W: My guest today is the photographer Alex Mustard, who specializes in underwater shots. His cooperation with Nick Hanna, a master storyteller, resulted in the book entitled The Art of Diving. Alex, how much is luck and how much is judgment to get great shots? M: With wildlife shots, it’s not always the case that you can get the animals to behave in the way you want. When you spend much time in the ocean though, you get to predict behaviors and you get used to knowing when and where you’re going to get particular shots. But often there’s only a second to grab the shot you have in mind, which is the hardest part. With diver shots, communication is tough underwater, so everything needs planning ahead. W: What advice would you give to new underwater photographers? M: Well, the most important thing is to choose your subject very carefully; find something that you can get close to, that’s not going to swim away, and that’s a not too big or too small size. W: So what’s next for you? M: I’m planning a trip to Sardinia-within easy reach of the airport at Olbia. And the water’s lovely and warm But these aren’t really the draws for me. It’s more the underwater landscapes — like the soft corals and the fish life. 18. What is the speaker’s profession most likely? A. An athlete. B. A health care provider. C. A fitness coach. 19. How often should people make a change in their workout plans? A. Every other month. B. Once a month. C. Twice per month. 20. How does the speaker suggest balancing workout intensity per week? A. By planning exercise and rest properly. B. By taking the same workout routine. C. By only engaging in light activities. C 19. B 20. W: Thank you for joining our wellness workshop. I’m Richard Simmons. Before we begin, I want to share some advice. Staying active is essential for a healthy lifestyle, but it’s important to avoid common workout mistakes. The first error is the lack of variety in exercising. Engaging in the same routine can lead you to see no progress. To prevent this, I suggest changing your workout plans monthly. Do diverse activities like yoga to improve flexibility, or weightlifting to build strength. Variety not only prevents boredom but also improves your overall fitness. Another common error is overtraining. It’s important to understand that rest is just as crucial for muscle recovery and growth as the workout itself. It’s not always about the intensity or frequency of your workouts. I recommend aiming for two intense sessions per week. On the days you’re not pushing yourself hard. consider engaging in lighter activities, such as fast walking or leisurely cycling. This approach balances physical effort with recovery. It’s also advisable to have at least one day of complete rest weekly to allow your body to fully recover. Remember, wellness is a marathon; listen to your body and make adjustments accordingly. A Renew San Francisco Zoo Spend a Saturday beautifying the Zoo and create beautiful gardens for both the animals and visitors. One great way to make use of the extra time is to go on an adventure and travel. Clearly, I am not a naturally adventurous person, but I have found that taking the risk and challenging myself to explore and travel to unfamiliar places can be a very rewarding experience. Because I am usually quite busy during the school year, most of my travels take place during the summer. Over the past few summers, I have hiked in the Grand Canyon, explored Niagara Falls, and camped out in update New York. Although these experiences are varied, they are similar in that they instill a sense of appreciation for nature and a more balanced view on life. When I hiked in the Grand Canyon, for example, I was in awe of the geological influences that shaped the canyon. Adventures, of course, are not limited to hiking. There are many other choices, such as camping, volunteering in a foreign environment and travelling to different countries. In my opinion, adventures are more enjoyable with family or a few friends. There is a sense of bonding that one only gets through spending time together in outdoor adventures. For example, when I was in Boy Scouts, I often went on weekend camping trips with my friends. When I came back from a Boy Scouts camping trip, I often was eager to go outside more and explore the parks and nature around me. Next fall, I will attend college. In the meantime though, I hope to make the most of my summer to explore and travel. Now, I am planning on hiking and camping out in Maine. When I visited Maine last fall, I was amazed by how beautiful it was and the tall trees and coasts that exist, and I really hope to enjoy the beauty of nature there this summer. 