Once, two birds named Cici and Nick lived in a nest (巢). Both of them were very lazy. They always found excuses for not doing any work.
On a cold winter day, a strong wind was blowing. There was some snow, too. Suddenly the wind made a hole in their nest. The cold wind blew in through the hole and took away the warmth from the nest. Both the birds started feeling cold. Nick thought, “I wonder why Cici is so lazy. Why isn’t she repairing the hole?”
On the other hand, Cici thought that Nick would fill the hole. Both of them were depending on each other. So no one repaired the hole.
Soon snow started to fall and the wind nearly blew away the last warm air from the inside of their nest. The snow came into the nest from the hole. The lazy birds started shivering. But no one wanted to repair the hole.
In the morning both birds were dead in their nest. They lost their chances (机会) to repair the hole and shivered to death because of laziness. Neither of them could get up to work. Are the two birds like some people in our life?

Dear friends,
I’d like to share my studying suggestions (建议) with you. “Studying” is not the same thing as “doing homework”. Studying may include doing homework, but it is a lot more than that. If you say you have no homework, so you can’t, or you don’t have to study, you are wrong!
Some of my classmates don’t know how to study efficiently (有效地) like most successful students. Let me give you some suggestions on it. They worked for me in math and computer science. But everyone’s learning style (方式) may be different. Some of my suggestions may not work for you. But I still ask you to try them.
Manage (管理) your time.
Take notes (记笔记) in class and review (复习) them at home.
Find a quiet place to study.
Read textbooks (课本) carefully and slowly before and after class.
Do your homework.
Study for exams.
Please send me suggestions on studying that worked for you. I will try to include them in further versions (版本) of this guide.
Yours,
Emma

C. we should read fast to save time D. exams are the most important
42. What’s the writer’s purpose (目的) of writing this passage?
A. To get some help from others. B. To ask students to study harder.
C. To show she is very successful. D. To ask for and share her suggestions.
D
It is necessary to share your feelings with others. Sharing your feelings helps you to get closer to people you care about and who care about you.
Sometimes you feel sad, worried, or upset in your life. Don’t keep feelings hidden inside. If so, you can even feel sick! If you talk with someone who cares about you, like your mom, your dad or your friends, you will not be all alone with your problems or worries. It doesn’t mean your problems and worries go off, but at least someone else knows what your trouble is and can help you find ways to deal with it.
If the person doesn’t understand what you mean right away, try explaining it in a different way or give an example that has something to do with you. Of course, there are many ways for you to speak up your feelings. If you think you’ll have trouble saying what’s in your mind, write it down on a piece of paper.
Some of us, just like some adults, are more private (有隐私的) than others. That means some people will feel shyer about sharing their feelings. A kid doesn’t have to share every feeling he or she has, but it is important to share feelings when a kid needs help.
43. The passage is mainly for ________.
A. teachers B. teenagers C. parents D. babies
44. What does the underlined sentence (画线句子) tell us?
A. Don’t talk to anyone. B. Don’t care about others’ feelings.
C. Share your feelings with others. D. Stay inside and think it over.
45 What will happen if you talk with your friends about your worries?
A. They will help me find ways. B. They will laugh at me.
C. They will tell others about them. D. They will share feelings with me.
46. What is the title of the passage?
A. How to Make Friends B. Don’t Laugh at Others
C. Why You Feel Bad D. Talk about Your Feelings

Melvin studies at William Allen Middle School in Philadelphia. Recently, he has collected $ 1,500 by himself and $ 87 from his classmates to give away to Cooper University Hospital.
Melvin was born nine weeks premature (早产的) in Cooper University Hospital, weighing 2.6 kg. His father told him how Cooper saved his life, so he felt thankful to the hospital.
Melvin’s classmates joined him as soon as they found out about his kind behaviour (行为). Their teacher, Michael Berner, also held a class with them about helping others. “It wasn’t really about the money,” Berner said, “It was about the fact that they were doing something good.”
“It is great to help someone that I know,” said Jordan, Melvin’s classmate. Melvin’s neighbors also helped out.
Since Melvin was 8, he and his parents have given money to Cooper University Hospital every year. This year, Gary E Stahl, the head of Cooper’s division of neonatology (新生儿科学部门), went to Melvin’s school to accept the money.
The hospital uses the money to help about 500 young patients (患者) every year. “When they leave, we call them graduates (毕业生),” Stahl said, “We are pleased when our graduates and their families do well, like Melvin and his family.”
