I really enjoyed your “Learning English in Tunes” course. It was a refreshing and effective way to learn English. The combination of music and language made learning fun. I could easily remember new words and expressions through catchy songs. Also, it improved my listening skills as I tried to catch every lyric. It’s one of the most interesting English-learning experiences I’ve had. I’m looking forward to more amazing courses from you in the future.
Thank you!

Mark’s eyes widened as he read his paper.“Mark is so humorous. He always makes us laugh," he read one of the comments, his voice trembling slightly. With his cheeks flushing red, Mark read the notes about his strengths with a hint of embarrassment. Never had he expected that his classmates would be so tolerant towards him and even find h is bright spots. So moved was he that tears welled up in his eyes, blurring his vision. To everyone's astonishment, from then on, Mark stopped disrupting the class. Instead, he raised his hand actively to participate in classroom activities, keeping to the rules.
Jane was overjoyed to see Mark again at school after so many years. As soon as Mark spotted Jane, he rushed over.“Sister Jane, you never know how much the comments from my classmates impacted on me. They inspired me to become a better person,” he said earnestly, his eyes shining with gratitude. Jane looked at the confident and sunny young man in front of her, a warm smile spreading across her face. At that moment, she realized that sometimes a single teaching activity could truly change a child. Determined to continue discovering the strengths of her students, Jane felt a renewed sense of purpose in her teaching career.

When I was young, my family treated every vacation as a lesson in culture. We skipped beaches and amusement parks, heading instead to castles, museums, and ancient ruins. I remember being ten, standing before a 500-year-old painting, secretly wishing I were at a swimming pool.
As an adult, I carried on this tradition. When planning trips, I gathered guidebooks, eager to explore every cultural site. I felt it was my duty to absorb as much as possible about the places I visited. This mindset(观念模式)shaped my travels, yet it often made them tense and hurried. I was constantly rushing from one landmark to another, trying to stuff in facts and history, frequently forgetting to simply appreciate the moment.
However, everything changed on a short trip to Bequia, a small island in the Caribbean. I arrived with the usual expectations but soon realized there were no famous museums or historic landmarks to explore. Instead, there were peaceful beaches, calm crystal-clear waters, and warm, welcoming locals. At first, this felt unfamiliar and even disappointing. I grew restless with boredom, struggling to fill my days with the kind of meaningful activities I was used to.
As the days passed, I gradually let go of the need to “do something important.” I began to delight in simple pleasures: reading books purely for enjoyment, wandering along the sandy shore without a plan, and watching the ocean waves roll in without overthinking their meaning. For the first time, I felt truly relaxed. I experienced the quiet joy of simply being present, free from pressure or expectations.
By the end of my stay, I understood something vital: travel doesn’t always have to be about learning or sightseeing. Sometimes, its greatest gift is found in embracing the moment and enabling yourself to experience stillness. I returned home with a fresh insight that true travel is not just about discovering the world outside, but also about uncovering a deeper peace within.
24. How did the author find the travel in his childhood?
A. In line with his interests. B. Centered on family bonds.
C. More like a cultural duty. D. Filled with expectations.
25. Why did the author feel uneasy when he arrived at Bequia?
A. The island was small and crowded.
B. There were no expected landmarks.
C. It was hard to communicate with locals.
D. He hadn’t planned his daily activities in advance.
26. What did the trip to Bequia help the author realize?
A. Short trips bring less comfort. B. Planning ensures perfect vacations.
C. Culture is more powerful than nature. D. True travel includes moments of stillness.
27. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. A Childhood of Cultural Travel. B. The Journey Without a Guidebook.
C. Memories of Museums and Castles. D. The Search for Meaningful Journeys.