24. What can we learn from the first paragraph about the author? A. He is an adventurous person by nature. B. He likes challenging himself by travelling. C. He enjoys travelling with other adventurers. D. He needs others’ help when going on an adventure. 25. According to the author, which of the following can make people’s adventure more enjoyable? A. Travelling to different countries. B. Travelling with their family or friends. C. Travelling to unfamiliar places. D. Travelling to distant places. 26. What will the author do this summer? A. Explore Niagara Falls. B. Hike in the Grand Canyons. C. Camp out in update New York. D. Hike and camp out in Maine. 27. Who is probably the author? A. A high school student. B. A college student. C. A friendly guide. D. A warm-hearted teacher. 24. B 25. B 26. D 27. The 8-year-old is the joker of the class. With shining dark eyes, he seems like the kind of kid who would enjoy public speaking. But he’s nervous. “I’m here to tell you today why you should … should…” Chris trips on the “-ld,” a pronunciation difficulty for many non-native English speakers. His teacher, Thomas Whaley, is next to him, whispering support. “…Vote for …me …” Except for some stumbles, Chris is doing amazingly well. When he brings his speech to a nice conclusion, Whaley invites the rest of the class to praise him. A son of immigrants, Chris started learning English a little over three years ago. Whaley recalls (回想起) how at the beginning of the year, when called upon to read, Chris would excuse himself to go to the bathroom. Learning English as a second language can be a painful experience. What you need is a great teacher who lets you make mistakes. “It takes a lot for any student,” Whaley explains, “especially for a student who is learning English as their new language, to feel confident enough to say, ‘I don’t know, but I want to know.’” Whaley got the idea of this second-grade presidential campaign project when he asked the children one day to raise their hands if they thought they could never be a president. The answer broke his heart. Whaley says the project is about more than just learning to read and speak in public. He wants these kids to learn to boast (夸耀) about themselves. “Boasting about yourself, and your best qualities,” Whaley says, “is very difficult for a child who came into the classroom not feeling confident.” 28. What made Chris nervous? A. Telling a story. B. Making a speech. C. Taking a test. D. Answering a question. 29. What does the underlined word “stumbles” in paragraph 2 refer to? A. Improper pauses. B. Bad manners. C. Spelling mistakes. D. Silly jokes. 30. We can infer that the purpose of Whaley’s project is to _________. A. help students see their own strengths B. assess students’ public speaking skills C. prepare students for their future jobs D. inspire students’ love for politics 31. Which of the following best describes Whaley as a teacher? A. Humorous. B. Ambitious. C. Caring. D. Demanding. B 29. A 30. A 31. 根据第一段“today is speech day(今天是演讲日)”和“With shining dark eyes, he seems like the kind of kid who would enjoy public speaking.(他有着明亮的黑眼睛,似乎是那种喜欢公开演讲的孩子。)” 根据第二段““I’m here to tell you today why you should … should…” Chris trips on the “-ld,” a pronunciation difficulty for many non-native English speakers.(“我今天在这里告诉你为什么你应该……应该……”克里斯说到了“-ld”,这是许多非英语母语人士的发音困难。)”可知,他发ld困难,故推知是他有些结巴,停顿不准确,stumbles的意思是“不适当的停顿”,即Improper pauses,故选A。 【30题详解】 推理判断题。根据倒数第二段“Whaley says the project is about more than just learning to read and speak in public. He wants these kids to learn to boast (夸耀) about themselves.(威利说,这个项目不仅仅是学习在公众面前阅读和说话。他想让这些孩子学会自我吹嘘。)”以及最后一段““Boasting about yourself, and your best qualities,” Whaley says, “is very difficult for a child who came into the classroom not feeling confident.”(“吹嘘自己和自己最好的品质,”威利说,“对于一个走进教室却不自信的孩子来说是非常困难的。”)” 根据倒数第二段“Whaley got the idea of this second-grade presidential campaign project when he asked the children one day to raise their hands if they thought they could never be a president.(威利的这个二年级总统竞选项目的灵感来自于他有一天让孩子们举起手,如果他们认为自己永远不会成为总统。)”和“He wants these kids to learn to boast (夸耀) about themselves.(他想让这些孩子学会自我吹嘘。)” C。 