Granada is Spain's most visited city, drawing tourists from all over the world, most of whom are eager to see the famous world heritage sites. Also, some people can enjoy the wonderful music and dance festivals there. Located in Spain's most southern region, Granada guarantees visitors lovely hot weather during the summer. However, as it is set at the foot of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, there is skiing during the winter, making it a popular destination all year round.
Centuries ago, Granada was once a city filled with hundreds of public baths. One of the few that remain undamaged dates back to the 11th century. However, Granada's most popular attraction is the Alhambra. The name Alhambra means “red castle” because of the color of the stone, which is particularly beautiful at sunset. As you walk through its narrow streets and beautiful gardens, you will be able to experience the charm of this particular region.
Within the Alhambra is the Parador (旅馆) Granada, which is one of Spain's most popular hotels. It was originally part of a palace and later turned into a convent (女修道院), it's a place where you can calm your mind. Its tranquil courtyard and lovely views are some of the reasons why so many guests enjoy their stay.
Located on the hill not far from the Alhambra is Albaicin. This used to be an Arab silk market, but today the small streets are filled with shops selling local handicrafts. From Albaicin, there is a steep walk up to a church, but it's well worth the effort. With the mountains in the background, you will be able to get a beautiful view.
Granada has its own airport with flights from London and Stansted, so flying out for a long weekend couldn't be easier. Why not discover for yourself why so many people around the world love coming to this charming city?

Several weeks ago, I pulled an old road map out of the glove box and passed it to my children. They had never seen the province of Ontario laid out like that before. They stared at the map, asking about all the towns, parks, and other landmarks we'd visited, and I pointed them out on the map.
Google Maps and GPS are modern wonders that have gotten me out of many confusing places, but paper maps still have a role to play in our lives. Most of us adults learned to read them out of necessity, but it's up to us to pass on that skill to children whose need may not be so obvious, but who still stand to benefit from it.
As Trevor Muir wrote in an article on this topic, “When kids learn how to create and use paper maps, they are doing more than just learning how to get around. They are actually developing fundamental skills that they will use for the rest of their lives. Map skills still belong in today's classroom.”
As a child I had National Geographic maps taped to my bedroom walls. This aroused my curiosity and imagination about those places and thus made me eager to remember my geography and history lessons because they were tied to places I'd “seen”. Even now as a mother of four, I've also spared time to travel to many of the countries whose maps I studied as a child.
Additionally, in this fastchanging world, unexpected events can rapidly influence one's usual way of life. When GPS satellites or Internet connections are affected, this oldfashioned skill can get you out of a mess without requiring a smartphone. Last but not least, paper maps arouse “big picture” thinking, showing kids that there's a much bigger world out there and helping to direct them within it.
So, now is a good time to pull out those dusty old maps and lay them on the kitchen table.
篇章导读:本文是一篇夹叙夹议文。作者结合个人与Trevor Muir (特雷弗·缪尔)的学术观点,阐述了纸质地图对于儿童多方面能力发展的重要性。

6.What might be the topic of the article written by Trevor Muir?
A.The teaching focus in today's classroom.
B.The situations where paper maps are used.
C.The necessity of digital maps in the modern world.
D.The benefit of developing paper map skills for kids.
答案:D
解析:推理判断题。根据第三段中的“As Trevor Muir wrote in an article on this topic ... that they will use for the rest of their lives.(正如特雷弗·缪尔在一篇关于这个话题的文章中所说,‘当孩子们学习如何创建和使用纸质地图时,他们所做的不仅仅是学习如何去旅行。他们实际上是在发展他们将终生使用的基本技能’。)”可推知,Trevor Muir这篇文章的主题可能是培养孩子看纸质地图的益处。故选D。
7.Which of the following shows the author's opinion?
A.Internet connections are very reliable today.
B.GPS will sooner or later replace paper maps.
C.Paper maps provide kids with a grand vision.
D.Paper maps make people connected with each other.
答案:C
解析:推理判断题。根据倒数第二段最后一句“Last but not least, paper maps arouse ‘big picture’ thinking, showing kids that there's a much bigger world out there and helping to direct them within it.(最后但同样重要的是,纸质地图能激发孩子们的‘宏观’思考,向他们展示外面还有一个更大的世界,并帮助引导他们进入这个世界。)”可推知,“纸质地图为孩子们提供了一个宏大视野”是作者所认同的观点。故选C。
8.What would be the best title for the text?
A.Time to Teach Kids to Read Paper Maps
B.How to Teach Kids about Different Kinds of Maps

