Here are some exciting ones that attract visitors worldwide. Montreal Comedy Festival Since 1983, Montreal Comedy Festival, or, Just for Laughs as it is more commonly known, has been inviting people to get together just for fun, just for entertainment — just for laughs. The festival, which takes place every year for two weeks in July, has grown in popularity and reputation and today features some of the world’s greatest comedians and it also resulted in a television show that is broadcast internationally. Vancouver Celebration of Light The largest fireworks competition in the world is held every summer in Vancouver. It consists of concerts, food stalls, and the Seawall Challenge, a popular urban adventure race. The festival, which lasts about a week, makes for a great way to get to know the city from a local standpoint. Toronto International Film Festival Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) is one of the leading film festivals in the world ranking closely with Cannes and Sundance. Films such as Hotel Rwanda, American Beauty, and The Big Chill made their premieres (首映) at this famous star-filled event held each September. The 11-day-long festival is also known as the kick-off of awards season, with many films that make their first public performance at TIFF going on to get nominated (提名) for Oscars and Golden Globe awards. Edmonton Folk Festival From its humble beginning in 1980, Edmonton Folk Festival has grown to be one of the world’s famous folk festivals. Held each August, the lineup of the 10-day-long festival is always outstanding and ticket prices stay reasonable. Edmonton is also a gateway to Jasper National Park and the Canadian Rockies, about two hours away in case you have extra time to explore after the festival. 1. Which of the following lasts the shortest? A. Edmonton Folk Festival. B. Montreal Comedy Festival. C. Vancouver Celebration of Light. D. Toronto International Film Festival. 2. Where will movie enthusiasts most probably go to enjoy themselves? A. Edmonton. B. Toronto. C. Montreal. D. Vancouver. 3. What is unique to Edmonton Folk Festival? A. It is held annually. B. It is free of charge. C. It is near other tourist attractions. D. It is broadcast on TV internationally. 1. C 2. B 3. But often, it’s limited to snowmen or other snow statues. Simon Beck had a different idea, and over the course of a decade he has carved a path for himself in the snow art world. He creates large land art by walking across soccer-field-sized areas covered in untouched snow. Combined with light and shadow, his artistic designs can only be fully appreciated when viewed from above. Beck, 59, a former map maker turned into a snow artist, thanks to his decision late in life to pursue his hobby. “It started just as a joke one day really,” Beck explained. “After skiing one day, I decided to make a drawing on snow to have pleasure…” “I really had no idea how good it would look when I made that first drawing, but it really went beyond my expectation.” he said of his first ever creation that he looked down on from a ski lift. To create this work, Beck stepped his way through the snow using only snowshoes and a ski pole for measurement with nothing else but the image of a design idea in his head. It was not challenging at all due to his previous work experience. But as his designs developed and became more complex, Beck said he began to start drawing them on paper first. Beck’s paintings have become a huge hit since his work was first shared. “Most of the time I had been doing failed careers, and people around me are asking what’s the quickest way of getting rid of this person,” Beck said. “And for the first time, I felt people actually wanted me. I felt like a more valued member of society.” 4. Where does Simon Beck create art? A. On canvas. B. In the sky. C. On snow fields. D. At soccer courts. 5. Why did Beck create his first drawing? A. To seek fun. B. To prove his talent. C. To develop a new hobby. D. To enhance his former career. 6. What contributes to Beck’s art creation? A. His passion for skiing. B. His competitive nature. C. His dream to be an artist. D. His experience of making maps. 7. What did Beck think of his painting work? A. Boring. B. Rewarding. C. Demanding. D. Discouraging. C 5. A 6. D 7. 根据第一段中“He creates large land art by walking across soccer-field-sized areas covered in untouched snow. (他通过在未被踩踏过的雪地上行走,创造出巨大的大地艺术作品,这些雪地覆盖的区域有足球场那么大)”可知,Simon Beck在雪地上创作艺术作品。故选C。 【5题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段“It started just as a joke one day really,” Beck explained. “After skiing one day, I decided to make a drawing on snow to have pleasure…” 故选A。 根据第五段中“It was not challenging at all due to his previous work experience. But as his designs developed and became more complex, Beck said he began to start drawing them on paper first. 但随着他的设计不断发展,变得越来越复杂,Beck说,他开始先在纸上画出设计图)”以及第二段“Beck, 59, a former map maker turned into a snow artist, thanks to his decision late in life to pursue his hobby. 根据倒数第二段“Beck’s paintings have become a huge hit since his work was first shared.