When I was a kid, my two siblings and I would take turns to stay with my Granny and Grandaddy in Waycross, GA, for a week at a time during summer vacation. We saw them often throughout the year, but we always looked forward to that special week of one-on-one time with them, because they spoiled us with love, not gifts. Both were very special to me, but especially my Grandaddy, whom I was named after.
He became blind around the age of 20, yet his blindness never slowed him down. He worked the snack stand at the courthouse, cooked lunch, and washed dishes while my Granny worked. As a boy, between the ages of 6 and 14, I would watch him closely, studying how he moved around the house from room to room as if he could see. I was impressed by how smoothly he shifted from cooking to washing the dishes, never missing a beat.
At the snack stand, customers would give him money, and he would return the correct change and provide them exactly what they ordered. He had many friends who visited the snack stand just to talk to him, and I enjoyed helping out, feeling grown-up as I handed customers their drinks and snacks.
It seemed like every time I stayed with them, in the evening we would visit someone who was sick or attend a viewing for someone who had passed away. Despite his blindness, my Grandaddy never let it slow him down or stop him from working and caring for others. His love for people was boundless. During those weeks, he taught me many lessons that still have an impact on me today.
I’m grateful for the time I spent with him. To this day, I dislike hearing someone say, “I can’t do that, because I knew a blind man who never uttered those words.

Imagine your brain as a busy city center, with thoughts moving quickly along neural highways like cars in rush hour, causing a huge traffic jam — that’s Mental Internal Friction (MIF). It’s the cognitive congestion that brings your mental processes to a stop, leaving you stuck in a sea of indecision and missed opportunities.
But what exactly is this invisible force that seems to hold us back? MIF is the psychological resistance we experience when trying to begin or maintain a thought process or action. It’s that unavoidable feeling of discomfort when faced with a challenging task, the mental exhaustion that sets in when making complex decisions, or the loss of control that strikes when faced with too many choices. This friction (摩擦) slows down our ability to think clearly, make decisions confidently, and act decisively.
The impact of this mental friction on our daily lives can be profound and far-reaching. It’s the reason why that brilliant business idea remains written in a notebook rather than becoming a thriving startup. It’s why the novel you’ve been meaning to write is still just an unclear plot outline in your head. Mental internal friction damages productivity, steals motivation, and limits personal growth.
But here’s the kicker — this friction isn’t always a bad thing. in small doses (剂量), it can serve as a valuable checkpoint, preventing us from making rash decisions or acting in a hurry. The problem arises only when this friction becomes too much.
Perfectionism, that double-edged sword of high standards and self-criticism, is the main source of mental friction. The pursuit of being perfect can prevent us from taking action. Instead of striving for more preparations, make peace with the “now”. We can’t feel totally satisfied with where we’re going until we can accept, acknowledge, and appreciate where we are. Make peace with where you are, and you can get rid of mental internal friction and make a journey toward something new.
8. Which of the following people is most likely to experience MIF?
A. A shy student who is to give a speech in public.
B. A dynamic sportsman who will run a marathon.
C. An excellent doctor who is examining a patient.
D. An experienced driver who is stuck in traffic jam.
9. What is paragraph 3 mainly about?
A. The causes of MIF. B. The symptoms of MIF.
C. The benefits of MIF. D. The disadvantages of MIF.
10. What does the underlined word “kicker” in paragraph 4 mean?
A. An unexpected fact. B. A reasonable solution.
C. An exact definition. D. A profound influence.
11. What is the author’s suggestion about stopping MIF?
A. Perfect the preparations. B. Set a high standard.
C. Accept the present situation. D. Try something new.
D
Wouldn’t it be nice if there were a simple, safe pill you could take to prevent Alzheimer’s disease and keep your brain sharp as you age? According to a new research from Brigham and Women’s Hospital and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, that “magic pill” might be as straightforward as a daily multivitamin.
In the new research examining the effects of multivitamins on heart disease, cancer, and cognitive health, researchers discovered a promising link between daily multivitamin use and improved brain function. “A daily multivitamin improved memory and slowed cognitive aging in older adults,” reported Dr. JoAnn Manson, chief of the division of preventive medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and lead author of the study.
The study followed more than 5,000 men and women aged 65 and older for three years. Participants were divided into two groups: one took a daily multivitamin containing a mix of 27 vitamins and minerals, while the other took a placebo (无效对照剂). Cognitive tests measured memory, processing speed, and overall cognitive function. Results showed that those who took the multivitamin experienced a 60% slower rate of cognitive decline compared to the placebo group — an effect equal to preserving nearly two years of brain health.
While the study doesn’t suggest multivitamins are a cure-all, it adds to a growing body of evidence that consistent supplementation (补充), when combined with a healthy diet and lifestyle, can boost cognitive strength. “It’s not just about taking a pill,” Dr. Manson notes. “But for those looking for a simple, affordable way to support brain health, a daily multivitamin could be a valuable addition to their routine.”
This research comes at a time when rates of age-related cognitive decline are rising, making preventive strategies increasingly important. At present, the findings are not definitive, but they offer hope that a small daily habit might make a big difference in preserving mental sharpness as we age.
12. What can be concluded about the new research?
A. Multivitamins greatly affect heart disease.
B. Cognitive decline is unavoidable with age.
C. Multivitamins can cure Alzheimer’s disease.
D. A daily multivitamin can better brain function.
13. How did the researchers conduct the study?
A. By researching into previous data. B. By analyzing scientific files
C. By doing a comparative experiment. D. By studying some typical cases.
14. Why does the author mention Dr. Manson in the fourth paragraph?
A. To praise the timely arrival of the research.
B. To question the effectiveness of the research.
C. To stress multivitamins’ function as a cure-all.
D. To highlight multivitamins’ role of supplements.
15. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Multivitamins: Simple Pills to Prevent Aging
B. Multivitamins: Pills to Slow Cognitive Decline
C. Multivitamins: The Solution to Brain Problem
D. Multivitamins: The Key to Sharpen Your Brain
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Committing to reading more is an admirable and rewarding goal — one that’s completely achievable through small daily changes. ____16____
Establish small daily targets. Overly ambitious goals often become blocks rather than encouragement. When you set a very high target like “100 books a year”, you’ll find it weakens motivation before progress begins. Instead of chasing such goals, focus on building lasting mini-habits. ____17____ For example, you could read during breakfast for 20 minutes, aim to finish two chapters weekly, or target completing one book monthly.
____18____ By linking reading to habits you already have, you’ll shift it from planned effort to natural behavior. Treat your reading time with the same fixed priority as meals: Listen to audiobooks on your subway commute, replace evening social media with Kindle time, and always keep a paperback in your bag for sudden waits. You’ll solidify habit patterns when you attach reading to anchors like morning coffee.
Seize hidden reading moments. ____19____ Your 15-minute bus ride becomes a mystery chapter; lunch breaks transform into biography journeys; even waiting in line turns into poetry time. Carry e-books on your phone for quick access, or try audiobooks while walking — you’ll prove small parts add up to whole books.
Build social reading responsibility. Through shared learning experiences, you’ll naturally grow. Partner with a classmate for twice-monthly WeChat book talks, join school challenges like “Summer 20 Books,” or follow Bilibili reviewers for handpicked suggestions. ____20____
A. Set a high target for reading.
B. Connect reading to daily routines.
C. Start with specific, manageable actions.
D. We provide useful strategies for this goal.
E. Social media enable you to dive into your books.
F. Group power turns reading into shared adventure.
G. Short reading opportunities exist everywhere in your day.

