Ian Russell, an airline pilot from Hereford, is preparing to run his first Ironman Triathlon (铁人三项赛) — at the age of 60. “They used to say life begins at 40. Now, 60 is the new 40,” said Mr Russell. Mr Russell was a keen sportsman when he was young, he listed climbing Mont Blanc and the Matterhorn among his achievements. He later took up running, before joining his local triathlon club. Inspired by some of his fellow members who had taken part, last autumn Mr Russell, who was 60 years old, signed up for the Ironman Triathlon event in Tenby, Pembrokeshire. He didn’t want age to restrict himself. “I originally thought that it’s local and easy to go, but it’s actually one of the toughest ones going,” he said. Since then, Mr Russell has trained “most days” — but has suffered a couple of setbacks. “I’ve had a big operation on my hand,” he explained, “which took a few weeks to recover. And then I broke my foot out training with the triathlon club. That took a good six to eight weeks to recover. So I’m not starting from the best base.” He said that, while he was training hard, he was avoiding pushing himself too much. “You might end up hurting yourself, which I can’t afford now,” he said. Mr Russell was also worried about making a cutoff, of two hours 20 minutes, to complete the swim. “All my main part of my training in my mind is revolving (围绕) around getting through the swimming part. So at least I can get on a bike and… let Mother Nature and tailwinds (顺风) take their course.” Despite this, the athlete said he had no regrets. “I’m proving that age is no barrier to setting bold goals and achieving them,” he added. 4. Why did Mr Russell say “60 is the new 40”? A. He was starting a new career. B. He felt younger than before. C. He wanted to sound humorous. D. He believed age shouldn’t limit his goals. 5. What can be learned from Mr Russell’s training experience? A. His coach caused his injuries. B. He trained too little for the event. C. He underestimated the difficulty of the race. D. He prioritized swimming over biking too early. 6. What does the underlined word “cutoff” in paragraph 4 refer to? A. A time limit. B. A competition rule. C. A safety zone. D. A broken record. 7. Which of the following words can best describe Mr Russell? A. Well-trained but proud. B. Determined and careful. C. Competitive and generous. D. Humorous but narrow-minded. D 5. C 6. A 7. 根据第二段中“Inspired by some of his fellow members who had taken part, last autumn Mr Russell, who was 60 years old, signed up for the Ironman Triathlon event in Tenby, Pembrokeshire. He didn’t want age to restrict himself. (去年秋天,60岁的Russell先生受到参加过比赛的俱乐部成员启发,报名参加了彭布罗克郡滕比市的铁人三项赛。他不愿让年龄限制自己的人生)”可推知,Russell说“60岁是新的40岁”是因为他认为60岁不应阻碍他参加这项比赛,年龄不应该限制他的目标。故选D项。 【5题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段中Russell所说的话“I originally thought that it’s local and easy to go, but it’s actually one of the toughest ones going (我原本以为它是地方性的,很容易进行,但实际上它是最难的比赛之一)”可推知,Russell最初低估了比赛难度。 根据画线词的下文“All my main part of my training in my mind is revolving (围绕) around getting through the swimming part. So at least I can get on a bike (我训练的核心目标始终是确保能完成游泳赛段。这样至少能顺利进入自行车环节)”可知,Russell把训练核心放在完成游泳赛段上,他担心的是自己能否在规定的时间限制两小时二十分钟内完成游泳,画线词指“时间限制”。故选A项。 根据第二段中“He didn’t want age to restrict himself. (他不愿让年龄限制自己的人生)”和最后一段“Despite this, the athlete said he had no regrets. “I’m proving that age is no barrier to setting bold goals and achieving them,” he added. (尽管如此,这位运动员表示他毫无遗憾。“我正在证明,年龄绝非设定远大目标并实现它们的阻碍。”他补充道)”可知,Russell坚持参加铁人三项的比赛,不愿让年龄成为自己的限制,说明他是坚定的;根据第四段中“He said that, while he was training hard, he was avoiding pushing himself too much. (他表示,尽管训练非常刻苦,但还是注意避免过度透支自己的身体)”和“All my main part of my training in my mind is revolving (围绕) around getting through the swimming part. (我训练的核心目标始终是确保能完成游泳赛段)”可知,Russell在训练上保证强度合理,重点关注自己薄弱的游泳部分,说明他是谨慎的。故选B项。 