Today, we are going to embark on an important journey in our English class. We are diving into Unit 2, which is all about Wildlife Protection. As we all know, our planet is home to a rich variety of wonderful creatures. But, unfortunately, many of them are in great danger. Now, I want you to take a moment and think about what comes to your mind when you hear the words "wildlife protection". (Pause for a few seconds) Maybe some of you think of cute pandas, majestic elephants, or graceful whales. Well, let's start our class by looking at some pictures and discussing what we see. (T shows some pictures of endangered animals on the screen, such as a panda, an elephant, and a blue whale) T: Alright, let's begin with the panda. Who can tell me something about pandas? S1: Pandas are very cute. They are black and white and mainly live in bamboo forests in China. But their numbers are getting smaller because their habitats are being destroyed. T: Excellent answer! You are quite right. Pandas are indeed facing the problem of habitat loss. Now, what about the elephant? Any thoughts? S2: Elephants are very big and intelligent animals. They are hunted for their ivory, which is really sad. T: That's true. Illegal hunting for ivory is a major threat to elephants. And the blue whale? S3: Blue whales are the largest animals on Earth. They are hunted for their meat and oil, and also, ocean pollution is harming them. T: Well done, everyone. As you can see, these amazing animals, and many others, are in a tough situation. So, today we are going to learn more about why wildlife is in danger and what we can do to help through our listening and speaking activities. 听力前准备 T: Before we start listening, let's take a look at some posters. These posters are related to our topic of wildlife protection. (Shows three posters on the screen) (T points to the first poster which shows a clock with a tiger at 11 o'clock position and a dead man with a gun at 12 o'clock position, and many dead animals) T: Look at this first poster. What can you observe? Discuss in pairs and share your thoughts. (Students discuss in pairs for a while) S4: There's a clock, and there are some dead animals. It seems like time is running out for the animals. T: Great observation. What do you think the clock and the dead animals symbolize? S5: Maybe it means that if we don't stop doing something bad to the animals, they will all die out, just like the time is passing on the clock. T: Exactly! This poster is warning us that many animals are dying out because of illegal hunting. If we don't stop it, we human beings may be the next ones to face bad consequences. So, the message is to shoot animals with a camera, not a gun. (T moves on to the second poster which is a sandclock with the words "150 - 200 wildlife species lost every 24 hours", some extinct animals on the bottom, and the word "lost" falling) T: Now, look at the second poster. What does it show? S6: It's a sandclock, and it says 150 - 200 wildlife species are lost every 24 hours. That's so many! T: Right. This is really an alarming number. What does this poster want to convey to us? S7: It wants us to pay attention to how serious the situation is. So many species are disappearing every day, and we need to do something to stop it. T: Absolutely. This poster is calling on us to take immediate action to protect wildlife. (T then shows the third poster with a big bowl of shark fin soup, a dying shark with its fin cut down, and more sharks on a spoon, and the words "Up to 73 million sharks end up in shark fin soup each year") T: Let's look at the last poster. What can you see here? S8: There's a bowl of shark fin soup and sharks. It's really cruel. T: Yes, it is. Up to 73 million sharks end up in shark fin soup each year. What message does this poster carry? S9: It wants us to protect wildlife by refusing shark fin soup. What we drink is not just soup but the lives of sharks. T: Very good. So, from these three posters, we can clearly see that many wildlife species are in danger of extinction, and it's time for us to save or preserve them before they die out. Now, let's move on to our first listening part. 听力一 T: Listen carefully to the first part of the conversation. While listening, try to fill in the blanks on your handouts. (Plays the first part of the listening material) (T shows the sentences on the screen: Our planet's _______ is dying out at an alarming rate. Between 150 and 200 species are becoming _______ every day. This mass extinction is caused by hunting, habitat _______, and pollution. We must make people aware of the problem and help _______ the endangered wildlife before it's too late!) T: Okay, time's up. Let's check the answers. Who can tell me what the first blank should be? S10: The first blank should be "wildlife". T: Correct. Our planet's wildlife is indeed dying out at an alarming rate. What about the second blank? S11: The second blank is "extinct". T: Right. Between 150 and 200 species are becoming extinct every day. It's really a huge number. Now, the third blank? S12: The third blank is "loss". T: That's it. This mass extinction is caused by hunting, habitat loss, and pollution. And the last blank? S13: The last blank is "protect". T: Perfect. We must make people aware of the problem and help protect the endangered wildlife before it's too late. Now, let's listen to this part again and follow along with the text on the screen. Try to understand the details of the conversation. (Plays the first part of the listening material again) T: Now, let's have a closer look at this conversation. Who can retell the conversation in their own words? S14: A and B are talking about a poster with a clock. They say that many wild animals are dying out, like 150 - 200 species every day. They think the reasons are hunting, pollution, and habitat loss. And they believe more people should know about this problem and make more posters to help protect the wildlife. T: Very good retelling! You