At just 18 years old, Khalifa Aminu from Kano, Nigeria, has proved himself as an amazing inventor, with his sensory glasses designed to help the visually impaired (视障人士).
The glasses are equipped with infrared sensors (红外线传感器) that can “see” obstacles in the user’s path, warning them about possible dangers without the need for traditional walking sticks or guide dogs. In their current form, the glasses let out a beeping sound when an object is nearby, helping users move past it safely. Aminu is now working on making the glasses even more effective, particularly in low-light and nighttime conditions.
Aminu’s journey into the world of invention began in childhood. He started small, building a rowboat as his first project, and quickly realized that his creations could be used to solve real-world problems in his community. This love for invention has led him to create various innovations such as a radio station, a bomb detector and an automatic water sprayer for farmers.
As for the inspiration for his latest creation, Aminu explained, “I grew up in an area where there are visually impaired people, and I understand what they’re going through. This is why I began the process for a technology-based solution for them.”
The glasses have received positive feedback from testing. In a recent experiment, a blind man was highly impressed by their effectiveness. “He suggested several improvements, like a wireless switch, smaller parts, and lenses for better usability,” Aminu explained. “These suggestions will be carried out in future versions, but the challenge remains the lack of materials and resources for further development.”
Luckily, in June, Aminu’s invention caught the attention of Nigeria’s National Commission for Persons with Disabilities, suggesting a bright future for him in further innovation and mass production.
“My ultimate dream is to build a global company that continues to develop innovative solutions not only for Nigeria but for the world,” said Aminu.
4. What is the function of the infrared sensors in the sensory glasses?
A. To help the users see the obstacles in the users’ path clearly.
B. To warn the users of the possible dangers on the way.
C To replace the guide dogs completely.
D. To provide visual images of the surroundings for the user.
5. Which words can best describe Aminu?
A. Generous and devoted. B. Considerate and responsible.
C. Creative and warm-hearted. D. Talented and humorous.
6. Why does the author mention the blind man in paragraph 5?
A. To introduce a recent experiment. B. To call for further development.
C. To provide practical suggestions. D. To illustrate the effectiveness.
7. What is the author’s purpose in writing this text?
A. To explain the working principle of Aminu’s sensory glasses.
B. To honor an outstanding young man and his invention.
C. To share an inspiring story of an inventor and his newest invention.
D. To recommend a story of how Aminu invented the sensory glasses.

In 2016, China made April 24 Space Day to celebrate its space achievements. The country’s commercial space journey progressed quickly in November 2024 when the Long March 12 rocket was successfully sent into space from the Hainan Commercial Space Launch Site in Wenchang. This important event showed that China had finished building its whole commercial space industry chain, including making satellites, launch services, and data applications.
Commercial space means activities in space technology that are driven by the market, aiming to make profits through launches and services. Globally, the U.S. is the leader in this field. In 2023, the world’s space economy made $400 billion, and commercial satellites accounted for 71% ($285 billion). Private companies like SpaceX helped the U.S. stay ahead with creative methods in making reusable rockets and satellite internet (Starlink). The U.S. also leads in space investment, securing 51% of the world’s money put into space projects.
China entered commercial space later but has gained momentum. Since announcing Long March rockets for international launches in 1985, its market scale has sharply risen from 0.6 trillion yuan ($82 billion) in 2018 to 1.9 trillion yuan in 2023, growing 23% per year. Government support has helped this growth: commercial space was called a “new growth engine” in China’s 2024 government report, and Hainan province has set up platforms for rocket recovery technology.
The Hainan launch site is a game-changer. Its No. 2 launch pad (发射台), designed for medium-sized liquid-fuel rockets, enables high-frequency, cost-effective launches with rapid turnaround times. The Long March 12 rocket, China’s first 3.8-meter-diameter vehicle, uses a design that breaks it into parts to make it better at carrying things and cheaper. A key innovation (创新) is its way of putting the rocket together and moving it while it’s lying down. This gets rid of the need for tall buildings to assemble (组装) the rockets, cuts down on work done high up, and improves efficiency.
Looking ahead, China plans to launch many satellites in low -Earth orbits to give broadband internet to the whole world. With continuous breakthroughs in reusable rocket technology and simpler launch processes, the country is on track to become a major player of the global space economy by 2025, finding a good balance between innovation and commercial possibility.
8. What may contribute to the U.S.’s leading place in the commercial space field?
A. A complete commercial space industry chain. B. High government funding for space projects.
C. Market-driven profitable activities. D. The establishment of Space Day.
9. What does the underlined phrase “gained momentum” in paragraph 3 mean?
A. Advanced rapidly B. Sped suddenly C. Progressed gradually D. Changed completely
10. Why is the Hainan launch site called a game-changer?
A. Intended to launch China’s biggest rockets. B. Having creative and efficient technical advantages.
C. Able to conduct many launches quickly and costly. D. Using a traditional system for rocket assembly.
11. What does the author imply in the last paragraph?
A. China has the most advanced reusable rocket technology.
B. China has launched many satellites for global broadband.
C. China aims to make both breakthroughs and profits
D. China aims to lead the global economy by 2025
D
In the era of globalization today, different cultures are interacting more than ever before. While this has brought about many positive exchanges, it has also put some unique cultures at risk. Anthropologists-scientists who study human race, and cultural preservationists are working hard to protect cultural practices that are in danger of disappearing.
“Globalization has led to more uniform cultures in some aspects,” said Dr. Elena Rodriguez, a leading anthropologist at the University of Cambridge. “Popular culture, driven by media and the internet, often overshadows local and traditional cultures. We need to understand the possible effects of this trend and find ways to preserve the cultural heritage that makes each community unique.”
Using a vast database of cultural practices from around the world, Dr. Rodriguez and her team studied how cultural traditions are passed down through generations and how they adapt to modern influences. They discovered some cultural practices are more adaptable than others. For example, traditional festivals with strong community participation tend to survive better, while some niche (小众的) handicraft-making skills are at risk of being lost due to a lack of younger generations interested in learning them.
Another significant factor affecting cultural diversity is urbanization (城市化). As people move from rural areas to cities, they often leave behind some of their traditional ways of life. “In urban environments, there is a tendency to adopt more mainstream cultural standards,” said Dr. Rodriguez. “This doesn’t mean rural cultures are not good, but rather that the pull of modern urban living can weaken the uniqueness of traditional cultures.”
So, what can be done to protect cultural diversity? “Education is key,” Dr. Rodrigueznoted. “By teaching younger generations about the value of their cultural heritage in schools, we can develop a sense of pride and responsibility. Cultural institutions can also play a crucial role. Museums, for instance, can showcase traditional artifacts and stories, making them accessible to a wider audience.”
Moreover, governments and international organizations can support cultural preservation projects. This can include providing funding for cultural festivals, promoting local languages, and protecting historical sites. Cultural tourism projects can be designed to introduce people to lesser-known cultural traditions all over the world.
12. What effects does globalization have on cultures nowadays?
A. It has little impact on cultures. B. It brings about a mixed bag.
C. It has more positive effects. D. It contributes to traditional cultures.
13. What does Dr. Rodriguez’s study mainly focus on?
A. How cultural traditions are influenced and changed.
B. How traditional festivals are celebrated and preserved.
C. How cultural traditions are handed down and survive.
D. How handicraft making skills are taught and learned.
14. How can cultural institutions make a difference to the protection of cultural diversity?
A. They can provide funding for cultural festivals. B. They can teach local languages in schools.
C. They can design cultural tourism projects. D. They can expose the audience to items and stories.
15. What is a suitable title for the text?
A. Protecting Cultural Diversity: a Global Mission
B. Understanding Traditional Cultures: a Basic Requirement
C. Observing traditional Festivals: a Wide Participation
D. Preserving Cultural Diversity: an Overall Urbanization

