第一节(略)
第二节
“Now, let’s fix this mess together,” Aria encouraged her little brother. She brushed away her tears and gave her brother a hug. “It’s okay. We can make something even better — together!” She handed him some crayons and paper, and they sat side by side, working on a new masterpiece. Aria carefully rearranged the feathers, turning her brother’s scribbles into colorful patterns, while he proudly added his own little drawings. Their laughter filled the room as they mixed paints, and created a joyful, messy artwork. Aria realized that her brother’s “mistake” had actually made the gift more special.
After finishing the gift, the two kids brought it to their mother. With excited smiles, they presented the gift, wrapped in handmade paper. “Happy Birthday, Mom!” they cheered. Their mother’s eyes widened as she unwrapped it — bright colors, feathers, and even tiny fingerprints. “Did you make this together?” she asked. They nodded eagerly. “It’s perfect,” she whispered, pulling them close. Aria looked at her brother, full of pride. This gift wasn’t just a painting; it was a memory they had created — and fixed — together.
听力录音稿:
Text 1
M: John always has his nose in a book.
W: Yes, he loves reading, but he should get out and play sports or see a film.
Text 2
M: I’d like to make an appointment to see Dr. Owen on Tuesday morning.
W: But he’s not free then. What about Wednesday afternoon or Friday morning?
M: I can’t come any afternoon. I suppose I’ll have to make the morning appointment then.
Text 3
M: To get this presentation ready, we’ll have to send these documents to our usual print shop.
W: But the shop went out of business last month. We’ll have to find one somewhere else.
Text 4
M: We should be on the road at 6 o’clock in the morning. It’s a four-hour trip to the beach.
W: It’s true. This way, we’ll have more time to enjoy our holiday.
Text 5
W: This year the Trust is holding The Canterbury Tales Writing Competition for school students around the country.
M: Really? Tell me more about it.
Text 6
W: Hello, Mr. Wheeler. This is Kate Kennedy.
M: Good morning, Ms. Kennedy. Do you have any good news for me?
W: Yes. I found a really nice house that you and your family will love.
M: Tell me about it, please.
W: It’s got four bedrooms and two bathrooms, so there’s plenty of room for everyone. It’s close to a great primary school, and it has a large yard.
M: That sounds good. Can you show it to us around 4 p.m.?
W: I’m not free then — I have a meeting with my boss. However, I’m free at 6 p.m. Would that work for you?
M: Let me ask my wife first, and then I’ll call you right back.
Text 7
W: Hi, Jack. What are you doing?
M: I’m reading an interesting novel. What’s up?
W: Well, I’m watching TV to pass time, but it’s so boring. Do you want to go to the supermarket with me?
M: Is there a sale?
W: Yeah. Most supermarkets have sales around this time of year.
M: That sounds great. When and where should we meet?
W: I will mail a package to my cousin first and meet you in front of the park in 20 minutes.
M: So, we’re meeting there at 2:30.
W: Right. See you then.
Text 8
W: Mark, why didn’t you go to Susan’s party last night?
M: I wasn’t feeling well, so I just stayed at home and listened to some news.
W: Anything impressive?
M: Yes. I heard a concerning news report about Lake Titicaca.
W: I know this lake. It’s South America’s largest freshwater body in the Andes. Is the lake polluted?
M: No. The news says it’s experiencing alarming water level declines. A long drought has left its lake beds exposed. Global warming is a major factor.
W: That’s really bad. I’m sure it can affect many people’s lives there. I really hope more attention will be given to climate change.
M: Me, too. That’s why I often talk about this with my students in class. I hope they’ll work hard to help fight global warming in the future.
Text 9
W: Welcome to today’s Explore Nature program. Today, we have Simon Almond in the studio. He’s a university student who has just won an award for his set of photos of seabirds. Welcome, Simon. Now can you tell us about the award?
