[句式精析] (教材P4)He was ready to serve dinner to his friends when he realized that he had forgotten to turn on the oven and the meat was not cooked yet. 他正要给他的朋友们端上晚餐,突然意识到他忘了打开烤箱,肉还没烹饪好。 [句式分析] 本句中when表示“突然”,that he had forgot turn...yet是that引导的宾语从句,作realized的宾语。 [归纳拓展] (1)“Sb.was ready to do...when...”句型。此句型表示“某人正要做某事,突然……”,相当于“Sb.was about to do...when...”或“Sb.was going to do...when...”或“Sb.was to do...when...”或“Sb.was on the point of doing...when....”句型。 (2)when作“突然”讲时还常用于以下句型: ◆[佳句感知] I was ready to cross the street when I saw a car coming quickly. 我正要过马路,突然看到一辆小汽车快速过来了。 ◆[即学即练] [语法填空] ①I  was_driving  (drive)down to London when I suddenly found that I was on the wrong road. ②Mrs.Woo said that her husband had just left for work when she  felt  (feel)that her house was shaking. ③Jack was working in the lab  when  the power cut occurred. [完成句子] ④我正要出门时一个远亲突然来看我了。 I_was_about_to_go_out_when或I_was_ready_to_go_out_when_或I_was_to_go_out_when或I_was_on_the_point_of_going_out_when  a distant relative came to visit me. 表语从句 自我探究 总结归纳 1.One theory is that bad air caused the disease. that引导的表语从句,that在从句中没有功能,也没有意义。 2.What John Snow showed to the world was how cholera could be overcome. how引导的表语从句;how在从句中作方式状语,译为“怎样,如何”。 3.What Snow was determined to find out was why the 1854 outbreak of cholera in London could have caused over 500 deaths within ten days. why引导的表语从句;why在从句中作原因状语,译为“为什么”。 [基本概念] 在句中充当表语的从句称为表语从句。这种从句往往是进一步对主句的主语进行解释说明。 引导表语从句的连接词有连接代词(what,who,whom,whose,which),连接副词(when,where,how,why等)以及that,whether,as if/as though,because等。 [思维导图] [语法精析] 一、that引导表语从句 that引导表语从句时仅起连接作用,无任何意义,在从句中不作任何成分,通常不可省略。 The general rule is that mild zones have relatively few languages,often spoken by many people,while hot,wet zones have lots,often spoken by small numbers.一般的规则是,(气候)温和的地区语言种类相对较少,通常说这些语言的人很多,而炎热、潮湿的地区语言种类很多,通常说这些语言的人很少。 ►[学以致用] [语法填空]/[完成句子] ①Another unique human characteristic is  that  we walk upright. ②The most pleasant thing of the rainy season is  that  one can be entirely free from dust. ③The news he has told me is  that_our_team_has_just_won_the_first_prize  (我们队刚刚获得了一等奖). 二、whether引导表语从句 whether引导表语从句时起连接作用,意为“是否”,但在从句中不作任何成分。注意:if不能引导表语从句。 ►[学以致用] [语法填空]/[完成句子] ①The question,however,is  whether  this is what the developing countries need the most. ②What I want to know is  whether_he_can_arrive_on_time  . 他是否能准时到达。 三、连接代词引导表语从句 连接代词what,who,whom,whose,which等引导表语从句时,除了在句中起连接作用外,在从句中还可充当主语、表语、宾语等成分。 (1)“Every time you eat a sweet,drink green tea.”This is what my mother used to tell me. “每次吃甜食时要喝绿茶。”这是我妈妈过去常常告诉我的。 (2)The problem is who is really fit for the hard job. 问题是谁才真正适合做这份艰苦的工作。 ►[学以致用] [语法填空]/[完成句子] ①This is  what  my father has taught me—to always face difficulties and hope for the best. ②A ship in harbor is safe,but that's not  what  ships are built for. ③The problem we have met now is  whose_painting_is_the_best  (谁的画最好). 四、连接副词引导表语从句 连接副词where,when,why,how引导表语从句时,除在句中起连接作用外,在从句中还分别充当地点、时间、原因、方式状语。 (1)That's where I can't agree with you. 那是我不同意你的地方。 (2)The last time we had great fun was when we were visiting the Water Park. 我们上一次玩得很开心是我们参观水上公园的时候。 (3)Sara was caught in a traffic jam this morning.This is why she was late for class. 萨拉今天早上遇到了堵车,那就是她上课迟到的原因。 ►[学以致用] [语法填空] ①Without his support,we wouldn't be  what  we are now. ②By boat is the only way to get here,which is  how  we arrived. ③One idea is  that  sleep helps us strengthen new memories.That's  why  students do better in tests if they get a chance to sleep after learning. ④Grandma pointed to the hospital and said,“That's  where  I was born.” 五、as if/as though/because等引导表语从句 as if/as though 引导的表语从句常置于系动词look,seem,sound,be,become等后面。because引导的表语从句常见于“This/That/It is/was because...”句型中。 ①It looks as if it is going to snow. 天看起来要下雪了。 ②It seems as though he doesn't know the answer. 看起来他好像不知道答案。 ③He was sent to the hospital.That's because he was ill. 他被送到医院,那是因为他病了。 ►[学以致用] [语法填空]/[完成句子] ①From space,the earth looks blue.This is  because  about seventy­one percent of its surface is covered by water. ②It seems  as_if_the_teacher_is_not_satisfied  (好像老师并不满意). 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
