4 Global Art Fairs to See in 2025
The art market rises and falls but art fairs are forever. Here are some fairs coming up in 2025.
Art Dubai: Dubai, Apr. 18-20
Founded in 2007, Art Dubai usually features around 120 galleries, some 65 percent of which are from the Global South. The fair has a section for digital works — not typical at other fairs. The solo project section, Bawwaba, is worth seeing.
Expo Chicago: Chicago, Apr. 25-27
Expo Chicago was established in 2012. The 2024 edition had 170 galleries from 29 countries exhibiting their artworks. One of those was Claire Oliver Gallery of New York, which has participated in every edition so far. “We love this fair,” Claire Oliver said. “The visitors are engaged, ask great questions and are truly curious.”
Tokyo Gendai: Yokohama, Sept. 12-14
Asian art fairs have been growing rapidly. The biggest regional player, Art Basel Hong Kong, was joined by Singapore’s Art SG in 2023, the same year as the first edition of Tokyo Gendai. The fair had 69 galleries showing contemporary art in July 2024 for its second edition. “The focus is on cutting-edge and contemporary work,” said Tim Blum, who runs the gallery Blum.
Paris Photo: Paris, Nov. 13-16
Held annually, Paris Photo will have its 28th edition in 2025. Despite the photography focus, organizers say the fair has crossover appeal. “We’ve expanded the range of collectors — we get not only photography people, but contemporary art collectors,” said the fair’s artistic director, Anna Planas.

I highly recommend Antifragile to any student or practitioner of business management, risk management, or anyone with a curious mind and a keen interest in understanding complex human systems. The book delves into various subjects, including education, politics, economics, health, business, science, and risk, providing valuable insights and a deeper understanding of these complex topics.
Antifragile builds on the ideas presented in Nassim Taleb’s earlier books, The Black Swan and Fooled by Randomness. In The Black Swan, the focus was on the extreme impact of rare events and the limitations of human predictions and forecasting. Fooled by Randomness emphasizes the role of randomness and luck in life and business outcomes as well as the difficulty of distinguishing between actual skill and luck.
While those books focus on “black swans” — rare and unpredictable events that have a significant impact, Antifragile further discusses the idea of antifragility and offers solutions to identify, build and benefit from antifragility in every aspect of life.
One of the main new topics addressed in Antifragile is that some systems and individuals benefit from stressors and disruptions (干扰) while others are harmed by them. Taleb defines complex systems as systems composed of interconnected and interdependent parts that exhibit nonlinear (非线性) behavior. These systems are characterized by high uncertainty, volatility (波动性), and non-predictability and are often difficult to understand and control.
Besides, Taleb defines complexity as the property of a system that makes it hard to predict its behaviour or outcomes based on knowledge of its parts. He argues that complexity emerges from the interactions and relationships between the parts of a system and that it is a fundamental characteristic of many natural and human-made systems, including economies, societies, and ecosystems.
Overall, Antifragile is a thought-provoking and influential work that challenges readers to rethink their assumptions about resilience and stability.
4. Why does the author highly recommend the book Antifragile?
A. It provides practical tips for student and practitioner readers.
B. It concentrates on business and risk management strategies.
C. It offers deep insights into complexity across diverse fields.
D. It simplifies complex topics into understandable summaries.
5. What is the relationship between Antifragile and Taleb’s earlier books?
A. It contradicts their ideas. B. It expands on their perspectives.
C. It disputes their concepts. D. It addresses comparable subjects.
6. What is a characteristic of complex systems according to Taleb?
A. Stable outcomes. B. Straightforward interactions.
C. Absolute certainty. D. Significant unpredictability.
7. What is the tone of the passage?
A. Dismissive. B. Neutral. C. Skeptical. D. Enthusiastic.

