21-23 ABB
根据“Van Gogh: The Roulin Family Portraits”部分的内容“When Vincent van Gogh arrived
in Arles, France, he befriended his neighbor and postman Joseph Roulin, along with his wife and three children. Van
Gogh went on to paint several vibrant and expressive portraits of the Roulin family. This exhibition showcases about
故选 A。
由“Myth and Marble: Ancient Roman Sculpture from the Torlonia Collection”部分的
“features 58 rarely-seen sculptures from the 5th century BCE to the early 4th century CE”可知,该展览中的雕塑来自公
根据“Guerrilla Girls: Making Trouble”部分的“12 July–28 September at the National
Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, DC”
故选 A。
根据第四段“The Granby native and professor at Georgetown University”可知,Barker
根据第一段“Those who drank 1.5 to 3.5 cups of coffee per day... were up to 30 per cent less
likely to die”及 “those drinking about three cups per day having the lowest risk of death”可知,适量饮用咖啡(1.5至
故选 A。
Dr. Wee一方面认可研究中咖啡的益处(“reduce your risk of dying by 30 per cent”),
故选 A。
根据文章第四段“They created an electric field using a weak alternating current (AC),
simulating the environment 60 to 100 metres from a high-voltage mains power line, for 2 hours. This reduced honeybee
landings on the affected plant by 71 per cent compared with a nearby control plant.”
on the treatment plant as the trial continued, but never reached control levels”可知,研究人员通过在一种植物周围创造
根据第六段“Estimates suggest that in the UK alone, there are almost 70,000 square
kilometres of land on which bee groups live in the range of high-voltage transmission lines.”,

B选项“The same principle applies to your bed.”(同一原理适用于床)
中的“same principle”承接前文“associations between places and behaviors”,并引出卧室场景的论述。故选 B。

One possible version:
The old man’s eyes widened in surprise as he saw Emma, a wet and tired girl, and the dog. “Goodness me, child,
what are you doing out here in this weather?” he asked, quickly letting them inside. The cabin was warm and cozy. The
old man explained that the dog was his, named Max, who had run off earlier that day. As Emma warmed up, she told the
old man how she had found the dog trapped in the forest. “I couldn’t just leave him there,” she said softly. The old man
nodded, his eyes filled with gratitude. “You were very brave. You saved him.”
After a while, the rain outside started to die down. The old man offered to drive Emma home. As they set off,
Emma looked back at the cabin, thankful for the unexpected rescue—of both the dog and herself. From that night on,

Text 1
W: Hey, Peter. Who lent you that science fiction?
M: Caroline. She bought it online a couple of weeks ago.
W: Oh, Emily wants to read this book, too.
Text 2
W: Mark, I’m really sorry about what happened yesterday. I was in a hurry to answer a phone call. This is a new cup I
bought for you.
M: It doesn’t matter, Jane. I shouldn’t have put my cup on the edge of the desk.
Text 3
M: Let’s go to the new sushi place downtown tomorrow. There’s a wide variety of rolls.
W: What about the prices?
M: They’re reasonable, considering the quality. Plus, they have lunch specials that won’t break the bank.
Text 4
M: I’ve been under a lot of pressure lately due to my work. Any advice on reducing stress?
W: Exercise can help—even a short walk or some deep breathing exercises can make a difference. Having a conversation
with your friends would also be helpful.
Text 5
W: I don’t have anything to wear for the New Year’s party. What about going to the Star Mall this weekend?
M: Didn’t you buy a long dress last weekend?
W: It’s too formal.
Text 6
M: Have you heard about the earthquake in the neighboring region? I just saw the news on my phone.
W: Yes. I watched the morning news on TV. Many buildings fell down.
M: That’s heartbreaking. Emergency services and relief organizations are providing support.
W: When disasters struck, help came from all sides. I think the local community is in need of assistance. Why don’t we
call for donations to help them?
M: You said it.
Text 7
W: Hello, Fancy Hotel. How can I help you?
M: Hello, I’d like to reserve a single room.
W: When would you like to check in?
M: On April 14th. And I plan to stay there for 4 nights. My full name is John Washington.
W: I see. That should be no problem. Each night will be $120.
M: That’s acceptable.
W: Alright. May I have your phone number?
M: Okay. It’s…
Text 8
M: Hey, Sarah, I found a fun experiment in a science book. Are you interested in doing it with me?
W: Sure, what’s the experiment?
M: Whether an orange floats or sinks in the water.
W: I guess it floats because it’s light. Let’s find out. Mom bought some oranges yesterday. I’ll go and get one. What else
do we need?
M: A deep bowl and some water. I’ll get them prepared.
W: We’re all set now. What should we do?
M: First, fill the bowl with water, and then gently place the orange in it.
W: It floats!
M: Now, take off the orange skin and try again. What do you think will happen this time?
W: I have no idea.
M: Give it a shot. And let’s see.
W: It sinks this time! Why?
M: The book said the orange skin contains tiny pockets of air, making the whole orange less dense, which allows it to
float. When you remove the skin, it becomes denser and sinks.
W: I can’t understand a word. I’ll ask Dad to tell me why.
M: I think Dad’s explanation would be exactly what the book says.
Text 9
M: Hello, everyone. I’m here with Mary Johnson, a retired history teacher.
W: Hello, everyone. Thanks for having me here.
M: Can you start by telling us something about your teaching career, Mrs. Johnson?
W: I began my teaching career 35 years ago, right after completing my college education. I started as a middle school
teacher, and later I taught at a high school where I spent most of my working life.
M: That’s quite a long and fulfilling career. What inspired you to be a teacher?
W: Well, that was because I had some amazing teachers who influenced me greatly as I was growing up. Later, my
parents also encouraged me to do something for young generations.
M: That’s impressive. By the way, can you tell us something about the use of modern technology in teaching?
W: At first, I mainly used blackboards, and now there’s a whole world of digital resources available. Technology has
brought many benefits, but we shouldn’t lose sight of the importance of maintaining a balance or the personal connection
between teachers and students.
M: I’m with you. Technology is a double-edged sword. Now that you’re retired, how do you plan to spend your time?
W: I’m looking forward to pursuing some hobbies, such as painting and gardening.
Text 10
M: 2023 was the second hottest on record in the UK, according to Met Office data. It means 3 of the 5 hottest years since
1884 have fallen in the last few years, along with 2020 and 2022, in a sign of how the UK’s climate is changing. Both
Wales and Northern Ireland had their hottest years on record. The news came as a surprise to those disappointed by the
wet or cool weather in July and August, or those who had battled thick snow in Scotland. But 8 of the 12 months in 2023
were hotter than average, and June was also the hottest on record. “The observations of the UK climate are clear. Climate
change is influencing UK temperature records over the long term,” Met Office senior scientist, Mike Kendon said.
“Climate alarm bells are ringing, following back-to-back hottest years on record,” said Doug Parr, director of a
non-governmental organization—Greenpeace UK. He cited revisions to some key climate targets. “It is committed to
fighting climate change by meeting our net zero targets without placing unnecessary burdens on families,” a
spokesperson for the government said.