C A diet developed for brain health might slow or prevent cognitive (认知的) decline associated with mental health issues and age-related memory loss, a study says. “Following a MIND diet approach to meals can be a great way to boost brain health, because specific nutrients in a MIND diet play a vital role in brain health,” study lead author Dr. Sawyer said, who is a brain health expert at the University of Cincinnati. He likes this diet because it focuses more on what you should eat instead of what you should avoid. For example, he enjoys adding leafy green salads with nuts, beans, and olive oil to his meals rather than cutting out foods completely. The MIND diet combines two well-known healthy eating plans: the Mediterranean diet and the DASH diet, which is designed to lower blood pressure. MIND stands for Mediterranean-DASH Intervention for Neurodegenerative Delay. Its goal is to help slow brain aging and memory problems. The diet prioritizes whole grains, leafy green vegetables, berries, beans and nuts; encourages the consumption of other, non-leafy green vegetables, fish, seafood, and olive oil; allows for limited consumption of red meat and wine; and limits the consumption of fast food, fried food, butter, and sweet foods such as candy. According to Sawyer, the good foods in this diet are full of antioxidants (抗氧化物质), which protect the brain. In contrast, the less healthy foods can raise bad fats in the body, which may hurt brain health. Sawyer and his team investigated the effects of a MIND diet on 14,145 people, with an average age of 64 years. Over approximately 10 years, they found that those who followed the MIND diet closely had a lower risk of memory loss. The effect was stronger for women participants. However, the study did have limits — it was based on people’s own reports about what they ate and couldn’t prove cause and effect. Still, the study provides favorable data and evidence for future related studies. 8. What does Sawyer say about a MIND diet in paragraph 2? A. It has potential effects on brain health. B. It has been experimented among the public. C. It reduces the consumption of green vegetables. D. It is mainly targeted at brain health of middle-aged people. 9. What does the author intend to do in paragraph 3? A. Give an example. B. Make a comparison. C. Clarify a concept. D. Introduce a new topic. 10. What is the author’s attitude towards Sawyer and his team’s study? A. Objective. B. Disapproving. C. Unconcerned. D. Doubtful. 11. Which can be a suitable title for the text? A. Keeping a Balanced Diet Contributes to Our Health B MIND Diet Delivers Enormous Benefits to Kids C. consuming Red Meat and Wine Has a Side Effect D. MIND Diet May Help Keep Your Brain Healthy 【答案】8. A 9. C 10. A 11. 根据第二段首句中的“Following a MIND diet approach to meals can be a great way to boost brain health, because specific nutrients in a MIND diet play a vital role in brain health(遵循MIND饮食法来安排饮食是一种提升大脑健康状况的绝佳方式,因为MIND饮食中所含的特定营养成分对大脑健康起着至关重要的作用)”可知,MIND饮食对大脑健康有影响。 故选A项。 根据第三段“The MIND diet combines two well-known healthy eating plans: the Mediterranean diet and the DASH diet, which is designed to lower blood pressure. MIND stands for Mediterranean-DASH Intervention for Neurodegenerative Delay. Its goal is to help slow brain aging and memory problems.(MIND饮食法融合了两种广为人知的健康饮食方案:地中海饮食和旨在降低血压的DASH饮食法。MIND代表地中海-DASH 干预延缓神经退行性病变。其目标是帮助减缓大脑衰老和改善记忆力问题)”可推断,本段的目的是介绍MIND饮食特点及目标,即阐述概念,故选C项。 【10题详解】 推理判断题。根据末段“However, the study did have limits — it was based on people’s own reports about what they ate and couldn’t prove cause and effect. Still, the study provides favorable data and evidence for future related studies.(然而,这项研究确实存在一些局限性——它基于人们对自身饮食情况的自我报告,并不能证明因果关系。不过,该研究为未来的相关研究提供了有利的数据和证据)”可知,作者客观陈述了该实验的优点和不足。故选A项。 根据首段“A diet developed for brain health might slow or prevent cognitive decline associated with mental health issues and age-related memory loss, a study says.(一项研究指出,为大脑健康而制定的饮食方式或许能够减缓或阻止与心理健康问题以及与年龄相关的记忆力衰退相关的认知能力下降)”和末段“However, the study did have limits — it was based on people’s own reports about what they ate and couldn’t prove cause and effect. Still, the study provides favorable data and evidence for future related studies.(然而,这项研究确实存在一些局限性——它基于人们对自身饮食情况的自我报告,并不能证明因果关系。不过,该研究为未来的相关研究提供了有利的数据和证据)可知,本文旨在通过实验说明MIND饮食对大脑有一定好处,选项D表示“MIND饮食也许能帮助保持大脑健康”适合作为本文标题。故选D项。 D Brains are usually considered a bacteria-free zone. But that’s not the case for some fish. Wild and lab-grown salmonids (鲑科鱼)harbor active microbial (微生物的)communities in their brains. Most of the bacteria found in brains of lab-reared rainbow trout (虹鳟)appear to have initially come from their blood and guts. That suggests that microbes from other parts of the body can cross the blood-brain barrier. That layer of cells lies between brain cells and blood vessels, letting oxygen and nutrients in and keeping bacteria out. Microbial infection of animal brains has usually been linked to disease. For instance, brain-infiltrating microbes may be linked with Alzheimer’s disease in people. But brain bacteria aren’t