But since the publication of her new book, The Let Them Theory: A Life-Changing Tool That Millions of People Can’t Stop Talking About, she’s become a phenomenon. It’s been hard to find much media in the last few weeks that hasn’t mentioned her. Here is what she said in the interview. The new book is inspired by what her elder daughter said when Robbins was being a “typical mom” at her son’s high school prom (毕业舞会), trying to micromanage everything and upsetting everyone in the process. “It was that experience where you can’t stop words coming out of your mouth, and once they’re out of your mouth, you’re trying to get them back,” she says, “My daughter, who was home from college, just held my arm and said ‘Mom, you’re being annoying.’” “And my daughter just kept saying, like a chorus in a song, ‘Let him get his coat wet, let him ruin his sneakers, let them do what they want.’” Robbins continues, “And there was something about that moment: you know how people say, ‘When the student is ready, the teacher appears.’ That was the moment that it actually hit me. And I then said to myself, ‘LET THEM.’And I finally found the long-lost calmness again.” This aspect of trying to give up controlling others makes up the central idea of the book. “This is the truth about life: your life is not about what’s happening out there. All your power is in your response to it.” “Because I think we don’t want to be so controlling, or have the world affect us so deeply, and yet we don’t know how, because we tend to be so stressed out and upset.” 24. Which of the following makes Mel Robbins more famous? A. Her hard work B. Her podcast C. Her new book D. Her life attitude 25. What does the underlined sentence in paragraph 4 most probably mean? A. One can only learn when they meet a good teacher. B. When a man is willing to learn, the right guidance will show up. C. Opportunities come to those who are well-prepared academically. D. Teachers tend to show up whenever students actively ask for help. 26. What is the purpose of Mel Robbins’s writing? A. To give tips on parenting teenage children. B. To express concerns about life full of stress. C. To remind people that not everything can be managed. D. To advise people to focus on what’s happening out there. 27. What kind of person is Mel Robbins now? A. Annoying B. Controlling C. Stressed D. Peaceful 【答案】24. C 25. B 26. C 27. 根据第二段“But since the publication of her new book, The Let Them Theory: A Life-Changing Tool That Millions of People Can’t Stop Talking About, she’s become a phenomenon. It’s been hard to find much media in the last few weeks that hasn’t mentioned her. Here is what she said in the interview. (但自从她的新书《让他们理论:一个改变生活的工具,数百万人都无法停止谈论它》出版以来,她已经成为了一个现象。在过去几周里,很难找到没有提到她的媒体。)”可知,Mel Robbins因新书而更加出名。故选C项。 【25题详解】 词句猜测题。根据第四段中““And my daughter just kept saying, like a chorus in a song, ‘Let him get his coat wet, let him ruin his sneakers, let them do what they want.’” (而我女儿就像歌里的副歌一样,不停地念叨着:“就让他把外套弄湿吧,就让他把运动鞋弄坏吧,就让他们想干什么就干什么吧。”)”以及 “That was the moment that it actually hit me. And I then said to myself, ‘LET THEM.’And I finally found the long-lost calmness again. (就在那一刻,我真正明白了。然后我对自己说:‘让他们去吧。’我终于又找回了久违的平静。)”可知,女儿不断说“让他们做自己想做的事”,而当时Mel Robbins自己正处于想控制他人的状态,女儿的话恰好点醒了她,就像当一个人愿意去学习(接受新的观念)时,恰当的指引就出现了。所以划线句子意为 “当一个人愿意学习时,正确的指引就会出现”。故选B项。 【26题详解】 推理判断题。根据第五段“This aspect of trying to give up controlling others makes up the central idea of the book. “This is the truth about life: your life is not about what’s happening out there. All your power is in your response to it.” (试图放弃控制他人这一方面构成了这本书的中心思想。“这就是生活的真相:你的生活不在于外面发生了什么。你所有的力量都在于你对它的反应。”)”以及第六段““Because I think we don’t want to be so controlling, or have the world affect us so deeply, and yet we don’t know how, because we tend to be so stressed out and upset.” (“因为我想我们不想如此控制,也不想让世界如此深刻地影响我们,然而我们却不知道如何做到,因为我们往往会感到压力很大和心烦意乱。”)”可推知,Mel Robbins写这本书的目的是提醒人们不是所有的事情都能被控制。故选C项。 【27题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段中“And I then said to myself, ‘LET THEM.’And I finally found the long-lost calmness again. (然后我对自己说,‘让他们去吧。’我终于又找到了久违的平静。)”可推知,Mel Robbins现在是一个平静的人。故选D项。 C SCAPE Landscape Architecture takes the lead in creative design with its groundbreaking “Design for us” idea. Though traditional ways stress human use and comfort, this forward-thinking belief places adaptation to modern needs and the creation of shared living spaces first. Kate Orff, the head of SCAPE, notes in an interview that humans have contributed much to the environmental problems. Over the past decades, actions such as destroying protective coral reefs (珊瑚礁), and constructing in weak areas like sandy beaches have worsened the situation. A good example of SCAPE’s typical work is the impressive $111-million Living Breakwaters Project on Staten Island’s South Shore. Born out of the “Rebuild by Design” competition started after the destructive Hurricane Sandy in 2012, this project was regarded as a solution to strengthening coastal adaptability. SCAPE’s winning design featured an idea of adaptability in several aspects. Its 8 coastal breakwaters (防波堤), made from stone and concrete, were