Ⅱ 七选五
Test anxiety can be a real problem if you're so stressed out over a test that you can't get past the nervousness to focus on the test questions and do your best work. Feeling ready to meet the challenge can keep test anxiety at a manageable level.
Be prepared. Some students think that going to class is all it takes to do well on tests. __1__ You will find your test anxiety eases when you start to study more regularly. The reason is that the more you know the material, the more confident you'll feel. Having confidence going into a test means you expect to do well.
Watch what you're thinking. If expecting to do well on a test can help you relax, what about if you expect you won't do well? __2__ They can contribute to your anxiety. If you find yourself having these thoughts, replace them with positive messages. Not unrealistic positive messages, of course, but ones that are practical and true.
Accept mistakes. Another thing you can do is to learn to keep mistakes in view—especially if you are a perfectionist or you tend to be hard on yourself. Everyone makes mistakes, and you may have heard teachers refer to mistakes as learning opportunities. __3__
__4__ If sitting for a test gets you so stressed out that your mind goes blank and causes you to miss answers that you know, then your level of test anxiety probably needs some attention. Your teacher or your school guidance counselor can be good people to talk to.
Take care of yourself. For some people, this might mean learning a simple breathing exercise. Practise breathing exercises regularly when you feel stressed. __5__ Then you can calm yourself down and get centered.
A.Ask for help.
B.Learn to praise yourself.
C.This helps your body see these exercises as signals to relax.
D.But good study habits and skills are more important.
E.So it's time to regard small failures as valuable experiences.
F.Then you will become more interested in asking questions.
G.You may send yourself some negative messages about the test.

(当你开始更有规律地学习时,你会发现你的考试焦虑减轻了。)”可知,下文提到有规律地学习,因此本句与上文构成转折,指出良好的学习习惯和技巧更重要。D项(但是良好的学习习惯和技巧更重要。)符合语境,故选D。
2.答案:G
解析:根据上文“Watch what you're thinking. If expecting to do well on a test can help you relax, what about if you expect you won't do well?(注意你在想什么。如果期望考得好能帮助你放松,那么如果你认为自己考不好呢?)”以及下文“They can contribute to your anxiety.(它们会导致你的焦虑。)”可知,上文提到想到自己考不好,下文则说会导致焦虑,由此可推知,本句是在说明导致焦虑的原因:给自己传递一些关于考试的负面信息。G项(你可能会给自己传递一些关于考试的负面信息。)符合语境,故选G。
3.答案:E
解析:根据上文“Everyone makes mistakes, and you may have heard teachers refer to mistakes as learning opportunities.(每个人都会犯错,你可能听过老师说错误是学习的机会。)”可知,上文提到把错误看作是学习的机会,本句应承接上文继续说明如何看待失败:把小的失败看作是有价值的经历。E项(所以,是时候把小的失败看作是有价值的经历。)符合语境,故选E。
4.答案:A
解析:根据下文“Your teacher or your school guidance counselor can be good people to talk to.(你的老师或学校指导顾问可以是很好的倾诉对象。)”可知,下文提到向老师或学校指导顾问倾诉自己的问题,即寻求他人的帮助。A项(寻求帮助。)符合语境,适合作段落主旨句,故选A。
5.答案:C
解析:根据上文“Practise breathing exercises regularly when you feel stressed.”可知,上文提到进行呼吸练习,故本句承接上文说明这一行为的作用:有助于你的身体把这些运动看作是放松的信号。C项(这有助于你的身体把这些运动看作是放松的信号。)符合语境,故选C。