necessarily bad news for fish. “The bacteria might even help rainbow trout pick up on microbial cues in the environment, aiding the migratory fish in navigation (航行)rivers,” says Irene Salinas, an immunologist studying fish. Salinas’ team searched for bacteria in brain samples from rainbow trout and grew 54 types of bacteria from lab-reared fish. That suggests that fish brains have a microbial community. Genetic analyses also revealed signs that bacteria adapt to living in the brain and cross the blood-brain barrier. While brain bacteria might not always be harmful to fish, there are exceptions. For example, the brains of aging Chinook salmon nearing death tend to have higher levels of bacteria compared to those of younger fish. These aging brains also show a buildup of amyloid-beta, a protein linked to Alzheimer’s disease in humans. This suggests that, similar to gut microbes, brain bacteria can potentially go out of balance, leading to health problems. The new findings open up questions about whether only fish have bacteria in the brain. Other animals may have brains chock-full of microbes, too. “When it comes to fish, there’s lots of diversity of different fishes on the planet,” Salinas says. “Maybe deep-sea fish or sharks have unique brain bacteria that help them live far below the surface.” 12. What function does the blood-brain barrier play in salmonids? A. To block oxygen. B. To produce bacteria. C. To provide nutrients. D. To keep the brain healthy. 13. In which way can the brain bacteria help rainbow trout? A. Finding the way. B. Boosting growth. C. Controlling disease. D. Preventing infection. 14. What does the example of the aging Chinook salmon imply? A. Aging fish have few brain bacteria. B. Young fish lack enough brain bacteria. C. Brain bacteria can cause health problems. D. Brain bacteria are always beneficial to fish. 15. What can be inferred from the last paragraph? A. Brain bacteria of the sea life are the same. B. More research on animals’ brain bacteria is needed. C. Many animals’ brains are full of different microbes. D. Salinas will study why fish can live far below the surface. 【答案】12. D 13. A 14. C 15. B 【解析】 【导语】这是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍研究发现鲑科鱼脑中有活跃微生物群落,可能有益也可能失衡致病,还引发对其他动物脑细菌疑问。 【12题详解】 细节理解题。根据第一段“That layer of cells lies between brain cells and blood vessels, letting oxygen and nutrients in and keeping bacteria out.(这层细胞位于脑细胞和血管之间,让氧气和营养物质进入,防止细菌进入)”可知,血脑屏障可以让氧气和营养物质进入大脑,并防止细菌进入,因此它对鲑鱼的大脑健康有益,维护大脑健康。故选D。 【13题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段“But brain bacteria aren’t necessarily bad news for fish. “The bacteria might even help rainbow trout pick up on microbial cues in the environment, aiding the migratory fish in navigation (航行) rivers,” says Irene Salinas, an immunologist studying fish.(但大脑细菌对鱼类来说并不一定是坏消息。研究鱼类的免疫学家Irene Salinas说:“这种细菌甚至可以帮助虹鳟鱼捕捉环境中的微生物线索,帮助河流中的洄游鱼类。”)”可知,大脑细菌可以帮助虹鳟鱼找路。故选A。 【14题详解】 推理判断题。根据倒数第二段“While brain bacteria might not always be harmful to fish, there are exceptions. For example, the brains of aging Chinook salmon nearing death tend to have higher levels of bacteria compared to those of younger fish. These aging brains also show a buildup of amyloid-beta, a protein linked to Alzheimer’s disease in humans. (虽然大脑细菌可能并不总是对鱼有害,但也有例外。例如,与年轻的鱼类相比,接近死亡的年老奇努克鲑鱼的大脑往往含有更高水平的细菌。这些衰老的大脑也显示出淀粉样蛋白的积累,这是一种与人类阿尔茨海默病有关的蛋白质)”推知,年老奇努克鲑鱼的例子说明大脑细菌可能造成健康问题。故选C。 【15题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“The new findings open up questions about whether only fish have bacteria in the brain. Other animals may have brains chock-full of microbes, too. “When it comes to fish, there’s lots of diversity of different fishes on the planet,” Salinas says. “Maybe deep-sea fish or sharks have unique brain bacteria that help them live far below the surface.”(这项新发现提出了一个问题,即是否只有鱼类的大脑中才有细菌。 