I grew up as an only child, enjoying free-range childhood adventures in nature. I would disappear into the forest, fascinated by the mysterious stories of animals around me. When I was about seven, I came across a little cat seriously injured by a board. The vet (兽医) examined her mouth and said, “She’s not going to make it.” I couldn’t understand how he knew that. That moment awakened my interest in understanding animals, and I decided to become a vet. I eventually earned a degree and spent over 25 years working as an environmental health scientist.
In 2017, concerns about antibiotic resistance (抗生素抗药性) led the US government to change laws, meaning beekeepers could no longer buy antibiotics over the counter; they now required a prescription (处方). This change inspired me to establish a veterinary practice specifically for bees — a unique field in the US.
As a bee vet, I assist beekeepers facing various issues in their hives (蜂箱). European foulbrood, a disease often detectable by its special sweet smell, is especially harmful to babies. The queen survives, but over weeks or months, the colony fails.
We’ve had terrible weather here. If bees are struggling to find food, it can put them at risk. Last February was really warm, and wild bees were coming out of hibernation (冬眠) only to find nothing for them to eat. This mismatch in timing is one of the leading risks to both honeybees and wild bees.
Honeybees are protected from some environmental pressures because we house them, we feed them, and we care for them. It is the wild bees that I’m extremely worried about — they depend on how well the environment is supporting them.
My first approach to learning this profession was books, but books can only take me so far. I feel like every bee is so precious now, especially early in the year. That is often when the wild bee queens are out and may be weak. Saving her can save a whole colony. So a lot is resting on that one bee: If I can help her, I will.
4. What inspired the author to become a vet?
A. The experiences of raising pet cats.
B. The joy of exploring nature as a child.
C. The need for a vet specializing in bees.
D. The words of a vet about an injured cat.
5. Why did the author establish a veterinary practice for bees?
A. The government banned antibiotics for bees.
B. Beekeepers needed prescriptions for antibiotics.
C. Bee diseases had become more difficult to treat.
D. Beekeeping had become more popular in the US.
6. According to the author, what is probably the deadliest threat to wild bees?
A. The overuse of antibiotics.
B. The increased honey demands.
C. The abnormal weather patterns.
D. The competition from farmed bees.
7. What is the best title for the text?
A. A Vet’s Journey to Saving Bees
B. A New Challenge for Beekeepers
C. The Hidden Dangers of Antibiotics
D. The Concerning Loss of Bee Population
D 5. B 6. C 7. A

Philadelphia, often referred to as Philly, is a major city located along the Delaware River in Pennsylvania, a state in the northeastern United States. Founded in the 1680s by an Englishman William Penn, who also planned its layout (布局), the city was named Philadelphia — a word Penn understood to mean “city of brotherly love” in Greek.
Philadelphia served as the nation’s capital from 1785 to 1790. Earlier, it was the capital of the American colonies (殖民地) during most of the Revolutionary War against Britain. Philadelphia became the central meeting place for the “Founding Fathers” who created the United States government. The buildings where they worked can be seen today in an area called the Old City, or Independence National Historical Park. The main building is Independence Hall. That was where colonial leaders declared independence and later debated the creation of a government.
Near the park stands National Liberty (自由) Museum, housing over ninety paintings and sculptures, which represent the idea that liberty is a freedom that is easily broken. Several blocks away lies National Constitution (美国宪法) Center, a privately operated nonprofit museum that opened its doors in Philadelphia on July 4, 2003. The museum was created to increase public recognition of the Constitution, its history and its importance today. Visitors here are presented with the idea that the most important part of American constitutional democracy (立宪民主) is the individual citizen.
Philadelphia also offers plenty for visitors who are less concerned about history and more concerned about their stomachs. There are many food choices for foodies, including a typical sandwich — the Philly cheesesteak, usually made of thin pieces of meat covered with cheese, offered with onions and other toppings and served on a long roll. And where can the best Philly cheesestaak be found? That question is the subject of much debate—one way to settle it: try them all and decide for yourself!
8. What did William Penn do with Philadelphia?
A. He designed it in person. B. He named it with his language.
C. He ruined it and rebuilt it. D. He brought in Greek traditions.
9. What does paragraph 2 focus on about Philadelphia?
A. Its historical unrest. B. Its main attractions.
C. Its architecture style. D. Its historical place.
10. Why was National Constitution Center founded?
A. To increase profits for a private museum. B. To honor the makers of the Constitution.
C. To educate visitors about the Constitution. D. To collect opinions from ordinary citizens.
11. What does the author want to do through the debate in the last paragraph?
A. Doubt the local food. B. Make an invitation to visitors.
C. Introduce a food recipe. D. Remind visitors to watch out for danger.
A 9. D 10. C 11. B

