In 2024, Opportunity International ran a program for volunteers worldwide to share Al-based ideas and then develop them with support from companies like Microsoft and Amazon. The best ideas were selected, and their creators received funding to test the free-to-use apps in their communities, with the goal of reaching millions of people within two years.
FARM HELP
The app is designed to use personal data to give advice that fits each farmer’s needs — like what seeds to plant or how much fertilizer (肥料) to use and when — based on climate, the size of the land, and crop history. The app’s ability to understand climate patterns in real time is quite important, for farmers consider climate as the topmost problem. With AI, working with the different climate changes is achievable.
LESSON PLANNING
This app helps teachers develop lesson plans specifically for their own students’ needs. Its founder once taught in a country school in Ghana, and found that teachers had little training and lacked resources and knowledge about how to meet the needs of students of different ages and learning styles. This app allows teachers to input information about students’ learning styles, and then creates lesson plans for them.
SCHOOLADMINISTRATION
Another app helps school owners with aspects of school development, such as employing teachers, marketing, and behavioral management. The app is expected to be a partner in the pocket for school leaders, to give them real-time solutions and ideas. It is ready to be introduced in 20,000 schools, possibly reaching 6 million students.
1. What can FARM HELP help farmers with?
A. Storing seeds. B. Selling produce online.
C. Dealing with different weather. D. Preventing crop diseases.
2. Who is SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION designed for?
A. School leaders. B. Teachers. C. Students. D. Parents.
3. What do the three apps have in common?
A. They are offered to people for free.
B. They are made for less-developed areas.
C. They are created by big tech companies.
D. They are funded to start a global business.

In a world where tree-dwelling animals (树栖动物) must brave traffic every day just to find lunch, a Brazilian biologist called Fernanda Abra is stepping in to help — by building special rope bridges that let animals stay in the trees and avoid the dangers below.
The idea came to Abra years ago when she spotted a Groves’ titi monkey — a species close to extinction — sitting dangerously close to a road. “It was totally left unprotected from cars,” she recalls. That moment set off a mission to protect Brazil’s wildlife, which loses about 475million wild animals yearly to car accidents. Partnering with the native people. Abra started the Reconecta Project. Together, they’ve built over 30 canopy (树冠) bridges along a long highway through the Amazon.
These overpasses aren’t just simple rope-and-wood structures. Each bridge is a high-tech design, equipped with cameras to monitor animals crossing. The videos show which species are frequent crossers, and which ones still avoid the bridges. The data helps improve designs, turning unwilling animals into regular crossers.
But the bridges do more than protect animals from being killed on the road. By reconnecting once-separated forest areas, they help animals move around more easily, find food, and even meet partners. For species that live alone, this could mean more chances to survive and grow their populations.
Abra’s work couldn’t be timelier. The fast growth of road construction in Brazil is hurting the natural homes of animals. Yet her team isn’t just building bridges — they’re adding speed bumps (减速带) on roads and posting animal-crossing signs to remind drivers they’ re sharing the roads. The project’s success has even caught global attention, mirroring efforts like California’s mountain lion-friendly freeway overpass.
Now, Reconecta is branching out. Abra is bringing together government departments, nonprofits, and universities to weave more green threads across Brazil’s road network. “Brazil has an amazing biodiversity (生物多样性),” she said. “I will do everything that I can to protect this rich biodiversity.”
4. What was the direct reason for Abra to start Reconecta?
A. Desiring to partner with natives.
B. Knowing the yearly animal death rate.
C. Noticing animals endangered by traffic.
D. Worrying about the loss of Amazon rainforest.
5. What are the cameras on the canopy bridges used to do?
A. Help animals to find food. B. Monitor species populations.
C. Scare off enemies for monkeys. D. Record crossings for better designs.
6. Why is California’s freeway overpass mentioned?
A. To point out timely actions are needed.
B. To introduce a new method for animal protection.
C. To show the Reconecta Project is getting global attention.
D. To stress shared challenges in road construction worldwide.
7. What is the passage mainly about?
A. The lifelines built in the treetops for wildlife.
B. The value of protecting Amazon’s biodiversity.
C. The need for combined efforts to protect wildlife.
D. The risks caused by Brazil’s highway development.
C 5. D 6. C 7. A