D We humans love to stare into our smart devices. We gaze for hours — about 10 hours and 39 minutes a day — at our computers, smartphones, tablets and televisions. Is all this staring bad for us? It might be mainly because as we stare at our devices we are exposing ourselves to blue light. Blue light is a type of electromagnetic (电磁的) radiation with a very short wavelength that produces a high amount of energy. While it’s true that light can damage our eyes under certain circumstances, there’s no scientific evidence suggesting that blue light is harmful to our eyes. But many people still think it is, which is why blue-light-blocking glasses are so popular. So do the glasses work? “Everyone is very concerned that blue light may be causing damage to the eye, but there’s no evidence that it may be causing serious damage,” Dr. Rahul Khurana, clinical spokesman for the American Academy of Ophthalmology, told Business Insider. Blue light exposure is nothing new. In fact, the sun is the largest source of blue light. Moreover, blue light is also present in LED light. But if blue light isn’t harmful, then why are we constantly rubbing our eyes when we’re looking at our screens? The answer is eyestrain (眼疲劳): More than 60 percent of people experience eye problems associated with digital eyestrain. And blue light, it seems, isn’t the cause. Instead, our eyes are so strained because most of us blink less when we stare at our digital devices. So if eyestrain is the issue, blue-light-blocking glasses are probably of little use. 32. What do we know about blue light? A. It is a kind of nuclear radiation. B. It has the shortest wavelength. C. It may come from electronic devices. D. It consumes a great deal of energy. 33. What causes the popularity of blue-light-blocking glasses? A. Evidence of their benefits to eyes. B. Belief in blue light’s harmful effect. C. Widespread use of smart devices. D. Scientific understanding of blue light. 34. What can be inferred from Paragraph 4? A. Blue light exposure is hardly avoidable. B. Eye problems are not easy to deal with. C. Blue light may connect with tired eyes. D. Rubbing eyes makes people strained. 35. According to the text wearing blue-light-blocking glasses may be ______. A. tiring B. harmful C. useless D. beneficial 【答案】32. C 33. B 34. A 35. 根据第一段中“It might be mainly because as we stare at our devices we are exposing ourselves to blue light.(这可能主要是因为当我们盯着我们的设备时,我们将自己暴露在蓝光中)”和第二段中“Blue light is a type of electromagnetic(电磁的) radiation with a very short wavelength that produces a high amount of energy.(蓝光是一种波长很短的电磁辐射,能产生大量的能量)”可推知,蓝光可能来自电子设备。 根据第二段中“While it’s true that light can damage our eyes under certain circumstances, there’s no scientific evidence suggesting that blue light is harmful to our eyes. Moreover, blue light is also present in LED light.(暴露在蓝光下并不是什么新鲜事。事实上,太阳是最大的蓝光来源。此外,蓝光也存在于LED灯中)”可知,从第四段可以推断出蓝光照射几乎是不可避免的。故选A项。 根据最后一段中“So if eyestrain is the issue, blue-light-blocking glasses are probably of little use.(因此,如果问题是眼睛疲劳,那么防蓝光眼镜可能没什么用)”可知,戴防蓝光眼镜可能是无用的。 It is believed that it’s dangerous to have plants in the bedroom. Plants take in carbon dioxide (CO₂) and produce oxygen (氧气) in the day. ____36____. The build-up of CO₂ is a real problem for indoor air quality, which has been shown to influence health, so it is easy to see where the concern comes from. But to consider whether sharing our bedroom with our plants can harm health, we should consider three things. Firstly, how much CO₂ do plants produce at night compared with what they take in during the day? ____37____ For the answer depends on everything from species to light levels and even room temperature. Thankfully, in 2015, researchers at Turkey’s Kastamonu University found that large houseplants take in between six and eight times as much CO2 in the day as they produce at night. ____38____ A single human breath contains around 40, 000 ppm of CO2, more than 10 times the effect a plant could have in 8 hours, so you might want to throw your partner out before your plants. Finally, we don’t live in the sealed (密封的) boxes in which these studies are carried out. ____39____ The air is even exchanged when we move around. According to one recent review, we need houseplants to keep indoor air fresh, and to fight some pollution. ____40____ Let’s enjoy houseplants whenever we like, because if sleeping near plants were bad for our health, camping in a forest would be deadly. A. This is hard to answer. B. So, they are quite necessary. C. The question has more than one answer. D. Besides, we often share a room with someone else. E. Indoor air is being exchanged through doors and windows. F. At night they compete with us for the air we breathe while asleep. G. Secondly, compare the influence of a plant with that of a person sharing a room. 36. F 37. A 38. G 39. E 40. Plants take in carbon dioxide (CO₂) and produce oxygen (氧气) in the day.(人们认为卧室里有植物是危险的。植物在白天吸收二氧化碳(CO₂)并产生氧气)”及后文“The build-up of CO₂ is a real problem for indoor air quality, which has been shown to influence health, so it is easy to see where the concern comes from.