By age 14, Dorothy Jean Tillman had obtained an associate’s, bachelor’s and master’s degree. Despite the impressive achievements, Tillman remembers turning to her mother and saying, “I think I want to pursue a doctorate degree.”
Her mother, Jimalita Tillman, was surprised. Dorothy was a year into launching a science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM) camp startup, and she was looking for funding for the organization. She was busy. But after Dorothy explained that her mission was to positively impact young people when it came to their mental health, Jimalita understood and lent her support.
Jimalita said she was proud of her daughter. “I knew what it took for her to go through that. She had to sacrifice (牺牲) a lot. She emerged as a leader without fear, showing them how to tackle online schooling.”
From a young age, Dorothy has been outstanding in her academic pursuits. By age 7, she was already doing high school work. At that point, she started to take college level module (模拟) tests and apply the credits toward higher education.
“It was always mentally difficult to handle, especially at such a young age. When you get out of college, you’re thinking, ‘what do I do next?’ Now I am able to sit in the comfortability of being a teenager and being OK with the fact that I don’t have to figure out what comes next,” Dorothy said.
She studied integrated behavioural health at Arizona State University. For her dissertation (论文), she explored the stigma (耻辱) that prevents university students from getting mental health treatment.
In addition to her school work, Dorothy also devotes her time to running the Dorothy Jeanius STEAM Leadership Institute, which inspires hundreds of underserved young people in Chicago, as well as abroad in countries like Ghana and South Africa, to pursue STEAM careers. A cancer survivor, artist Nico Cathcart understood the anxiety patients experienced as they walked past the concrete wall leading into VCU Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center at the adult outpatient pavilion (门诊馆). Consequently, she said yes last year when asked to paint a mural (壁画) on that very wall. “Everyone who walks through those doors is dealing with something heavy,” said Cathcart, who finished the mural in late November. “I hope it gives them lightness. Cancer is tough, but it can’t take away hope.”
A Toronto native, Cathcart lived in New York before moving to Richmond. When receiving treatment for thyroid cancer, Cathcart found the art hanging on the walls at Massey helped calm her. “I’m hoping this mural will do the same,” she said, noting she’s free of cancer.
Cathcart was diagnosed (诊断) in her mid-twenties with severe hearing loss. While working in public spaces, Cathcart places a sign nearby to let people know she’s deaf in case they attempt to start a conversation. “Sometimes it’s helpful to be deaf. My superpower is that when I need to, I can turn around and face the wall and nothing can disturb me. I get to choose when I’m ready to turn around to interact,” she said.
In the 12-foot-by-30-foot mural, the viewer appears to be looking up from a field of flowers at a bird flying above with a purple ribbon in its mouth. “It’s my attempt of bringing a positive message of upward motion to those who’re looking at it,” Cathcart said. “The mural’s purple ribbon symbolizes all cancer,” said Shockley, manager of arts in health care at VCU Health, adding, “the work of art is lively and hopeful.”
While all of her murals are special in their own way, Cathcart said the mural at Massey will always have an extra special place in her heart. “I was a bit sad finishing it,” she said. “I enjoyed the company of the staff and talking to fellow patients quite a bit. The piece will always be connected personally to my own journey in a way my others might not be.”
32. Why did Cathcart create the mural at Massey?
A. To decorate the wall. B. To promote her own work.
C. To inspire patients. D. To show her artistic skills.
33. What does deafness allow Cathcart to do while working in public spaces?
A. Keep focused. B. Trick people. C. Remain creative. D. Be considerate.
34. What aspect of the mural is paragraph 4 mainly about?
A. Its painter. B. Its moral. C. Its structure. D. Its popularity.
35. What is the main idea of the text?
A. It tells us a cancer survivor’s journey.
B. It introduces a deaf artist’s life.
C. It is mainly about treatment through art,
D. It tells us an artist brings patients hope through murals.
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
Theme park getaways are popular with families, but they sure aren't cheap. Happily there are some golden rules of ticket-buying that apply to pretty much every theme park, and they can help you chip away at the cost of tickets. 36 .
•Buy tickets online.
Never ever pay the walk-up (现场) ticket price at a theme park. 37 . You're guaranteed to save a significant sum-sometimes as much as $20 per ticket-even for same-day tickets.
•Buy in advance.
38 . For instance, Knott's Berry Farm in Buena Park, California, slices off $25 per ticket when you make your purchase at least three days ahead.
• 39 .
This one is a universal no-brainer. Single-day ticket prices at Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio, are about 30 percent less than admission on Saturdays and Sundays. But the big bonus is that lines will be much shorter, allowing you to spend less time waiting in lines and more time having fun.
•Go in the afternoon.
40 . For example, Hersheypark's sunset tickets allow entry after 4 pm or 5 pm, depending on the day. You'll still get between four to six hours of fun before the park closes, and you'll pay up to 50 percent less than the full-day ticket price.
A. Avoid weekends.
B. Buy more tickets than you need.
C. Here are some ways to lower your theme park spending.
D. At larger parks, you'll save money when you buy a package.
E. Instead, visit the theme park website and print out your tickets before you go.
F. Some parks offer deeply discounted tickets for visitors arriving later in the day.
G. Most theme parks offer a price cut if you buy tickets at least a few days before you arrive.

