五、阅读理解
Bryan broke through the surface of the pool. Who had dunked(将……按入水中浸一下) him?
Seconds before, he'd been rushing toward the goal, trying to receive a pass. Now the ball was gone. Worse yet, Jim was throwing the ball toward the net.
Goal!

Bryan sighed. His water polo team, the Minnows, played against the Turtles. The score was 2—4, and time was running out.
“Who put me underwater?” Bryan asked.
“Joey did,” his teammate Devin said.
Twins Jim and Joey were the best water polo players, and Bryan was friends with them. But dunking a player was against the rules. Clearly the referee didn't see it.
B 能力提升
“Forget it,” Devin comforted him. “Let's score!”
Bryan was fired up. He sent a quick shot into the goal.
“Come on!” Bryan said to his teammates. “Let's tie(打成平局) this.”
He knew the Minnows' hopes for a play-off(季后赛) rested on winning this game. That seemed almost impossible now. One more goal would tie the score, leaving the Minnows in fifth place. Only a win would put them in fourth.
B 能力提升
Again, Bryan reached for the ball. He raised his arms as if to shoot, then passed to Devin. Joey rushed in that direction, but Devin's shot flew into the net. Tie score!
“Smart pass!” Devin said.
“Teamwork!” For now, Bryan's only aim was to score another goal.
One minute left. But the Turtles kept control. They threw the ball back and forth, keeping it away from the Minnows. A tie would be enough to get them into the play-offs.
B 能力提升
“Attack!” Devin called. All of Minnows crowded toward whoever had the ball.
Suddenly, Jim slipped free with the ball and Joey was calling for it.
Bryan knew a pass would be coming. Joey was in a great position to score, and Bryan was too far behind to stop the shot. He took two quick strokes(划水动作) and raised his hands toward Joey’s shoulders as Jim passed his brother the ball. It would be the only way to stop him.
B 能力提升
“Time to pay him back,” Bryan thought. He reached, but then pulled back his hands.
Joey's shot flew into the net. Game over. And the season was over, too, for the Minnows.
“Great game.” Joey swam over to Bryan. “Sorry about that dunk. I wanted to win badly so ...”
Bryan knew the feeling. “It happens,” he said. “Winning's important,” he thought. “But so are the rules.”
B 能力提升
Joey reached out his hand and Bryan shook it. “Good luck in the play-offs, Joey,” Bryan said. Losing wasn't so bad. As he talked toward the locker room, Bryan felt like a winner.
B 能力提升
( )1.Why did Bryan fail to receive a pass at first?
A.Because the time for the game ran out.
