阅读理解 (2024·浙江9+1高中联盟高二期中)People who walk briskly(迅速地) for two and a half hours a week have a 25 percent lower risk of depression, according to a study.Researchers from Cambridge University found that physical activity in line with government guidelines was also linked to better mental health.Their paper, published in JAMA Psychiatry, found that even those who managed half the recommended amount had an 18 percent lower risk of depression than those who did nothing. Dr.Matt Pearce, first author on the paper, said,“The key message of the paper is that risk of depression is substantially lower for individuals who are physically active, and that most of these lower benefits occur at levels below the current health recommendations.Physical activity should therefore be encouraged to improve mental health even in inactive individuals who struggle to reach current recommendations.” The research combined data from 15 earlier studies, with 191,130 participants, all looking at the relationship between depression and physical activity.Since the study was observational in nature,it cannot prove a causeandeffect relationship. The researchers found “only minor additional benefits” to mental health when people were physically active beyond the recommended levels.Professor James Woodcock,a senior author on the paper, said,“There are two key features of this relationship:firstly, that the biggest difference in the risk of depression was seen when comparing those reporting no activity with those reporting a small amount.”“Even ten minutes a day appears to make a big difference.Secondly, that there appear to be minimal additional benefits of doing high volumes of activity.” The researchers said there were likely to be multiple reasons for their findings, including exercise activating certain networks in the brain and body, releasing feel good hormones called endorphins(内啡肽).Besides, people who are physically active usually sleep better,a key component of protecting your mental health. It might also be that improvements to individuals' body image from being more active, and increases in social interaction during activity played a role.Getting out in green spaces was another likely factor to boost the mood, with many studies linking the use of green spaces and lower depression risks. 1.What did the researchers from Cambridge University discover? A.Physical activity can reduce depression. B.Brisk walking should be recommended. C.Doing exercise can boost overall health. D.Moderation is the key in physical activity. 2.How did the researchers draw the conclusion? A.By repeating 15 earlier experiments. B.By analyzing data from 15 previous studies. C.By proving the causeandeffect relationship. D.By collecting data from 191,130 participants. 3.Which of the following statements would Professor James Woodcock agree with? A.A small amount of physical activity can work wonders. B.Extra physical activity might do harm to people's health. C.It is highly recommended to take high volumes of exercise. D.A 10minute workout every day brings the biggest difference. 4.What can we learn from the last paragraph? A.Endorphins activate certain parts in the brain. B.Green spaces are helpful in lifting one's spirits. C.Stable mental health can improve sleep quality. D.Improved body image increases social interaction. 根据第一段中的“Researchers from Cambridge University found that physical activity ...those who did nothing.” 故选A。 根据第三段“The research combined data from 15 earlier studies ...it cannot prove a causeandeffect relationship.” 根据第四段中的“Professor James Woodcock,a senior author on the paper, said ...benefits of doing high volumes of activity.’” 故选A。 根据最后一段中的“Getting out in green spaces was another likely factor to boost the mood, with many studies linking the use of green spaces and lower depression risks.” Humans have been known to develop strong connections with dangerous animals.Werner Freund has spent the last 40 years of his life in the company of wolves. While why the former soldier became attached to these beautiful wild animals is a little unclear,he has been caring for them since 1972.1. Thus,Werner has the great ability to survive in the period of entering this group of animals and getting along with these coldblooded creatures. 2. They touch him with noses, and play with him. What's more, they are generally very submissive when he is around, just like they would be around a head wolf! This, however, does not happen by chance.3. Whenever it's feeding time,he calls his pack to come for the raw meat by howling. As the hungry animals rush to get their food, they always meet with this scene.Werner sinks his teeth into the raw meat first. What may sound a little cruel is how the position of hierarchy(等级制度) is built in the animal world.4. When he signals, the rest of the pack can join in.Werner's wolves know this rule quite well and never challenge his authority. Wolves, the largest member of the dog family, are mistakenly believed to be dangerous.5. They are beautiful gentle souls, whose reputation has been spoiled by fairy tales like Red Riding Hood! A.But in reality they rarely attack humans. B.They are considered as the smartest beasts. C.Werner works on it with a simple act every day. D.Werner seems to know where wolves come from. E.It is always the strongest male that gets the first meal. F.The wolves treat Werner as if he were one of their own. G.Army experience leaves him a strong body and energetic state. 1.G [解析]设空处为承上启下句,说明Werner以前的从军经历对他与狼一起生存有影响,空前的former soldier呼应G选项中的Army experience,空后的the great ability呼应G选项中的a strong body and energetic state。故选G。 2.F [解析]根据下文“They touch him with noses, and play with him ... a head wolf!”可知,空后的They指代的是F选项中提到的wolves,本段中的just like they would be around a head wolf呼应F选项中的as if he were one of their own。故选F。 3.C [解析]根据上文“This, however, does not happen by chance.” C项“Werner works on it with a simple act every day.” 4.E [解析]根据上文“What may sound a little cruel is how the position of hierarchy is built in the animal world.” 5.A [解析]根据上文“Wolves, the largest member of the dog family, are mistakenly believed to be dangerous.”和下文“They are beautiful gentle souls, whose reputation has been spoiled by fairy tales like Red Riding Hood!” 故选A。 Ⅲ. Say No to Food Waste Dear students, It is a great honor for me to speak here on such a significant occasion. Now I had to wait. How easy it should be to simply wait but this felt like a neverending suffering.I stared at my white shoes as I stretched my feet, trying to distract myself from the way I felt. This dressing room was not small, but there were lots of girls in here.Mum and Dad were sitting in the audience but I was missing them so much.I wished they had been here with me.They were only on the other side of the stage, but that felt like a world away. The speaker asked for the black swans(天鹅) to get ready and as a sudden rush of girls danced into a line and headed off towards the stage,I knew that I would be called next.My hands felt wet and sticky.I did not want to go on stage.I did not want the audience staring at me as I performed. I tried to sit down but it was difficult when you were wearing a tutu(芭蕾舞裙).I wanted to rest my forehead on the mirror, but I knew that I would ruin my makeup and that wouldn't do.The speaker was asking again,“Calling for white swans, will all white swans make their way to the stage?” I shook my arms, and joined the queue of other white swans.I felt really faint now and I wanted to be sick.I looked around in desperation, waiting to catch the eye of someone, anyone, who could get me out and save me. Paragraph 1: The music started and a girl beside me caught my hand with a comforting smile. Paragraph 2: We took off our white clothes,a little tired but excited. [参考范文] Paragraph 1: The music started and a girl beside me caught my hand with a comforting smile. “You've gotta' dance like there's nobody watching,”she whispered to me.Something magical happened. My legs kicked out,my arms moved gracefully and my body formed different positions as the music flowed ...and I jumped,I stretched,I leaped and I forgot that I was on the stage.Eventually the music reached its climax and then died away. With graceful ballet runs,we left the stage and returned to the dressing room. How was it over so quickly? Paragraph 2: We took off our white clothes,a little tired but excited. The girl grinned and gave me a thumbsup sign.I felt immense relief and such a huge sense of achievement.I could not wait to see Mum and Dad and to know what they thought, although I knew that they would be proud of me.Saying goodbye to her,I walked out of the dressing room. Now I knew what the next performance would be like.Maybe next year I would be a girl too keen to get on the stage and comfort other timid girls.