C
Whether in busy cities or small towns, people from all walks of life enjoy a cup of coffee as part of their daily routine. The thought of a steaming cup of coffee helps to pull many people worldwide out of bed in the morning. Scientists have consistently linked this ubiquitous drink to lowered risks for illnesses such as heart disease, colon cancer and type 2 diabetes. But its effects on the gut microbiome (肠道菌群) are largely unknown.
Researchers from Harvard University examined samples from over 20, 000 participants who tracked their daily coffee intake. They discovered that regular coffee consumption has a connection to the growth of a specific gut bacterium (细菌) . “We don’t know much about this bug, but we can place it as likely a good one, ” said Peter Belenky, a microbiologist at Brown University, who was not involved in the study.
In the largest-ever study, coffee intake was found to increase the number of certain types of bacteria in the gut, but the connection with Lawsonibacter asaccharolyticus (溶糖劳森乳杆菌) was the strongest. When coffee was added to lab dishes containing this bacterium, it grew faster. “It’s rare to find such a strong and clear link, ” said Mingyang Song, a co-senior author of the study from Harvard University.
To understand the role of this bacterium in the gut, the researchers looked at substances in the blood of hundreds of participants. They found that higher levels of quinic acid, which can help reduce inflammation (炎症) , were strongly related to the growth of L. asaccharolyticus. The same was true for hippurate, a substance that shows a more diverse gut microbiome and better gut health.
Based on these results, the scientists are now trying to connect these bacteria and related substances to overall health. Song explained, “This could help us understand if the bacteria are really behind the health benefits of coffee. ”
Analyzing large datasets from many people is a good way to explore the links between what we eat and drink and the bacteria in our gut. Belenky said, “This study might pave the way for a new approach to food research. ”
8. What does the underlined word “ubiquitous” probably mean?
A. Popular. B. Expensive. C. Dangerous. D. Unique.
9. What did Harvard researchers find in their study?
A. Which coffee impacts the gut microbiome.
B. Drinking coffee contains some gut bacteria.
C. Coffee consumption reduces heart disease risk.
D. Coffee intake is linked to a certain gut bacterium.
10. Why did the researchers analyze the blood samples?
A. To identify other new types of bacteria. B. To prove that coffee reduces inflammation.
C. To know how the bacterium works in the gut. D. To develop treatments for gut-related diseases.
11. What is the best title for the text?
A. What Effect Coffee Has on People? B. Link Coffee to the Gut Microbiome
C. New Approach Applied to Food Study D. Coffee Boosts Beneficial Gut Bacterium

The most recent generation of chatbots has surfaced long-term concerns about the growing wisdom and accessibility of artificial intelligence (AI). And fears about the integrity of the job market have spread to the classroom. Yet the truth is that the effects of large-scale language models such as ChatGPT will touch virtually every corner of our lives. These new tools raise society-wide concerns about AI’s role in spreading misinformation, committing identity theft, and more.
A team of researchers is seeking to empower tech users to reduce these risks. The study uses data from Real or Fake Text, an original web-based training game. This game is remarkable for transforming the standard experimental method for detection studies into a more accurate model of how people use AI to generate text.
In standard methods, participants are asked to indicate in a yes-or-no fashion whether a given text is produced by a machine. This task involves simply classifying a text as real or fake and responses are scored as correct or not. The new model significantly transforms the standard detection study into an effective training task by showing examples that all begin as human-written. Each example then transitions (过渡) into an AI-generated text, asking participants to mark where they believe this transition begins. Participants identify and describe the features of the text and receive a score. The study results show that participants scored significantly better than random chance, providing evidence that AI-created text is detectable.
The study speaks not only to artificial intelligence today, but also outlines a reassuring, even exciting, future for our relationship to this technology.
“Five years ago,” says Maggie, a researcher in the study, “models couldn’t stay on topic or produce a fluent sentence. Now, they rarely make a grammar mistake. Our study identifies the kind of errors that characterize AI chatbots, but it’s important to keep in mind that these errors have evolved and will continue to evolve. The shift to be concerned about is not that AI-written text is undetectable. It’s that people will need to continue training themselves to recognize the difference and work with detection software as a supplement (补充).”
12 What does paragraph 1 focus on?
A. The problems caused by AI tools in job hunting.
B. The influence of AI tools on classroom teaching.
C. The application of AI tools to facilitate our lives.
D The widespread worries about the use of AI tools.
13. How does the new model differ from the standard detection methods?
A. It provides immediate response and feedback.
B. It involves judging the texts given as real or fake.
C. It offers examples to help trainees understand more.
D. It asks participants to mark the start of the transition.
14. What can be inferred from Maggie’s words?
A. AI models won’t make language errors nowadays.
B. Detection software will be needed to ensure fluency.
C. Abilities to identify AI-created texts should be improved.
D. The errors AI made are ever-changing and undetectable.
15. What is the best title of the text?
A. A Comprehensive Guide: Understand AI
B. The Rise of AI: From Challenges to Chances
C. Real or Fake Text: Learn to Spot the Difference
D. The Evolution of Chatbots: From Errors to Concerns
【答案】12. D 13. D 14. C 15. C