根据文章第二段“The idea came to Abra years ago when she spotted a Groves’ titi monkey — a species close to extinction — sitting dangerously close to a road. “It was totally left unprotected from cars,” she recalls. That moment set off a mission to protect Brazil’s wildlife, which loses about 475million wild animals yearly to car accidents. Partnering with the native people. Abra started the Reconecta Project.
根据文章第三段“Each bridge is a high-tech design, equipped with cameras to monitor animals crossing. The videos show which species are frequent crossers, and which ones still avoid the bridges. The data helps improve designs, turning unwilling animals into regular crossers. (每座桥都是高科技设计,配备了摄像头来监测过路的动物。视频会显示哪些物种经常使用天桥,哪些仍然对天桥避而远之。这些数据有助于改进桥的设计,让不愿使用天桥的动物也变成常客。)”可知,树冠桥上的摄像头用于监测动物的通行情况(记录哪些物种常使用、哪些避开),收集的数据能帮助改进桥梁设计。故选D。
【6题详解】
推理判断题。根据文章第五段“The project’s success has even caught global attention, mirroring efforts like California’s mountain lion-friendly freeway overpass. (该项目的成功甚至引起了全球关注,与美国加利福尼亚州为美洲狮打造的友好型高速公路天桥等举措遥相呼应。)”可知,文中提到加利福尼亚州的高速公路天桥,是为了举例说明 Reconecta 项目的成功引起了全球关注,与其他地区的动物保护举措形成呼应。故选C。
【7题详解】

The fashion industry is responsible for up to ten percent of the world’s carbon emissions (排放). But what if you could get clothes more sustainably and spend less money?
Enter rental fashion (服装租赁). Companies charge you a small part of the store price to borrow a piece of clothing. They’ll take care of the cleaning once you send it back. These companies advertise sustainability as one of the best reasons to rent: By sharing clothes among more people, they satisfy shoppers’ desire for new looks while avoiding the emissions that new clothes would produce.
The only thing is, of course, there are trade-offs. Shipping you those clothes creates carbon emissions, and so does washing them after you’re done with them.
Then how can you make sure that the environment gets the most benefit out of your money?
First of all, rent clothes you don’t wear frequently. Some companies rent out high-end clothes, while others offer more everyday options. The best clothes to rent are fancy clothes for special occasions. And higher-quality pieces are more likely to last through multiple (多次的) wears. If a rented piece of clothes gets worn more times than it would if one person owned it, that can definitely make a difference. Meanwhile, casual clothes such as jeans already get frequent wears and are better to own than rent.
You could also rent from a nearby location and pick up your clothes by yourself. If you were to use an environmentally friendly method, such as public transport or biking, that would even be better.
Of course, buying less can be one of the simplest and most cost-effective ways to live more sustainably. By buying fewer new clothes, you can help cut down the need for clothing production, which is responsible for most of emissions in the fashion industry.
8. According to the first two paragraphs, the rise of rental fashion is meant to ______ .
A. change shopping habits B. reduce environmental harm
C cut clothing production D. follow fashion trends easily
9. Which can best explain the underlined “trade-offs”?
A. Options. B. Costs. C. Preferences. D. Differences.
10. Which would be the greenest clothing habit according to the text?
A. Renting expensive clothes.
B. Renting clothes delivered easily.
C. Renting frequently-worn clothes.
D. Renting clothes with self-pick-up nearby.
11. What is the purpose of the text?
A. To encourage buying less.
B. To introduce changes in fashion.
C. To explain rental fashion and give advice.
D. To warn of the damage done by fashion industry.
B 9. B 10. D 11. C
根据第一段“The fashion industry is responsible for up to ten percent of the world’s carbon emissions (排放). But what if you could get clothes more sustainably and spend less money?(时尚产业的碳排放量占世界总排放量的10%。但是,如果你能更可持续地买到衣服,花更少的钱呢?)”和第二段中“These companies advertise sustainability as one of the best reasons to rent: By sharing clothes among more people, they satisfy shoppers’ desire for new looks while avoiding the emissions that new clothes would produce.(这些公司将可持续性宣传为租赁的最佳理由之一:通过与更多人共享衣服,它们满足了购物者对新造型的渴望,同时避免了新衣服产生的排放)”可知,租赁服饰的兴起是为了减少对环境的影响,故选B。
根据划线词下文“Shipping you those clothes creates carbon emissions, and so does washing them after you’re done with them.(把这些衣服寄给你会产生碳排放,穿完后洗它们也会产生碳排放)”可知,邮寄衣服寄会产生碳排放,洗它们也会产生碳排放,这是关于租赁衣服的环境代价,trade-offs意为“成本,代价”,故选B。
根据倒数第二段“You could also rent from a nearby location and pick up your clothes by yourself. If you were to use an environmentally friendly method, such as public transport or biking, that would even be better.(你也可以在附近租衣服,然后自己去取衣服。如果你使用一种环保的方式,比如公共交通或骑自行车,那就更好了)”可知,从附近租衣服且自己去取是最环保的方式,故选D。
【11题详解】
推理判断题。根据全文内容,结合第二段中“Enter rental fashion (服装租赁). Companies charge you a small part of the store price to borrow a piece of clothing. They’ll take care of the cleaning once you send it back.(进入服装租赁。借一件衣服,公司会向你收取商店价格的一小部分。你送回去后,他们会负责清洁的)”和第四段“Then how can you make sure that the environment gets the most benefit out of your money?(那么你怎样才能确保环境从你的钱中得到最大的好处呢?)”

