A Taste of Folk Arts
Yesterday, I had the privilege to visit the Chinese Folk Arts Exhibition, which left a deep impression on me. Now, I just can’t wait to share my thrill with you.
Never have I experienced such a fantastic exhibition before. There are a variety of traditional crafts on show, some of which can date back to ancient China. Through the exhibition, I have not only appreciated the beauty of these items, but also it enables me to get a deep understanding of Chinese cultural elements. I am so proud that I can live in a civilized country with a history of over 5,000 years.
Hope every student can spare time to enjoy the exhibition. It will not let you down.
Soon, there was a loud blaring noise to signal that the roller coaster was starting. Click, click, clunk, the roller coaster slowly inched out of the covered boarding area and into the launch and finally blasted off. As it accelerated, what I could only hear were the screams of excitement and the swooshing noises of the coaster car cutting through the wind. Gripped by fear, I squeezed my eyes shut, afraid of being shot out. At this moment, Christina’s tender voice came to my ear, “Please look out! You won’t regret experiencing it.” I summoned up courage to open my eyes, only to find we were boosting up a hill, the peak inching towards me slowly.
The roller coaster was at its peak getting ready to drop. Suddenly, it boosted up and shot forward at an unimaginable speed. Frightened yet excited, I screamed out instinctively. It seemed that I was swooping down uncontrollably. Previous fear and anxiety faded, giving way to the newfound exhilaration. I didn’t freak out again. Instead I opened my arms to embrace this unparalleled experience. Finally, we arrived at the ground safely. Through this memorable trip, I realized each risk we took was a step out of the comfort zone and a testament to our courage.

A young woman has announced the news of her own death after a battle with cancer, while sharing her wishes for her grieving loved ones.
Daniella Thackray, a 25-year-old from Leeds, took to social media to share her heart-breaking final words, after an eight-month battle with the rare disease, cholangiocarcinoma, a type of cancer that forms in the bile ducts.
The emotional message paid tribute (致敬) to her family, fiancé Tom, and dog Leo, as she encouraged her loved ones to “enjoy the little things” in life and “cherish every moment” after she had “gone”. She wrote: “If you’re reading this, then it means I have died from my battle with cancer and my family are posting my final message on my behalf.”
“Firstly, I just want to say that not all cancers are caused by lifestyle choices, in some cases it’s genetics or unfortunately it just happens. In my case, despite me being very healthy and active, a cancer started in my bile ducts which was not caused by anything in my control and my life was never the same again.”
Despite her devastating (毁灭性的) diagnosis, she chose “not to mourn life” and made the most of her time. “So with that being said, although we can’t control what happens to us, we can control how we react. I chose not to mourn the life I was losing despite being so devastated, but to enjoy every moment I had left.” Daniella added.
Her message has already gained more than 30,000 likes, while hundreds of people rushed to leave their condolences (吊唁) to her loved ones. One person wrote, “Such courageous words from someone that I’ve never met. What a wonderful message to leave us with! May you rest in paradise.”

