However, if you’re willing to leave your country and explore life in other areas, there are many countries boasting an extremely cheap and low cost of living. Check out the following countries when planning your next move. Ecuador Ecuador is similar to the United States in many ways, and as a result has become a popular American getaway. They even use the US Dollar for their currency. In this country, it’s cheaper to eat out every day than cook for yourself on a budget in the US. You can even buy a building for around $ 50, 000 and hire someone to look after it while you’re away. Mexico Although the country is known for its poverty ridden streets, there $are many wealthier areas that provide every facility you might need. You can live off a mere $ 700 to $ 800 a month in Mexico, and this includes rent for a nice place, facilities, food, and any sightseeing. Argentina Argentina has been a popular tourist destination for many years. It has great restaurants, a rich history, and many places to explore. Not to mention, it’s not very expensive to live here. A decent sized home can cost around $ 139, 000, which is relatively cheap in relation to homes in the United States. Vietnam Vietnam has also become a popular tourist destination in recent years. There are many million-dollar luxury homes by the beach, but you can find a modest flat or a small home for around $ 25,000 to $ 50,000 if you search in the right areas. 21. In which country is the US Dollar used for its currency? A. Argentina. B. Mexico. C. Ecuador. D. Vietnam. 22. How much does it cost to live in Mexico for a year? A. About $ 7,000. B. About $ 8,000. C. About $ 8,800. D. About $ 12,000. 23. What do Argentina and Vietnam have in common? A. They have great restaurants. B. The cost of living is expensive. C. The middle-sized homes cost around $ 139,000. D. Tourists enjoy travelling in the two countries. B As a boy I was always small for my age. I was also five years younger than one of my brothers and seven years younger than the other. As a result I often felt left out when their friends came over to play. I was either too small or too young for whatever they were doing and they didn’t want me to listen to their conventions, either. More often than not I found myself outside playing alone and feeling forgotten. I remember one spring afternoon feeling especially lonely as I sat in the yard behind our house. We lived miles from town and I rarely saw my own friends outside of school. I heard my brothers laughing from inside the house and felt tears coming down my cheek. At that moment I saw a large brown dog walking over to me. He looked happy and his tail was wagging as well. Even though he didn’t know me, he greeted me like a long-lost friend, licking my feet and sitting beside me on the spring grass. It must have been for at least an hour that I petted and talked to this four-legged angel. He let me pour out all my troubles and share my deepest thoughts before he kissed my cheek goodbye. I went back inside feeling happy, knowing that no matter what life may hold, I was loved. Now over 40 years later I still remember that angel with a smile. I believe that God sent him in that moment of sadness to remind me just how much he loved me. In truth, nothing brings us greater joy than knowing we are loved. Knowing we are loved gives us the strength to love others as well. Knowing we are loved aids us in making Earth more like Heaven. Embrace that love, take joy in it, and then go out and share your own love with the world. 24. When the author’s brother’s friends came to their house, the author ________. A. couldn’t play with them B. was permitted to listen to their talk C. was unwilling to communicate with them D. was happy to take part in their activities 25. What can we conclude from the second paragraph? A. The large brown dog frightened the author. B. The author preferred to be in a quiet place. C. The dog greeted him like a long-lost friend. D. The author often invited many friends to his house. 26. When the author returned to his home, ________. A. he felt much happier than before B. he led this four-legged angel home C. he shared his thoughts with his brothers D. he was unwilling to play with his brothers 27. What does the text mainly want to express? A. We should take care of dogs. B. We must know we are loved. C. We need to give our love to others. D. We can play with our brothers happily. C Students and Technology in the Classroom I love my blackberry (黑莓手机) — it’s my little connection to the larger world that can go anywhere with me. I also love my laptop computer, as it holds all of my writing and thoughts. Despite this love of technology, I know that there are times when I need to move away from these devices (设备) and truly communicate with others. On one occasion, I teach a course called History Matters for a group of higher education managers. My goals for the class include a full discussion of historical themes and ideas. Because I want students to thoroughly study the material and exchange their ideas with each other in the classroom, I have a rule—no laptops, IPads, phones, etc. When students were told my rule in advance of the class, some of them were not happy. Most students think that my reasons for this rule include unpleasant experiences in