Jackson Pollock, famous for his drip paintings (滴画), took advantage of certain features of fluid dynamics (流体力学) years before physicists studied them. “His particular painting technique essentially lets physics be a player in the creative process.” noted physicist Andrzej Herezynski.
In the 1940s, Pollock transformed the art world. Instead of painting on a standing canvas (画布), he laid it on the floor and let paint drip and splatter (飞溅). The lines and drops in his artworks might seem messy, but they aren’t. Scientists now say they show patterns similar to those found in nature, like in clouds and along coastlines.
A team of researchers studied his Untitled 1948-49. This painting features wavy red lines that twist and curl, which are formed due to “coiling”. Coiling is a fluid behavior that happens when a thick liquid flows and twists, like a rope folding onto itself. People once thought Pollock made these lines by moving his hand in a special way, but he didn’t. In fact, by moving his arm at different speeds and using paints of different thicknesses, he could control how much coiling appeared in the final painting.
The first scientific papers about coiling didn’t appear until the late 1950s. But Pollock knew all about it in 1948. He was famous for searching for using different kinds of paints, and mixing his paints with special chemicals to make them thicker or thinner. “When Pollock was doing that, in a way he was doing fluid dynamics experiments,” Herezynski said. “What’s interesting here is that he set out to explore that effect in his paintings before physicists were exploring it.”
Pollock probably didn’t realize how he was using fluid dynamics in his paintings. He just followed his feelings. “He wasn’t trying to explore the physics behind the process but to create a certain artistic look. But the two were connected — You can’t separate them.” Herezynski added.
12. What made Pollock’s paintings special?
A. He painted them on the floor. B. He unknowingly used physical laws.
C. He drew inspiration from nature. D. He invited physicists to be co-authors.
13. How did Pollock create the coiling effect in his paintings?
A. By using ropes to guide paints.
B By following a fixed color order.
C. By making unusual hand motions.
D. By adjusting paints’ flowing speed and thickness.
14. What did Herezynski think of Pollock’s experiments?
A. They reshaped modern art. B. They explored artistic effects.
C. They studied physics behind art. D. They aimed to find the best paints.
15. What might be a suitable title for the text?
A. The Secret of Creativity B. A New Way to Learn Fluid Dynamics
C. How Physics Changed Painting D. The Advanced Physics of Jackson Pollock
B 13. D 14. B 15. D

