Mar Dixon, a leader in social media and the cultural sector, created MuseumSelfie Day in 2014 as part of her quest (追寻) to make museums fun for everyone — thus changing the image of museums from boring institutions, to places that anyone can enjoy.
This simple concept — taking a fun selfie in a museum — has become a global movement, with people, museums, news outlets, and organizations from around the world getting in on the action.
Visitors and staff at museums still participate each year by sharing their MuseumSelfie photos on social platforms. From ancient artifacts to modern masterpieces, every museum offers a unique opportunity for a selfie moment.

Along with a rising number of space missions by government agencies and private industries comes a fresh set of problems for Earth: potentially dangerous space junk.
A recent study published in the scientific journal Nature Astronomy concluded “that current practices have a 10 percent chance of one or more deaths over a decade”. In other words, according to researchers from the University of Victoria and the University of British Columbia, there’s roughly a one- in- ten chance that the next decade will witness falling space junk kill someone.
The space junk orbiting the Earth is an unfortunate by-product of our desire to explore and document space. According to 2021 figures from NASA and the Department of Defense’s Space Surveillance Data, the agencies were actively tracking more than 27,000 pieces of space junk, most of which are larger than a softball and casually orbit the planet. While the floating space junk is certainly a problem, not all the objects that went up must come down, and, in fact, a number of pieces simply burn up in the atmosphere. But sometimes those objects, particularly large ones like used rocket attachments, give in to gravity and fall back down to Earth to be dealt with once again by their human makers. Typically, people don’t die or even get injured by this phenomenon — many of the falling pieces crash into the ocean.
They also have to deal with the unsettling feeling of knowing that large rocket pieces can just fall from the sky and that it might affect people in certain parts of the world more than others.
This poses an obvious safety risk to people on the ground. “When some large parts of space junk return to Earth, the parts of their mass survive the heat of atmosphere. Many of the surviving pieces are potentially dangerous, giving serious risks on land, at sea, and to people in airplanes.” the study explains.
4. What is the conclusion of the study published in Nature astronomy?
A. People will see space junk easily in the future.
B. Some people may be hit to death by objects from the space.
C. Government agencies and private industries will develop fast.
D. There will be a 10 percent chance for human to die in 10 years.
5. What can be inferred from the third paragraph?
A. The space junk will get burnt in the sky.
B. The large space junk will pollute the ocean.
C. The floating space junk will come down finally.
D. Normally we should not worry about space junk.
6. What might be discussed in the following part of the text?
A. How to find space junk.
B. How to deal with space junk.
C. How to inform people of the danger.
D. How to avoid the danger of space junk.
7. Which is the most suitable title for the text?
A. Space Junk Causes Pollution
B. How to Take Back Space Junk
C. Space Junk Puts People at Risk
D. Exploring Space Takes in Unfortunate Results
B 5. D 6. B 7. C

