She also rears silkworms in order to sew quilts. Li grows plants as well. She is often seen preparing meals with vegetables picked from her backyard. Where can you probably find this article? A. an advertisement. B. a science book C. a newspaper D. a storybook C We’re all familiar with songs getting stuck in our head while we’re awake, but it turns out this can happen during sleep as well. A new study investigating the phenomenon indicates that earworms invading(侵入)our brains at night could cause problems in getting to sleep and staying asleep. “Our brains continue to process music even when none is playing, including apparently while we are asleep,” says Michael Scullin. He and his colleagues used surveys of 199 people, as well as a sleep lab test involving 50 volunteers, to measure how listening to music before bedtime affects sleep. In particular, the team focused on catchy earworms. Earworms were reported throughout the night by participants, with those catching an earworm taking longer to fall asleep, spending more time in the light stages of sleep, and waking up more times during the night. Surprisingly, the instrumental versions of the songs caused about twice as many earworms and more subsequent sleep problems than the versions with vocal(声乐) “We thought that people would have earworms at bedtime when they were trying to fall asleep, but we certainly didn’t know that people would report regularly waking up from sleep with an earworm,” says Scullin. “But we saw that in both the survey and experimental study”. Past studies have linked late-night music listening with better sleep in those with insomnia(失眠), perhaps because it can relax the body. Scullin suggests avoiding listening to music right before bed to limit the chance of a catchy tune taking hold in our minds. Engaging in some other cognitive activity before sleeping, like making a list of jobs for the next day, might also help clear the mind, Scullin says. “Everyone knows that music listening feels good,” says Scullin. “Adolescents and young adults routinely listen to music near bedtime. But sometimes you can have too much of a good thing. The more you listen to music, the more likely you are to catch an earworm that won’t go away at bedtime. When that happens, chances are your sleep is going to suffer.” 28. What may happen to us if we have earworms at night? A. We may have a sound sleep. B. We may fall asleep in no time. C. We may wake up fewer times. D. We may suffer a light sleep. 29. What does the underlined word “that” in Paragraph 5 refer to? A. People have earworms at bedtime. B. People wake up from sleep with an earworm. C. People have more problems with vocal versions. D. People suffer earworms after hearing instrumental songs. 30. What does Scullin advise us to do before bed? A. List the songs we have listened to. B. Avoid listening to music. C. Listen to music to relax our body. D. Count worms to fall asleep soon. 31. What does the text mainly talk about? A. Late night music gets you to sleep soon. B. Music can relax your body. C. Earworms hurt you when you are asleep. D. Many people have sleep problems at night. D Math had never been something I was good at since middle school. Classes became harder in high school, and I was even further from a math teacher’s dream student. So at the start of my freshman year, I had an aversion to math. It wasn’t that I didn’t want to do well, but simply that I didn’t think I was able to do well. “I can’t” became my state of mind in all things related (有关的) to math. However, I was soon to learn that “I can’t” was not a choice in Mr. A’s class. Mr. A always greeted (迎接) us with open arms as he said, “Welcome! Smile! It’s a great day to be alive!” It was clear that Mr. A had a true passion (热情) not only for math but for teaching. If Mr. A ever experienced bad days in life, he never showed it. Mr. A greeted us with that same smile every day. He encouraged each student, from the top achiever to the “I can’t” student. I found myself looking forward to math class, although I still hated the subject itself. Being in Mr. A’s presence made me feel good, as if I had the chance to succeed. As the year progressed, I spent increasingly more time on my homework, and I met with Mr. A weekly. My classmates began to do the same, and it became “cool” to have lunch and talk with Mr. A. We didn’t know it at the time, but he was changing our attitudes (态度). Though my story is not one of overnight success and I didn’t become a straight-A math student, my hard work did begin to pay off and my grades slowly began to climb. There were hard times, of course. Difficult math questions sometimes succeeded in bringing me down, but Mr. A kept reminding (提醒) me, “Kate, smile! It’s a great day to be alive!” 32. What does the underlined word “aversion” in paragraph 1 probably mean? A. Interest. B. Responsibility. C. Dislike. D. Misunderstanding. 33. What first made the author look forward to math class? A Mr. A’s attitude. B. Her interest in math. C. Her friends’ encouragement. D. The top achievers in her class. 34. How did the author feel about her talk over lunch with Mr. A? A. It was straight. B. It was awkward. C. It was challenging. D. It was impressive. 