My daughter Bella was diagnosed with cerebral palsy (脑瘫) at birth. I was told she would never walk, run or live a normal life. Bella went against the doctors’ predictions and took her first steps when she was three years old. I was so proud of how far she’d come. Bella still had her struggles. She hesitated to attempt new things and refused to talk to others, particularly in public settings.
Last year, I took my 11-year-old daughter to a Special Skiing Games event at a ski resort in New Hampshire. Bella had been skiing with an adaptive ski program since she was four. I thought she would have fun at the games. But her anxiety got the better of her. Despite my encouragement, she wouldn’t leave our cabin the entire time. It made me sad to see her missing out on not only some great skiing but also making new friends.
I had to do something to make Bella face her fears. Why not use Bella’s love of animals as motivation? I checked animal rescue websites, looking for a cat that my daughter wouldn’t resist. As soon as I read the write-up on Popcorn and Cheddar, a pair of orange kittens, I knew they were meant for us. They were brother and sister, 12 weeks old. Both had been diagnosed with cerebellar hypoplasiay (小脑发育不全).
At the sight of Popcorn and Cheddar, Bella fell in love with them. “Popcorn and Cheddar are like me!” she said, “I have to take care of them!” Popcorn and Cheddar can’t walk steadily and climb stairs. Bella covered sharp corners to protect them from being hurt. The two kittens also attracted attention of kids in our neighbourhood. “Will they ever be able to climb the stairs?” one kid asked her. “You never know,” Bella said. “I wasn’t supposed to walk, but now I can run. I’m not going to let anyone tell these kittens what they can and can’t do.”
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Something changed in Bella as she watched the kittens grow.

4. Why did the author long to visit his grandparents?
A. To get free snacks. B. To receive some gifts.
C. To enjoy their love. D. To assist his grandparents.
5. What can we know about Granddaddy?
A. He lost his sight in childhood.
B. He seldom helped with housework.
C. He had many friends to help him out.
D. He had no difficulty serving customers.
6. Which of the following can best describe Granddaddy?
A. Brave and creative. B. Cautious and honest.
C. Tough and caring. D. Humorous and talkative.
7. What lesson did the author learn from Granddaddy?
A. Never say never. B. Never too old to learn.

