite person, place or memory when you smile. You will harvest the rewards of your
continuous efforts.
A.Looking happy encourages positivity.
B.Endorphins are the body's natural painkillers.
C.Those who have the broadest smile live longer.
D.If you practise enough,it'll become second nature.
E.So,it makes sense to smile more if you want to stay well.

G.It not only releases endorphins but also boosts your immune system.

I was teaching in a college in Winnipeg and always drove to school. However, one winter
morning, the principal announced,"The city is taking up our school's parking lot to build a
public library.From tomorrow,the lot won't be available."What a shock!
The next morning,I arrived early to find a suitable parking spot.I finally found a street
with only a few cars parked alongside.I just parked my car and the curtains of the nearest house
were pulled open.An elderly man looked out of the window. When I left the car,he still didn't

At the end of the day,he was again at the window. It made me uneasy, but not enough to
move the car elsewhere;the parking spot was too convenient. In the following days,I felt he
continued watching my arriving and leaving.Although it made me uneasy,I tried not to give the
situation too much thought.
The next afternoon, the man didn't appear at the window. Then, just as I was warming up
the car,he turned the corner,limping (along,with a walking stick and groceries.I smiled
and waved;he just nodded solemnly ()His response discouraged me.I felt he was
definitely not an easy-going person.
The following Monday, when I was in a hurry to the college after parking the car,I
