It has three levels of volunteers; Level Ⅰ volunteers help with meal preparation; Level Ⅱ volunteers help the staff clean the shelter; Level Ⅲ volunteers are trained to interact directly with the chimpanzees.
Hope For Horses
Hope For Horses has an all-volunteer team that has helped hundreds of severely abused horses since 2001. It's also rescued a variety of other animals over the years, including donkeys, chickens, geese and a goat. Enter Nick Spigler's room and you'll find the delicate nest of a tree swallow and rows of books about birds. Clearly, this 16yearold boy has his head in the clouds and his feet off the ground. Several times a week, Ellie Andreen, 15, visits a park near her home to check on her little family. The boxes she placed there last winter have produced several babies of bluebirds, which Ellie fusses__over like a mother hen.
These young birdwatchers are not the only youngsters who enjoy birding in the United States' county of Harford, Maryland. Local schools there offer programs in ornithology (鸟类学), even if some kids can't yet spell the word.
Both Nick and Ellie took up birding early on. They call themselves the Early Birds, Feathered Friends or Bird Buddies. Once a month, they join groups of 20 to 30 students to walk through nearby fields before class at 7:30 am, hoping to spot a woodpecker or oriole (黄鹂) with binoculars.
“Being part of the bird club since second grade made it seem more common than just some strange hobby,” Nick said. “I had to get up at 6:30 am for the walks. That was for the birds, so I didn't mind.”
Since then, he has attended bird camps, studied bird habits and migratory patterns, and personally seen 190 of the more than 400 species in Maryland.
Raising youth awareness is a must, longtime birders say. Mary Murray, 65, a leading member of the Harford Bird Club, said, “These children are going to inherit Earth, and we need to teach them early how to take care of it. Birds are an indicator species, like canaries (金丝雀) in a coal mine, and if kids pay attention to what birds are doing, they will understand the health of their environment.”

26.What does Mary Murray think birding means for children?
A.It will allow them to know more about different species.
B.It will improve their understanding of their environment.
C.It will teach them how to appreciate nonbird species.
D.It will raise their awareness of teamwork.
根据最后一段中的“Mary Murray, 65, a leading member ... the health of their environment.’(65岁的Mary Murray (玛丽·默里)是哈德福鸟类俱乐部的主要成员,她说:‘这些孩子将要继承地球,我们需要尽早教会他们如何照顾地球。鸟类是一种指示物种,就像煤矿里的金丝雀一样,如果孩子们注意到鸟类的行为,他们就会了解环境的健康状况。’)”可推知,Mary Murray认为观鸟可以提高孩子们对环境的了解。故选B。
27.What is the best title for the passage?

According to the IUCN Red List 32,000 species are threatened with extinction. Although we might be working hard to help some species come back from the brink (边缘), we might also be eating some threatened species without even realising it.
Searching industrial fishing records, researchers identified almost 100 endangered species being sold as seafood, and this is done legally. When sold, these fish are not required to be labelled according to species, so consumers have no way of knowing what they're eating, let alone whether they're endangered or not.
The team stresses that this is only the tip of the iceberg, as they only looked at a specific section of records and excluded groups of fish such as sharks, which are commonly eaten in Australia, Europe, and some Asian countries.
To solve the mess we're creating in the ocean, the researchers have come up with some ways, one of which is to expand our idea of seafood to include jellyfish (水母). That might sound a little unusual, but it's not the first time scientists have suggested it as a food source. And with jellyfish being one of a minority of wild animals that scientists think might be actually increasing in numbers around the world, it makes a lot of sense. With jellyfish as a food source, other endangered species may be kept in the sea.
Of course, there are other ways to help keep endangered species off the menu. Carissa Klein, University of Queensland (UQ) conservation scientist, thinks that the labelling of seafood needs to be improved, so that people are more aware of what they are eating. Besides, it can be also important if the cooperation between fisheries and conservation policies can be better promoted. “We would never consider eating mountain gorillas or elephants, both of which are endangered,” added Klein.

29.What can you learn from Paragraph 4?
A.The population of jellyfish might be decreasing.
B.Eating jellyfish is so unusual that people shouldn't try it.
C.Making jellyfish as a food source is a new idea.
D.Eating jellyfish may help other endangered species in the sea.
根据第四段中的“With jellyfish as a food ... kept in the sea.(有了水母作为食物来源,其他濒危物种就有可能被留在海里。)”
30.Why does the last paragraph mention “mountain gorillas” and “elephants”?
A.To support the suggestion for fisheries' better partnership with protection policies.
B.To state the fact that people would never consider eating mountain gorillas or elephants.
C.To emphasize the importance of labelling the seafood that people are eating.
D.To inform the readers that mountain gorillas and elephants are endangered animals.
答案:A