(自从Beck的作品首次被分享以来,他的画作就受到了极大的欢迎)”以及最后一段“And for the first time, I felt people actually wanted me. I felt like a more valued member of society. B。 C The first running boom came in the 1970s and 80s and there was no real diversity: it was all thin, skinny, white guys in very tight shorts. The second boom came after Paula Radcliffe broke the world marathon record in 2003, leading to a big jump in women taking up running, before parkrun grew the numbers again. You look now. This explosion — and it really is an explosion — has been brilliant to see. More than 1.1 million have signed up for the 2026 London Marathon — not only a world record but nearly double the figure from two years ago. Strikingly, for the first time, the male/female division is almost 50/50.The race is also getting younger: more than a third of UK entries are aged from 18 to 29 years old. Running has always been cheap and anyone can do it. Now it is also fashionable. But dig a little deeper, and there are some interesting things going on. Last month, for instance, Sport England found that while there were 349,000 more runners in England in 2024 compared to 2023, that rise was almost entirely fueled by women. “Part of the rise is because brands have realized that women are willing to spend a lot of money on products that work better and look nicer,” says Lee Glandorf, a marketer who works with sports brands. This huge ecosystem of female creators definitely brings in younger women. That is particularly true of Gen Z, who drink much less than previous generations and is more aware of mental health. A research is now showing that running is better than taking a pill to help with depression. Another factor behind the boom is the explosion of running clubs, which bring people together. In the buildup to the London Marathon, the sports brand Tracksmith had up to 400 runners gather outside its shop for its Sunday morning long runs with pacers running between 6.45-minute and 12-minute miles. 8. What can be known about the second running boom? A. Women preferred running to jumping. B. It was caused by parkrun across the world. C. Participants were all men professional runners. D. It began after the world marathon record was broken. 9. How is paragraph 2 developed? A. By offering surveys. B. By making comparison. C. By presenting numbers. D. By making a summary. 10. What change has taken place in running? A. It is fashionable. B. It is easily accessible. C. It involves more women. D. It is environmentally friendly. 11. What is the last paragraph mainly about? A. Diverse running styles. B. The benefits of running. C. Teenage runners’ health issue. D. The causes of the new running trend. D 9. C 10. C 11. 根据第一段中“The second boom came after Paula Radcliffe broke the world marathon record in 2003, leading to a big jump in women taking up running, before parkrun grew the numbers again.(第二次热潮出现在2003年保拉·拉德克利夫打破世界马拉松纪录之后,女性开始跑步的人数大幅增加,之后公园跑活动又使这一数字再次增长)”可知,第二次跑步热潮始于世界马拉松纪录被打破之后。 根据第二段中“More than 1.1 million have signed up for the 2026 London Marathon — not only a world record but nearly double the figure from two years ago. Strikingly, for the first time, the male/female division is almost 50/50. The race is also getting younger: more than a third of UK entries are aged from 18 to 29 years old.(超过110万人报名参加2026年伦敦马拉松赛,这不仅创下了世界纪录,而且几乎是两年前数字的两倍。 根据第三段中“Last month, for instance, Sport England found that while there were 349,000 more runners in England in 2024 compared to 2023, that rise was almost entirely fueled by women.(例如,上个月,英国体育局发现,与2023年相比,2024年英国的跑步者增加了34.9万人,这一增长几乎完全是由女性推动的)”可知,跑步运动中女性参与者的数量大幅增加。 根据最后一段中“Part of the rise is because brands have realized that women are willing to spend a lot of money on products that work better and look nicer(这一增长的部分原因是品牌意识到女性愿意在效果更好、外观更漂亮的产品上花很多钱)”及“A research is now showing that running is better than taking a pill to help with depression. Another factor behind the boom is the explosion of running clubs, which bring people together.(一项研究表明,跑步比吃药更能帮助缓解抑郁症。 D。 D A new study by researchers at Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health shows that climate change may significantly impact arsenic (砷) levels in rice, a main food for millions across Asia. The research indicates that increased temperatures above 2℃, combined with rising carbon dioxide (CO2) levels, result in higher concentrations (浓度) of arsenic in rice, potentially increasing lifetime health risks for populations in Asia by 2050. “Our results suggest that this increase in arsenic levels could significantly raise the incidence of heart disease, and other serious health effects,” said Lewis Ziska, PhD, Columbia Mailman School associate professor of Environmental Health Sciences. “As rice is a principle food in many parts of the world, these changes could lead to a substantial rise in the global problem of cancer, and other arsenic-related health issues.” From a health aspect, the harmful effects of long-lasting arsenic exposure are well established and include cancers of the lung and skin, as well as heart disease. Emerging evidence also suggests that arsenic