got all the main points. Now, let's think about this. Why do you think it's important to make people aware of the problem of wildlife extinction? Discuss in groups of four. (Students discuss in groups for a few minutes) T: Okay, let's hear from some groups. Group 1, would you like to share your ideas? Group 1 representative: If people are aware of the problem, they will stop doing things that harm wildlife, like illegal hunting. Also, they can support wildlife protection organizations and help spread the word. T: Great ideas. Group 2, what do you think? Group 2 representative: When people are aware, they can change their daily habits. For example, they can reduce pollution, which will help the habitats of wild animals. T: That's true. Awareness can lead to positive actions. Group 3? Group 3 representative: If more people know about it, there will be more public pressure on the government to make stricter laws to protect wildlife. T: Excellent point. As you can see, making people aware is the first step towards protecting our precious wildlife. 听力二 T: Now, we are going to listen to the second part of the listening material. This part is about some famous people who are speaking up for endangered animals. Listen carefully and answer the two questions on your handouts. (Plays the second part of the listening material) (T shows the questions on the screen: 1. How many elephants are killed on average every day? 2. What did Prince William say about China?) T: Alright, let's answer the questions. First, how many elephants are killed on average every day? S15: 54 elephants are killed on average every day. T: Correct. It's really a tragic number. Now, what did Prince William say about China? S16: Prince William said that he is absolutely convinced that China can become a global leader in the protection of wildlife. T: That's right. China has indeed made a lot of efforts in wildlife protection. Now, let's listen to this part again and take some notes about what else is mentioned. (Plays the second part of the listening material again) T: Now, let's share our notes. Who can tell me some other important information from this part? S17: It mentioned that in the 33 years since Prince William was born, around 70 percent of Africa's elephant population has been lost. T: Good. That shows how serious the situation of African elephants is. Any other information? S18: It said that some famous people like Yao Ming and Prince William are working hard to help endangered animals. T: Right. Their influence can attract more people's attention to wildlife protection. Now, let's think about this. What can we, as students, do to be the voice of wildlife protection in our area, just like Yao Ming and Prince William? Discuss in groups. (Students discuss in groups) T: Okay, let's hear your ideas. Group 4, please share. Group 4 representative: We can make posters about wildlife protection and put them up around our school to let more students know. T: That's a great idea. Posters can be very eye - catching. Group 5? Group 5 representative: We can organize a small speech in our community to tell people about the importance of protecting wildlife. T: Wonderful. Spreading knowledge through speeches can be quite effective. Group 6? Group 6 representative: We can start a club at school to raise money for wildlife protection organizations. T: That's also a very practical way. By raising money, we can directly support the protection work. 口语练习 T: Now, it's time for our speaking practice. I will divide you into pairs. Each pair will choose one endangered animal. You need to talk about what you know about this animal, why it is endangered, and what can be done to protect it. You can use the information we learned today and your own knowledge. I will give you 10 minutes to prepare, and then some pairs will come to the front to share your conversations. (Students form pairs and start preparing) (T walks around the classroom, offering help and guidance) T: Time's up. Which pair would like to come to the front and share your conversation? Pair 1, please. Pair 1: S19: We chose the Tibetan antelope. We know that the Tibetan antelope is a precious wild animal in China. It is endangered mainly because of illegal hunting. People hunt them for their soft and valuable wool. S20: To protect the Tibetan antelope, the government has set up many nature reserves. Also, more strict laws should be made to punish those who hunt them illegally. And we can tell more people about the importance of protecting the Tibetan antelope, so they won't buy products made from its wool. T: Very good conversation. You covered all the important aspects. Pair 2, your turn. Pair 2: S21: We talked about the polar bear. Polar bears are in danger because of global warming. The ice in the Arctic is melting, which is their main habitat. They need the ice to hunt seals and rest. S22: To help polar bears, we need to reduce carbon emissions to slow down global warming. Also, we can support organizations that are working to protect the Arctic environment. And we can educate people about how our daily actions, like using too much energy, can affect polar bears. T: Excellent job. You clearly explained the problem and the solutions. 课堂总结 T: Today, we had a very meaningful class. We learned a lot about wildlife protection through listening and speaking. We found out that many wild animals are in danger due to hunting, habitat loss, pollution, and other reasons. We also learned that some famous people are working hard to protect them, and we, as students, can also do our part. Remember, change begins with you. Every small action we take can make a difference in protecting our precious wildlife. For homework, I want you to write a short passage about an endangered animal you are interested in. Include what you learned today and your own thoughts on how to protect it. That's all for today's class. Thank you, everyone! 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