The United States Department of Agriculture has a program called Wildlife Services. Its job is to help protect agricultural and other resources. Often that means helping farmers deal with unwelcome visitors. This organization has experts from different fields and it has set up thousands of inquiry centers all over the country where farmer can explain their difficulty and get practical help.
One example from Wildlife Services of its work involved a farmer in Washington State in the Pacific Northwest. Several years ago, thousands of Canada geese landed on his fields. The geese began to eat his carrot crop. Biologists from the program suggested that the farmer use noisemaking devices and other measures to scare the large birds away. These efforts succeeded, which made the farmer quite happy. Wildlife Services also has a livestock protection program. The program just offers suggestions to keep those unwelcome visitors away instead of killing them. The Wildlife Services program is part of the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, or APHIS. APHIS offers some suggestions of ways to keep away predators. For example, try to keep food and water safe from wildlife. Fences may help keep out wolves, especially if the fences are at least two meters high.
Experts suggest providing secure shelter for chickens, sheep and other animals that could be attacked. They also suggest using lights above places where these animals are kept. And they advise people who see wolves to chase them away by shouting, making loud noises or throwing rocks. And to protect livestock, consider using guard animals such as dogs and donkeys, which are very effective.
For home gardeners a twometer fence might help keep out deer. To keep out rabbits, a wire fence has to be only about a halfmeter high. It should extend fifteen centimeters underground to keep rabbits from digging under it. If snakes are a problem, remove dead trees and cut high grass to destroy their hiding places. Due to its effective work, ever since the Wildlife Services was started, it has been well received by farmers all over the States and neighboring countries such as Canada and Mexico.

Dear David,
I'm glad to receive your letter. Thank you for your concern about the giant panda. Now I'd like to tell you something about it.
The giant panda is known as the national treasure of China. However, for some reasons, the number of them is falling quickly. At present people are taking effective measures to save pandas. They have set up a nature park for them in Sichuan Province, which is called “Pandas' Home”. There pandas can enjoy their life happily. There is a bamboo forest near the Pandas' Home. Because pandas are well protected now, the number of them is increasing every year. We hope that one day we will have enough pandas to set them free and let them live in the wild again.
As far as I'm concerned, pandas are good friends of man. Man should try to protect them and let them live in the way they like!
Yours,
Li Hua
It was Friday about 3:15. I had just gotten back from school; I sat down at a table to do my homework.
“Hi, Mom.” “Daniela, I need to talk with you.” “About what?” “Your dad and I have been thinking really hard about this, and you are getting a new sister.” “What, but what about me?” I asked. “I don't want a sister. Don't you love me?” “Yes, but ...”
Without letting her finish, I rushed to my room crying. I closed my door and went to my fluffy (毛茸茸的) bed. My bed sheets were blue, were as fluffy as a baby rabbit's fur, and usually helped me relax but not on this occasion. I had so much anger that I threw my glass cup on the floor.
“What happened here?” Mom asked to herself. My mom came in a few minutes later. She said that the way I was acting wasn't the right way to act. My mom started talking about how my new sister was having a really hard time. She said that her parents had unfortunately died in an earthquake, so she had to go to a foster (寄养的) home. A few days later, she got adopted by some people who treated her badly. They didn't give her enough food or water and treated her like a slave. She had to do all the housework in the house until one day she got tired of being treated poorly and escaped to the forest, and that was where they found her.
It was night, and I was in my bed when suddenly I felt like there was a thousand pounds on my eyelashes (睫毛). I couldn't keep them open, so I closed them. It was night, and I suddenly woke up and felt the ground move; I was scared and wanted to go to my parents' room. The shaking stopped, so I went to look for my parents, but I couldn't find them. Suddenly my eyelashes felt heavy. When I opened my eyes, I was on a farm. I was there for a few days with a horrible woman who never gave me food and treated me like a slave.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;
I felt the same way my sister felt: angry, sad, and hurt.
When I saw her, I respected her,
I felt the same way my sister felt: angry, sad, and hurt. At this moment, I felt very sorry for her. It was wrong for me to make parents only think of me. I experienced the bad times she had gone through. So I wasn't tired of her. If I lost my parents in the earthquake, maybe I was the same as her. That was terrible. Therefore, the next morning, my mom and I were waiting for her at the gate of our house.
When I saw her, I respected her, because I knew she had been treated as a slave. After my dad took her to the gate, we shook her hands warmly. “Hi, my name is Daniela, but you can call me Dani,” I said excitedly. “Hi, my name is Violet,” she replied eagerly. Though she was shorter than I, she looked very strong and I wondered whether I could be as strong as her. Then, I took her to my room, where we talked a long time, and we soon became the best friends and sisters.