designed to decrease wave energy and calm the water. Through modeling, the team developed a long-term plan not only to relieve but also to prevent coastal erosion (侵蚀) in the future. In addition, the breakwaters’ unique design, equipped with “reef roads,” plays an important role in creating a diverse habitat to improve sealife biodiversity. With the project’s completion, the oyster, a sea creature, once forced away by climate change, is being reintroduced to its natural habitat. Beyond its physical and ecological achievements, the project also focuses on promoting social adaptability. Through years of close teamwork with the Citizens’ Advisory Committee, an educational community program has been developed, where students collect in-depth knowledge about Raritan Bay’s ecosystems and understand the great impact of the project. As Kate Orff expresses, the Living Breakwaters Project is not just about the physical construction; it represents the long-term recovery of coastal culture, livelihoods, and the revival of the harbor, showing the beauty of life itself. 28. What is the central idea of SCAPE’s “Design for us” concept? A. To increase human comfort in living spaces B. To promote human use through creative designs. C. To decrease environmental impact on design projects. D. To focus on meeting present demands and sharing habitats. 29. Which of the following is NOT the function of the Living Breakwaters Project? A. To lessen coastal erosion. B. To reduce the wave energy. C. To improve coastal adaptability. D. To attract more tourists to the area. 30. What can be inferred from Kate Orff’s words about the Living Breakwaters Project? A. It is mainly about building comfortable structures. B. It plays an important role in creating a diverse habitat. C. It has far-reaching significance beyond its physical form. D. It has succeeded in achieving its expected educational goals. 31. Which of the following is the best title for the text? A. The Living Breakwaters Project: Rebuild by Design. B. Coastal Adaptability: The Solution to Climate Change. C. SCAPE Landscape Architecture: Leader in Creative Design. D. SCAPE’s Creative Design: Balancing Human Needs and Nature. D 29. D 30. C 31. 根据第一段中“Though traditional ways stress human use and comfort, this forward-thinking belief places adaptation to modern needs and the creation of shared living spaces first. (尽管传统方法强调人类使用和舒适性,但这种前瞻性理念优先考虑适应现代需求和创造共享生活空间)”可知,SCAPE的“Design for us”核心理念是关注当下需求并创造共享栖息地。故选D项。 【29题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段中“this project was regarded as a solution to strengthening coastal adaptability (这一项目被视为增强海岸适应能力的有效解决方案)”和“Its 8 coastal breakwaters (防波堤), made from stone and concrete, were designed to decrease wave energy and calm the water. Through modeling, the team developed a long-term plan not only to relieve but also to prevent coastal erosion (侵蚀) in the future. (该项目的8座海岸防波堤采用石材与混凝土建造,其设计能有效削弱波浪能量、稳定水域。团队通过建模分析制定了长期规划,不仅着眼缓解当前海岸侵蚀问题,更致力于预防未来的侵蚀风险)”可知,该项目的功能涵盖减少海岸侵蚀、减少波浪能量、提高沿海适应能力,但不包括吸引更多游客。故选D项。 【30题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段中“As Kate Orff expresses, the Living Breakwaters Project is not just about the physical construction; it represents the long-term recovery of coastal culture, livelihoods, and the revival of the harbor, showing the beauty of life itself. (正如Kate Orff所言,Living Breakwaters项目远不止是一项实体工程——它象征着海岸文化的长期复兴、渔民生计的可持续恢复,以及港湾生态的重生,展现了生命之美)”可知,该项目带来的影响是多重的,是深远的,远超其实体形态。故选C项。 【31题详解】 主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是第一段中“SCAPE Landscape Architecture takes the lead in creative design with its groundbreaking “Design for us” idea. Though traditional ways stress human use and comfort, this forward-thinking belief places adaptation to modern needs and the creation of shared living spaces first. (SCAPE景观设计公司凭借其开创性的“Design for us”理念,在创意设计领域占据领先地位。尽管传统方法强调人类使用和舒适性,但这种前瞻性理念优先考虑适应现代需求和创造共享生活空间)”和第二段中“A good example of SCAPE’s typical work is the impressive $111-million Living Breakwaters Project on Staten Island’s South Shore. D DNA, nature’s ancient data-keeper for nearly 4 billion years, is likely to store far more than just biological information. Unlike computers that use 0s and 1s, DNA stores data through the series of its bases. It is also unbelievably effective: all movies ever made could be fit into a sugar-sized space of DNA. This makes DNA a highly promising choice for future data storage, especially as the amount of digital data in the world continues to grow quickly. However, DNA is fragile, easily damaged by water and heat. For long-term storage nowadays, it requires freezing temperatures and dangerous chemicals, making the process both expensive and inconvenient. Inspired by the movie Jurassic Park, where DNA from insects trapped in amber (琥珀) was used to clone dinosaurs, scientists at MIT developed a way to fix DNA into an amber-like material. This new approach could protect DNA almost forever while allowing for quick recovery when needed and solving the problem of DNA’s fragileness. But James Banal and his team from Cambridge University took the research further with T-REX. They