35. How did the author change in math? A. She made slow progress. B. She fell in love with math. C. She became a straight-A math student. D. She became comfortable with difficult math questions. Musical chairs is a game mainly used in schools and at parties for children. I gave her some money and stopped to talk to her for a while. I asked her about how she ended up on the street and if there was a shelter she could go to. She told me about some of her struggles. She told me that she left home at seventeen and had been homeless since then. She said that her bag with all her clothes and possessions was stolen the night before, while she was sleeping outside a church. Shesaid that she went to the day centre every day and they made calls to try to find her a shelter but nothing was available, as all shelters for women were full up. It had been like this for months. I listened to her and said a few kind words to her. After we spoke, I told her that it was really nice to meet her and wished her all the best. I left feeling really sad and frustrated that there was nothing I could do to ease her situation. I have spoken to a few other homeless people and I have heard about how difficult it is to get a place in a shelter, or sometimes some shelters can be so unsafe that it is better for them to sleep on the streets. I was on my way to my flower store. While trimming(修剪)these kinds of beautiful flowers, I thought about the lady I had just met and other homeless people I had spoken to. Last year, I moved to London, where I’m working for an American company. It’s been a big change, and there have been lots of things to get used to. For example, in the U.S. we drive on the right, while here in Britain I’ve had to get used to driving on the left. What else? Well, the weather in Florida is usually great, so I’m used to lots of sunshine, and I used to sunbathe a lot. In London it rains so much. I don’t think I’ll ever get used to it, and I always remember to take my umbrella with me. At the company where I work, it’s quite different. I used to work from 9 a.m. till 11 p.m. I hated working so late. Here in England, I start at 8:30 a.m., but finish at 5 p.m. On Friday evening English people like to go to the club with friends, but in America I used to go to the gym. D 29. B 30. B 31. 根据第四段“Earworms were reported throughout the night by participants, with those catching an earworm taking longer to fall asleep, spending more time in the light stages of sleep, and waking up more times during the night.(受试者整夜都会报告有余音绕梁,那些感染了余音绕梁的人需要更长的时间才能入睡,在浅睡眠阶段花费更多的时间,在夜间醒来的次数也更多)”可知,如果我们睡前听歌,可能会影响睡眠。 根据第五段“but we certainly didn’t know that people would report regularly waking up from sleep with an earworm(但我们当然不知道人们会经常报告说因为余音绕梁从睡梦中醒来)”可知,that指代上文提到的因为余音绕梁从睡梦中醒来,故选择B项。 根据第七段“Scullin suggests avoiding listening to music right before bed to limit the chance of a catchy tune taking hold in our minds.(斯库林建议避免在睡前听音乐,以限制一首朗朗上口的曲子在我们脑海中占据一席之地的机会)”可知斯库林建议人们睡前不要听音乐。 根据第一段“A new study investigating the phenomenon indicates that earworms invading(侵入)our brains at night could cause problems in getting to sleep and staying asleep.(一项调查这一现象的新研究表明,余音绕梁入侵我们的大脑在夜间可能会导致睡眠和保持睡眠的问题。)” D Math had never been something I was good at since middle school. A. Mr. A’s attitude. B. Her interest in math. C. Her friends’ encouragement. D. The top achievers in her class. 34. How did the author feel about her talk over lunch with Mr. A? A. It was straight. B. It was awkward. C. It was challenging. D. It was impressive. 35. How did the author change in math? A. She made slow progress. B. She fell in love with math. C. She became a straight-A math student. D. She became comfortable with difficult math questions. C 33. A 34. D 35. 根据上文“Math had never been something I was good at since middle school. Classes became harder in high school, and I was even further from a math teacher’s dream student.(从中学起我就不擅长数学。高中的时候,上课变得越来越难了,我离数学老师的梦想学生更远了。)”可知,从中学到高中,作者越来越学不会数学。画线词所在句中的“So”表明上下文为因果关系,作者学不好数学,所以“不喜欢”数学。划线词aversion与dislike意思相近,意为“不喜欢,厌恶”。故选C。 【33题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段中的“It was clear that Mr. A had a true passion(热情) not only for math but for teaching.(很明显,A老师不仅对数学有着真正的热情,而且对教学也有着真诚的热情。)”和“Mr. A greeted us with that same smile every day. He encouraged each student, from the top achiever to the ‘I can’t’ student.(他鼓励每一个学生,从最优秀的学生到‘我不能’的学生。)” 故选A。 根据第四段中的“My classmates began to do the same, and it became ‘cool’ to have lunch and talk with Mr. A.(我的同学们也开始这样做,和A老师一起吃午饭和聊天变得很‘酷’。)” 根据最后一段中的“Though my story is not one of overnight success and I didn’t become a straight-A math student, my hard work did begin to pay off and my grades slowly began to climb.(虽然我的故事不是一鸣惊人的那种故事,我也没有成为一名数学全优的学生,但我的努力确实开始有了回报,我的成绩也开始慢慢攀升。)” 故选A。 Musical chairs is a game mainly used in schools and at parties for children. I thought it must be frustrating not to be able to experience so many of the day-to-day things that I and many others take for granted such as a roof over our heads, a bed to sleep in, money to buy food and even money to buy presents for a dear one. I decided that I could do something for her. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ She raised her head suddenly, with her eyes full of surprise. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】参考范文: I decided that I could do something for her. I went home after a while and packed up some food and clothes that were not fit any more for my family. And then I headed for the place where we had met. Luckily, she was there. Seeing me appearing again, she seemed delighted, with a bright smile on her face. When I handed her all the stuff I had prepared for her, she cried, burying her face in her hands. I came up to comfort her and ask her whether she would like to work in my store. She raised her head suddenly, with her eyes full of surprise. She said with a trembling voice, “I certainly would love to, but am I suitable for the job?" I immediately responded that she could surely do well in my store! From then on, she worked pretty hard. In addition to her own job, she even helped others to go through their hard times. I felt more than delighted to see my kindness spread. I made up my mind to volunteer in local charities to help more people in need. 词汇激活 行为类 前往:head for/make one’s way to 递给:hand/pass 愿意:would like to do sth./be willing to do sth. 情绪类 高兴的:delighted/glad 颤抖的:trembling/shivering 【点睛】[高分句型1] I went home after a while and packed up some food and clothes that were not fit any more for my family.(运用了that引导定语从句) [高分句型2] I came up to comfort her and ask her whether she would like to work in my store.(运用了whether引导宾语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$听力考试正式开始。听下面对话,每段对话后有一个小题,从题中所给的选项中选出最佳选项,并标在试卷的相应位置。听完每段对话后,你都有10秒钟的时间来回答有关小题和阅读下一小题,每段对话仅读一遍。I think this skirt looks really fashionable, IT fits me well, and the Price isn't too expensive, and red is my favorite ite color.
