Ⅰ.阅读理解
(2025·洛阳模拟)It was a cold May morning when I received an email from an old friend inviting me to join a 10-day all-girls surf trip. I knew I had to say yes. The trip seemed simple enough. 10 women aged 30 to 45, all complete strangers, were to meet on the coast of Portugal to try something new: surfing in the Atlantic Ocean. I have always loved traveling, so I eagerly sent an email to my boss asking for time off to make the trip.
If there's one thing I've learned over my past 33 years, it's that adults typically spend their days mastering the things they've done before. It seems like we pride ourselves on becoming experts in whatever field we've fallen into, knowing more about less. Now, in theory, this is a great strategy, as it allows you to become really good at one particular thing, but it also kind of ends up leaving some skills lacking.
I met my new surfing companions on the grass of the hotel lawn in a small surf town called Ericeira. Despite our different personalities and backgrounds, we were all united in a strong desire to challenge ourselves, learn, tackle and grow.
The shores at Ericeira, where the beginners learn to surf, are shallow and covered with slippery rocks. They make for softer waves but are difficult to ride.
Guided by our amazing coaches, together, we faced the waves. Sometimes, it poured with rain, and the waves crashed around us, but we were still out there. And with every slip and fall, words of encouragement filled the air. Honestly, I probably spent most of my days frozen to the bone, but that didn't matter because a new level of genuine joy and personal achievement had been unlocked.
Learning a new skill taught me the humility (谦虚) that can come from doing badly at something new, and the pride that develops when you finally manage to grasp something you've been working on. While surfing might not be my lifelong passion, trying it out inspired me to take more risks in life. You never know what you're capable of if you don't go out there and try.

The UK's greatest football grounds
The British football grounds featured in this guide are some of the best in the whole world. Some stadiums have celebrated more success than others, but each ground has its own rich heritage and unique atmosphere.
Craven Cottage, London
Craven Cottage was designed by the Glaswegian architect Archibald Leitch, who built 20 major football stadiums in the UK, including Chelsea's Stamford Bridge. The“cottage”itself, lying on one corner of the pitch (球场), was added by Leitch because he'd forgotten to have changing rooms in the original design.
Capacity: 25,700.
Tickets: Adult (18+) 19.99 Children under 18 9.99
Family bonus: 2 adults+1 child 39.97
Visiting time: Mon.- Sat., 8:30 - 20:30
Anfield, Liverpool
Anfield saw the fulfillment of many dreams. Located in the solidly working-class area of north Liverpool, it's another ground built by Archibald Leitch.
It was torn down in 1994 with the coming of all-seated stadiums, but plans are now underway for a 260m upgrade including a hotel and a “food hub”.
Capacity: 45,500.
Tickets: Adult (18+) 15.99 Children under 18 8.99
Visiting time: Mon.- Fri., 9:00 - 20:00

In 2008, to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Manchester United's first European Cup win, a statue of George Best, Denis Law and Bobby Charlton was displayed.

(2025·茂名模拟)Tai chi is known to increase flexibility and improve balance. Now, new research suggests it's better than more vigorous aerobic (有氧的) exercise for lowering blood pressure in people with prehypertension (高血压前期).
In the new study, researchers in China randomly assigned 342 adults with prehypertension to one of two groups. The average age of participants was 49. Roughly half the people participated in guided aerobic exercise, including jogging, climbing stairs, and cycling. The other half was trained to practice tai chi. Both groups got hour-long sessions four times a week.
After 12 months, those in the tai chi group saw bigger drops in their blood pressure than those in the aerobic exercise group. What's more, nearly 22% of the people who practiced tai chi saw their blood pressure fall to within normal range, compared with nearly 16% of people in the aerobic exercise group. And fewer patients in the tai chi group went on to develop hypertension than in the aerobic exercise group.
So how does tai chi help lower blood pressure?“The practice tends to stimulate more of a response from the Parasympathetic Nervous System (副交感神经系统) or PNS for short,” says Ruth Taylor-Piliae, a professor at the University of Arizona's College of Nursing. The PNS is the network of nerves that relaxes your body after periods of stress or danger.
“The PNS helps us relax everything, and I think it is the response that is lowering blood pressure,” says Ruth Taylor-Piliae. “I think it's also the meditative quality of tai chi.”
The practice is appealing as a form of exercise because it requires little space or equipment.“I think the beauty of tai chi is that you don't have to own a special gym membership; you don't have to buy special clothing,”Ruth Taylor-Piliae says.“Once you learn tai chi, you can do it anytime and anywhere. And it does provide that calming, relaxing effect.”