the past with students misusing technology. There’s a bit of truth to that. Some students think that I am anti-technology. There’s no truth in that at all. I love technology and try to keep up with it so I can relate to my students. The real reason why I ask students to leave technology at the door is that I think there are very few places in which we can have deep conversations and engage complex ideas. Interruptions by technology often break concentration (专心) and allow for too much dependence on outside information for ideas. I want students to dig deep within themselves for inspiration and ideas. I want them to push each other to think differently and make connections between the course material and the class discussion. I’ve been teaching my history class in this way for many years and the evaluations reflect student satisfaction with the environment that I create. Students realize that with deep conversation and challenge, they learn at a level that helps them keep the course material beyond the classroom. I’m not saying that I won’t ever change my mind about technology use in my history class, but until I hear a rally good reason for the change, I’m sticking to my plan. A few hours of technology-free dialogue is just too sweet to give up. 28. Some of the students in the history class were unhappy with ______. A. the course material B. others’ misuse of technology C. discussion topics D. the author’s class rules 29. The underlined word “engage” in para.4 probably means ______. A. explore B. accept C. change D. refuse 30. According to the author, the use of technology in the classroom may ______. A. keep students from doing independent thinking B. encourage students to have deep conversations C. help students to better understand difficult themes D. affect students’ concentration on the teacher’s ideas 31. It can be inferred from the last paragraph that the author ______. A. is quite stubborn in teaching B. will give up teaching history C. will change his teaching plan soon D. values technology-free dialogues in his class D Hadeda ibises, known as “African alarm clocks” for their loud calls, have long legs and thin beaks (鸟喙) and shiny feathers on their wings. Historically restricted to northeastern South Africa, hadedas have significantly expanded their range to many urban areas. Various ibises use remote-touch to detect movements of prey (猎物) in the soil and locate their hidden place. This ability is facilitated by a sensory organ in their beaks, called the bill-tip organ, which developed during the time of the dinosaurs. My recent research confirmed that hadedas have this“sixth sense” and found it is closely tied to soil moisture (湿度) levels. We conducted sensory tests with hadedas in bird cages. We presented them with boxes of soil containing buried worms (虫), masking any sounds with white noise and mixing dead worms into the soil to remove scent cues (气味线索). The birds consistently found live worms faster than dead ones, indicating they are able to sense movements of prey and use remote-touch to find them. Further testing revealed that hadedas found worms more quickly in wetter soils. If the soil was too dry, they lost this ability and had to rely on random searching. These findings suggest that the hadedas’ expansion in South Africa is related to increased artificial watering systems. They require wet soil to use remote-touch effectively, which could explain their absence in dry regions. Droughts and heatwaves, expected to worsen with climate change, could threaten their population by making prey detection more challenging. The study highlights the broader implications for other remote-touch hunting birds, many of which are already endangered. As soil moisture levels decrease, these birds could become more at risk, stressing the importance of considering sensory requirements in conservation efforts. 32. What do we know about hadeda ibises? A. They are known for shiny feathers. B. They barely see any rise in numbers. C. They recall images of the dinosaurs. D. They have a specialized sensory organ. 33. Why were white noise and dead worms used in the experiment? A. To get a more reliable result. B. To add experimental items. C. To copy natural habitats. D. To avoid disturbing the subjects. 34. What does the research suggest about the impact of climate change on hadedas? A. Climate change will decrease their reliance on soil moisture. B. Droughts could make it more difficult for them to find prey. C. Increased rainfall will help them relocate to urbanized areas. D. Rising temperatures could increase their feeding efficiency. 35. What does the text mainly talk about? A. The specialty of hadedas’ organs. B. The masters of dry land hunting. C. Hadedas’ prey detection in wet soil. D. Hadedas ibises’ urban expansion. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Smartwatches and fitness trackers (健身追踪器) have gained popularity recently. These tools can record your daily steps, heart rates, etc. 36 If yes, it might be a sign that you’re addicted to your fitness tracker. 37 If you keep setting unrealistic daily goals that include doing exercise for too long, and if you begin to ignore friends and responsibilities to make time for your exercise, then you’re most probably addicted to your fitness tracker. It’s difficult to overcome the addiction to fitness trackers. 