根据第二段中的“A recent study published in the scientific journal Nature Astronomy concluded “that current practices have a 10 percent chance of one or more deaths over a decade”.In other words, according to researchers from the University of Victoria and the University of British Columbia, there’s roughly a one- in- ten chance that the next decade will witness falling space junk kill someone. (最近发表在《自然·天文学》科学期刊上的一项研究得出结论:“当前的情况在十年内有10%的概率导致一人或多人死亡。”换句话说,根据维多利亚大学和英属哥伦比亚大学的研究人员的研究,在接下来的十年里,大约有十分之一的机会看到坠落的太空垃圾杀死某人)”可知,该研究结论是未来十年可能会有人被太空坠落物砸死。故选B项。
【5题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段中的“While the floating space junk is certainly a problem, not all the objects that went up must come down, and, in fact, a number of pieces simply burn up in the atmosphere.(虽然漂浮的太空垃圾确实是个问题,但并非所有升空的物体都一定会落回地球,事实上,许多碎片会在大气层中燃烧殆尽)”以及“Typically, people don’t die or even get injured by this phenomenon — many of the falling pieces crash into the ocean.(通常情况下,人们不会因这种现象死亡,甚至不会受伤 —— 因为许多坠落的碎片都会坠入海洋)”可知,部分太空垃圾会在大气中燃烧掉,人们也不会因这种现象死亡,甚至不会受伤,由此可知,通常情况下我们不用担心太空垃圾(伤人)。
根据最后一段中““When some large parts of space junk return to Earth, the parts of their mass survive the heat of atmosphere. Many of the surviving pieces are potentially dangerous, giving serious risks on land, at sea, and to people in airplanes,” the study explains.
通读全文,尤其是根据文章第一段“Along with a rising number of space missions by government agencies and private industries comes a fresh set of problems for Earth: potentially dangerous space junk..
C
There’s an inner desire amongst most people to explore our planet. There’s this sense in modern society that somehow we will find a better existence or we’ll find happiness by going on holiday. I think we’ve almost been conditioned to become tourists, to the extent that a lot of people engage in tourism without actually considering why they’re doing so.
There are plenty of people who will go to the same place every year, because they’re comfortable and familiar with it. People are experiencing less and less the places they are at. They might be there in body, but not necessarily in mind, because a lot of people are constantly thinking: “How am I going to present myself to my social media group back home through my posts on Facebook or Instagram?”
But this is just one side of the problem. On the other side, our travel has taken a toll on the environment. It is reported that the carbon emissions from air travel accounted for 2.5% of global emissions in 2019, and this figure may be three times by 2050.
I admit that there has been a considerable increase in people’s awareness about the environment. And some people say that this can eventually lead to a shift in our behavior as tourists. However, I can’t share their optimism. A lot of research has been done into the extent to which tourists are willing to adapt their behavior. And even those people who regularly consume or behave in an environmentally friendly fashion actually temporarily forget their environmental commitments, and behave like normal tourists. They do suffer some kind of eco-guilt, but nevertheless they continue to travel, and they continue to fly.
I’m old enough to remember when tourism was just the summer holiday, and you would look forward to those two weeks a year when you would go on holiday. It was special and meaningful, but nowadays it is so easy to travel. Travel is now seen as a right, not as a privilege. However, to some extent, I hope there will be a significant rise in the cost of travel, or at least in air travel. In my opinion, only in this way can people realize the value of travel experience and really enjoy it. Also, only in this way can many problems arising with the development of tourism be properly solved.
8. What is the problem with most tourists according to the author?
A. They don’t care about our planet at all.
B. They post too many photos on social media.
C. They can hardly find the right place to explore.
D They fail to have a meaningful traveling experience.
9. What does the underlined part “taken a toll on” in Paragraph 3 probably mean?
A. Improved. B. Damaged. C. Saved. D. Shaped.
10. What can we infer from Paragraph 4?
A. Tourists can hardly be affected by environmental awareness.
B. Tourists are unaware of the effect of their behavior.
C. Tourists’ environmental awareness has been increased.
D. Tourists find it hard to travel without harming the environment.
11. Why does the author hope airline tickets will be more expensive?
A. To limit the development of tourism. B. To create a sense of equality in society.
C. To help people value their traveling experience. D. To make people less excited about travelling.
D 9. B 10. A 11. C
根据第一段中“I think we’ve almost been conditioned to become tourists, to the extent that a lot of people engage in tourism without actually considering why they’re doing so.(我认为我们几乎已经习惯于成为游客,以至于很多人去旅游,却没有真正考虑他们为什么要这样做)”和第二段中“There are plenty of people who will go to the same place every year, because they’re comfortable and familiar with it. People are experiencing less and less the places they are at. They might be there in body, but not necessarily in mind(有很多人每年都会去同一个地方,因为他们对那里感到舒适和熟悉。人们对所处之地的体验越来越少。他们可能人在那里,但心不一定在)”可知,作者提到大多数游客的问题是他们只是身体在旅游目的地,却没有用心去感受,即他们无法获得有意义的旅行体验。故选D项。
【9题详解】
词句猜测题。划线短语下文“It is reported that the carbon emissions from air travel accounted for 2.5% of global emissions in 2019, and this figure may be three times by 2050.(据报道,2019年航空旅行的碳排放占全球碳排放的2.5%,到2050年这一数字可能会达到三倍)”说明了旅游对环境产生了不良影响。所以“On the other side, our travel has taken a toll on the environment.(另一方面,我们的旅行taken a toll环境)”中动词短语taken a toll on的意思是“损害”,与B项“Damaged”同义。
根据第四段中“And even those people who regularly consume or behave in an environmentally friendly fashion actually temporarily forget their environmental commitments, and behave like normal tourists. They do suffer some kind of eco guilt, but nevertheless they continue to travel, and they continue to fly.(即使是那些经常以环保方式消费或行事的人,实际上也会暂时忘记他们的环保承诺,表现得像普通游客一样。他们确实会有某种生态负罪感,但尽管如此,他们还是继续旅行,继续坐飞机)”可知,尽管一些游客有环保意识,但很难改变自己的旅游行为,说明游客很难受到环保意识的影响。故选A项。
根据最后一段中“However, to some extent, I hope there will be a significant rise in the cost of travel, or at least in air travel. In my opinion, only in this way can people realize the value of travel experience and really enjoy it.(然而,在某种程度上,我希望旅行成本,至少是航空旅行成本会大幅上升。在我看来,只有这样,人们才能意识到旅行体验的价值并真正享受它)”可知,作者希望机票更贵是因为他希望通过增加旅行成本的方式来帮助人们重视他们的旅行体验。故选C项。
D
The US Ambassador to the UK officially launched a ship named Mayflower on Wednesday, 400 years to the day after a wooden ship with that name sailed from an English port and changed the history of two continents.
Unlike the merchant ship that carried a group of European settlements to a new life across the Atlantic Ocean in 1620, the new Mayflower named by US Ambassador Robert Wood Johnson has no crew or passengers. It will cross the sea powered by sun and wind, and controlled by artificial intelligence (AI).
Johnson said the high-tech ship, developed jointly by British-based research organization ProMare and US tech giant IBM, showed that “the pioneering spirit of the Mayflower really lives on”. “We’re heading out with the same spirit of adventure and determination and hope for the future as the original colonists (殖民者),” said Johnson.
Like the Mayflower in 1620, the new ship will travel from Plymouth, England, to Plymouth, Massachusetts. The ship’s launch in Plymouth is one of several Mayflower commemorations. They involve British, Americans and Dutch institutions — many of the 17th-century colonists had left England for Holland before the voyage — and the Wampanoag people, who had lived for thousands of years in what is now New England. In 1620, the Wampanoag helped the exhausted Mayflower settlers survive their first winter. But soon colonial expansion and new diseases were having a big impact on North America’s Native Indians. Wampanoag stories have been marginalized (使边缘化) on past Mayflower anniversaries (周年纪念), but they are playing a big part in events and exhibitions this time around. “The story of the Mayflower is one that really can’t be told without telling also the story of the Wampanoag,” said Paula Peters, a Wampanoag writer.
The Mayflower Autonomous Ship is intended to explore parts of oceans too difficult or dangerous for people to reach. Andy Stanford-Clark, Chief Technology Officer for IBM in the UK and Ireland, said the ship’s launch “is a very exciting stage of the journey toward crewless shipping” that could pave the way for AI-driven commercial ships and research ships.
The 50-foot ship will go through six months of sea trials and make short trips before setting out on its trans-Atlantic trip to measure ocean health: assessing the impact of climate change, measuring micro-plastic pollution and studying populations of whales and dolphins.
12. What do we know about the new Mayflower?
A. It is a wooden ship.
B. It is powered by clean energy.
C. It will carry a large load of goods.
D It will carry a small number of passengers.
13. What does the new Mayflower represent according to Johnson?
A The sufferings of the British people in history.
B. The friendship between the US. and the UK.
C. The long-lasting bravery of humankind.
D. The development of high technology.
14. What change can the launch of the new Mayflower bring?
A. It will seek help for Native Americans.
B. It will bring Wampanoag stories to light.
C. It will encourage more and more sea exploration.
D. It will help describe the colonists’ journey in detail.
15. What is the practical use of the new Mayflower?
A. It can protect commercial ships. B. It can carry out certain surveys.
C. It can save animals stuck in water. D. It can get rid of underwater dangers.
B 13. C 14. B 15. B

