She has also donated a sum of money to another local charity to buy woodchips for their community garden. “It can sometimes seem a little intimidating choosing where to start with recycling but with every small step, it gets that little bit easier” she said. “I definitely think it has helped to raise awareness among my children about the need to recycle more too.” 4. Led by Xijiajia, tech company Baidu Inc’s virtual spokesperson, they presented the latest clothes by homegrown sportswear maker Anta Sports in different virtual scenarios (场景)-stadiums, snowfields, the Gobi Desert and even outer space. Li Shiyan, head of Baidu’s digital human and robotics section, said that technologies, the production cost of virtual clothing has been reduced dramatically, and production periods shortened from more than one month to just a week. “The virtual human industry is still in an early stage, and there are some challenges, such as how to produce low-cost digital assets and digital content, and how to make digital humans interact with real people more naturally, “Li said. The size of China’s virtual human market is forecast to reach 270 billion yuan by 2030. According to experts, the fashion landscape is rapidly expanding its virtual horizon to prepare for a future populated by digital avatars, and the most accessible way for fashion brands to engage with virtual replicas is by dressing them in their latest collections. “Holding virtual fashion shows doesn’t just mean moving real-world shows online. More importantly, we can use digital space to expand our understanding of fashion and imagination for what is possible,“ said Chen Duan. For example, people can make use of textures that do not exist in the physical world, and digital humans are able to go beyond the biological limits of real humans and present new fashion styles in new ways. “Digital humans are increasingly being used in brand promotion, advertisement, livestreaming, gaming and entertainment,” said Zhu Xiaowen, an analyst. However, she added that a new set of problems have also emerged, such as personal privacy protection and data security. She said unregulated use of digital humans might open a way for fraud, given that digital humans can be difficult to distinguish from real people. 8. C. to make ads for sportswear maker Anta Sports. D. to describe the work of some digital models. 9. What is one of the challenges of the virtual human industry? A. They explore more possibilities for fashion. 11. What does Zhu Xiaowen stress about digital humans? A. the potential harm they do. B. their bright future in the fashion world. C. the need of their personal privacy. D. their betraying to real people. D A good shower can relax not only your body but also your mind, unleashing (释放) streams of consciousness (意识流) and creativity. Research shows that what is known as the “shower effect” also can occur outside the shower, and many of our best thoughts don’t happen at work or school — but occur while going about our days with ideas incubating (酝酿) in the background. In a study, 98 professional writers and 87 physicists recorded their most creative ideas each day, as well as what they were doing and thinking when it struck them. While most of the ideas occurred at work, 20 percent of their most meaningful ideas came while doing something else—washing dishes or taking a shower. Notably, the ideas the writers and physicists had away from their jobs were self-assessed to be just as creative and important as the ones they had at work. However, the shower effect on creativity is the product of mind-wandering, where your thoughts are anywhere but on the task at hand. Historically, researchers focused on the negative effects of mind-wandering, which can disrupt (扰乱) performance and have been associated with unhappiness. But the nature of the mind-wandering matters. In another study, over 300 university students were first asked to come up with as many novel uses as possible for ordinary objects such as a brick or paper clip (曲别针) in 90 seconds. This is known as an alternative use task, which tests creativity. The students then watched a boring video. The activity gave time for the students’ ideas to incubate and for their minds to wander. When the students were tested again, their mind-wandering led to more creative ideas. An activity such as taking a shower or a walk (or watching a romantic comedy video) “takes some of your attention so that they can influence your thoughts, but doesn’t take all of it so that you pay no attention to these creative ideas that are incubating in the background.” said Zachary Irving, author of the study. 12. What do we know about the shower effect? A. It requires focused attention. B. It fails to work outside the shower. C. It enables people to have innovative ideas unconsciously. D. It is the main cause of people’s poor performance at work. 13. How did the researchers conduct the study among writers and physicists? A. They assessed their ideas at work. B. They asked them to record their creative ideas. C. They tested their creativity after they took a shower. D. They required them to use an ordinary object creatively. 14. What does the study among university students show? A. Mind-wandering can disrupt performance. B. People’s thoughts are anywhere but on the task at hand. C. Free-flowing thoughts in moderate task boost creativity. D. Mind-wandering has been associated with unhappiness. 15. What is the best title for the text? A. Why does the mind wander? B. Why do we get our best ideas in the shower? C. How can you become a more creative person? D. How may your shower routine affect your health? 第二节(共5小题;每小题2、5分,满分13.8分) 阅读下面短文、从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Five secrets to a good night’s sleep Try these five tips to help you get a better night’s sleep: Exercise Going for a daily walk keeps you up less often at night. In groups, we were to create a poster around what we were studying. On a piece of paper, we wrote the names of three friends we wanted in our group. After collecting all the requests, Mrs. Bartlett informed us that she would take into consideration the names we chose and would let us know the results the next day. I was a well-rounded top student in the class, so I had no doubt I would get the group of my choice. There were only a handful of sociably decent people in the class, and Missy was one of them. I knew we had chosen each other. The next day, I anxiously awaited the class. After the bell rang, Missy and I stopped talking as Mrs. Bartlett called for our attention. She started to call out names. When she reached group three, Missy’s name was called. So I’m in group three, I thought. The second, third and fourth members of the group were called. My name was not included. There had to be some mistake! Then I heard it. The last group: “ Mauro, Juliette, Rachel, Karina. ” I could feel the tears well in my eyes. How could I face being in that group — the boy who barely spoke English, the one girl who was always covered by skirts that went down to her ankles, and the other girl who was often wearing very strange and unusual clothes with fancy items. They certainly fell into the category of the least popular in our class. They were considered misfits (不合群人)! There must be something wrong! Mrs. Bartlett was such a person of insight, vision and thoughtfulness that she never forgot to bring out the potential of all her students. Oh, how badly I wanted to be with my friends. Finally I was determined to convince her I should be in the “ good ” group. 注意: 1.续写词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Paragraph 1: I fought back tears as I walked up to Mrs. Bartlett. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: Halfway through the week, I felt myself enjoying the company of these three misfits. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 潮州市2024—2025学年度第二学期期末高二级教学质量检测卷 英语 本试卷共12页;满分150分,完成时间130分钟。 __________________________________________________________________________________________ 下面听录音提问,用英语回答五个问题。 4. This month, our school held volunteer activities, and I took part in a book donation event for rural children. I collected 20 storybooks from my shelf and wrote warm notes in each. It also taught me to care more about others’ needs. Now I plan to keep doing volunteer work, as it helps me grow into a more responsible person. Thank you for your attention! 第二节(满分25分) 【47题答案】 【答案】Paragraph l: I fought back tears as I walked up to Mrs. Bartlett. Before I opened my mouth, she gently placed a hand on my shoulder, saying with a knowing smile, “ I know what you want, but your group needs you. ” So stunned was I that I couldn’t utter a single word for a moment. She had seen something in me that I hadn’t seen. Suddenly, a mixture of guilt as well as pride seized me. The power of being trusted made me stand straighter. “ I’ll help them. ” I replied in a firm voice. I couldn’t believe it came out of my mouth, but it did. Paragraph 2: Halfway through the week, I felt myself enjoying the company of these three misfits. The project was going smoothly with our joint efforts. Besides, I found out Mauro was struggling with English, Juliette wore long skirts because of her religion and Rachel dreamed to be a fashion designer. They weren’t misfits, just people that no one cared enough about to try to understand — except Mrs. Bartlett. I was lucky to be given a chance to see other people in a new light. Mrs. Bartlett gave us an A on that assignment, which should be handed back, for she was the one who truly deserved it. 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