M: Well, I submitted my photos for the competition hosted by the local newspaper. I wasn’t expecting to win. So, when they told me the result, I was really excited. And the award-winning photos will be on display at a local museum next week.
W: We are looking forward to the exhibition. Do you have any advice on improving photography skills?
M: First of all, good composition is key. Normally, your subject is placed at one of the lines that divide the whole picture into three equal parts. Secondly, lighting is crucial for a great shot. Among the whole day, based on my experience, the best lighting is in the late afternoon. If you want to make further progress, I recommend keeping detailed notes of timing, position, weather, etc.
W: Wow, those are really useful advice. Thanks, Simon.
Text 10
Hello, everyone. I’m from Worldwide Students Project. It is a service organization which was set up to improve international understanding. Now we’ve got volunteers from 30 countries working around the world. If you are interested in joining us, I’d like to tell you about some of the projects. There are three kinds of projects to choose from: short-term projects lasting two or three weeks, medium-term projects lasting between one and six months and long-term projects which can be up to a year.
The first project I’d like to talk about is in Nigeria. It is a village improvement project. You’d be working with local people, so you need a good knowledge of English for that. It is for three weeks. The next one is a children’s holiday center in Singapore. The work includes painting rooms, watering flowers and things like that. It is a medium-term one lasting six weeks. The final project is for the medical students here. There is a placement in a center for disabled students in Brazil. You’ll work six months there, so you can get plenty of experience and do something for the disabled children.
If you are interested, read the brochure for further information.

When handball was introduced to Sri Lankan schools in 2010,I wanted to bring it to my school,St
Anthony's,in the remote village of Wasalakotte. This became a challenging task as the sports teacher was
unwilling to initiate anything other than traditional sports, such as cricket and rugby.
However,.I decided to start this game..Handball is a fascinating(有吸引力的)game which combines
speed, technical precision, skill and teamwork. The boys were immediately interested and 40 students aged
between 13 and 19 signed up to play. And I had the support of their parents.
Heshan Pradeep,a St Anthony's graduate who was a member of the Air Force handball team,
volunteered to coach the team.Although handball is an indoor game,we trained outdoors as our school had
limited facilities."It will ruin their studies!"complained some of the teachers. But I managed to get the
game going.
After three months of hard training,we were able to send an under-19s boys'team to compete with 50
other schools at the first three-day,all-island school handball tournament held in Colombo-the country's
most populous city. Our boys played remarkably well and reached the final.
And that was when the real game started.Students, parents, teachers and old boys from Colombo
schools joined forces against us,saying they wouldn't allow the cup to be taken out of Colombo. Some
Colombo students waved leaves and danced and sang their songs to intimidate our boys.Even the referees
(favored the Colombo schools.Defeated, the boys fell to the ground, sad and disappointed.
A few weeks after the defeat,I turned to Vonho,Heshan's coach.Vonho agreed to coach the team in
his free time. The following year, the boys claimed the victory they deserved.
24.Why was it hard to start handball in St.Anthony's?

I was 17 when Julio Cortazar's wildly experimental 1963 masterpiece,Hopscotch, fell into my hands,
and that book almost drove me crazy.Cortazar cast conventional structure aside, willing the reader to jump
between 155 short chapters.Only years later did I understand Cortazar. It was my first experience of the
exciting unpredictability that lay ahead in my journey with books.
Today's book talk often presents reading somewhere between the wholesomeness of vegetables and
the pleasures of a patisserie(法式糕点):books are beneficial,,good for you,or they're a treat,.a pleasure.
But that leaves out the trickier, more delicate pleasures of tackling difficult books, the big challenges on our
bookshelves that question your deepest values or make you uncomfortable in the right way.
In a set of studies, two professors,Gay Ivey from the University of North Carolina and Peter Johnston
from the University of Albany, found that reading difficult books about characters with complicated lives
helped teenagers become more understanding, less judgmental, more likely to seek multiple viewpoints,
morally stronger,and happier.
