Should Young Students Learn to Do Housework?
As you can see in the picture, a little boy who is
doing housework says to his mother,“Could you please
pay more?”Clearly, he does housework as a way to
make money. I don't agree with his words. I think it's
our duty to do housework.
I often help my parents do housework. At home, I
usually clean the room and make my bed. Sometimes I
cook for my family. It's very good to do chores. Firstly,
it can keep us healthy and strong. Some hard housework
can be regarded as a kind of physical exercise.
Secondly, to do housework can share our parents'work.
They must be happy if we can help them.
So I think young students should learn how to do
housework.

The Search-for-Lost-Birds list has come to public attention recently. On the list it shows ten
kinds of birds that have not been seen in the wild for at least fifteen years. The list is calling on
people to search for the rarest birds on earth.
There could be several reasons for the long disappearances(消失)of the birds on the list.
Maybe there have been no studies in areas where they live. Maybe people don't know where or how to
find them. Maybe there are changes to their natural homes because of human activities.
This year, four research teams are planning to find eight kinds of birds. If any of these lost birds
are found, ways can be found to protect them and help their populations grow. This has happened

We know that many animals do not stay in one place. Birds, fish and other animals move from
one place to another at a certain time. They move for different reasons. Most of them move to find
food more easily, but others move to get away from places that are too crowded.
When cold weather comes, many birds move to warmer places to find food. Some fishes give
birth in warm water and move to cold water to feed. The most famous migration(迁徙) is probably
the migration of the fish which is called“salmon”. This fish is born in fresh water but it travels many
miles to salt water. There it spends most of its life. When it is old, it returns to its birthplace in fresh
water. Then it gives birth and dies there.
In the north of Europe, there is a kind of mice. They leave their mountain homes when their
homes become too crowded. They move down to the low land. Sometimes they move all the way to the
seaside and many of them are killed when they fall into the sea.
Recently scientists have studied the migration of a special kind of lobsters(龙虾). Every year
when the season of bad weather arrives, the lobsters get into a long line and start to walk across the
floor of the ocean. Nobody knows where they go. So sometimes we know why animals move from one
place to another but at other times we don't. Maybe living things just like to travel.

Sunflowers are one of the most recognizable(可辨认的)plants in the world. They are large,
bright-coloured flowers that are known for always facing the sun during the day. This phenomenon is
called heliotropism(向日性).Young sunflower buds and leaves track the sun's movement across the
sky from east to west. As the sunflower matures, its flower head usually ends up facing east.
The structure of a sunflower is quite interesting. What we often think of as a single flower is
actually a large cluster(簇;群)of hundreds or even thousands of tiny flowers. The outer ring of
“petals(花瓣)” is actually made up of ray florets(舌状花),which are mainly for attracting
pollinators like bees and butterflies. The centre part consists of disk florets(盘心花),which can
develop into seeds after pollination.
Sunflowers are not only beautiful but also very useful. Their seeds are a popular snack, rich in
protein(蛋白质), vitamins, and healthy fats. They can also be pressed to extract sunflower oil,
which is widely used in cooking and the production of cosmetics(化妆品). In addition, sunflower
stalks can be used in the paper-making industry.
根据语篇内容,判断下列句子正(T)、误(F)。
( )16.Sunflowers are known for always facing the sun during the day.
( )17.Young sunflower buds and leaves track the sun's movement across the sky from west to
east.
( )18.The centre part consists of disk florets, which can develop into seeds before pollination.

Every year, millions of birds are killed or hurt when they fly into buildings. Why does this
happen?21._____Birds are flying into windows and tall buildings that are all covered by glass.
Many birds fly from one place to another. Most of the time, they live in the wild, such as forests
and wetlands. 22._____They might see smalltrees and flowers inside a window and want to rest
on these plants. The birds do not know there is glass between them and the plants. 23.____
Some birds fly at night. They use the moon and stars to help guide them in the right direction.
Tall buildings with lights on at night can confuse(迷惑)the birds.24._____The birds see the
light, but they cannot tell that the light is coming from inside a building. They fly toward the light
and crash into a building. On many mornings, there might be several dead birds lying on the ground.
25._____Many office buildings now turn off their lights at night. This helps reduce the
number of birds that fly into buildings and it also helps save energy.

The WWF(世界自然基金会)has warned that climate change is threatening(威胁)the life of
the snow leopards(雪豹)in the Himalayas(喜马拉雅山脉). It says rising temperatures cause the
natural living places of the big cat to the point that snow leopards could die out. In a new report, it
says that up to a third of the areas on the mountain where the snow leopards live could become
uninhabitable(不宜居住的). Lots of plants and food the animals need could disappear in warmer
temperatures. The WWF said,“The Himalayas area will face a danger if we choose not to care about
climate change..We willlose the snow leopard.”
It isn't just climate change that is making a serious threat to the future of the snow leopard.
Many activities from humans are also adding to the dangers the animals face. Snow leopards are
highly needed for their fur and body parts. People are killing the animals for money. The snow
leopards are also being killed by farmers when they are trying to protect their animals. As the natural
food of the snow leopards is decreasing, the animals are going into human areas to kill farm animals.
The result is that the farmers shoot the snow leopards. The WWF reported this result on Friday,
which was the first International Snow Leopard Day.
根据语篇内容,回答下列问题。(不超过8个词)
26.Where is climate change threatening the life of the snow leopard?
27. What causes the natural living places of the big cat to the point that snow leopards could die out?
28.How could a third of the areas on the mountain where the leopards live become in the new report?
29.What are people killing the animals for?
30.When did the WWF reported the result?

Have you ever moved house before? How did you adjust to(适应)life in a
31 place? Recently,scientists 32 some Burrowing Owls(穴栖猫头鹰)
settle(安置)into their new homes.
Burrowing Owls are small brown long-legged birds. They make homes in
underground burrows(洞穴)and prefer to 33 in groups. In California, there is another kind of
owls 34 the Western Burrowing Owl.
In the past, these owls lived in the grasslands. Iater, people began 35 cities on many of
the grasslands. This drove the owls off 36 burrows. So some of these birds were unable to
37 new homes. As a result, the number of Western Burrowing Owls in California was 38
than that in 1965.39 the number kept falling, they would be at risk of dying out.
40,scientists found out the problem some years ago. They soon began trying to move these
owls to some protected grasslands. In order to make the birds 41 more“at home”,scientists
played the recording sound of owl calls 42 these areas. They also used white paint to make fake
droppings(假粪便)of the owls. This made the birds 43 that other owls were living there. As a
result, they 44 their new homes and stayed there.
Scientists returned to check on the owls. Most of them seemed to 45 their new homes.
Hope they can enjoy their new lives there!
