我最爱的传统节日
My favorite Chinese traditional festival is the Double
Ninth Festival. It falls on the ninth day of the ninth lunar
month every year.
People celebrate this festival to show respect for the
elderly and remember ancestors. It’s a time to emphasize
the value of filial piety and family bonds, which are
important in Chinese culture. On this day, families often
climb mountains together, as it’s believed to bring good luck
and longevity. We also eat Chongyang cakes, a kind of
sweet pastry. Many young people visit their grandparents,
giving them gifts or helping with housework. Some
communities hold activities for the elderly, like tea parties
or folk performances.

The Double Ninth Festival teaches us to cherish our
elders, and I always feel warm spending the day with my
family.

英语学习的好方法
Learning English well requires effective methods, and I’ve
found some that work for me.
For listening, I often watch English cartoons and news.
Cartoons with simple language help me get used to
pronunciation, while news broadcasters’ clear speech
improves my ability to catch key information. I also repeat
what I hear, which helps with speaking.Reading is another
key part. I start with short stories and gradually move to
longer articles. When I meet new words, I guess their
meanings first from the context, then check the dictionary.
This way, I remember words better.Writing needs practice
too. I keep a diary in English, writing about my day. At
first, there were many mistakes, but I ask teachers for

help and correct them. Over time, my sentences become
more accurate.
These methods make learning English enjoyable and
effective. Consistency is the most important—sticking to
them brings progress.

I have made progress
Over the three years of junior high, I’ve made great
progress in two aspects.
In interpersonal communication, I used to be too shy to
talk to classmates.
Once, I even avoided group discussions. But with
teachers’ encouragement, I tried to start small talks. Now,
I can easily chat with others and often help classmates
solve problems, having many good friends. In English
learning, I struggled with speaking. I was afraid of making
mistakes. Then I joined the English club, practiced
dialogues every week, and imitated tapes. Now, I can
confidently answer teachers’ questions in class and even talk
with foreign visitors briefly.

These progresses make me believe that as long as I keep
trying, I’ll keep improving.