It is a practice favored by Lena Dunham, Tom Hanks and Lady Gaga to improve their focus and bring about calmness in an often busy, distracted world. Now researchers have found evidence that frequent meditation (冥想) over several years, may help change human gut (肠道), boost the body’s immune (免疫的) system and reduce the risk of anxiety, depression and heart disease. The findings are published by the British Medical Journal.
Meditation is increasingly used to help treat drug abuse, overwhelming stress, eating disorders and long-lasting pain. But until now it has not been clear whether it could also be able to change the composition of the gut microbiome In an effort to find out, researchers led by the Shanghai Mental Health Centre at the Shanghai Jiao Tong University analyzed the stool (粪便) and blood samples of 37 Tibetan Buddhist monks from three temples and 19 residents in the neighboring areas. The Tibetan meditation from the ancient Indian medical system, is a form of psychological training. The monks in the study had practiced it for at least 2 hours a day for 3-30 years. Both groups were matched for age, blood pressure, heart rate and diet. Stool sample analysis revealed significant differences in the diversity and volume of microbes between the monks and their neighbors. “Bacteria enriched in the meditation group had a positive effect on human physical and mental health,” the researchers wrote. “This changed gut microbiome composition could improve immune function in the body.” Blood sample analysis also revealed the levels of markers associated with risk of heart disease were significantly lower in the monks.
The researchers emphasized that the study was observational and the number joining was small, all male and living at high altitude, making it difficult to draw any firm or general conclusions. However, based on their findings, the researchers said the role of meditation in helping to prevent or treat mental and physical illness deserved further research.
28. Why do many people do meditation according to the passage?
A. To bring about inner peace.
B. To cure some certain illnesses.
C. To reduce some extra movement.
D. To change the gut microbiome composition.
29. What did the researchers analyze in their study?
A. Stool and blood sample. B. Immune system.
C. Human gut. D. Tibetan Meditation.
30. According to the study, what contributed to human immune system?
A. The Drugs taken before.
B. The religion people belong to.
C. The eating habit formed already.
D. The bacteria produced in the meditation.
31. What is the major achievement the study made?
A. It tracked the joiners over a long period.
B. It explored the way how the bacteria influences the gut microbiome.
C. It involved a large sample size of different genders, age groups, and areas.
D. It provides evidence that meditation changes gut microbiome composition.
D
The world may be losing its tiny pollinators. Where were the sound of flying insects striking against the lightbulb? Even the cicadas (蝉) or crickets (蟋蟀) had stilled its instruments. Where have all the insects gone?
Our lives rely on a healthy insect population. Research shows that areas with more insect species have better and more stable pollination. As Dave Goulson, a biology professor, explains in his book Silent Earth: Averting the Insect Apocalypse, about three-quarters of all crops grown by humans need animal pollination, mostly by insects. “We could not feed the global human population without pollinators,” he writes. It’s not just bees and butterflies that are important; other less attractive pollinators like flies, wasps, and soldier beetles are also in decline. These insects not only pollinate but also eat pests that damage crops.
Scientists have been warning about the decrease in insect numbers for years. The reasons are climate change, loss of habitats, light pollution, intensive farming, and the use of pesticides and fertilizers. However, it’s difficult to convince people to take action. We humans have a complex relationship with these six-legged creatures. Remember Kafka’s Metamorphosis, where a man turns into a bug, or the Victorian stories where naughty children become insects? Seen closely, even the face of a butterfly or bee is disturbing. y strange. Perhaps we’ve been pushing insects away.
Some steps may be as simple as turning off artificial light. A recent study in China found that trees in Beijing, lit by street lights at night, seem to have tougher leaves and less damage from insects. In other words, insects are probably being starved out of the area.
We should address our attitudes to insects. Those annoying flies around your food? They use simply doing what they were born for. They’re recycling. Without them we might be wondering what to do about piles of waste. Besides, they’re food for birds, and UK bird populations have crashed in recent years.
32. How does insect diversity influence our lives?
A. It makes our life less attractive.
B. It contributes to our grain increase.
C. It has no significant effect on our life.
D. It results in a decrease in animal pollination.
33. What is implied about our relationship with insects?
A. We have a negative and fearful idea of them.
B. We are completely indifferent to them.
C. We have always been very friendly towards them.
D. We rely on them and really care about their survival.
34. What is one suggested step to lessen insects decline?
A. Introducing more species to control pests.
B. Increasing the use of pesticides to protect crops.
C. Planting more trees to provide habitats for insects.
D. Turning off artificial light to reduce light pollution.
35. What is the purpose of this passage?
A. To call on people to preserve insects.
B. To illustrate the necessity of recycling.
C. To show humans’ relationship with insects.
D. To describe the decrease of insects populations.

In the past decade, the traditional office has undergone a quiet revolution. ___36___ These dynamic environments are more than just desks and Wi-Fi; they represent a cultural shift in how people view work, community, and productivity.
The concept appeared in the early 2000s as a response to firm office structures and the growing number of remote workers.___37___ Today, spaces like WeWork, Impact Hub, and local independents cater to diverse users: a graphic designer sketching in a sunny corner, a startup team brainstorming in a glass-walled meeting room, or a student studying for exams.
The appeal lies in both practicality and community. For freelancers and small businesses, shared spaces cut costs by removing long-term rents and providing services like printers, coffee bars, and event spaces. ___38___Working alone at home can feel lonely, whereas shared workplaces foster casual interactions. A 2022 survey found that 84% of users felt more motivated working alongside others. As tech entrepreneur Maria Lopez notes, “Here, a chat over coffee might lead to a project partnership. It’s networking without pressure.”
Shared workplaces flourish diversity. A mix of industries, ages, and backgrounds creates a melting pot of ideas. Many spaces host workshops, networking nights, or skill-sharing sessions to encourage collaboration. In Berlin’s Betahaus, for example, app developers regularly team up with artists to design interactive exhibits. This cross-pollination mirrors the modern economy’s demand for interdisciplinary (跨学科) thinking. ____39____
However, shared workplaces aren’t perfect. Open layouts can be distracting for those needing deep focus. Noise levels, desk shortages during peak hours, and the lack of personal space are common complaints. Critics also argue that while these spaces promote “community,” relationships often stay superficial (浅的).
____40____ By prioritizing flexibility and human interaction, they’ re reshaping not only offices but our very definition of a “workplace.”
A. But beyond economics, these spaces fight isolation.
B. What makes them choose shared workplace is need for flexibility.
C. Shared workplaces — also known as co-working spaces —— have ballooned in popularity.
D. Shared workplaces remind us that work isn’t just about where we go but how we connect.
E. As work becomes more project-based, the ability to connect with diverse talents becomes invaluable.
F. Additionally, shared workplaces also raises questions about job stability and long-term sustainability.
G. Unlike traditional offices, shared workplaces offer pay-as-you-go memberships and environments tailored to creativity.