B.The benefits of aerobic exercise on health.
C.The effect of tai chi on lowering blood pressure.
D.The role of the Parasympathetic Nervous System in exercise.

5.What can we infer about the study from paragraphs 2 and 3?
A.Tai chi group gained more benefits.
B.Participants were adults chosen at random.
C.Age and gender were taken into consideration.
D.Aerobic exercise group hardly developed hypertension.
解析:选A 推理判断题。根据第三段中“And fewer patients in the tai chi group went on to develop hypertension than in the aerobic exercise group.”可以推断出,太极组获得了更多的益处。
6.According to Ruth Taylor-Piliae, which is the key factor in tai chi's impact on blood pressure?
A.Responses from the PNS.
B.Increased intensity of exercise.
C.Activation of the nervous system.
D.Requirements of special equipment for practice.
解析:选A 细节理解题。根据倒数第二段中“The PNS helps us relax everything, and I think it is the response that is lowering blood pressure”可知,根据Ruth Taylor-Piliae的说法,太极对血压影响的关键因素是来自副交感神经系统的反应。
7.What does Ruth Taylor-Piliae think of tai chi?
A.Costly. B.Convenient.
C.Instructive. D.Demanding.
解析:选B 推理判断题。根据最后一段中Ruth Taylor-Piliae的评价可推知,她认为练习太极非常方便。

Dear Jim,
How is everything going? I am writing to eagerly share my recent experience participating in a school sports event — the 400m race.
It was a sunny afternoon, and students gathered at the school's sports field for an exciting running race. I stood at the starting line, my heart racing with anticipation. The referee's whistle sounded loud, signaling the start of the race. The competition was tough, but I remained focused. As I crossed the finish line, a mix of exhaustion and a sense of accomplishment washed over me and my teammates rushed to congratulate me.
This race will surely be a wonderful memory of my high school life. I not only boosted my confidence but also understood the meaning of perseverance.
What about you? Looking forward to hearing your story.
Yours,
Li Hua
Ⅲ.读后续写
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
(2025·新余模拟)Everything went according to plan, until it didn't. The night before my first marathon, I ate the classic runner's dinner. That morning, I woke up before my alarm, tiptoed downstairs to toast three waffles and slathered (涂抹) them in peanut butter. I had slept eight hours, my unreliable left knee wasn't bothering me, and my stomach was full. I was ready.
Then my girlfriend, Louisa, knocked on the door asking, “Have you checked your email?”The Twin Cities Marathon in Minneapolis and St. Paul had been canceled. Race officials sent an email at 5:16 a.m. announcing the race had been called off due to “black flag conditions” — record-breaking heat.
While I understood why the race organizers didn't want to put runners at risk, I also knew that I had trained in the baking and humid Washington, D.C. all summer. If I started early and finished around noon, I'd miss the worst heat of the day. Louisa offered to bike alongside me, with water, snacks and salt pills in tow.
I quickly called my friends to figure out what to do. About 40 minutes later, we were heading for starting line in downtown Minneapolis, drinking a gallon of water, ready to run our own marathon. There is a psychological difference between running 42.2 kilometers and running an organized marathon. The distance becomes a shared challenge when you're running with thousands of others. That gives a runner confidence that they can finish the race as well.
“When you're in that marathon setting, having people on the sidelines, having people running alongside you, maybe running in a new location, there are so many other external things to help keep you focused,” my friend Samson said. “The sights and sounds give you a little of a break from the internal reflection that can happen when you start to struggle.” Indeed, it is a mental race.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式作答。
On our way to the starting line, we were wondering if anybody else would show up despite the cancellation.
____________________________________________________________________________
____________________________________________________________________________
The last 8 kilometers of the Twin Cities Marathon route are largely uphill.

参考范文:
On our way to the starting line, we were wondering if anybody else would show up despite the cancellation. To our surprise, there were still spectators along the course, and neighbors gathered outside of their houses handing out bottles of water as they watched runners go by. With hot air constantly hitting us, bystanders passed me one ice-cold sponge and a wet rag to cool my body down. Somewhere around half of the route, I was also offered a handful of orange slices and a banana from a stranger on the side of the road but I politely declined. Their inspiration and kindness were what kept me running all the way forward.
The last 8 kilometers of the Twin Cities Marathon route are largely uphill. By that point in the race, my thighs felt like jells and my leg muscles were rubber bands. The finish line sat at the bottom of the hill. No finish banner this time, I could still see dozens of supporters cheering runners home. I kept glancing at my watch, counting down the meters until it ticked to “42.2” kilometers. I called out “I'm done” to Louisa, who had been delivering much-needed encouragement along the way. I let out a dry sob and gave hugs to people around. Despite the race getting canceled, it felt just like a real victory.
