It was a hot morning in June in the Alps. Heidi walked behind her aunt named Dete. They were walking through the village and up the mountain.
Heidi was very hot because she was wearing all her clothes. She had to carry them to her new home. She was only six years old.
As Heidi and her aunt hurried out of the village, a villager stopped to talk. “Dete, is this the orphan(孤儿) your sister left when she died? Where are you taking her?”

You've met passages or books that you just can't get into or you don't understand. There are lots of reasons: sometimes the book is boring or difficult;sometimes you find the writer is bad at explaining things. If it happens, try taking the following steps.
Find your perfect reading place where you can be comfortable to read. Find out what conditions you need to be able to read most effectively. It may be easier for you to read at a desk in a quiet library, or in one of those relaxing chairs at coffee shops.
______ Look up the words you don't understand. Also, write down literary(文学的) references that you don't know. Look them up. Remember to avoid using your mobile phone for this task in order that it won't take your attention away from the book.
If you own the book you are reading, you can underline the important parts. If you don't own the book, take notes in your notebook carefully. Using page markers can also help you find those parts that are important to understand the book more easily.
▲