根据第二段中的“It will cross the sea powered by sun and wind, and controlled by artificial intelligence (AI).(它将以太阳能和风能为动力,由人工智能控制)”可知,新型“五月花号”以太阳能和风能为动力;太阳能和风能是清洁能源,由此可知,新型“五月花号”是由清洁能源提供动力。
根据第三段中的“Johnson said the high-tech ship, developed jointly by British-based research organization ProMare and US tech giant IBM, showed that “the pioneering spirit of the Mayflower really lives on”. “We’re heading out with the same spirit of adventure and determination and hope for the future as the original colonists (殖民者),” said Johnson.(约翰逊表示,这艘由英国研究机构ProMare与美国科技巨头IBM联合研发的高科技船舶,彰显了“五月花号的开拓精神真正得以延续”。他说:“我们带着与最初的殖民者同样的冒险精神、坚定意志和对未来的希望启航。”)”可知,约翰逊认为这艘高科技的新型“五月花号”代表“五月花号”开拓精神确实存在,新型“五月花号”代表了与最初的殖民者一样的冒险精神、决心和以及对未来的希望。由此可知,约翰逊认为新型“五月花号”代表了人类永恒无畏的探索精神。故选C项。
【14题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段中的“Wampanoag stories have been marginalized (使边缘化) on past Mayflower anniversaries (周年纪念), but they are playing a big part in events and exhibitions this time around. “The story of the Mayflower is one that really can’t be told without telling also the story of the Wampanoag,” said Paula Peters, a Wampanoag writer. (在过去的五月花号周年纪念中,万帕诺亚格人的故事一直被边缘化,但这次他们在活动和展览中扮演了重要角色。万帕诺亚格作家宝拉・彼得斯说:“如果不讲述万帕诺亚格人的故事,五月花号的故事就无法真正被讲述。”)”可知,新型“五月花号”的下水能让万帕诺亚格人的故事被人们知晓。故选B项。
【15题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段中的“The 50-foot ship will go through six months of sea trials and make short trips before setting out on its trans-Atlantic trip to measure ocean health: assessing the impact of climate change, measuring micro-plastic pollution and studying populations of whales and dolphins.(这艘50英尺长的船将经过六个月的海上试航,并进行短途旅行,然后开始跨大西洋之旅,测量海洋健康:评估气候变化的影响,测量微塑料污染,研究鲸鱼和海豚的数量)”可知,新“五月花号”跨大西洋之旅时会对海洋状况进行测量;由此可知,新“五月花号”会做一些调查研究。故选B项。