My two older sisters love amusement parks. They are thrill-seekers and go on the scariest rides. Every year, my father and I had the job of waiting on the line for them for their next ride. But on this day, my older sister, Christina encouraged me to ride the roller coaster with them.
“You should try it you know. I think you’re tall enough now.”
“I don’t want to go,” I said shaking my head.
“Come on I promise you it’s really fun. You’re going to regret it if you don’t go because this is our last ride of the day.”
I had to admit she could be convincing. After thinking for a while, I slowly took my sister’s hand. She smiled and dragged me towards the huge line for the roller coaster. My hands were shaking. My sister assured me again that it was going to be OK. Even my father encouraged me to go on with them.
Seeing the majestic heights of the roller coaster and other rides gave me goose bumps. I started to freak out and become pessimistic about the situation. “What if those buckles unlock and I shoot out?” I thought to myself. I shook for 30 minutes as the line got shorter. As I got closer, I could see the tremendous speed and height of the roller coaster. “Why did I say yes?” I freaked out even harder.
I turned around to look for my dad, so I could back out. But he was already out of sight. So I clung to my sister and took a deep breath. When our turn came and a guy in a red polo shirt measured my height to see if I was tall enough, I knelt down slightly.
“Alright buddy you’re good,” he announced.
“I think the front seat will be the best so we can see everything,” my oldest sister suggested.
“Hey, don’t you think the front will be the scariest with all those hard turns?” I said.
They didn’t listen to me; the three of us piled into the front. The guys in red polo shirts locked us in with seatbelts that had yellow buckles. I double-checked to make sure they were locked.
“Hey, it’s going to be fine, trust me,” one sister said.

20. How many reasons does the text give?
A. Two. B. Three. C. Four.
A 18. C 19. C 20. A
Today, we are going to talk about the spread of culture. We all know that throughout history, ideas spread from one culture to another when different groups of people get in touch with each other. However, people don’t always adopt new ideas like new inventions, food and ways of life. Well, why is this the case? One possible reason is the availability of raw materials. For example, a foreigner introduced a tasty soup. But to make the soup, people would have to use the dried leaves of a special plant that is not available in this country. So, no raw material. What happens next? They would not make the soup a part of their regular diet, even if they enjoyed the taste. Another reason is that if people already have something similar in their own culture, they might reject the new item. They may feel they don’t need two things serving the same purpose. For example, if a traveler introduces a unique musical instrument to a country, but the locals already have their own instrument that produces similar sounds. It’s likely that the new instrument will not be widely accepted.

A 29. A 30. D 31. D
由第一段中“It is a practice favored by Lena Dunham, Tom Hanks and Lady Gaga to improve their focus and bring about calmness in an often busy, distracted world. (这是Lena Dunham、Tom Hanks和Lady Gaga喜欢的一种练习,可以在一个经常繁忙、分心的世界里提高注意力,带来平静。)”推知,很多人冥想是因为它能带来内心的平静。故选A项。

B 33. A 34. D 35. A
根据第二段中“Research shows that areas with more insect species have better and more stable pollination. As Dave Goulson, a biology professor, explains in his book Silent Earth: Averting the Insect Apocalypse, about three quarters of all crops grown by humans need animal pollination, mostly by insects.(研究表明,昆虫种类更多的地区有更好、更稳定的授粉情况。正如生物学教授戴夫·古尔森在他的《寂静地球:避免昆虫末日》一书中解释的那样,人类种植的大约四分之三的农作物需要动物授粉,主要是昆虫授粉)”可知,昆虫多样性有助于农作物授粉,从而促进粮食增产。故选B项。
33. 细节理解题。根据第三段中“We humans have a complex relationship with these six legged creatures. Remember Kafka’s Metamorphosis, where a man turns into a bug, or the Victorian stories where naughty children become insects? Seen closely, even the face of a butterfly or bee is disturbing. Maybe strange. Perhaps we’ve been pushing insects away.(我们人类与这些六条腿的生物有着复杂的关系。还记得卡夫卡的《变形记》吗,里面一个人变成了虫子,或者维多利亚时代的故事里调皮的孩子变成了昆虫?凑近看,即使是蝴蝶或蜜蜂的脸也很让人不安,也许很奇怪。也许我们一直在把昆虫推开)”可知,我们对昆虫有负面和恐惧的看法。故选A项。
根据第四段中“Some steps may be as simple as turning off artificial light. A recent study in China found that trees in Beijing, lit by street lights at night, seem to have tougher leaves and less damage from insects. In other words, insects are probably being starved out of the area.(有些措施可能像关掉人造光一样简单。
故选A项。

