According to a new study described by researchers as a global breakthrough, plants are not as silent as we once thought they were. They do make sounds, particularly when injured or stressed—just not ones that we can hear with our ears. Researchers recorded and analyzed sounds produced by plants and discovered that they can give off clicking sounds at a volume similar to human speech, but too high for human ears to pick it up.
In order to seclude the plants to ensure that any sound picked up by recording equipment could only be coming from the plants and not the atmosphere around them, researchers at Tel Aviv University placed plants in an acoustic (声学的) box in an environment with no background noise. The plant types used in this study were mainly tomato and tobacco plants. Researchers used recording equipment capable of picking up frequencies between 20 and 250 kilohertz, reaching more than 15 times higher than the maximum frequency the average adult can hear.
In the greenhouse setting, they also recorded a group of tomato and tobacco plants as they grew increasingly dehydrated (脱水的), and found that their sound outpoint increased steadily for the following four to five days after being watered, and then decreased. Essentially, the thirstier the plants got, the louder they complained—until they reached a certain critical stage of dehydration, at which point their voices quieted as they dried up. The researchers also found that dehydrated tomato and tobacco plants produced an average of about 35 and 11 sounds per hour, respectively. Cut tomato and tobacco plants made 25 and 15 noises per hour. Healthy plants, on the other hand, produced far fewer sounds, at less than one per hour.
Recording these sounds could help inform farmers about which of their crops are most in need of water, allowing for more precise irrigation, which could be a step forward for agriculture. “When more and more areas are exposed to drought due to climate change, efficient water use becomes even more critical for food security. We believe that humans can use this information, given the right tools—such as sensors that tell growers when plants need watering,” said Lilach Hadany, a professor from the School of Plant Sciences and Food Security at the Wise Faculty of Life Sciences.
4. What is the author’s purpose in writing paragraph 1?
A. To state research methods. B. To present research findings.
C. To clarify the purposes of the research. D. To explain the significance of the research.
5. What does the underlined word “seclude”in paragraph 2 probably mean?
A. Protect. B. Develop. C. Separate. D. Discover.
6. What do we know about the experiment?
A. Plants make sounds more frequently for lack of water.
B. Cut plants produce louder sounds than dehydrated ones.
C. Sounds coming from plants are hard to pick up by devices.
D. Plants produce few sounds in the greenhouse environment.
7. What does Lilach Hadany think of the research?
A. It could help increase the production of crops.
B. It could attract people’s attention to food safety.
C. It could be applied to deal with global warming.
D. It could be beneficial for efficient irrigation in farming.

With the rapid development of artificial intelligence, DeepSeek, a Chinese AI company, has emerged as a pioneer in educational technology. Its latest model, DeepSeek-R1, combines advanced machine learning methods to provide personalized learning solutions for students worldwide.
Unlike traditional AI models that rely on pre-programmed answers, DeepSeek-R1 uses reinforcement learning to simulate human reasoning. This allows it to guide students through problem-solving step by step, much like a patient tutor. For example, when a student struggles with a math equation, DeepSeek-R1 doesn’t just give the answer; it breaks down the logic, identifies errors, and encourages critical thinking.
The model’s applications extend beyond academics. In language learning, it analyzes students’ pronunciation through AI speech recognition and offers real-time feedback. For teachers, DeepSeek-R1 can generate lesson plans aligned with curriculum standards and even predict students’ learning difficulties based on historical data. Its “adaptive testing” feature creates customized quizzes that adjust difficulty according to individual progress.
However, challenges remain. Critics argue that over-reliance on AI might reduce human interaction in education. DeepSeek’s developers address this by emphasizing its role as a “supplement, not a replacement.” As Dr. Li, a DeepSeek researcher, stated, “Our goal is to free teachers from repetitive tasks so they can focus on inspiring creativity.”
Looking ahead, DeepSeek aims to integrate virtual reality (VR) into its platform, allowing students to explore historical events or scientific concepts in immersive 3D environments. While ethical debates about AI in education persist, one thing is clear: tools like DeepSeek are reshaping how we learn, blending technology with human wisdom.
8. What makes DeepSeek-R1 different from traditional AI models?
A. It uses pre-programmed answers.
B. It focuses on memorization techniques.
C. It replaces teachers in classrooms.
D. It employs reinforcement learning for reasoning.
9. The underlined word “adaptive” in Paragraph 3 most likely means ________.
A. fixed B. adjustable C. complicated D. outdated
10. What can be inferred about DeepSeek’s future plans?
A. VR technology will enhance interactive learning.
B. It will eliminate all classroom activities.
C. It prioritizes profit over educational values.
D. Teachers will lose their jobs to AI.
11. What is the main purpose of the passage?
A. To advertise DeepSeek products.
B. To criticize the risks of AI in schools.
C. To discuss AI’s role in transforming education.
D. To compare different AI models.

