Dear Tim,
I am glad to hear that you are invited to a Chinese friend’s house. Now, I am writing to tell you
something about Chinese traditional customs.
First, it is proper for you to arrive early so that you can help the family prepare the dinner.
Then you can greet each other by shaking hands. Besides, you’d better bring some meaningful
gifts, such as a book or a Chinese knot. Finally, avoid making noises while chewing food, or
you will be considered impolite. Don’t talk when eating. And you shouldn’t stick your
chopsticks into the bowl.
I believe these suggestions will be of some help to you. Meanwhile, hope you will have a good
time.

Tom worked hard in an office. But it seemed that there was little change in his life. He was
unhappy and didn’t want to improve himself any more. His father, Joe, knew this and decided to
have a talk with him.
One day, Tom and his father went for a walk after dinner. While they were walking along the
river, Tom said, “Dad, you always tell me to learn something new. To be honest, I don’t want to
make any change.”
Joe looked in the river, saw a dead fish and pointed at it.
“Tom, what is that over there?”
“It’s a dead fish.”
“What’s the fish doing?”
“It’s moving down with the running water.”
“But the fish is dead. How can it be moving?” asked Joe.
“It’s moving as the river is moving.”
Joe turned to his son and said, “Life is like the river. It’s always moving and always changing.

if you want to live a better life?”

aunt. So he made up his mind to continue learning and developing himself.

young woman, “I can also pay part of it.”
“That is not necessary, my boy.” said the old woman.