根据第一段“Jackson Pollock, famous for his drip paintings (滴画), took advantage of certain features of fluid dynamics (流体力学)years before physicists studied them. “His particular painting technique essentially lets physics be a player in the creative process.” noted physicist Andrzej Herezynski.(以滴画法闻名的Jackson Pollock在物理学家研究流体动力学的几年前就利用了流体动力学的某些特征。“他独特的绘画技巧基本上让物理学成为创作过程中的一个参与者。”物理学家Andrzej Herezynski说道)”和最后一段中“Pollock probably didn’t realize how he was using fluid dynamics in his paintings.(Pollock可能没有意识到他是如何在他的画中使用流体动力学的)”可知,Jackson Pollock的作品的特别之处在于他无意识地运用到了流体动力学的物理学理论,故选B。
根据第三段中“In fact, by moving his arm at different speeds and using paints of different thicknesses, he could control how much coiling appeared in the final painting.(事实上,通过以不同的速度移动他的手臂和使用不同厚度的颜料,他可以控制在最终的画作中出现的盘绕程度)”可知,Pollock通过调整颜料的流动速度和厚度来创造出盘绕的效果,故选D。
根据第四段中““When Pollock was doing that, in a way he was doing fluid dynamics experiments,” Herezynski said. “What’s interesting here is that he set out to explore that effect in his paintings before physicists were exploring it.”(“当Pollock在做这件事的时候,在某种程度上他是在做流体动力学实验,” Herezynski说。“有趣的是,在物理学家探索这种效应之前,他就开始在自己的画作中探索这种效应。”)”可知,Herezynski认为Pollock的实验探索了艺术效应,故选B。
【15题详解】
主旨大意题。根据全文内容,结合第一段“Jackson Pollock, famous for his drip paintings (滴画), took advantage of certain features of fluid dynamics (流体力学) years before physicists studied them. “His particular painting technique essentially lets physics be a player in the creative process.” noted physicist Andrzej Herezynski.(以滴画法闻名的Jackson Pollock在物理学家研究流体动力学的几年前就利用了流体动力学的某些特征。

I have a public pool habit when I travel. It’s how I observe everyday life, wherever I am.
I was reminded of this the other day while getting a haircut from my hairdresser Noel. He mentioned a trip he was about to take, and I asked what he was planning to do. “Oh, I’m going to the barbershop,” he said. “Whenever I go someplace new, I like to head over to the local barbershop for a haircut.” He loves having a window into the lives of strangers. I had always thought of my public pool visits as strange. However, Noel’s barbershop habit made me see them as a shared way of thinking about travel. Our eyes met in the mirror, and I smiled in recognition.
“Authentic” is a popular word these days when we talk about travel. I think it means wanting to know something real about a place. So often, the vacation plan sold to us involves a schedule that has been followed by millions of others, one that promises to be amazing, eye-opening and new. And yet so little of it truly surprises since we’ve already seen it all on social media. Taking part in real daily life, not designed especially for you, is what really matters. That’s where the surprise lies.
I decided to ask people who travel a lot about what they like to do when they are on the road. My friend Jon is a musician. When he is on tour, he loves finding fruit he has never had before. He’ll load the tour bus with his discoveries. Wherever public radio journalist Lisa goes, she opens up eBird, a citizen science app, to find out what has been spotted recently, and then plans her day accordingly. Birding leads her to parks she would otherwise never visit.
Listening to people talk about how they open a window to life elsewhere reminds me of why I love travel. A kind of fruit or a bird you’ve never seen before can offer an unexpected path to discovery. Rather than passively watch, you connect with a place long enough to uncover a truth about it.

