Module 5 Look after yourself-Unit 1 We'd better get you to hospital. 一、教学目标 Language Ability: Master illness-related vocabulary and suggestion patterns to conduct simple first-aid dialogues. Cultural Awareness: Understand Sino-foreign differences in first-aid knowledge and foster self-protection awareness. Thinking Quality: Improve logical analysis and emergency response through inferring conditions from contexts. Learning Ability: Actively accumulate practical expressions using images and videos. 二、重难点 Key Points: Vocabulary for describing illnesses ("swollen," "bleed") and "We'd better..." structure. Difficult Points: Flexibly using suggestion patterns in contexts and distinguishing tones between "had better" and "should." 三、学情分析 Ninth-graders have basic knowledge of medical terms like "have a fever" but struggle with complex descriptions (e.g., "swollen," "bleeding") and suggestive structures ("had better," "should"). They lack practice in real-life first-aid communication. 四、教学过程 教学环节 教师活动 课内探究 开场导入 Hello, class! Welcome back to our English class. Before we start today's new lesson, let's have a quick review. (Write "accident" on the blackboard) Class, do you remember this word? What does it mean in Chinese? Yes, it means "事故". Now, can you think of some common accidents that might happen in our daily life? Raise your hands and tell me. (Wait for students to answer) 词汇讲解 Great! You've mentioned many kinds of accidents. Now, let's learn some new words and phrases related to accidents. (Show pictures of people catching up with each other on the PPT) Look at this picture. What are these people doing? Right, they are catching up. "Catch up" means to reach the same place as someone who started before you. For example, Tom walked too fast, and I had to run to catch up with him. Repeat after me, "catch up". (Lead students to read the phrase several times) Next word. (Show a picture of two people shaking hands, with a piece of paper in their hands which symbolizes an agreement) What do you think is happening here? They are making an agreement. "Agreement" means a decision or arrangement that two or more people have made together. We can say "have an agreement". For instance, We had an agreement to clean the classroom together. Read after me, "agreement", "have an agreement". Now, look at this picture. (Show a picture of a blind person walking with a cane) This person can't see. We use the word "blind" to describe such a person. For example, The poor dog lost its eyesight and became blind. Follow me, "blind". And this one. (Suddenly pretend to hit your finger and shout "ouch") Oh, ouch! This word "ouch" is used when we feel sudden pain. Say it aloud, "ouch". Last but not least, "call off". (Show a picture of a sports event being cancelled) When we "call off" something, it means we decide not to do it anymore. Like, The football match was called off because of the heavy rain. Read after me, "call off". 课文听力 Alright, now that we've learned these new words and phrases, let's listen to a conversation. In this conversation, something bad happened. Listen carefully and try to answer these questions on the screen. (Show the questions on the PPT: 1. Where did the accident happen? 2. Who had an accident? 3. How did the accident happen?) (Play the recording of the dialogue) Okay, time's up. Let's check the answers. Who can tell me where the accident happened? (Call on a student to answer) Yes, it happened on the Great Wall. And who had an accident? Right, Daming. Now, how did the accident happen? (Another student answers) Very good. Daming fell over when he was running down the steps. 课文精读 Now, let's read the conversation carefully together. (Read the dialogue sentence by sentence with students, explaining difficult points) "They'll catch up in a few minutes." Here, "catch up" we just learned means Daming and Tony will reach the same place as the others soon. "He's had an accident." This is the present perfect tense. We use it to talk about an action that started in the past and has some connection to the present. Daming had an accident in the past, and now they are dealing with the situation. "Hefell over when he was running down the steps." This sentence combines the past simple tense "fell over" and the past continuous tense "was running". The past continuous tense here shows an action that was in progress at a certain time in the past, and the past simple tense shows a shorter action that happened during that longer action. Now, let's read the dialogue in pairs. One acts as Mr. Jackson, and the other acts as the student who is reporting the accident. Try to imitate the intonation and pronunciation in the recording. (Walk around the classroom, listening to students' reading and giving guidance) 重点句型讲解 After reading the dialogue, let's focus on some important sentence patterns. First, "had better (not) do...". It means it is advisable to do (or not to do) something. For example, You had better wear a coat. It's cold outside. You had better not eat too much junk food. Repeat these sentences after me. Another one, "There's nothing serious." This is a very useful sentence when we want to tell someone that the situation is not bad. For example, A: I have a headache. B: Don't worry. There's nothing serious. Just have a rest. 口语练习 Now, it's time for you to practice speaking. Look at the pictures on the PPT. Each picture shows an accident. I'll divide you into groups of four. In your groups, describe the accident using the words and sentence patterns we've learned today. For example, you can say "What happened? Oh, the boy fell off his bike. He had an accident. He'd better go to the hospital." (Give students some time to discuss in groups, then ask some groups to come to the front of the class and act out their descriptions) 课堂总结 Today, we've learned a lot. We learned some new words and phrases about accidents, such as "catch up", "agreement", "blind", "ouch", "call off". We also learned how to describe an accident using different tenses and important sentence patterns like "had better (not) do..." and "There's nothing serious." Remember to use these words and sentences in your daily life. 课后作业布置 For your homework today, I want you to write a short passage about an accident you witnessed or heard about. Use at least five words and phrases we learned today and at least two sentence patterns. You can draw a picture to go with your passage if you like. Bring your work to class tomorrow and share it with your classmates. That's all for today's class. See you tomorrow!