第二节 (满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
When Jane taught the sixth-grade class at Morris School, all 34 of her students were dear to her, while Mark was truly special. He had that happy-to-be-alive attitude that made even his occasional tricks delightful.
Mark talked all the time. Jane reminded him again and again that talking without permission was unacceptable, and his response always sounded sincere: “Thank you for correcting me, Sister!”
One morning, Jane’s patience was growing thin when Mark talked once too often. She looked at Mark and said, “If you say one more word, I'm going to tape(用胶带粘)your mouth shut!” Not even ten seconds passed before someone said, “Mark is talking again.”Having stated the punishment in front of the class, Jane decided she had to act on it. She walked to Mark's desk, tore off two pieces of tape, made a big X with them over his mouth, and then returned to the front of the classroom.
As Jane glanced at Mark to see how he was doing, he winked (眨眼) at her. That did it! Jane started laughing. The entire class cheered as she shook her head and walked back to remove the tape. His first words were, “Thank you for correcting me, Sister.”
One Friday afternoon, after working hard on a new idea all week, the students were getting discouraged and starting to get annoyed with each other. To help lift their spirits and encourage a positive atmosphere, Jane asked them to write down the nicest things about the other students on a piece of paper and hand them in. Mark appeared nervous as if he was worrying his classmates would forget anything nice about him. That Saturday, Jane wrote down each student's name on a separate sheet of paper and listed what everyone else had said about them.
On Monday, Jane gave each student their lists. As the children read them, the classroom was filled with quiet excitement and soft laughter.

When I was young, my family treated every vacation as a lesson in culture. We skipped beaches and
amusement parks, heading instead to castles, museums, and ancient ruins. I remember being ten, standing
before a 500-year-old painting, secretly wishing I were at a swimming pool.
As an adult, I carried on this tradition. When planning trips, I gathered guidebooks, eager to explore
every cultural site. I felt it was my duty to absorb as much as possible about the places I visited. This
mindset(观念模式)shaped my travels, yet it often made them tense and hurried. I was constantly rushing
from one landmark to another, trying to stuff in facts and history, frequently forgetting to simply appreciate
the moment.
However, everything changed on a short trip to Bequia, a small island in the Caribbean. I arrived with
the usual expectations but soon realized there were no famous museums or historic landmarks to explore.
Instead, there were peaceful beaches, calm crystal-clear waters, and warm, welcoming locals. At first, this
felt unfamiliar and even disappointing. I grew restless with boredom, struggling to fill my days with the
kind of meaningful activities I was used to.
As the days passed, I gradually let go of the need to “do something important.” I began to delight in
simple pleasures: reading books purely for enjoyment, wandering along the sandy shore without a plan,
and watching the ocean waves roll in without overthinking their meaning. For the first time, I felt truly
relaxed. I experienced the quiet joy of simply being present, free from pressure or expectations.
By the end of my stay, I understood something vital: travel doesn’t always have to be about learning
or sightseeing. Sometimes, its greatest gift is found in embracing the moment and enabling yourself to
experience stillness. I returned home with a fresh insight that true travel is not just about discovering the
world outside, but also about uncovering a deeper peace within.

Despite
the impressive achievements, Tillman remembers turning to her mother and saying, “I think I want to
pursue a doctorate degree.”
Her mother, Jimalita Tillman, was surprised. Dorothy was a year into launching a science, technology,
engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM) camp startup, and she was looking for funding for the
organization. She was busy. But after Dorothy explained that her mission was to positively impact young
people when it came to their mental health, Jimalita understood and lent her support.
Jimalita said she was proud of her daughter. “I knew what it took for her to go through that. She had
to sacrifice (牺牲 ) a lot. She emerged as a leader without fear, showing them how to tackle online
schooling.”
From a young age, Dorothy has been outstanding in her academic pursuits. By age 7, she was already
doing high school work. At that point, she started to take college level module (模拟) tests and apply the
credits toward higher education.

college, you’re thinking, ‘what do I do next?’ Now I am able to sit in the comfortability of being a teenager
and being OK with the fact that I don’t have to figure out what comes next,” Dorothy said.
She studied integrated behavioural health at Arizona State University. For her dissertation (论文), she
explored the stigma (耻辱) that prevents university students from getting mental health treatment.
In addition to her school work, Dorothy also devotes her time to running the Dorothy Jeanius STEAM
Leadership Institute, which inspires hundreds of underserved young people in Chicago, as well as abroad
in countries like Ghana and South Africa, to pursue STEAM careers. The programme includes guest
speakers and open conversations around each of the five areas of STEAM.

A. She was not surprised and took it for granted.
B. She was in favour of her daughter’s decision

30. What can we infer from the last two paragraphs?
A. Running a startup is challenging. B. Young people favour online schooling.