Visiting public pools./ Public pool visits. 关键词public pools
52. Because they both like exploring local life while traveling./ Because they both get connected with local life. / Because they share the same way of thinking about travel. / Because they both like having a window into the lives of strangers. / Because they love observing everyday life wherever they travel. / Because they both want to know something real about a place.

54. It supports the opinion of authentic travel. / Real travel means connecting with local life and discovering something real about a place.
55. (possible version 1)In my opinion what matters most about travel is experiencing authentic life. It allows people to connect deeply with the local culture, rather than just follow typical tourist routes. In a world of social media and staged experiences, authentic travel brings real surprises and personal growth. It helps travelers understand a place in a more meaningful and honest way.
(possible version 2)I think getting connected with local place actively is quite important because it helps people better understand and respect different cultures, which can reduce misunderstandings and build tolerance. It also allows travelers to grow personally by facing new challenges and gaining confidence. Moreover, authentic travel helps people make meaningful connections with locals and other travelers, enriching their social life and broadening their views of the world.
(possible version 3)In my opinion, what matters most about travel is seeing famous landmarks and visiting well-known attractions. These places are popular for a reason—they reflect the history, art, or spirit of a city. While daily life is interesting, I think seeing iconic sights gives you a clear and lasting impression of a place, and helps you understand why it’s special to the world.
根据第一段中“I have a public pool habit when I travel.(我旅行时喜欢去公共泳池)”可知,作者旅行时喜欢去公共泳池。
根据第二段中“He loves having a window into the lives of strangers. I had always thought of my public pool visits as strange. However, Noel’s barbershop habit made me see them as a shared way of thinking about travel. Our eyes met in the mirror, and I smiled in recognition.(他喜欢有一个了解陌生人生活的窗口。我一直觉得去公共泳池很奇怪。然而,Noel的理发店习惯让我看到了他们对旅行的一种共同思考方式。我们的目光在镜子里相遇,我认同地笑了笑)”可知,作者旅行时喜欢去公共泳池,而Noel旅行时喜欢去当地的理发店,他们有共同的爱好,都喜欢在旅行时探索当地的生活,了解一个地方的真实情况。故答案是Because they both like exploring local life while traveling./ Because they both get connected with local life. / Because they share the same way of thinking about travel. / Because they both like having a window into the lives of strangers. / Because they love observing everyday life wherever they travel. / Because they both want to know something real about a place.
根据第三段中“So often, the vacation plan sold to us involves a schedule that has been followed by millions of others, one that promises to be amazing, eye-opening and new. And yet so little of it truly surprises since we’ve already seen it all on social media.(很多时候,卖给我们的度假计划包括一个已经被数百万人遵循的时间表,这个时间表承诺是惊人的,大开眼界的和崭新的。然而,由于我们已经在社交媒体上看到了这一切,所以真正令人惊讶的事情很少)”可知,作者认为销售给我们的度假计划是可预测的,因为人们已经在社交媒体上看到它们,缺乏真正的惊喜。故答案是They’re predictable because they lack real surprises. / They’re not truly surprising because people have already seen them on social media. / They’re not so amazing because of too much exposure on social media.
第三段最后两句“Taking part in real daily life, not designed especially for you, is what really matters. That’s where the surprise lies.(真正重要的是参与真正的日常生活,这不是专门为你设计的东西。这就是惊喜所在)”提到,真正的旅行是融入当地生活,第四段“My friend Jon is a musician. When he is on tour, he loves finding fruit he has never had before. He’ll load the tour bus with his discoveries. Wherever public radio journalist Lisa goes, she opens up eBird, a citizen science app, to find out what has been spotted recently, and then plans her day accordingly. Birding leads her to parks she would otherwise never visit.(我的朋友Jon是一位音乐家。当他在巡演时,他喜欢寻找他以前从未吃过的水果。他会把他的发现装满旅游巴士。无论公共电台记者Lisa走到哪里,她都会打开一个名为eBird的公民科学应用程序,看看最近发现了什么,然后据此计划自己的一天。观鸟把她带到了她从未去过的公园)”可知,以Jon和Lisa为例说明了什么是真正的旅行,即融入当地生活,发现一个地方真实的一面。故答案是It supports the opinion of authentic travel. / Real travel means connecting with local life and discovering something real about a place.
本题是开放题型,询问旅行中最重要的是什么,答案合理即可,例如:结合第三段最后两句“Taking part in real daily life, not designed especially for you, is what really matters. That’s where the surprise lies.(真正重要的是参与真正的日常生活,这不是专门为你设计的东西。这就是惊喜所在)”可知,在我看来,旅行最重要的是体验真实的生活。它可以让人们深入了解当地文化,而不仅仅是遵循典型的旅游路线。在社交媒体和舞台体验的世界里,真实的旅行带来了真正的惊喜和个人成长。它帮助旅行者以一种更有意义和诚实的方式了解一个地方。故答案是(possible version 1)In my opinion, what matters most about travel is experiencing authentic life.