exposure may be even linked to poor pregnancy (妊娠) outcomes. In fact, “ingesting rice in regions like southern China and Southeast and South Asia is already a significant source of cancer risk,” said Ziska. By measuring the effects of rising temperatures and CO2 on 28 rice kinds over ten years in the field using FACE (Free-Air CO2 Enrichment) method, and combining advanced modeling techniques, the team estimated health risks for seven Asian countries. “Based on our findings, we believe there are several actions that could help reduce arsenic exposure in the future,” Ziska noted. These include efforts in plant producing to minimize arsenic uptake, improved soil management in rice fields, and better processing practices. Such measures, along with public health initiatives focused on consumer education and exposure monitoring, could play a critical role in reducing the health impacts of climate change on people’s eating rice. 12. What leads to lifetime health risks according to the new study? A. Diversity of rice in Asia. B. Change in air composition. C. Rapid growth of population. D. Increasing arsenic levels in rice. 13. What can be learnt from paragraph 2? A. Impacts of rice on medical study. B. Potential risks from affected rice. C. Further research on people’s health. D. Approaches to growing high quality rice. 14. What does the underlined word “ingesting” in paragraph 3 probably mean? A Consuming. B. Producing. C. Transporting. D. Protecting. 15. What does the author think of the future of rice-eating? A. Doubtful. B. Concerning. C. Promising. D. Changeless. D 13. B 14. A 15. 根据第一段“The research indicates that increased temperatures above 2℃,combined with rising carbon dioxide (CO2) levels, result in higher concentrations (浓度) of arsenic in rice, potentially increasing lifetime health risks for populations in Asia by 2050. 根据第二段中“Our results suggest that this increase in arsenic levels could significantly raise the incidence of heart disease, and other serious health effects, (我们的研究结果表明,砷含量的这一上升可能会显著增加心脏病的发病率以及其他严重的健康问题的发生几率。)” 根据划线词前面的句子“Emerging evidence also suggests that arsenic exposure may be even linked to poor pregnancy (妊娠) outcomes. 可知,水稻砷的含量增加对身体健康有害;同时根据划线词所在句子“ingesting rice in regions like southern China and Southeast and South Asia is already a significant source of cancer risk,” said Ziska.(扎斯卡表示:“在诸如中国南部以及东南亚和南亚等地区,ingesting水稻已经成为了导致癌症风险增加的一个重要因素。”)” 故选A项。 最后一段指出“Such measures, along with public health initiatives focused on consumer education and exposure monitoring, could play a critical role in reducing the health impacts of climate change on people’s eating rice. When you’re moving on a tight timeline, efficiency in packing is crucial. These tips can help you get it all done before the big day. Schedule moving services as soon as possible Maybe you’re hoping to use professional movers. ___16___. Especially in the peak moving season, truck rentals, hourly moving services, and cross-country moving companies book up quickly. ___17___ Even though you’re on a deadline, if you can stay organized packing for a move, it’ll save you time because you’ll only have to transport the stuff you want and need. Make sure to label boxes with where they’ll go in your new home, not where they came from in your old house. ___18___. That saves you from having to move things around. Prepare for help If you’re lucky enough to have help from friends and family, don’t have them show up until you’re organized. That way, you can give them clear instructions like “take that pile to the trash can” or “box everything in this cabinet (柜橱).” ___19___. Follow moving company rules If you’re hiring movers, one of the most important packing tips for moving is to read your contract. ___20___. They may include things that are breakable, oversized, or extremely difficult to move. Make sure you know ahead of time what they’re willing to move and what they’re not. A. Sort your belongings B. Gather items used for packaging C. Booking them should be your first priority D. There are often restrictions on certain types of items in it E. There’s no point in moving items you’re never going to use F. That way, the movers can easily get things into the right room G. If they show up too soon, they’ll just slow you down with questions 【答案】16. C 17. A 18. F 19. G 20. 【16题详解】 上文“Maybe you’re hoping to use professional movers.(也许你希望雇用专业的搬家工人)”及下文“Especially in the peak moving season, truck rentals, hourly moving services, and cross-country moving companies book up quickly.(尤其是在搬家高峰期,卡车租赁、按小时计费的搬家服务以及跨国搬家公司很快就会被预订一空)”说明雇用搬家工人需要提前预订,空处承上启下,C选项中的“them”指代上文中的“professional movers”,说明预订搬家工人应是首要任务,下文是对此的解释,所以C选项“预订他们应该是你的首要任务”,符合语境。故选C。 【17题详解】 下文“Even though you’re on a deadline, if you can stay organized packing for a move, it’ll save you time because you’ll only have to transport the stuff you want and need. As you work through each room, sort the things into the categories like “donate”, “get rid of”, and “keep”.(即使你时间紧迫,如果你能在搬家时保持有条理的打包,这会节省你的时间,因为你只需要运输你想要和需要的东西。 故选A。 