It was a terribly hot day in August and I was in the middle of a busy move to a new apartment, and everything seemed to be going wrong.
As I was beaten by helplessness and about to lose all hope, a neighbor from the apartment across the hall, named Mark, appeared. He smiled at me friendly and greeted me. To my surprise, he noticed my trouble and immediately offered to help. I was doubtful at first, not wanting to cause trouble for a stranger with my tough problems. But Mark was persistent (执着的). He calmly checked the damaged furniture and helped me communicate with the movers. His arguments made the movers realize their responsibility, and they agreed to pay for the damage.
Later, Mark even offered to help with the follow-up tasks. However, my troubles weren’t over yet. When we sat down in my new apartment, tired and hoping for some relief, we discovered that the air conditioning was broken. A call to the repair service showed that they wouldn’t come in hours. The heat inside the apartment was unbearable. I could feel sweat running down my back all the time.
Mark, seeing my discomfort, went to his own apartment and brought over a couple of fans. But as we were setting them up, one of the fans short-circuited (短路) and caused a power failure in the entire building. Darkness surrounded us, and the silence was only broken by the sound of my breathing. Worry and embarrassment set in. How could we survive the night without power in this strong heat? I felt like the universe was making fun of me on this already difficult day.
注意:
Mark, though, remained calm and determined.

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Mark, though, remained calm and determined. He took out his phone and called the power company. With a reliable tone, he explained our situation and managed to get them to focus on restoring power to our building first. We sat in the dark, sweating and sharing stories to pass the time and reduce the worry. After what seemed like a long time, the power was restored, and the air conditioning came back to life. A cool wind filled the room, and I felt a wave of relief wash over me.
Mark’s company and support left me with endless thankfulness. The next day, I invited him over for dinner to thank him properly. We shared a delicious meal and laughed about the crazy events we had experienced together. That was how a terrible moving day, filled with one issue after another, was turned into the start of a beautiful friendship. From then on, we became close friends who could rely on each other in time of need. Sharing both joys and worries, we continued to care for each other and spread kindness and a sense of community.

Celebrate MuseumSelfie Day on January 15!
MuseumSelfie Day is the perfect blend of art, culture, history — and selfies! Mark your calendars now for January 15.
How to participate in MuseumSelfie Day

● Take a Selfie: Snap a picture with the exhibit or feature in the background.
● Post Your Photo: Share it on X, Bluesky, Instagram, or Facebook using #MuseumSelfieDay or #MuseumSelfie. Don’t forget to tag the museum and add a caption describing the exhibit or your experience!
● Get Creative: Use filters (滤镜), props, or poses to make your post stand out. Have fun with it!

6 What might be discussed in the following part of the text?
A. How to find space junk.
B. How to deal with space junk.
C. How to inform people of the danger.
D. How to avoid the danger of space junk.
7. Which is the most suitable title for the text?
A. Space Junk Causes Pollution
B. How to Take Back Space Junk
C. Space Junk Puts People at Risk
D. Exploring Space Takes in Unfortunate Results

D. It will carry a small number of passengers.
13. What does the new Mayflower represent according to Johnson?
A. The sufferings of the British people in history.
A It can protect commercial ships. B. It can carry out certain surveys.
C. It can save animals stuck in water. D. It can get rid of underwater dangers.