Rather than focusing on giving up an existing bad habit it’s often easier to replace it with a healthier habit. It was from her high school, announcing the annual student art show — and this year; for the first time, alumni (校友) were invited to display their works. It had been five years since she had walked those hallways. Back then, Emily had been the quiet girl who spent lunch breaks sketching (画速写) in her notebooks, hoping not to be noticed. She didn’t play sports, and rarely spoke in class. But art had always been her favorite. Now, she was studying at an art college and had even sold a few paintings online. Yet, holding that invitation, she felt the same nerves she used to feel walking into the school cafeteria. Would they even remember me? Would they laugh at what I’ve created? Still, something inside her whispered: Go. Maybe it was curiosity, and Emily decided to return. On the day of the show, she arrived early with one of her favorite pieces: a painting of a girl standing in the middle of a storm, her hair wild, her eyes calm. It was bold (大胆自信的), colorful, and very different from the soft pencil sketches she used to hide in her notebooks. The school gym had been transformed. Canvases (油画) lined the walls, spotlights lit each piece, and soft music played in the background. Students and teachers walked around, admiring the works. Emily found a spot for her painting and took a deep breath. As people began to arrive, Emily kept to the side, watching from a distance. Then, to her surprise, someone tapped her shoulder. “Emily? Is that yours?” It was Anna, one of the most outgoing girls from her year, now dressed in a stylish suit. “I love it. There’s so much power in it. I never knew you were so talented.” Emily laughed, a little surprised. No former classmates had ever said that to her before. 注意: 1.续写词数应为150个左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 But the moment that Emily would never forget came toward the end of the show. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Emily stepped onto the stage to receive the best artist award. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 But the moment that Emily would never forget came toward the end of the show. The lights dimmed slightly, and the host stopped onto the small stage with a microphone in hand. “Tonight,” she began, her voice warm, “we celebrate not only artistic skill, but courage — the courage to express, to return, and to inspire.” The room fell silent. Then came the words that made Emily’s breath catch: “This year’s Best Artist Award goes to Emily.” Never had she imagined being recognized, especially in the very place where she once hid in the background. Yet now, all eyes were on her — not with judgment, but admiration. Emily stepped onto the stage to receive the best artist award. Taking a deep breath, Emily bowed and said, “Thank you, I used to think that being quiet meant being invisible. I thought my voice didn’t matter.” She paused, the room silent. “But tonight reminded me that expression comes in many forms. Whether it’s through painting, music, writing, what’s inside us deserves to be shared. Don’t be afraid to show the world who you are.” Applause filled the room, but more importantly, so did understanding. And to think — it had all started with a pencil and a quiet girl who dared to draw. 词汇激活 行为类: ①上台:step onto the stage/walk onto the stage ②鞠躬:bow/bend down ③展示:show/showcase 情绪类: ①钦佩:admiration/respect ②害怕:afraid/fearful 【点睛】【高分句型1】Never had she imagined being recognized, especially in the very place where she once hid in the background. B While many of us will be taking advantage of the holiday for a bit of rest and relaxation, one man will be in training to push his body to its limits. 5 What can be learned from Mr Russell’s training experience? A. His coach caused his injuries. B. He trained too little for the event. C. He underestimated the difficulty of the race. D. He prioritized swimming over biking too early. 6. What does the underlined word “cutoff” in paragraph 4 refer to? A. A time limit. B. A competition rule. C. A safety zone. D. A broken record. 7. Which of the following words can best describe Mr Russell? A. Well-trained but proud. B. Determined and careful. C. Competitive and generous. D. Humorous but narrow-minded. C A diet developed for brain health might slow or prevent cognitive (认知的) decline associated with mental health issues and age-related memory loss, a study says. A. Keeping a Balanced Diet Contributes to Our Health B. MIND Diet Delivers Enormous Benefits to Kids C. consuming Red Meat and Wine Has a Side Effect D. MIND Diet May Help Keep Your Brain Healthy D Brains are usually considered a bacteria-free zone. 注意: 1.续写词数应为150个左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡相应位置作答。 But the moment that Emily would never forget came toward the end of the show. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Emily stepped onto the stage to receive the best artist award. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