38 For example, the number in your smart watch showing how far you’ve come can give you a sense of achievement. Of course, failing to meet your daily goal can be sad. You might focus on your weaknesses rather than your progress. Another problem is that you might find yourself paying too much attention to the step number rather than how your body feels. 39 Therefore, if you’re spending too much time looking at your smartwatch, limit your daily step count to a comfortable level. 40 For example, concentrating on your hobbies or socializing with friends can be a great way to keep your mind on other things. A.Don’t overuse your smartwatch. B.It doesn’t show what you’re really feeling. C.After all, reaching a daily step count can be so attractive. D.How can you tell whether you’re addicted to your fitness tracker? E.Actually, this addiction to step count can be risky, mentally and physically. F.However, do you find yourself checking your steps and heart rates too often? G.Besides, you can find other things to do that don’t include checking your fitness tracker. 第三部分 语言运用 (共两节, 满分30分) 第一节 完型填空 (共15 小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项 I once worked in the remote but beautiful countryside. She took a deep bow and was given thundering applause. I, too, gave applause. I was happy for my friend. Well, I was pretending to be happy for her. Deep down inside, I was rather feeling envious of Asta. She was always the one who makes speeches, debates and tells stories to others. Me? No! I had stage fright and was always the shy, quiet one who was never courageous to speak in front of others. I had never managed to do a presentation without stammering(结巴). Every time I saw someone making a speech, I would imagine myself in his or her place, receiving the applause and praise. I was walking to the canteen with Asta. She, as usual, was looking at the script. She had been chosen to be the presenter for the National Day Celebration. I sighed to myself. Why could I not be like her, always loud and brave? If only there was a way to prove myself... Just then, I caught a glimpse of a poster on the noticeboard. “Minute to say it?” I read the poster out loud. It was a competition where one has to prepare a speech about a particular topic and summarize it on the stage within one minute. This could be my big chance to overcome my stage fright! And the best part was, if I won the competition, I would receive a mini-trophy (小奖杯). Without thinking twice, I grabbed a form and filled in it. I took a seat in the canteen with Asta and told her what I had done, after which she said that she had also signed up for the competition. Suddenly, regret hit me like a 20-pound hammer. I was competing against Asta who was the best speaker in the school! I was bound to lose! Why was I so ill-fated? I just wanted a chance to prove myself that I could overcome my stage fright. 注意: 1. 续写词数应为150左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 The big day finally arrived. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Next, it was Asta’s turn. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 高二英语期中考试听力原文 (Text1 ) M: Strange! Therefore, what we should do now is to take immediate action to change the situation. First of all, it is necessary for us to raise awareness of environmental protection and develop the good habit of garbage sorting. What’s more, we should voluntarily differentiate recyclable rubbish from non-recyclables in our daily life. In a word, if everyone does his / her bit responsibly in garbage sorting, our school will become better and better.  Yours Li Hua 第二节范文 The big day finally arrived. As I stood backstage, waiting for my turn, I could feel the butterflies in my stomach. I kept rehearsing my speech in my mind, trying to calm my nerves. When my name was called, I stepped onto the stage with shaky legs. I looked at the audience and forced a smile. I began my speech, my voice quivering at first. But as I went on, I focused on the message I wanted to convey and slowly forgot about my fear. I talked about my dreams and how important it was to believe in oneself. When I ended my speech, there was warm applause. It wasn't as loud as I had hoped, but it was a sign that I had done okay. I walked off the stage with a sense of relief and a glimmer of pride. Next, it was Asta’s turn. She walked onto the stage with grace and confidence, which seemed to light up the whole room. Her speech was flawless, full of passion and energy. She captivated the audience from the beginning to the end. I couldn't help but feel a bit envious again, but at the same time, I was inspired by her. After the competition, as we waited for the results, I thought about my journey. I realized that I had come a long way from being too scared to speak. Even if I didn't win, the fact that I had challenged myself was far more significant. When the results were announced and Asta won the trophy, I wasn't disappointed. Instead, I was genuinely happy for her and proud of myself for having the courage to participate. I know that success is not just measured by trophies, but by the courage and determination we show in the process of chasing our goals. 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