One of my favorite writers,Sarah Chihaya,explores books that are"Life Ruiners"-books that"you
can't ever recover from, that you never stop thinking about",books that leave you fundamentally changed.
Reading books that refuse to be easily digested,"the ones that bring up anxieties and fears you never knew
you had",helped Chihaya to feel,as she writes,not"better",but"simply different".As with many life-long
readers, the books that truly shaped me were not always pleasurable-but they were irresistible.
You're not always ready for every challenging read,of course.Timing matters. The American novelist
Garth Greenwell said in a 2024 interview that at 20,he tried Frank Bidart's poems and turned away;but
just a few years later,"reading his poems would be one of the key literary experiences of my life".If a book
doesn't work for you, don't force yourself to finish it;but leave the door open to the idea that, like certain
friendships,it might kindle (years later.
28.What does the author think of today's book talk?
A.It breaks tradition.
B.It is rather structured.
C.It truly lacks depth.
D.It is alternative in style
29.What did Ivey and Johnston's studies show?
A.Reasons for readers'preference.
B.Qualities to be observant readers.
C.Ways to appreciate complex stories.
D.Impacts of reading difficult books.
30.What effect did reading"Life Ruiners"have on Chihaya?
A.Destructive.
B.Productive.
C.Transformative.
D.Restrictive.
31.What does Greenwell's experience suggest about reading great literature?
A.It requires a literary mindset.
B.It needs patience and readiness.
C.It can be started with poetry.
D.It brings new ideas and creativity.

The researchers, from the University of Cambridge, say their solar-powered reactor could be used to
make fuel to power cars and planes. It could also be used to generate fuel in remote or off-grid
的)locations..
Unlike conventional technologies, the reactor developed by the Cambridge researchers does not
require fossil-fuel-based power,or the transport and storage of carbon dioxide(CO2),but instead converts
()atmospheric CO2 into something useful using sunlight. The results are reported in the journal Nature
Energy.
Carbon capture and storage(CCS)has been proposed as a possible solution to the climate crisis.
However,it is energy intensive and there are concerns about the long-term safety of storing pressurised
CO2 deep underground."What if,instead of pumping carbon dioxide underground,we made something
useful from it?"said first author Dr.Sayalee Katar from Cambridge's Yusuf Hamied Department of
Chemistry."Carbon dioxide is a harmful greenhouse gas,but it can also be turned into useful chemicals."
The focus of the research group is the development of devices that convert waste, water and air into
practical fuels and chemicals. These devices take their inspiration from photosynthesis )the
process by which plants convert sunlight into food. The devices don't use any outside power:no cables,no
batteries-all they need is the power of the sun.
The team's latest system takes carbon dioxide directly from the air and converts it into syngas,a key
element in the production of many chemicals. At night, specialized devices take in carbon dioxide. When
the sun comes out,the sunlight heats up the collected gas, starting a chemical reaction that converts the gas
into solar syngas.A mirror on the reactor concentrates the sunlight, making the process more efficient.
The researchers say the particularly promising opportunity is that the syngas can be converted into
many of the products we rely on every day, without contributing to climate change. They are building a
larger-sized version of the reactor and hope to begin tests in the spring.
32.What can be learned about the reactor from the first two paragraphs?
A.It consumes solar energy.
B.It operates well in remote locations.
C.It requires fewer technologies.
D.It stores solar energy for transportation.
33.Why does the author mention Katar's words?
A.To introduce their alternative thinking.
B.To show the origin of their inspiration.
C.To recognize the value of their device.
D.To explain the reasons for their success.
34.What does paragraph 5 mainly talk about?
A.The efficiency of different devices.
B.Functional processes of the system.
C.The cooperation of the team members.
D.Working surroundings of the system.
35.What are the researchers planning to do?
A.Produce green energy.
B.Launch a trial of the reactor.
C.Replace existing fuels.
D.Create a large-sized mirror.
