The doctor had done his best to help the girl but no medicine really worked. There was an only chance to save her life. It was a blood transfusion (输血) from her brother who was only six years old and two years older than the little girl. The little boy had the same disease before. Luckily, his body developed the antibodies (抗体) and the antibodies fought against the disease. The boy was saved.

He looked up at the doctor and asked, “Will I begin to die now?” The doctor understood his feelings and was touched. He said, “You are a brave child. Is body language important and useful? The answer in yes. Because it can help people understand us easily. When we are communicating with others, we use not only words but also body language. For example, we use facial expressions to show our feelings. We use smiles to mean that we are happy. We also use gestures such as shaking hands with each other to show we are friendly.
However, different countries have different body language. For example, people in China and Australia shake hands when they meet others while Frenchmen and Russians greet others with kisses. People from English-speaking countries do not like touching each other, but people in Puerto Rico like doing it. Therefore, if you touch someone from the UK, you should say sorry to him or her. If an American agrees with you, he will put his thumb (拇指) and forefinger (食指) into a circle. But in Bruail, people think it is rude. In many countries, “thumbs up” means agreement. But people in Australia used to think it was impolite to raise one’s thumbs up.
Therefore, when we use body language in a foreign country, we should make sure if it is polite to do so in that country.

Do your eyes jump a few times a second over a period of time? A jumping eye can happen to anybody at any time. There are several reasons for a jumping eye. Let’s have a look at it!
Tiredness
Not getting enough sleep or working for too long without rest may cause our eyes to complain. Scientists aren’t sure why, but they’ve found that getting more rest will make our eyes feel better. Remember not to stay up late.
Dry eyes
More and more people work office jobs that require a lot of sitting and starting at a computer screen. This unhealthy way of life can lead to dry eye syndrome (DES干眼症). When our eyes are too dry, they can’t help jumping to keep them wet. To stay away from DES, use eye drops if you use the computer for more than seven hours a day and make sure to look away from the screen once every 20 minutes.
Stress (压力)
This is the number-one reason for a jumping eye. It does harm to our eyes if it lasts for too long. When we’re under a lot of stress, the body gives out stress hormones (荷尔蒙) which leads to a “fight or flight” response (回应). To solve the problem, we can see our friends or relax ourselves in order to reduce the stress that might lead to jumping eyes.
34. How can we stay away from DES according to the passage?
A. Keep staring at the computer screen.
B. Use eye drops as often as possible.
C. Look away from the screen once every 20 minutes.
D. Use the computer for more than seven hours every day.
35. What can stress do to us according to Table (表格)3?
A. Stress is good when we go to see our friends.
B. Too much stress might be harmful to our eyes.
C. A lot of stress helps our body relax.
D. Too much stress is always important to our eyes.
36. What does the writer try to explain in this passage?
A. Three reasons why we have jumping eyes.
B. The number-one reason for a jumping eye.
C. The importance of getting enough sleep.
D. Some useful ways to reduce stress.
D.

I worked as a volunteer at a hospital at the age of sixteen. A year later, a little girl named Lisa lived in hospital because she had a very serious disease and she was dying.
The doctor talked to the boy about his sister and asked him if he agreed to give his blood to his sister. The little boy was worried about his sister. He took a deep breath and said, “Yes, I do.” During the blood transfusion, the little boy said nothing and lay in bed next to his sister. He looked at his sister and smiled. In the end, when he saw his sister’s face turned a little red, his smile disappeared and became afraid. He looked up at the doctor and asked, “Will I begin to die now?” The doctor understood his feelings and was touched. He said, “You are a brave child. You will not die because of this and your sister is saved because of you.”
This brave and kind-hearted boy was too young to understand the doctor’s words. He thought that he would die if he gave his blood to his sister, but he still agreed.

Stress (压力)
This is the number-one reason for a jumping eye. It does harm to our eyes if it lasts for too long. When we’re under a lot of stress, the body gives out stress hormones (荷尔蒙) which leads to a “fight or flight” response (回应).