On a hot summer afternoon, I was buried in my math review at home, so focused that I almost forgot the time. When I finally glanced at the wall clock, my eyes widened in horror-it was already 2:40 pm, and I’d promised to meet Tina, my best friend, at 3:00 pm, at Green Forest Community, which was a 15-minute drive away. I grabbed my backpack, stuffed in my review notes, and rushed out of the door, only to realize that I’d left my phone on the desk. “I’m going to be late! There is no time left to go back for my mobile phone. There should be enough cash in my bag.” I thought, bounding down the stairs three at a time.
On the street, I hurriedly waved at a passing taxi. The driver, a middle-aged man with several silver hair and weathered skin, pulled over smoothly. I hopped in, saying, “Sir, please go to Green Forest Community as quickly as possible!” He nodded, looking at me in the back mirror (后视镜). “You seem to be in a hurry,” he remarked kindly. I explained to him that I was almost late for a study session. He nodded his head again while driving quickly and steadily.
As the taxi drove through the streets, he shared that he’d been a driver for over a decade, working long hours to support his family. During college and high school entrance exams, he volunteered to offer free rides to students, a tradition he’d kept for five years. “My license number has number 678 in it, which represents being admitted,” he said proudly. I noticed a sticker on his dashboard (仪表板), saying “Free Rides for test-takers - Just Ask.”
When we arrived at the community gate, he stopped the car and the meter ticked 25 yuan. I searched through my backpack and found there was no money at all, my heart pounding with panic.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Sensing my dilemma, the driver said gently, “Don’t worry about it. Just go and study.”

D. China aims to lead the global economy by 2025
【答案】8. C 9. A 10. B 11. C

【答案】12. B 13. C 14. D 15. A

I’m writing to express my preference for “Honesty” as the theme of the “Virtues” column. Honesty is the foundation of all relationships. When we’re honest, people trust us, which helps build strong friendships and partnerships.
In school, an honest student is respected by teachers and classmates. In society, an honest person is more likely to succeed as they gain the trust of others. It also reflects one’s good character and moral values.

47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

1. 续写词数应为150个左右;

10 minutes later, I hurried back with Tina as I promised, only to find the driver had left
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】Sensing my dilemma, the driver said gently, “Don’t worry about it. Just go and study.” So surprised was I that I was unable to say anything. After thinking for a while, I figured out how to solve the problem. First, I expressed my apology, then thanked him with appreciation, and finally promised that I would be back soon with my friend Tina. He smiled kindly, reminded me of the heat and let me hurry into the building. A wave of relief swept over me, which made me set off at a brisk (轻快的) pace. Upon arrival at Tina’s home, I explained everything.
10 minutes later, I hurried back with Tina as I promised, only to find the driver had left. Staring at the empty road, I asked Tina, “How could I repay his kindness?” Tina suggested sharing the story on social media, including his license plate number “678”. Fortunately, the post went viral with many comments praising him. One girl who had enjoyed the free ride told us that the driver was her neighbour. When meeting him again, I handed him not only 25 yuan but also a thank-you card, my heart filled with gratitude. What was of significance was the act of kindness would never be forgotten.