C 37. G 38. A 39. E 40. D
36. 由上文“In the past decade, the traditional office has undergone a quiet revolution.(在过去十年中,传统办公室经历了一场悄然的革命)”可知,此处需引出革命的具体表现 —— 共享工作空间的兴起。C项Shared workplaces — also known as co-working spaces — have ballooned in popularity.(共享工作空间 —— 也称为联合办公空间 —— 已迅速流行起来)中“ballooned in popularity”呼应“quiet revolution”,明确说明传统办公室的变化趋势,且通过同位语解释术语,与后文“These dynamic environments are more than just desks and Wi-Fi(这些动态环境不仅仅是桌子和Wi-Fi)”形成“概念引入→特征描述”的逻辑衔接。故选C项。
37. 由上文“The concept appeared in the early 2000s as a response to firm office structures and the growing number of remote workers.(该概念于21世纪初出现,是对固定办公结构和远程工作者数量增长回应)”及下文“Today, spaces like WeWork, Impact Hub, and local independents cater to diverse users(如今,WeWork、Impact Hub和当地独立机构等空间迎合了不同的用户)”可知,此处需对比说明共享工作空间的特点。G项Unlike traditional offices, shared workplaces offer pay-as-you-go memberships and environments tailored to creativity.(与传统办公室不同,共享工作空间提供即付即用的会员资格和专为创造力定制的环境)通过“Unlike traditional offices”形成对比,“pay-as-you-go memberships”和“tailored to creativity”具体阐述其灵活性与创新性,既承接前文“对固定结构的回应”,又为后文“多样用户”做铺垫。故选G项。
38. 由上文“For freelancers and small businesses, shared spaces cut costs by removing long-term rents and providing services like printers, coffee bars, and event spaces.(对于自由职业者和小型企业来说,共享空间通过取消长期租金和提供打印机、咖啡馆和活动空间等服务来降低成本)”及下文“Working alone at home can feel lonely, whereas shared workplaces foster casual interactions.(独自在家工作可能感到孤独,而共享工作场所促进随意互动)”可知,此处需转折引出共享空间的社交价值。A项But beyond economics, these spaces fight isolation.(但除了经济因素,这些空间还能对抗孤独)中“But beyond economics”转折,从“成本优势”过渡到“社交意义”,“fight isolation”对应后文“lonely”和“foster interactions”,形成“经济优势→社交价值”的递进逻辑。故选A项。
39. 由上文“This cross-pollination mirrors the modern economy’s demand for interdisciplinary thinking.(这种思想交融反映了现代经济对跨学科思维的需求)”可知,此处需强调跨学科合作的重要性。E项As work becomes more project-based, the ability to connect with diverse talents becomes invaluable.(随着工作变得更基于项目,与多样化人才建立联系的能力变得无价) 中“diverse talents”呼应“cross-pollination”和“interdisciplinary thinking”,“project-based”衔接前文“team up with artists”的案例,说明共享空间如何满足现代经济需求,形成“现象→意义” 的阐释关系。故选E项。
40. 由下文“By prioritizing flexibility and human interaction, they’re reshaping not only offices but our very definition of a ‘workplace.’(通过优先考虑灵活性和人际互动,它们不仅在重塑办公室,还在重塑我们对‘工作场所’的定义)”可知,此处需总结共享工作空间的核心价值。D项Shared workplaces remind us that work isn’t just about where we go but how we connect.(共享工作空间提醒我们,工作不仅关乎我们去哪里,还关乎我们如何连接)中“how we connect”对应“human interaction”,“where we go”对应“workplace definition”,通过对比句式提炼共享空间的本质,与后文“reshaping definition”形成“总结→延伸”的逻辑闭环。故选D项。

故填an。
根据“merely an hour after its launch on Tuesday morning”可知,此处讲述的是过去发生的事情,应用一般过去时。故填came。
故填that/which。
故填to understand。
故填in。
immerse oneself in sth.

注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;
Paragraph 1: Soon, there was a loud blaring noise to signal that the roller coaster was starting.

Paragraph2: The roller coaster was at its peak getting ready to drop.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

We all know that throughout history, ideas spread from one culture to another when different groups of people get in touch with each other. However, people don't always adopt new ideas like new inventions, food and ways of life. Well, why is this the case? One possible reason is the availability of raw materials. For example, a foreigner introduced a tasty soup, but to make the soup, people would have to use the dried leaves of a special plant that is not available in this country. So no raw material. What happens next? They would not make the soup a part of their regular diet, even if they enjoyed the taste. Another reason is that if people already have something similar in their own culture, they might reject the new item. They may feel they don't need two things serving the same purpose. For example, if a traveller introduces a unique musical instruments to our country, but the locals already have their own instrument that produces similar sounds, it's likely that the new instrument will not be widely accepted.