When I challenged myself to travel by low-carbon routes during the writing of my book, I experienced the best and worst of our transport network. When public transport works, it really works. I found traveling by train and bike meaningful.
But even at this time of climate emergency, public transport still remains an unpopular choice. First of all, traveling by public transport is expensive in Britain. Besides, there are many strikes in the public transport system. What’s more, the average British person spends around £ 3,500 a year on car costs. It’s no wonder we prefer the driver’s seat.
However, there are many reasons we should be using public transport more, with one being the benefits to the environment they bring. Recent research shows that UK trains have higher carbon savings than previously thought. For my Scottish journey, had I traveled a similar route from London to Edinburgh by car, my journey's emissions would supposedly have increased 10 times.
E-bike rental (租赁) projects have also increased across the UK, and so has cycling in general, but this mode of transport isn't always planned for. All over the country, bike lanes are rare.
All of this has revealed to me that while the UK’s transport infrastructure (基础设施) is poor its potential is significant. We know how environmentally friendly electrified rail routes can be, but in 2021-22 little more than a mile of such track was upgraded across Britain. Centrally funded investment could change things.
The rest of Europe seems to recognize this. If I were in Austria, I could travel across Vienna by public transport for €l a day. In Germany, I could organize a monthly €49 for all-inclusive regional public transport. Closer to home, Brighton and Hove have the most popular bus network outside London.
We must demand a nationalized low-carbon network. A standardized, centrally funded consistently supported ecosystem of public transport across the UK could truly change our carbon game.
12. How many reasons are mentioned why British people prefer traveling by car in paragraph 2?
A. 2 B. 3 C. 4 D. 5
13. What is the problem with conducting e-bike rental projects?
A. High rental fees. B. Lack of public interest.
C. Potential safety problems. D. Poor infrastructure.
14. Why does the author mention Austria and Germany?
A. To compare the costs of public transport.
B. To predict the challenges of UK’s public transport.
C. To contrast with the state of UK’s public transportation.
D. To illustrate the popularity of public transport in Europe
15. What can be the best title for the passage?
A. Transforming carbon game: The Eco-Boost on Rails.
B Revolutionizing UK Transport: The Green Ride Ahead.
C. Empowering Global travelling: A Long March on Land.
D. Revolutionizing UK City Life: The Tech Leap on Tracks.

47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
I was always the kind of person who tried hard to please everyone around me. Whether it was my classmates, teachers, or family members, I went out of my way to make them happy. I would agree to do things I didn’t really want to do, like lending my favorite books that I was still reading to classmates who asked, or sacrificing my own study time to help others with their homework.
One day, my classmate Lily asked me to help her with a difficult math project. The project was due in a week, and it was going to take up a lot of my time. I had my own study plans and a big English test was around the corner, but I couldn’t bring myself to say no. So, I started spending hours every day helping Lily. We worked on the math problems, did research, and prepared the presentation together.
As the days passed, I was getting more and more stressed. I was constantly tired from staying up late to study for my English test after helping Lily. On the day of the English test, I was so sleepy and unfocused that I made a lot of silly mistakes. When the results came out, I got a much lower grade than I had expected. I was devastated (崩溃的).
Lily, on the other hand, got a great grade on the math project and was very happy. She thanked me, but I didn’t feel the slightest bit of joy. Instead, I felt a sense of resentment (怨恨) building up inside me. I realized that I had put my own needs aside for so long to please others, and it had finally had a negative effect on me.
That evening, I sat in my room, thinking about what had happened. I was tired of always being the one to give in and sacrifice for others. I decided that things had to change.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;

第二节(满分25分)
【47题答案】
【答案】Paragraph 1:
The next day at school, another classmate, Tom, came to me with a request. He wanted me to join his group for a history project, which would require a significant amount of my free time. Just a few days ago, I would have immediately said yes without hesitation. But this time, looking at Tom’s expectant face, I summoned up my courage and said, “Tom, I really appreciate you asking me, but I have my own study schedule and personal things to take care of. I’m afraid I can’t join your group.” Tom looked a bit surprised. He tried to persuade me, saying that my ideas would be really helpful for the project. However, I stood my ground and politely declined again.