NASA’s Artemis program, aimed at returning humans to the moon, has faced further delays. Americans will next see astronauts (宇航员) on the moon in September 2026. Artemis 2, a mission to fly around the moon with four astronauts, is now scheduled for April 2026, deferred from its original target of September 2025. Artemis 3, which aims to land astronauts on the moon for the first time in over 50 years, is now planned for mid-2027.
The Artemis program is part of NASA’s efforts to establish a human presence on the moon, with plans to build lunar bases that could eventually support missions to Mara. The program has faced several delays and is expected to cost $93 billion by the end of 2025. According to NASA’s associate administrator for exploration systems development, these updates are key to ensuring the safety of the missions and developing the necessary technology for future Mars missions.
The delays were announced following an examination on the Orion spacecraft’s heat shield (热屏障), which protects astronauts from the extreme heat of re-entering the Earth’s atmosphere. During the 2022 Artemis 1 unmanned test mission, engineers discovered faults in the heat shield. Hot gases trapped inside the shield’s outer layer caused cracks (裂开), although areas where the material was more permeable (可渗透的) allowed gases to escape, preventing damage.
NASA assures that if an astronaut had been aboard Artemis 1, they would have remained safe despite the heat shield issues. To prevent similar problems, engineers will adjust (调整) the re-entry path for Artemis 2, reducing the time Orion spends in high temperatures. This adjustment is based on findings that the guidance entry technique used in Artemis 1 allowed too much heat to build up.
The updated timeline will give NASA time to address technical issues while keeping the schedule as close to the original as possible. The Artemis program is part of a new space race to reach the moon’s south pole. NASA’s administrator expressed confidence in overcoming challenges and stressed the importance of getting the next test flight right to ensure the success of the Artemis program.
12. What does the underlined word “deferred” in paragraph 1 mean?
A. Put off. B. Called on. C. Selected. D. Completed.
13. What is the reason for the delays in the Artemis program?
A. A lack of astronauts. B. Financial limitation.
C. Technical problems. D. An environmental examination.
14. What is paragraph 4 mainly about?
A. The adjustment of the astronauts.
B The solution to the heat shield issues.
C. The safety of engineers in future missions.
D. The failure of entry to the Earth’s atmosphere.
15. What is the NASA administrator’s attitude to the Artemis program?
A. Watchful. B. Uncaring. C. Doubtful. D. Positive.
A 13. C 14. B 15. D

根据划线单词所在语境“Artemis 2, a mission to fly around the moon with four astronauts, is now scheduled for April 2026, deferred from its original target of September 2025.(原本计划于2025年9月执行的Artemis 2号任务——搭载4名宇航员绕月飞行——现已deferred至2026年4月。)” 故选A。
根据文章第三段“The delays were announced following an examination on the Orion spacecraft’s heat shield (热屏障), which protects astronauts from the extreme heat of re-entering the Earth’s atmosphere. During the 2022 Artemis 1 unmanned test mission, engineers discovered faults in the heat shield.(此次延期是在对猎户座飞船的热屏障进行检查后宣布的,该热屏障的作用是保护宇航员免受重返地球大气层时的极端高温影响。在2022年Artemis 1号无人测试任务中,工程师们发现了热屏障存在的缺陷。)”可知,计划延期的直接原因是航天器热屏障存在技术故障。故选C。
【14题详解】
主旨大意题。根据文章第四段“NASA assures that if an astronaut had been aboard Artemis 1, they would have remained safe despite the heat shield issues. To prevent similar problems, engineers will adjust (调整) the re-entry path for Artemis 2, reducing the time Orion spends in high temperatures. This adjustment is based on findings that the guidance entry technique used in Artemis 1 allowed too much heat to build up.(美国国家航空航天局保证,即便Artemis 1号任务中有宇航员在舱内,尽管存在热屏障问题,他们也会是安全的。为防止类似问题发生,工程师们将调整Artemis 2号的重返路径,以减少猎户座飞船在高温环境中的停留时间。这一调整是基于在Artemis 1号任务中发现的问题——当时所使用的制导进入技术导致了过多热量的积聚。)”可知,第四段主要讲述了针对热屏障问题的解决措施。故选B。
【15题详解】
推理判断题。根据文章最后一段“NASA’s administrator expressed confidence in overcoming challenges and stressed the importance of getting the next test flight right to ensure the success of the Artemis program.(美国国家航空航天局局长对克服挑战充满信心,并强调确保下一次测试飞行的成功对Artemis计划的成败至关重要。)”

