课时梯级训练(十二) Section Ⅴ Writing
Ⅰ.阅读理解
Travel is one of the most exciting experiences a human being can have.Imagine how Italian traveler Marco Polo must have felt when he found himself on Chinese soil, seeing a way of life quite different from anything he'd seen before.
And how great must it have been to listen to Zhang Qian when he returned to China from his journey through Central Asia and West Asia! His brain must have been packed with everything he'd seen and heard, leading to the founding of the Silk Road.
Some people have traveled all over the world and travel is a way of life to them. They perhaps know what to expect before they travel. That's why the best travel is when it's for the first time.Imagine a person who has always wanted to travel to the United States.Of course, they've probably seen the Statue of Liberty a thousand times on TV,and the White House and all the other famous sights. But none of that would compare to the excitement of looking out of the window as the plane lands, watching the cities and streets of the real America come into view.
Although travel is often just for recreation,it's also educational. We may not know that we are getting an education, but we still are. We're learning when we're travelling:new words in a new language, new people, and new ways of life. But this learning takes place in the school of the world, not the classroom. As we get to know foreign places,we come to understand that there are many different ways to live, and that the way we live isn't necessarily the best way.
1.Why does the author take Marco Polo and Zhang Qian as examples?
A.To present travel as an amazing experience.
B.To explain how the Silk Road was founded.
C.To show how the way people travel has changed.
D.To describe important cultural exchanges in history.
2.What can we learn from the third paragraph?
A.Those who often travel enjoy the trips best.
B.The first trip to a new place is most exciting.
C.The unknown place is the best for travellers.
D.Your trips will be better when well prepared.
3.What does the underlined word “recreation” probably mean?
A.Difference. B.Risk.
C.Learning. D.Fun.
4.What does the author believe according to the last paragraph?
A.Traveling should be included in formal education.
B.Traveling improves people's confidence in their lifestyle.
C.Traveling abroad can enrich people's knowledge of the world.
D.Foreign ways of life are better than our own way of life at home.

Travelling forces you out of your comfort zone.
School provides a safe environment where you feel comfortable with people who share similar cultures and backgrounds.Meanwhile, travelling means new foods, cultures, languages, people, and places to explore.2.______ And it is a good thing, because it will help you grow as a person.
Travelling allows you to see and experience new ways of life.
3.______ Reading about it in a textbook is not the same as living it.Travelling gives you a new perspective(观点) on how you live and helps you understand and appreciate different cultures.
4.______
Moving to a new place far away from home requires you to adapt to a new culture, language, and customs.Overcoming these challenges and accomplishing things you never thought possible will build your confidence and selfesteem(自尊心).
Travelling helps you be comfortable with uncertainty and the unexpected.
If there's only one thing you can be sure of while travelling,it's that trips don't always go according to plans. There are plenty of things that can go wrong and that can force you to change your plans.Travel teaches you to be flexible,go with the flow, and accept uncertainty.5.______

2.C [解析]根据本段标题“Travelling forces you out of your comfort zone.”可知,本段主要强调旅行能够让自己走出舒适区,即本段与“走出舒适区”有关。C项“它驱使你走出舒适区”符合语境,其中comfort zone 为原词复现,It指代Travelling。故选C。

What about your arrangements for your vacation?

Ⅳ.读后续写
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
My husband and I are fond of travelling.Ten years ago,we went on a 10day trip across the Atlas Mountains and the Sahara Desert.
On our secondtolast day in Morocco,we happily took a trip to Essaouira,an old and beautiful seaside town on the Atlantic coast.During the journey there,we stopped at a local shop, where we got to taste some argan oil. After that,we headed for where we stayed. We arrived at our small guest house in Essaouira at around dinner time, and on our way to a local restaurant my husband started to feel unwell. He went back to our guest house while I had dinner with some friends.
When I got back to our guest house after dinner,I found my husband sitting on the bathroom floor, looking very pale.He had been sick about six times in an hour.He spent the rest of the night in the bathroom, getting very familiar with the house's pipe. Our main suspect object was the argan oil—it probably didn't agree with him.
At about 4 a.m.,my husband finally managed to leave the bathroom and crawl into bed.He was very sick and dehydrated,so I went down to the reception to buy a bottle of water. When I got to the lobby,I found a young man behind the desk, who didn't look older than 18,and explained to him that my husband was sick and I needed to buy some bottled water for him.
Our house was very small and basic and didn't have a restaurant or café.The young man informed me that they didn't sell any drinks at the house.Worrying about my husband,I asked him where the nearest shop was.I looked out of the window and my heart started to race.I didn't fancy risking going into the unfamiliar streets of the Medina in the dark all by myself. In fact,I was afraid of it.

1.续写词数应为150左右;

Paragraph 1:
Instead of giving me directions to the nearest shop, the young man asked me to wait for him there. He popped outside and disappeared in the dark quickly.I was wondering what he would do when he appeared in about 15 minutes out of breath, carrying a large bottle of water. He gave me the bottle and asked me to give my husband some water as soon as possible. You couldn't imagine the relief that washed over me when I saw him in the doorway.
Paragraph 2:
I handed him 5 dollars for the water. But he didn't accept the money despite my insistence.I had been up all night worrying about my husband. The last thing I wanted to do was walk through unfamiliar streets in the dark. The young man helped me without expecting anything in return.I was so grateful for the kindness from a total stranger on a helpless night.