31. Which of the following can best describe Dorothy?
A. Ambitious and determined. B. Brave and noble-minded.

A cancer survivor, artist Nico Cathcart understood the anxiety patients experienced as they walked
past the concrete wall leading into VCU Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center at the adult outpatient
pavilion (门诊馆). Consequently, she said yes last year when asked to paint a mural (壁画) on that very
wall. “Everyone who walks through those doors is dealing with something heavy,” said Cathcart, who
finished the mural in late November. “I hope it gives them lightness. Cancer is tough, but it can’t take away
hope.”
A Toronto native, Cathcart lived in New York before moving to Richmond. When receiving treatment
for thyroid cancer, Cathcart found the art hanging on the walls at Massey helped calm her. “I’m hoping this
mural will do the same,” she said, noting she’s free of cancer.
Cathcart was diagnosed (诊断) in her mid-twenties with severe hearing loss. While working in public
spaces, Cathcart places a sign nearby to let people know she’s deaf in case they attempt to start a
conversation. “Sometimes it’s helpful to be deaf. My superpower is that when I need to, I can turn around
and face the wall and nothing can disturb me. I get to choose when I’m ready to turn around to interact,”
she said.
In the 12-foot-by-30-foot mural, the viewer appears to be looking up from a field of flowers at a bird
flying above with a purple ribbon in its mouth. “It’s my attempt of bringing a positive message of upward
motion to those who’re looking at it,” Cathcart said. “The mural’s purple ribbon symbolizes all cancer,”
said Shockley, manager of arts in health care at VCU Health, adding, “the work of art is lively and
hopeful.”
While all of her murals are special in their own way, Cathcart said the mural at Massey will always
have an extra special place in her heart. “I was a bit sad finishing it,” she said. “I enjoyed the company of
the staff and talking to fellow patients quite a bit. The piece will always be connected personally to my
own journey in a way my others might not be.”
32. Why did Cathcart create the mural at Massey?
A. To decorate the wall. B. To promote her own work.
C. To inspire patients. D. To show her artistic skills.
33. What does deafness allow Cathcart to do while working in public spaces?
A. Keep focused. B. Trick people. C. Remain creative. D. Be considerate.
34. What aspect of the mural is paragraph 4 mainly about?
A. Its painter. B. Its moral. C. Its structure. D. Its popularity.
35. What is the main idea of the text?
A. It tells us a cancer survivor’s journey.
B. It introduces a deaf artist’s life.
C. It is mainly about treatment through art,
D. It tells us an artist brings patients hope through murals.

第二节(共 5小题;每小题 2.5分,满分 12.5分)
Theme park getaways are popular with families, but they sure aren't cheap. Happily there are some
golden rules of ticket-buying that apply to pretty much every theme park, and they can help you chip away
at the cost of tickets. 36 .
•Buy tickets online.
Never ever pay the walk-up (现场) ticket price at a theme park. 37 . You're guaranteed to save a
significant sum-sometimes as much as $20 per ticket-even for same-day tickets.
•Buy in advance.
38 . For instance, Knott's Berry Farm in Buena Park, California, slices off $25 per ticket when
you make your purchase at least three days ahead.
• 39 .
This one is a universal no-brainer. Single-day ticket prices at Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio, are about
30 percent less than admission on Saturdays and Sundays. But the big bonus is that lines will be much
shorter, allowing you to spend less time waiting in lines and more time having fun.
•Go in the afternoon.
40 . For example, Hersheypark's sunset tickets allow entry after 4 pm or 5 pm, depending on the
day. You'll still get between four to six hours of fun before the park closes, and you'll pay up to 50 percent
less than the full-day ticket price.

When Jane taught the sixth-grade class at Morris School, all 34 of her students were dear to her, while
Mark was truly special. He had that happy-to-be-alive attitude that made even his occasional tricks
delightful.
Mark talked all the time. Jane reminded him again and again that talking without permission was
unacceptable, and his response always sounded sincere: “Thank you for correcting me, Sister!”
One morning, Jane’s patience was growing thin when Mark talked once too often. She looked at Mark
and said, “If you say one more word, I'm going to tape(用胶带粘)your mouth shut!” Not even ten
seconds passed before someone said, “Mark is talking again.”Having stated the punishment in front of the
class, Jane decided she had to act on it. She walked to Mark's desk, tore off two pieces of tape, made a big
X with them over his mouth, and then returned to the front of the classroom.
As Jane glanced at Mark to see how he was doing, he winked (眨眼) at her. That did it! Jane started
laughing. The entire class cheered as she shook her head and walked back to remove the tape. His first
words were, “Thank you for correcting me, Sister.”
One Friday afternoon, after working hard on a new idea all week, the students were getting
discouraged and starting to get annoyed with each other. To help lift their spirits and encourage a positive
atmosphere, Jane asked them to write down the nicest things about the other students on a piece of paper
and hand them in. Mark appeared nervous as if he was worrying his classmates would forget anything nice
about him. That Saturday, Jane wrote down each student's name on a separate sheet of paper and listed
what everyone else had said about them.
On Monday, Jane gave each student their lists. As the children read them, the classroom was filled
with quiet excitement and soft laughter.