【6题详解】
推理判断题。根据第二段中“He became blind around the age of 20, yet his blindness never slowed him down. He worked the snack stand at the courthouse, cooked lunch, and washed dishes while my Granny worked.(他在20岁左右失明,但失明从未使他放慢脚步。当我奶奶工作时,他在法院的小吃摊工作,做午饭,洗碗)”可知,祖父虽然失明但依然努力工作、帮忙做事,体现出他的坚强;根据第四段中“It seemed like every time I stayed with them, in the evening we would visit someone who was sick or attend a viewing for someone who had passed away.(似乎每次我和他们在一起时,晚上我们都会去看望生病的人或参加逝者的瞻仰仪式)”可知,祖父关爱他人。所以祖父是坚强(tough)且有爱心的(caring)。故选C项。

C
【答案】8. A 9. D 10. A 11. C

【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍了心理内耗(MIF)的概念、对日常生活的影响,指出它并非全是坏事,还分析了其主要来源并给出摆脱心理内耗的建议。
【8题详解】
推理判断题。根据第二段中“MIF is the psychological resistance we experience when trying to begin or maintain a thought process or action. It’s that unavoidable feeling of discomfort when faced with a challenging task, the mental exhaustion that sets in when making complex decisions, or the loss of control that strikes when faced with too many choices.(心理内耗是我们在试图开始或维持一个思维过程或行动时所经历的心理阻力。当面对一项具有挑战性的任务时,那种不可避免的不适感;在做复杂决定时产生的精神疲惫;或者当面对太多选择时所感到的失控感,这些都是心理内耗的表现)”可知,害羞的学生要在公众场合演讲,会面临挑战,容易产生心理上的不适和阻力,最有可能经历心理内耗。而动态的运动员跑马拉松、优秀的医生检查病人、有经验的司机遇到交通堵塞,都不太符合心理内耗所描述的情境。故选A项。
【9题详解】
主旨大意题。根据第三段中“The impact of this mental friction on our daily lives can be profound and far reaching. It’s the reason why that brilliant business idea remains written in a notebook rather than becoming a thriving startup. It’s why the novel you’ve been meaning to write is still just an unclear plot outline in your head.
前文介绍了心理内耗带来的不好影响,而划线词所在句后文“this friction isn’t always a bad thing. in small doses, it can serve as a valuable checkpoint, preventing us from making rash decisions or acting in a hurry.(这种内耗并不总是坏事。小剂量的内耗可以作为一个有价值的检查点,防止我们做出鲁莽的决定或匆忙行动)”介绍了心理内耗也有好处,所以这是一个意想不到的情况。“kicker”意思是“一个意想不到的事实”,与A项“An unexpected fact.”同义。故选A项。
【11题详解】
细节理解题。根据最后一段中“Instead of striving for more preparations, make peace with the ‘now’. We can’t feel totally satisfied with where we’re going until we can accept, acknowledge, and appreciate where we are. Make peace with where you are, and you can get rid of mental internal friction and make a journey toward something new.(与其努力做更多的准备,不如与‘当下’和解。在我们能够接受、认可并欣赏自己所处的位置之前,我们无法对自己的前进方向感到完全满意。与自己所处的位置和解,你就能摆脱心理内耗,开启新的旅程)”可知,作者建议接受现状来摆脱心理内耗。故选C项。
【答案】12. D 13. C 14. D 15. B

E Social media enable you to dive into your books.
F. Group power turns reading into shared adventure.
G. Short reading opportunities exist everywhere in your day.

【答案】
The Wise Use of AI
Recently, I’ve noticed some classmates using AI tools like DeepSeek to directly finish their homework. In my opinion, it’s wrong. Relying on AI to complete assignments without personal thinking will lead to a lack of in depth understanding of knowledge. This way won’t help them improve their abilities and is unfair to those who work hard.
I suggest students use AI as a learning aid rather than a shortcut. For example, they can use it to check grammar or get inspiration. Teachers should also design tasks that can’t be easily done by AI. By doing so, students can truly enhance their skills through hard work and independent thinking.

This past February, Bella and I returned to the Special Skiing Games event.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】Something changed in Bella as she watched the kittens grow. The kittens’ resilience and Bella’s nurturing of them transformed her outlook. Bella started practicing talking to others about Popcorn and Cheddar, gradually overcoming her social anxiety. She began initiating conversations with neighbors and even shared their story with her schoolmates. This newfound confidence extended to her daily life. The kittens became a source of inspiration, teaching Bella that limitations are not boundaries but challenges to overcome. Their bond deepened, and Bella’s empathy grew, reinforcing her belief in herself and others.
This past February, Bella and I returned to the Special Skiing Games event. To my astonishment, Bella was the first one out of the cabin, eager to participate. She skied with newfound enthusiasm, laughing and interacting with other children. She even helped a younger skier who was struggling. Bella’s transformation was remarkable. Seeing her joy and confidence, I realized that the kittens had not just changed Bella; they had unlocked her potential, proving that with love and perseverance, anything is possible.