As students, recognizing when we need help and seeking out the support are important parts of growing up. ____16____. Here are some tips to make it easier for you to connect with them.
Be considerate
Teachers truly want to help you, and it’s part of their job. So don’t worry that you’re being a troublemaker and don’t hesitate to reach out for help. However, teachers often have packed schedules. So it’s important to be mindful of their time. Start by greeting them, then politely ask if they have a moment to chat. ____17____.
Ask specific questions
To get the most out of your time with a teacher, come prepared with focused questions. ____18____. Saying something like “I don’t understand math at all” leaves the teacher guessing where to start. Instead, bring a specific problem you missed on a test and ask them to explain your mistake step by step. In short, think through your concerns beforehand and prepare detailed questions for your teacher.
Be proactive
____19____. Instead of waiting until you see a bad grade on your report card or final exam reach out as soon as you notice you’re struggling. Being proactive and seeking help early — before you fall too far behind — will make it much easier to catch up.
____20____
Let’s say you know you’re not going to be able to finish a paper or other assignments by the due date. You can approach the teacher in advance in a positive and respectful manner, explain your situation and ask for an extension (延期). Often, teachers will grant your request, and they’ll be more likely to be forgiving if you are honest and upfront.
A. Be honest
B. Be flexible
C. Timing matters when asking for help
D. Approaching teachers to ask for help may seem scary, though
E. Therefore, it’s fine to approach the teacher to ask for an explanation
F. If not, schedule a better time and note it down to remind you of the meeting
G. It’s hard to help someone who is unsure what exactly they’re struggling with
D 17. F 18. G 19. C 20. A

38. specially
39. to 40. creations

43. studying
44. responsibility
45. to share
故填a。
故填were selected。
be unique to为固定搭配,意为“对……来说是独特的”,所以此处填to。故填to。
分析句子结构可知,“____6____ she majored in traditional Chinese painting”是非限制性定语从句,先行词是the Xi’an Academy of Fine Arts,关系词在从句中作地点状语,所以用关系副词where引导该定语从句。故填where。
a desire to do sth. 故填to share。

My daughter attended two balls (舞会) a year while she was in high school, sometimes more, so we got many dresses for the balls. After she went off to college, the dresses remained in her closet (壁橱), stored in plastic bags and gathering dust. After graduating from college and returning home, she found herself becoming a popular bridesmaid (伴娘) and she was in many weddings over the years, all requiring that she buy a new formal dress. All those dresses took up precious space in her closet. She could hardly fit her work clothes in there.
When she got her own apartment, she took away the work clothes but left the dresses behind. Worse still, even after she had moved out of the house, new bridesmaid dresses continued to find their way into the closet one by one. I complained about the situation, but the almost new dresses stayed untouched there.
One day, she called me and said she had heard on the radio that a non-profit organization was collecting dresses and accessories (配饰). They were recycling clean, gently used formal dresses and giving them to girls who couldn’t afford to buy formal dresses so they could attend their high school balls wearing beautiful dresses. The organization collected formal dresses and accessories throughout our area. Some of their dresses were donated by local charity shops. Various stores provided make-up, too. The non-profit was also wanting volunteers to help clean, repair and store the dresses.
Hearing the news, I was overjoyed. It was a win-win situation: The organization got the dresses and I was finally able to get my closet back. I thought the program was a wonderful idea.

My closet was finally empty, but that didn’t end my connection with the organization.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
The next day, I couldn’t wait to contact the organization. I eagerly gathered all the dresses from my daughter’s closet, carefully inspecting each one for any damage. After packing them into boxes, I drove to the donation center. The workers there welcomed me warmly and thanked me for the contribution. As I handed over the dresses, I imagined the joy they would bring to girls who otherwise couldn’t afford such beautiful dresses. One worker even shared heartwarming stories of some girls who received the dresses, which made me feel it even more worthwhile to contribute.
My closet was finally empty, but that didn’t end my connection with the organization. Inspired by their mission, I signed up to volunteer, excited to be part of such a meaningful cause. I regularly joined in helping sort and prepare donated dresses for their new owners. I also spread the word among friends, encouraging them to donate or volunteer. Over time, I witnessed countless girls light up with happiness when they got their perfect dresses. What began as a simple closet cleanup turned into a fulfilling journey of making a difference. The organization not only cleared my space but also filled my heart with purpose.

14 What is paragraph 4 mainly about?
A. The adjustment of the astronauts.
B. The solution to the heat shield issues.
C. The safety of engineers in future missions.
D. The failure of entry to the Earth’s atmosphere.
15. What is the NASA administrator’s attitude to the Artemis program?
A. Watchful. B. Uncaring. C. Doubtful. D. Positive.