trap DNA in a material similar to plastic. “Plastics are tough and long-lasting,” Banal points out. T-REX is a faster, easier, and cheaper way to trap DNA compared to previous methods. It works like a lock-and-key system. The team builds a chemical “lock” into the glassy material, and special “key” chemicals can be added to free the DNA. To test T-REX, the team stored the Jurassic Park theme music and a person’s genes into DNA, then “locked” it in the amber-like plastic. Despite facing high temperature (75℃) and wetness (70%) for days, the DNA was recovered and its information was read without issues. Moreover, the broken-down material can be reused, making the process more environmentally-friendly. While the method isn’t ready for widespread use due to the high cost, experts like Dina Zielinski believe costs will drop. DNA storage has a bright future as it doesn’t rely on specific media like human-made equipment; DNA itself is the medium. As technology progresses, we may soon witness DNA becoming a mainstream solution for long-term data storage. 32. What is the advantage of DNA in storing data compared to traditional computer storage? A. It is more space-saving. B. It has a much longer history. C. It uses a simpler storage system. D. It can store various types of data. 33. What encouraged the scientists at MIT to develop the amber-like DNA-fitting method? A. The toughness of plastics. B. The idea in Jurassic Park. C. The need for room-temperature DNA storage. D. The limitation of previous DNA storage methods. 34. How does the T-REX method work? A. It uses a natural lock-and-key approach. B. It traps DNA into small amber materials. C. It fixes DNA and unlocks DNA in a chemical way. D. It heats DNA up at high temperatures and with wetness. 35. What can we infer from the passage about the future of DNA storage? A. It will replace existing data storage methods soon. B. It shows great promise despite present limitations. C. It will be mainly used for storing biological information. D. The high cost of DNA storage will prevent its development. A 33. B 34. C 35. 根据第一段中“It is also unbelievably effective: all movies ever made could be fit into a sugar-sized space of DNA. (它的存储效率令人难以置信:所有曾经拍摄的电影都能存储在一块方糖大小的DNA中)”可知,与传统计算机存储相比,DNA存储数据的优势在于它更加节省空间。故选A项。 根据第二段中“Inspired by the movie Jurassic Park, where DNA from insects trapped in amber (琥珀) was used to clone dinosaurs, scientists at MIT developed a way to fix DNA into an amber-like material. (受到利用琥珀中昆虫的DNA克隆恐龙的电影《侏罗纪公园》的启发,MIT的科学家开发了一种将DNA固定在类似琥珀材料中的方法)”可知,《侏罗纪公园》中的想法激励了MIT科学家研发类似琥珀的DNA固定方法。故选B项。 【34题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段中“It works like a lock-and-key system. The team builds a chemical “lock” into the glassy material, and special “key” chemicals can be added to free the DNA. Writing B Having been hard at work for years, Mel Robbins has enjoyed great fame for a long time: her podcast has been flying high in the charts since she started it in 2022, and she’s been writing best-sellers for the last 10 years. “It was that experience where you can’t stop words coming out of your mouth, and once they’re out of your mouth, you’re trying to get them back,” she says, “My daughter, who was home from college, just held my arm and said ‘Mom, you’re being annoying.’” “And my daughter just kept saying like a chorus in a song, ‘Let him get his coat wet, let him ruin his sneakers, let them do what they want.’” Robbins continues, “And there was something about that moment: you know how people say, ‘When the student is ready, the teacher appears.’ That was the moment that it actually hit me. Stressed D. Peaceful C SCAPE Landscape Architecture takes the lead in creative design with its groundbreaking “Design for us” idea. While the method isn’t ready for widespread use due to the high cost experts like Dina Zielinski believe costs will drop. DNA storage has a bright future as it doesn’t rely on specific media like human-made equipment; DNA itself is the medium. As technology progresses, we may soon witness DNA becoming a mainstream solution for long-term data storage. 32 What is the advantage of DNA in storing data compared to traditional computer storage? 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多余选项。 Going through life can be challenging at times. One of the problems is having self-doubt that is upsetting and can kill your confidence levels if not controlled from the get-go. We will all experience some signs of self-doubt, and that much is natural. ____36____. For example, when starting a new job, you might feel inexperienced or might think that you are not fit enough for the job. Here are some strategies that you can use to overcome self-doubt. Never Compare Yourself With Others Comparing yourself with others is a harmful act, and it just hurts yourself. Why would you compare yourself with a family member, a friend, or even your colleague when each of your lives is different? ____37____. Reflect Back To Your Past Achievements Remember the time when you achieved something remarkable? Self-reflection is one of the best tools to remove self-doubt. ____38____.
