第六课时 Section B (3a—Self Check) 一、阅读理解 Zebras come from Africa. They can be seen in almost all the zoos around the world. Many people like them because of their black and white stripes(条纹). For a long time, scientists have been trying to find out why zebras have stripes and the use of these black and white stripes. But no one can give an exact answer. The early scientists thought these black and white stripes could help them avoid being caught and eaten by tigers, lions and other animals. Because as they run, it's difficult for other animals to estimate(估计) their speed and direction. But is it true? Scientists from England have been taking a much closer look. They have been testing the idea using a game called Dazzle Bug. That's where you have to catch a bug, but it keeps changing its pattern(图案) in an effort to stop you doing so. What the scientists have found is that even when they are moving, the bugs still lose their clear patterns. So scientists believe that how zebras protect themselves while moving may depend on a completely different mechanism(机制). No one knows how to explain the stripes on a zebra.