【18题详解】 上文“Labeling each box will streamline the unpacking process. Make sure to label boxes with where they’ll go in your new home, not where they came from in your old house.(给每个箱子贴上标签会使拆箱过程更加高效。 【19题详解】 上文“If you’re lucky enough to have help from friends and family, don’t have them show up until you’re organized. That way, you can give them clear instructions like “take that pile to the trash can” or “box everything in this cabinet (柜橱).”(如果你足够幸运,有朋友和家人的帮助,在你整理好之前不要让他们出现。 【20题详解】 上文“If you’re hiring movers, one of the most important packing tips for moving is to read your contract.(如果你雇了搬家工人,搬家最重要的打包建议之一就是阅读你的合同)”及下文“They may include things that are breakable, oversized, or extremely difficult to move. Make sure you know ahead of time what they’re willing to move and what they’re not.(它们可能包括易碎、过大或极难移动的东西。 An experienced skier was found buried under an avalanche (雪崩) on a remote trail after his wife managed to locate him. But it seemed that my family didn’t have enough money to buy me the bike that I’d wanted for Christmas. After supper was over on Christmas eve, I sat at the table, feeling sorry for myself. It was cold outside. Soon Dad came back. “Come on, Eric,” he said. “Put on warm clothes. It’s cold out tonight.” I was really upset then. Not only was I not getting the bike for Christmas, but now Dad was dragging me out in the cold. But anyway, I got up and followed him. Outside, in front of the house, our old truck was ready. The cold was already biting at me. Dad went into the woodshed (柴房) and came out with an armload of wood. “Dad,” I asked, “what are you doing?” He said, “I passed by Ms. Black’s house today. She is a single mother of three kids. Her eldest son, 8-year-old Robert, was out digging around in the woodpile trying to find a few chips. He was just wearing an old thin shirt, trembling with cold. They’re out of wood, Eric.” That was all he said and then he turned and went back into the room for a big ham. He handed them to me and told me to put them in the truck and wait. When he returned, he was carrying a bag of something in his hand. “What’s in the bag?” I asked. “Coats. They’re out of warm clothes. I got the children a little candy too. It just wouldn’t be Christmas without a little candy.” We drove two miles to Ms. Black’s house. We stopped at the gate and unloaded the wood, then we took the other things to the door. Ms. Black opened the door and let us in. The room felt cold. Such a small fire could hardly give off any heat at all. So Dad asked me to add more wood to the fire. I soon made the fire burn brighter and everyone’s spirits rose high. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ On the way back home, Dad turned to me and began to explain about the bike I had longed for. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】范文: I soon made the fire burn brighter and everyone’s spirits rose high. The room felt warm now. The kids started giggling when Dad handed them each a piece of candy and a coat. Ms. Black looked with a smile. “The children and I have been praying that angels would come to our help and here you come,” she said with tears running down her face. Dad took each of the kids in his big arms and gave them a hug before we left. Out on the truck I felt a warmth that came from deep within and I didn’t even notice the cold. On the way back home, Dad turned to me and began to explain about the bike I had longed for. It turned out that he and Mom had finally saved enough money to buy that bike for me. On his way to buy me the gift, Dad saw little Robert out of his house with an old thin shirt. “Son, I spent the money saved for your bike buying coats for the children. I hope you understand,” he said. I understood very well. Now the bike seemed very low on my list of priorities. Dad had given me the look on Ms. Black’s face and the joyful smiles of her three children. 词汇激活 行为类 ①传递:hand/give/pass ②拥抱:gave them a hug/embraced them/hugged them warmly ③购买:buy/purchase/acquire 情绪类 ①感动流泪:with tears running down her face/with tears streaming down her cheeks/with tears trickling down her face ②感到温暖:felt a warmth/experienced a sense of warmth/sensed a feeling of warmth 【点睛】[高分句型1] The kids started giggling when Dad handed them each a piece of candy and a coat. Beck 59, a former map maker turned into a snow artist, thanks to his decision late in life to pursue his hobby. A To seek fun. B. To prove his talent. C. To develop a new hobby. D. To enhance his former career. 6. What contributes to Beck’s art creation? A. His passion for skiing. B. His competitive nature. C His dream to be an artist. D. His experience of making maps. 7. What did Beck think of his painting work? A. Boring. B. Rewarding. C. Demanding. D. Discouraging. C The first running boom came in the 1970s and 80s and there was no real diversity: it was all thin, skinny, white guys in very tight shorts. C By presenting numbers. D A new study by researchers at Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health shows that climate change may significantly impact arsenic (砷) levels in rice, a main food for millions across Asia. D. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