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Thank you!
Hello everyone,
I’m Li Hua from Group 3. Today, I’m here to share something that concerns us all — flood safety.
We surveyed 200 students and surprisingly found only 25% know how to protect their health after a flood, and just 35% are aware of hidden dangers like broken power lines. Even more concerning, 60% don’t know what to bring when evacuating. On the positive side, 76% of the students can recognize flood warning signals.
But clearly, there are still serious gaps. That’s why we believe action is necessary. We plan to create short videos or give brief talks on essential safety tips. We’ll also organize a hands-on activity where students can practice preparing an emergency bag. To improve awareness of hidden dangers, we’ll run a short quiz to help reinforce key knowledge.
Floods don’t wait — so let’s get prepared, together.
Thank you.
Hello, everyone,
I’m Li Hua from Group 3. Today, I’m here to share something that concerns us all — flood safety.
The questionnaire shows our flood safety awareness needs improvement. While most of us can recognize warning signals, still many lack flood safety knowledge, such as spotting hidden dangers, knowing what to bring when evacuating and protecting personal health.
To raise the flood safety awareness, our group has designed to host a flood safety knowledge workshop. Experts will be invited to teach how to identify hidden dangers in floods. Also, we’ve prepared vivid brochures in which essential items for survival are illustrated. And each group number will take turns posting safety tips regularly on the school website.
We hope these measures will enhance our flood safety awareness and self-protection abilities.
Thank you.
Hello, everyone,
I’m Li Hua from Group 3. Today, I’m here to share something that concerns us all — flood safety.
From the results we can see that students lack the knowledge to stay safe in flood. For example, more than 50% of the students surveyed do not know what to bring when evacuating, while only 26% are clear about how to protect their personal health.
To address these issues, we plan to take several measures. First, organize lectures to spread practical knowledge, like health protection. Second, educational videos and posters will be made to get more students informed of hidden dangers. We’ve also designed a detailed evacuation checklist to hand out among students. We hope these measures can help raise their awareness of self-protection.
Thank you.

A They are offered to people for free.

These companies advertise sustainability as one of the best reasons to rent: By sharing clothes among more people they satisfy shoppers’ desire for new looks while avoiding the emissions that new clothes would produce.
C. cut clothing production D. follow fashion trends easily
9 Which can best explain the underlined “trade-offs”?
A. Options. B. Costs.

B. By following a fixed color order.
C. By making unusual hand motions.
D By adjusting paints’ flowing speed and thickness.

51. What is the author’s habit when traveling?(No more than 5 words)

52. Why did the author smile at Noel in the mirror?(No more than 15 words)