(二氧化碳的积累是影响健康的室内空气质量的真正问题,因此很容易看出担忧的来源)”可知,空处描述人们认为卧室夜间摆放植物危害的原因,F选项“在晚上,它们与我们争夺我们睡觉时呼吸的空气”解释原因。故选F项。 【37题详解】 空前“Firstly, how much CO₂ do plants produce at night compared with what they take in during the day? 后文“For the answer depends on everything from species to light levels and even room temperature.(因为答案取决于各种因素,从物种到光照水平,甚至是室温)”可知,这个问题是难以回答的,A选项“这个问题很难回答”符合语境。故选A项。 【38题详解】 根据前文firstly,后文finally及后文“A single human breath contains around 40, 000 ppm of CO2, more than 10 times the effect a plant could have in 8 hours, so you might want to throw your partner out before your plants.(一个人的呼吸中含有大约40000ppm的二氧化碳,是一株植物在8小时内释放的二氧化碳的10倍以上,所以你可能想在你的植物之前把你的伴侣扔出去)”可知,该空应讲第二点,且把植物和人作比较,G选项“其次,比较一棵植物和一个人共用一个房间的影响”符合语境,引起下文。故选G项。 【39题详解】 前文“Finally, we don’t live in the sealed (密封的) boxes in which these studies are carried out.(最后,我们并不生活在进行这些研究的密封盒子里)”及后文“The air is even exchanged when we move around.(当我们走动时,空气也在交换)”可知,E选项“室内空气通过门窗进行交换”表明与植物对比,人的生活空间与外界相连,没有处在研究实验条件下,空气是流通的,且解释下一句。故选E项。 【40题详解】 根据前文“According to one recent review, we need houseplants to keep indoor air fresh, and to fight some pollution.(根据最近的一篇综述,我们需要室内植物来保持室内空气新鲜,并对抗一些污染)”可知,植物对我们是重要的,B选项“所以,它们是非常必要的”中they指代植物,符合前文语境。 About six months ago, I joined a gym. It is not a question that can be answered by words, but by the real deed. A boy with the name Tom gave us a good example. Tom and John were two friends in the same class. They always played together and went home together. One day as Tom and John were going home after school, they saw some people fighting on the street corner. Tom said excitedly, “Some people are fighting! Let’s go and have a look!” But John refused. “It’s none of our business. We’d better go home and don’t get close to them. Also our parents are expecting to have dinner with us together at home and I don’t want them to worry about me.” “You are a coward(胆小鬼), and afraid to go”, said Tom, and off he ran to the spot with some other boys. John had to go home alone and didn’t think about it anymore. But Tom thought John was a co ward and told all the boys that. They laughed at him a great deal. From then on, they looked down upon John and didn’t want to play with him. John was sad but he wasn’t angry with Tom for his rude behavior, because he had learned that true courage was shown most in bearing misunderstanding when it was not deserved, and that he ought to be afraid of nothing but doing wrong. Thus, he just ignored the other boys’ laughter and continued to stick to his thought and go to school and study as usual. However, Tom didn’t invite John to go home with him anymore. Instead, he had his new friends who also thought John was a coward. Every day after school, Tom and his new friends didn’t go home directly but went to bathe in the river nearby and had lots of fun. Paragraph 1: A few days later, something terrible happened to Tom. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: At that moment, John happened to pass by. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 A few days later, something terrible happened to Tom. That afternoon after school, Tom was bathing with some of his new friends in the river happily. Suddenly, he was stuck by something and couldn't get out. He struggled hard but he was still trapped. He screamed for help, but all in vain. The boys who had called John a coward got out of the water as fast as they could. They were so scared and did not even try to help him. At that moment, John happened to pass by. He heard the screams and ran to the river as soon as possible. Seeing Tom was almost drowned, John took off his clothes immediately and jumped into the water without any hesitation. He reached Tom just as he was sinking for the last time. With great effort, he brought Tom to the shore in time. John was happy to help his friend, though he was extremely tired. What John did taught us a lesson about what is really brave. From then on, all the children haven’t made fun of John. 词汇激活 行为类 ①挣扎:struggle/fight ②尖叫:scream/shout ③脱下:take off/remove ④跳入:jump into/dive into 情绪类 ①开心地:happily/amusedly ②害怕的:scared/frightened ③快乐的:happy/joyful 【点睛】【高分句型1】The boys who had called John a coward got out of the water as fast as they could. C For Canaan Elementary’s second grade in Patchogue, N.Y., today is speech day, and right now it’s Chris Palaez’s turn. A. Humorous. B. Ambitious. C. Caring. D. Demanding. D We humans love to stare into our smart devices. A. tiring B. harmful C. useless D. beneficial It is believed that it’s dangerous to have plants in the bedroom. G. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $现在是听力试音时间。Hello, international friends club, can I help you?