Ⅱ 阅读
In our daily lives, we spend a lot more time typing on a keyboard than writing with pencil and pen, so does handwriting still offer anything useful?
Researchers tasked 42 adult volunteers with learning the Arabic letters from beginning: Some through writing it out on paper, some through typing it out on a keyboard, and some through watching and responding to video instructions. Those in the handwriting group not only learned the unfamiliar letters more quickly, but they were also better able to apply their new knowledge in other areas—by using the letters to make new words and to recognize words they hadn't seen before, for example.
The real question is: Are there other benefits to handwriting that have to do with reading and spelling and understanding?
While writing, typing, and visual learning were effective at teaching participants to recognize Arabic letters—learners made very few mistakes after six exercise sessions—on average, the writing group needed fewer sessions to get to a good standard.
Researchers then tested the groups to see how the learning could be generalized. In every followup test, using skills they hadn't been trained on, the writing group performed the best: naming letters, writing letters, spelling words, and reading words.
While 42 people isn't a huge sample size for a study of this type, the trends reported by the study indicate that pen and paper still have an important role to play in learning, even as digital formats (格式) have come to control our communications. And although adults were used in this particular experiment, the researchers say their findings should have relevance to children, too. Several previous studies have also highlighted the advantages of copying as an aid to learning.
Today pupils in schools spend far less time than they used to on handwriting skills and practice, for obvious reasons—but based on what this study shows, it wouldn't be wise to put away the pens and pencils permanently. Because with writing, you're getting a stronger representation in your mind that lets you support other types of tasks that don't in any way involve handwriting.

1.How did the researchers get the conclusion?
A.By making comparison.
B.By studying document.
C.By asking volunteers.

Ⅲ 读后续写
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Peter woke up early in the morning. He went downstairs in a hurry and started to have his breakfast as quickly as possible.
“Why are you in such a hurry, early bird?” Mum asked him. “We will have an English spelling test today, Mum,” Peter said. “Mr White promised to offer prizes to those who get 100 scores. I've been studying the word list since last week. Although the words are difficult, I am well prepared for them.”
Peter reviewed the spelling of each word once more carefully when Dad drove him to school. At last, it was time for the students to have a test. “Responsibility,” Mr White started. Peter wrote it on his test paper quickly and confidently.
“The second word: contribution,” Mr White said.
“So easy,” Peter thought. He quickly wrote the word down.
Thirty words later, the test papers were collected by Mr White. “I am to mark your papers now,” he told the class. After marking the test papers, Mr White said, “three of you won a prize today for excellent test scores. Peter, David and Mary got 100 percent on the spelling test!”
Mr White praised them. Meanwhile, he gave the three students each a dictionary. Peter's was an EnglishChinese dictionary—the one he liked best. Peter was so excited that he held it high when his classmates cheered. “This is my happiest moment,” Peter thought.
After Mr White gave the test paper back, Peter had a look at the words, feeling proud of his spelling. All of a sudden, the word “contribution” confused him. It didn't seem right. Peter began to compare them after taking out the word list. “Contribution,” he whispered. He had spelled it wrong.
“What am I to do?” Peter said to himself. “I expect my classmates to think I'm a master in spelling. If I tell Mr White one of my spelling words is wrong I'll have to give my prize back, or I will become an example for telling a lie.”
Staring at the red sign “100%” which was written at his test paper, Peter was lost in thought. After a while, he remembered a lesson Mum used to teach him, “We ought to be an honest person.”
注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;

I missed a word.” He stood up and handed his teacher the dictionary he liked best and his test paper. “I spelled contribution with ‘si’ instead of ‘ti’.” Peter could feel his classmates looking at him with surprise as he walked back to his desk. Mr White held up Peter's test paper. “Class,” he said, “Peter did something even more important than spelling every word correctly on a test.” Mr White smiled at Peter. “He taught us all a lesson on being honest.”
