Lead-in 1. Enjoy the song and try to fill in the blanks with the past forms of some verbs. 2. Think about the T’s questions. 3. Talk about their activities on a special day. Invite some Ss to make conversations about their special days. Provide the example first. Sa: What did you do last weekend? Sb: I went to a science museum last weekend. Sa: Did you see anything interesting? Sb: ... Step 2. Grammar 1. Read the sentences in the grammar box in 3a. Circle the verbs in the simple past tense. Then underline the time expressions for the past. 2.Work with their group members and have a conclusion about the simple past tense. Report their results. 3. Learn to change the verbs into their past forms. Step 3. Practice 1.Ask Ss to finish activity 3b. Put the words in order. Write the sentences using the correct tenses. Guide Ss to find out the time expressions first and think about the past form of the verbs. 2. Complete the passage with the correct forms of the verbs in the box in 3c. 3. Ss answer the questions: (1) When did Teng Fei go on a school trip? Last week. (2) Where did he go? He went to Jinggangshan. (3) What did he do on a school trip? He learnt about important people like Mao Zedong and Zhu De. He saw many things such as old photos, paintings, and guns. He walked along the mountain roads and thought about the past. (4) Did he learn anything? What did he learn? Yes, he did. Many people back then worked hard to create what we have today. Step 4. Summary Let the students summarize the key knowledge in the lesson by themselves. Step 5. Homework  (1) Make 5 dialogues with your partner like 3d. (2) Draw some pictures of activities and describe them by using the present continuous tense.