故填to experience。
【37题详解】
考查冠词。句意:晒衣节是红瑶民族的一个重要节日,每年农历六月初六举行。此处泛指“一个重要节日”,且essential以元音音素开头,应用不定冠词an。故填an。
故填was extended。

故填which或that。

My Views on Participating in Labor Activities
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】 My Views on Participating in Labor Activities
As the chart shows, only 20% of students regularly participate in labor activities, while the majority of the students tend to do so occasionally. This shows that many students still lack active involvement in labor.
Never can we overemphasize labor is crucial for developing practical skills and a sense of responsibility. Admittedly, not only can it promote students’ physical well-being, but it also helps students understand the value of hard work.
I strongly advocate that students should be encouraged to get involved in labor by providing more opportunities. Let’s contribute to a more hands-on and responsible community!

第二节(满分25分)
47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Evan, the brightest kid in the neighbourhood, ran a backyard detective agency, where he helped neighbors solve mysteries.
One chilly November morning, his neighbor James burst into Evan’s clubhouse, with pajamas on, hair stuck up, and boots muddy. “Molly’s gone!” James cried, burying his head in his arms. “Someone must have stolen her.”
Evan patted James on the back. “Calm down, James. There might be another explanation.” James looked up, eyes glistening with hope. “Do you think you can find her?” Evan picked up a pencil and his notebook. “I’ll need a complete description.”
Molly was James’s beloved pet turtle — olive green with black lines, a pale yellow neck, and a six-inch shell. She had appeared in James’s lily pond the previous spring and loved basking (晒太阳) on a sunlit rock. But that morning, she was nowhere to be found.
Evan’s pencil danced across the paper. “Let’s go to the pond. Show me where Molly was before she disappeared.” With a knitted brow, James led the way to the backyard. “I check on her every morning.” James sobbed. “She likes our lily pond, and she always likes to sit on that rock in the sun, stretching out her neck.”
Evan jotted down more notes. “Was she on the rock the last time you saw her?” “Yes, she’s there every morning at sunrise. But not today.” He added this information to his notebook. “I’ve found some good clues,” he said, without looking up. “I need to check some facts online. Meet me in my office in 30 minutes.”
Rushing home, Evan called out to his mom, asking if he could borrow her laptop. He searched for turtle species in Northern California. Soon, he found matching photographs on a wildlife website. Staring at those photos of hibernating (冬眠的) turtles, Evan was lost in deep thought.
James showed up early, “Did you find Molly?”
注意:(1)续写词数应为150左右;
(2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Paragraph 1:
“Not exactly,” said Evan, “but I know where she is.”

Paragraph2:
One warm April morning, he rushed to Evan’s clubhouse, breathless.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】A possible version:
“Not exactly,” said Evan, “but I know where she is.” Unfolding the laptop and scrolling through the pictures he had googled, Evan elaborated, his voice steady and convincing. “You see, James. Turtles often enter a state of hibernation to conserve energy and protect themselves from the freezing temperatures.” James listened intently, his earlier restlessness gradually giving way to curiosity. Evan pointed to a detailed diagram on the screen, illustrating how turtles bury themselves in the mud. “Molly might have done just that,” Evan continued. “She could be right there, waiting for the warmth of spring to wake her up.” James’s face lit up with hope, the weight lifted off his mind. He decided to wait patiently for Molly’s return.
One warm April morning, he rushed to Evan’s clubhouse, breathless. “Evan, she’s back!” James exclaimed, eyes sparkling with joy. Together, they hurried to the pond, with brisk steps. There was Molly on her favourite rock, basking in the sunlight, sprawling lazily, and her eyes half-closed in contentment. James knelt down, gently stroking her glistening olive green shell. “Thank you.” he said, looking up at his young neighbor with gratitude. “She was hibernating. You were right all along.” Just then, Molly stretched out her pale yellow neck, as if chiming in his words. Evan smiled, not just for his detective success, but for the profound fulfillment of being a beacon of hope for his neighbors in trouble.

4 Global Art Fairs to See in 2025
The art market rises and falls, but art fairs are forever.
1. What is special about Art Dubai?
A. Its active interaction. B. Its electronic artworks.
C. Its cutting-edge collections. D. Its theme on photography.

A. Art Dubai. B. Expo Chicago. C. Tokyo Gendai. D. Paris Photo.
3. What is the purpose of the text?

4 Why does the author highly recommend the book Antifragile?
